Review Chop Steakhouse & Bar - Edmonton

Nadine Smith
Furious fries were good, and that's where the good ends. Vegetable Tempura came in 2 massive clumps, impossible to share. Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings were very disappointing for almost two bucks per wing. There was no salt and barely a sprinkle of pepper. Escargot Stuffed Mushrooms were completely underwhelming with zero flavour. The mushrooms were quarters with stems STILL ATTACHED, basically sliced mushrooms with a bunch of flavourless greasy cheese on top. Server took the tempura back to show the kitchen and offered a replacement. She asked if all of the mushrooms were pieces; they were. We had each tried 1 small mushroom bit when she asked if she could also get us a new batch of them. She took the remaining half of the mushrooms back to the kitchen then a bit later someone else came to tell us that they were out of mushrooms, so we couldn't have anymore. Also had a utensil bundle wrapped in a dirty napkin with a dirty fork inside. The place was not full or busy. Most people were just having drinks (in hindsight maybe for good reason). We left completely disappointed and unsatisfied. Not sure if it was an off night for the kitchen or what, but there was definitely no amazing experience for any of the four of us.

Last minute dinner and drinks before the hockey game. There was an anticipated wait because we did not have reservations (make sure you do because it is crazy on game nights at all restaurants!), but it was only 20-35 minutes where as other places in the ice district were 45-60 minutes. Service was great and prompt, though they did forget our appetizer (which the manager acknowledged and wanted to make up for it - very courteous and professional). Bar seats were comfortable, and the Mile high G&T was perfect. We got the Chop salad with chicken and the Chop burger. The burger was perfect, the salad had a little too much dressing and the garlic bread was the equivalent of a giant crouton - All in all: decent food, good service. a great experience for a last minute meal before th hockey game!

A very nice steak house. The prime rib that I had was simply amazing. Literally almost melted in my mouth. My wife had the roasted chicken and said it was amazing too. The portions are generous, and the food came quickly. We had no problem getting a table on a Saturday, but it was before 5pm. Our server was so awesome, very friendly, and efficient too. I highly recommend this spot!

Elegant design and great taste in decor. Divided between a restaurant/dining area and a pub area with a bar which also has table service. Our only complaint was that the creme brule was undercooked and tasted smokey but they made up for it by giving us our desserts for free. Service: great Cost: $$$

I took my boyfriend to Chop Steakhouse & Bar at the Downtown location for his birthday. We started with Escargot Stuffed Mushrooms , those were okay but nothing too crazy. For the main we both ordered Steak Oscar, but switched the top sirloin for two Filet Mignon's instead. While the portion looked small, we were both full at the end of our meal. The food was very flavourful and the steaks cooked to a perfect medium rare making it so tender and juicy! The best part was that we went on sunday after the evening rush and the whole upstairs was empty. The dim lighting made the dinner feel extra romantic. Our waitress was friendly, and was open to giving us suggestions when we weren't sure what to order. Even though it was quite she made sure to keep checking on us in a timely manner. They even gave my boyfriend a complimentary dessert for his birthday as well. Thank you Chop Steakhouse and Bar for the amazing evening!

All around exceptional! We went to celebrate my friend’s birthday on the weekend. Our server was well informed on the menu and great with service and timing. Food was delicious, I ordered prime rib which is one of my favourites stakes and my husband ordered New York steak which was cooked to perfection. We had a nice space just for our group. I loved the environment, the place is nice. The manager even came to check in on our evening. Definitely coming back, Thank you!

Great dinner with amazing service. I highly recommend this restaurant. The steak was done to perfection, and the waitress was very good.

The restaurant and bar is Amazing. The food is delicious but the service is excellent. Hannah my waitress has the best personality and customer service. She’s such a delight. I’d would also like to acknowledge Rachel the bar manager. She’s so accommodating and gracious. I live in the USA but I am looking forward to seeing those ladies upon my return. Edmonton you ROCK.

Went here after an oilers game - the service was okay - no issues there like others seem to have had. Our waitress was quick and on top of refilling water etc. However our food was brutal. I ordered the prime rib yorkies and asked for no horseradish aioli and if it would be replaced with something else. Not only was there no replacement but they were awful. Soggy on the bottom. Dry. And of the meat there was - it was fatty. It was like 80% onions. It was brutal. Husband had the hot wings. They were not very hot (by hot i mean hot to the touch), and they were also very blah. We didn't feel like sticking around as we were exhausted so we paid our bill and left promptly. I am super disappointed . I saw these reviews and was like no way - chop used to be my fav place to eat in Edmonton. Vancouver. Amazing food. But I'm glad we didn't make our dinner here because I would have been seriously pissed to have a $100 supper for it to be blah.

Service was good, and food came out quick even though the place was packed before the oilers game. Food was great. Also a great place to eat before an event at Rogers place since it is a short walk.

Staff is very attentive and they have the best steak in the world mother's day they gave out free herb plants!

My friend and I went to this restaurant on Saturday night and I have to say we were not impressed. The service was quite slow considering there was only a handful of people in the restaurant. My friend is vegetarian so she asked the manager if they could throw a dish together with some of the vegetarian side dishes they had, they could not come up with anything and said they didn't have much option. Low and behold I take a closer look at the menu and saw they had a veggie burger. Wtf, why wouldn't the manager suggest that. Laura, the waitress was nice but the manager was to be desired. We proceeded to sit there and listed to him having a conversation with a patron that involved him saying "fuck" 5 times until the patron left. I get swearing, not a grump about that, however there is a time a place for it. The food was ok, nothing amazing by any means. The manager should really consider being more professional at work.

We were here on April 1, on a busy Saturday night before a hockey game. Our server Alex was very attentive. Our dinner choices of prime rib and Teriyaki steak was delicious and perfectly cooked as requested. Perfect choice to dine before a hockey game. Will definitely be back.

Amazing service and the food was spectacular.....recommend to anyone for a nice dinner out, reasonable prices as well.

Stefan, Sales and Events Coordinator, is amazing and I would highly recommend trusting him for any gathering you want to book here. I've been blown away by so many dishes here from the shareable steak bites to Tuna tartar and their house salad with the amazing basil honey-lime vinaigrette! I just can't say enough great things about this place!

After an hour of waiting for our food, both our entrees were wrong. They offered to correct mine only, and left my husband wondering if he should eat his or if they were bringing him a new entrée. They didn't come back to check on us so he ate the wrong entrée because we couldn't and didn't want to wait for a new one to be made. The drinks were flat so we ordered new ones, which after 15minutes did not come, and we had to ask again, only for them to arrive flat again. When my meal came, my husband had already finished his so I ate mine alone and as quick as I could so we could get to our concert afterwards. The ONLY good thing was that they did not make us pay for our meal. Will definitely not be going back and would not recommend.

our first time to that place, place is nice and fancy, clean, and big, food is good. just need to improve on the waitress part, she needs to be faster, smarter, should bring the machine with the bill, then we can pay faster and go back to work sooner.
John M Dick
The service was terrible the first waitress couldn't even get our drink order straight. Second waitress took forever ever to take your food (Appetizers)order then it was 47 min from the time we order to get it. Issues with the wings , mash potatoes and billing.
Eva Michener
The steak was very nice, well cooked, but the service was very questionable, we had the starters before we get our bottle of wine or water 😥! We still were eating our salads when the appetizers arrived!!! We felt we had been rushed❗It was a Very unpleasant feeling.

My girls and I were celebrating my birthday and it was a great night. Our server was very courteous, informative and polite. Our steaks were made to perfection!

This was my first time to Chop Steakhouse! Sarah was my server and did an AWESOME job! She deserves a raise and promotion. The food was great as well.
Stacey Gulseth
Great service and great food. Went for our anniversary they gave us a free dessert and a card. The are fantastic!!
Darlene Arason
Fabulous!!. Stopped in for dinner before we went to a show at the Jubillee last night and everything was awesome. I loved the basil honey lime vinaigrette - who thought a piece of lettuce could taste so wonderful. Our steaks were cooked to perfection, portion sizes were perfect, and the service was very, very good. Wish I could remember our server's name...she was awesome!! Will definitely go back ... it's my new favourite place!
Catina Larsen
Dinner was great food and great service...breakfast the next morning was the complete opposite.

Great experience! Yummy food and service was excellent.

After finding out the Black Sabbath show was cancelled, my cousins and I decided to have a few drinks to get over our disappointment. Our server, Leah, was very personable and fun spirited. A wonderful lady. The drinks were great and the vibe and decor were great. Would go back again for sure.

Always a great time at this place. Love the food, the vibe, the service. A++ from me. I highly recommend!

We don't really know what happened as we have been to Chop Ellersie location and had an amazing experience. But so many things went wrong. I ordered a filet steak cooked medium and when it came out the steak was the colour grey, not browned at all, and it was very well done and chewy, it tasted very off like it was thrown into a microwave to be reheated...which I hope wasn't the case. I've never seen discoloured cooked meat before. My husband ordered the same and his came out browned on the outside and seasoned but the same inside, well done. The waiter was very nice and took it back and our friends we were with ate their food and finished...ours finally came back out 30 minutes later and unfortunately when we cut into it, it was blue inside. My husband asked to have his thrown back on the grill again and i just couldn't eat...I kept thinking about the look and taste of my first steak made me feel really nauseous. The manager on duty came by and offered apologies and explained they were really busy and offered us free dessert but I just had water. My husbands steak came out again 15 minutes later, his steak was medium well. SO he ate it. I just wanted to leave. The experience wasnt the best but what surprised us was the table of 6 behind us were having the same experience. One woman yelled (rudely) at the waiter and just bitched and bitched about their dinners as well. So the manager took our steaks off the bill but it's a shame that the cook (chef?) they had on duty cost them a lot of money with the amount of food being tossed out or given to us for free and who else knows how many others that evening.

Went here prior to Roger Waters concert. Easy walking distance. We both had steaks that were rare and they were great. Nice squash and broccoli accompaniments and sauce was awesome. Brûlée for dessert. Will go back. Great service.

We got married there last night and I have to say that we couldn't find abetter place . Since I made the reservation the people there was always helping me with what I wanted for our special day. They were always part of my day like if they were my family ! They perfectly set everything for us EVERYTHING WAS SO BEAUTIFUL. We had a set menu and everyone loved the food . I fell in love with the seafood chowder and all the guests loved the steak bites DELICIOUS . The service of course 5 stars . I work in a restaurant and I know about this so I can say that I'll come back soon and I'll recommend this place because it's just wonderful. Thank you so much for all what you did for us ! Shanna & Cesar

Absolute worse service I have ever tried. Gave them a second chance in the restaraunt upstairs as previously had a terrible experience there and they fell extremely short again. Would give it a negative rating of I could. Side note the bar downstairs has always been good for service.

We just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary at CHOP in Edmonton. Food was great and service was extraordinary. The staff gave us à card that they aller signed. We were touched. Thank you!

Thank you for the delicious meal we were treated to at no charge as we are Fort McMurray evacuees! We are overwhelmed with such generosity!

Amazing interior wish I could sat the same about the food. What's so hard about prepairing a steak dinner. Was very dissappointed now I'm craving a good steak. You only get one chance to celebrate your 54th birthday. Mgmt can you redeem your self. Hmmm

Had a fantastic dinner tonight. First time at the downtown location and mostly defiantly will be going back. The food was perfectly prepared and the service was outstanding. Now if only I could get around edmonton pedway system better to make it easier enjoying the city center area ....

Was very disappointed with the "Event" special in the Lounge last night. The Burger & Beer Special was dismal at best. Burgers were pre cooked and held in a warmer as were the french fries. And I don't drink beer. This was such a disappointment from the Happy Hour specials that are offered on non-event nights. We plan to check out the numerous establishments next time. Will not return.
Craig Barry
Complete waste of time. Stone cold food, glacial pace. Absolutely overrated. Eat street meat.
Charlene Hamelin
Our waitress was Megan & she was wonderful. Very pleasant & informative. The appetizer & Cesar salad & fresh backed bread were perfect. House Pino Gris was delish. My prime rib wasn't too impressive tho. Thanks for the great experience your down town location.

I've been here everytime I've come to Edmonton and each time the staff has been amazing. The food, the ambience, everything is delightful to the sensory experience. Thanks to my bartender, Sara, Amaal, and Kason Chow for being so kind. In the states, it's hard to find such amazing hospitality (except for maybe in Louisiana), but here they are doing it right at the Sutton Place. Many blessings and don't change!!! Give those folks all the love they deserve.

We went for Christmas lunch as a group of 8. Dishes were either under-cooked or cold. Getting our food took a ridiculously long time. Getting things put right took even longer. As an apology, we were told we were getting desserts to share - which took so long, we had our coats on and were leaving when they arrived. And then it took even longer to get our bill - which had everything on it at full price despite our ridiculous afternoon. Then I spent the rest of the day with stomach cramps after I had tried to get the rest of our party to laugh off our ridiculous experience. Seriously, find somewhere else to spend your time and money. No one from our group will ever go back.

Thoroughly enjoyed my peppercorn New York strip grilled to perfection. The crispy onions (would’ve loved to have more) were delicious along with the rice pilaf and tomato with herb spread. Gravy was not too thick and matched splendidly. Was a little pricey but worth it along side a nice cold beverage. Ambiance was relaxed and service was excellent, allowing us to enjoy our dinner after a long day.

This was our first visit to a Chop restaurant and we will definitely be returning. Our server Quentin was friendly and knowledgeable and a lot of fun. My prime rib was mouth-watering and my husband's sirloin was a perfect medium rare. You don't always get a sirloin with such a good cook on it. We had onion rings as an appetizer and they were crispy and delicious. We asked Quentin to pass along our thanks to the chef and Marissa the Hospitality manager came over to chat with us about our experience. Was a very nice touch. I think it's difficult for the service industry to maintain a loyal customer base in this day and age....too many choices and it's too easy to complain online without a lot of basis or facts behind the words. Small touches like a table side visit will go a long way (in my humble opinion) to encourage us to visit again and again.
Johnathon Hobbs
Ordered a medium rare prime rib from this restaurant through skip the dishes. I can't understand how they messed it up so bad the outside edges are cooked but the top looked like something you'd pick up from the butcher. Severe negligence on behalf of the staff to let this ever leave their kitchen.

SEPT2017 -Stop over salting the food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This location will close down in no time. It's dead 80% of the time and the wait staff is horrendous. Looking forward to what restaurant will take over at this location.

Very good food here. The wings and chicken tacos are very good. Also very good steaks. A little pricier, but it is quality food. Service is lacking a bit. My mom and I waited probably ten minutes before we were served while staying in the hotel, but the food was good.

We decided to go here before a concert and we were staying at the Sutton attached to the restaurant and were celebrating a birthday We decided to order 3 appetizers to share (escargot, steak bites and crab cakes). The crab cakes came cold in the middle and the escargot tasted like lemony tin...It was barely even edible. The steak bites were great. We got the crab cakes first and told the server they were cold and she offered to take them back and get us new ones but we didn't want to be wasteful so we just ate most of the dish. The manager comes along and apologizes for the cold crab cakes. We received our escargot and told our server about how gross they were and explained to her we weren't looking for a free meal but just wanted to let them know how their appetizers are poor. We usually are not picky eaters at all. But considering the price of the food you would expect it to be great tasting and hot. So the waitress comes and offers us free dessert and at this point we didn't want to try any more food from the restaurant as these appetizers turned us off so we politely declined. She came back and the manager told her all we had to pay for was the steak bites which was really nice of them. We tried Joey across the road for lunch the next day and WOW was it ever delicious and the service was great. I would suggest going there instead.

I was stating in Edmonton and thought why not try this place. Well it wasn't the greatest. The server was rude and our food took forever. It was expensive for nothing to eat. The guys I was with ordered steaks and they were not I mean we're not cooked the way they wanted. We asked for the bill paid and the server said I think you missed something. We looked at each other and said no. She said u need to give me a tip. I couldn't believe that I walked away and made sure I have my receipt so she can't change it. Why would I tip for bad service.

Very nice experience. Came for dinner with family and a friend, and had a delicious meal. The atmosphere was very nice, music was not too loud. The server was very attentive, made great conversation, and was overall very great. The food was incredible. I had the halibut dish, very tender, delicious fish, and vetetables were cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The Wasabi mashed potatoes were not spicy at all which was nice, just had a great flavour. Overall very nice restaurant. Would recommend.

My friend and I went here for lunch, my friend ordered the steak sandwich medium rare, it came out rare, so she asked our server if it could be sent back. The server started to get defensive, took it back to the kitchen, it was then returned over cooked. From that point on, our server ignored our table. and finally we asked her for the bill, and she kept saying sorry your food wasn't the way you like it, not my fault, and giving this look like she really could care less. My meal was good, I had the chicken panchetta club, but the service was not good at all.

Great customer service. I really enjoyed the salmon and Hubby loved the teriyaki steak. Parking was a hassle more so due to location and construction in the hotel parkade. Not as much variety as I would have hoped, but it is a steak house. Will definitely go back for the salmon.

Came in for work and Chop was at the bottom of my hotel. The atmosphere was very comfortable and music wasn't exceptionally loud. Reminded me a lot like the keg. Ordered the prime rib dinner with French onion soup. Not the best FO soup I've had but was good enough. The prime rib was plentiful as well delicious. The au jus was good but the fresh horseradish was outstanding. Finished off with the Caribbean rum cake which was incredible. Had a lovely lady named Shilo who served me, who was very friendly, knowledgable and her suggestions were on point. I'd come again
Jessie
I went 3 times. The restaurant is beautiful, but in my opinion food mediocre. For the price there are definetly better restaurants downtown.

Came here for breakfast on a weekday. The service was great, very attentive and accommodating. The food was standard and nothing special, scrambled eggs tasted like buffet type scrambled eggs, the sausages were not that great as they had some chewy bits in it, and the pancakes were kind of dense. The coffee was very light brew and I tend to like a medium/bold roast so it came off a bit watery. Unfortunately food (breakfast at least) wasn't anything stellar but the customer service will make me come back and try their lunch/dinner offerings.

My boyfriend and I decided to try somewhere new for date night and I was more than impressed. I got a sparkling peach Bellini and sparkling water (which came out in an impressive bottle of its own, as shown in the photo) and both were stellar. But the real winner of the night was by far the oven roasted chicken with basil and lemon pan jus with wild rice pilaf and green beans and acorn squash. It was exquisitely mouth watering. I can't even remember what my boyfriend got but I remember him telling me it was delightful. I can be picky when it comes to my meat, but I ate every morsel of chicken and then even longed for more. The wild rice was the prefect accompaniment and so subtly seasoned. The entire meal was just absolutely lip smacking, the only issue was that there wasn't very much as far as vegetables are concerned and I am a girl that LOVES my veggies.
We were seated in the lounge which, while a little loud, was very tastefully decorated and the staff was friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about the menu.
It was an incredible first experience that definitely has me wanting to go back.

First time ever stepping foot into a Chop Steakhouse. Very clean with minimalist decor, but pleasing to the eye with colors of grey and silver with accents of teal for lure. The crowd was business casual on lunch break, so a calm and quite atmosphere surrounded my friend and I as we finger through the menus, patiently waiting for our server to approach the table.

Anna was on top of the features that day, and was very friendly when helping us through any questions we had. My friend is celiac(the real deal, not the trend version ) so ordering was more difficult for her.

We both had virgin Caesars, hers was GF. I loved mine, she couldn't stand hers. They then brought her the same one I had sans worchestershire. She was satisfied, problem resolved.

The food came out. We both ordered the Chop Salad, hers with steak, mine with chicken. I quite enjoyed it, as much as you can enjoy a salad. Very similar to the Rainforest Greens at Cactus Club.

My friend on the other hand wasn't as pleased. Her steak was well done and chewy. She couldn't get through it, but made an admirable attempt.

The server was polite, patient and prompt considering the complaints and did what she could to help.

I left thinking I'd definitely give this place another try, however, my friend stated that this was her second attempt to dine with chop and she will not be returning.

When all is said and done, I had a good time!

The Chop Steakhouse, located in the Sutton Place Hotel in downtown Edmonton is one of a chain of 6 restaurants. There are two in both Alberta and British Columbia, one in Manitoba, and one in Toronto. I usually avoid chain restaurants for the most part but I was determined to have several steak dinners whilst visiting the Canada’s cattle country and gave this place a try. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed…
OneEyedFred
Great food and good service. This is a great place to eat, upstairs or down the menu is the same. Great steak and other food.
Service was excellent too. We got everything as ordered and smoking hot.
E-Town, It's Me Again!
Unfortunately, my second Downtown Dining Week experience was quite far from being as enjoyable as the first....Overall, the food was decent, but my dry and overcooked steak demoted my rating quite a bit. The service, however, was rather dreadful. I normally feel much more reluctant to mention my disappointments, but I feel as though this was an exception to that feeling. I regret not consulting Urbanspoon, and solely relying on my previous experiences at another location, as most of the reviews reveal that service has been consistently unimpressive.

JUST PURE DISGUSTING !!!. We had a made a reso for valentines day a month in advance to find out that we would be placed at a table in the lounge area with other couples on both sides of us, SUPER AWKWARD when we had requested our own table OBVIOUSLY for valentines day so we requested to move but they only moved us to another bar table than it took forever for a server to come over and than we asked to light the candle about 20 times before they finally did at the end of the night haha.. too ridiclous LAZY STAFF ....... drinks took forever to come and even getting a refill on a water was quite the task for these servers we got our appy which was good but kinda cold still no drinks waiting forever ...... than when our meals came out they was no veggies just on nasty tomato on the plate you cold tell it was sitting there for a long time because both of our steaks were cold and are potatoes were horrible we couldnt even eat them and guess what was for DESSERT nothing because they were all out on valentines day hahaa just ridicilous this place should be shut down its horribley ran.
Sheep Souffle
Steak and Lobster. Cold mashed potatoes, blended with some sort of wasabi or horseradish; the server didn't notify us of this when suggesting side options. 7oz medium steak, we'll seasoned, but barely warm to touch. Lobster, barely warm, with melted butter

-----15 Feb, 2015-----

First Impression: Don't Come Back. Pros:
- Server was nice
- "Pink Lemonade" was delicious; tasted like a lightly alcoholic koolaid

Cons:
- When confirming reservation via phone, the hostess said we should clear our table in 1hr15min for another reservation
- Seated 10min late for a reserved table; we arrived well on time
- Didn't get offered water until 10min after seating
- Entrées arrived cold-to-barely-lukewarm after 40 minutes of waiting

Very disappointed.. We went out for dinner. What a disaster. Not only did our drinks come after our appetizers our meals came cold and after over an hour wait. We had to spend the entire time searching for waitress, who was no where to be found. The manager came to the table and orders two extra starters since ours were so late... the 2nd started arrived but where were our drinks!? Finally about 5 min before our meals arrive the drinks arrive. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The appetizers were the only good thing about this experience, the steak bites were wonderful and my husband enjoyed the onion soup.

Had shirt, Had shoes...NO SERVICE!!!!. My boyfriend and I went there for my birthday dinner. The restaurant was not busy. We were seated promptly and after a few minutes our server came by for our drink orders. Upon his arrival with our drinks-which took 10 minutes- he took our food orders. We ordered the carpaccio as an appetizer and steaks for each of us as entrée. While we waited for our appetizer we were not offered bread at all. 45 minutes later the server came by to tell us he made a mistake- both our appetizer and entrees were ready at same time. How does this happen?? Who would enjoy cold slices of steak while eating a cooked steak??? I could not envision the kitchen being swamped as I mentioned the restaurant was not busy. The presentation of our entrees was sad to say the least - it looked as if it the food was thrown on the plate. Who wants to pay $35 for food thrown on a plate??? We thought we would settle up and try our luck with service in the bar downstairs. No such luck. I went to the bar while my boyfriend paid. I sat right up at the bar for at least 5 minutes until I was approached by the GM. I mentioned to her the lack of service upstairs, she apologized and wanted to pay for my dessert. Okay I thought but after that we never saw her again to follow through. Still we waited for someone to approach us to take our drink and dessert orders...at a bar where there was 6 people !!! Paying for my dessert did not fix my impression of this restaurant nor did the GM disappearing and not following up with us.We stay at Sutton place at least 4x a year as a "staycation" this restaurant will no longer be part of that, EVER EVER again!!
RS
I went there for Nye dinner, food was great. Service was perfect half way through the dinner then it took a turn for the worse. We waited 20min for our server. Other than that it was decent

Young Manager was extremely rude. Had a horrible experience here. The manager was extremely rude to my family was extremely embarressed that I had brought my family there for supper. He was a young guy very much a no it all , and we did not complain about anything at all We ended up leaving the waitress a cash tip hoping she would not be splitting with anyone else.

Located inside the Sutton place hotel. As with most hotel restaurants, this one should be avoided. Went here twice while on business - disappointing on both accounts. I ordered the "ultimate steak experience" and gave them a second chance later in the week with a New York strip loin. The steaks are fatty and over cooked. I asked for a rare on both occasions and got a medium the first time and well done shoe leather the second try. The waitress warned me "rare" is "bright pink throughout", so I was hopeful they would get it right. They didn't. No trace of pink to be found.

Terrible experience...sat down ordered beef tenderloin with soup and potatoes. Soup came out after 45 minutes and was so bad i sent it away. Steak done properly but came out 120 minutes after ordering. They comped half our meal but manager never came and talked to us personally. Saddest thing is it wasn't even busy.

Don't Even Bother.... Stopped in for a steak before a hockey game on a Saturday night... Bread was delivered but lacked plates or cutlery to eat it and It took 45 minutes for our food to show up. My 40$ fillet mignon showed up well done (instead of medium) and almost too salty to eat. Meanwhile, the vegetables had no salt and were cold. Same story on my buddy's steak.

Great food awesome service. My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner. The food was amazing (lime coconut mussels, mushroom ravioli and short ribs) and the service was fantastic (our waitress was the girl with bright red hair). Thanks for a great night Chop!

Anniversary dinner. Last week, my husband an I celebrated our 1 year anniversary. We had heard about chop before and decided to take a chance. We took a seat in the lounge and immediately we were approached by a bubbly, happy waitress. I ordered the white sangria and it was absolutely phenomenal. Our server was knowledgeable, welcoming and very personable. She helped me choose my entree as the pancetta stuffed chicken, again, fantastic, and the incredible rum cake just made our visit. I would recommend this establishment over and over, thank you chop for making our special day absolutely perfect.

Pleasantly Surprised. Fantastic Service!. We will be returning very soon. Food was great. Drinks came quickly witch was needed from the heat. Wasn't sure what to expect considering it's located inside a hotel. We weren't expecting a two story restaurant with two separate dining rooms upstairs. If the server didn't tell us about the dining rooms with floating top hat lamps upstairs we wouldn't have known it was there. Really cool!

Food was good service was even better. We will be returning.

Chop steakhouse & bar downtown. Chop steakhouse is definitely one to check out! Food was amazing and the service was outstanding, I'll definitely be coming back. Highly recommended!

No bread for Gramma!. Apparently if you do not order an expensive enough meal, you are not allowed to have a bun!! The waitress brought the bread and there were only 2 buns for a table of 3 people. Seems 80 year old Gramma, without the big appetite, had ordered something small so was left out of the bun world at Chop! Nice. Couldn't afford to give everyone bread at the prices you charge??

Chopped steakhouse downtown edmonton location we had a table of fifteen people. Everyone at the table had the wrong food given to them the steals were cooked wrong we notified the staff they ignored us one of our party even sent her food back they bring out the replacment and it's cooked incorrectly. They never asked for dessert or anything they ignored us I had to ask to speak to the manager after we explained what was wrong with our meal the manager says o we will take %20 off your bill a lot of good that does when the mandatory gratuity is %18 that's basically f**** You to is I for one will be letting everyone I know not to eat at this restaurant.
It's now 10:30 pm we have been here since 6:40 dinner has been over since 8 pm and we are still waiting on our bill
Melanie
Terrible experience!!! My order was incorrect TWICE! Tried to comment to the staff but I was ignored. Spoke to the manager and he offered a whopping 20 % discount. We arrived at 7 pm and weren't served our meals until after 9pm. This is my second time at this location and they screwed it up the first time too. Thought I'd give it another shot but much to my disappointment , it was no better! Worst steak experience
Ever!

Fav spot downtown. Great atmosphere with overly accomadating staff and delicious food. even though it is a steakhouse, they offer a number of options for us vegetarians, such as the mushroom ravioli! definitely in my top places to go downtown (:

I didn't even know there was a dining room upstairs! Such a nice romantic dining room! They even showed us their private dining room for 12 which we will definitely use for future get togethers! Steak bites were amazing! I had the filet and it was perfectly cooked. My husband had the prime rib and he said it was amazing with fresh horse radish. I'm excited to go back and try the fish!
Nicole
Great lounge atmosphere and service! Cocktails have an interesting spin and the food is great!

Very accommodating for couples with baby. The appetizers arrived very quickly which was good. The starter salad and soup came before we had finished our crab tacos (yumyum) 5 minutes longer would have been nice. But let's not complain about promptness.
My steak oscar was cooked perfectly and so was my husbands.
Desserts were nothing spectacular. Had the rum cake and creme brûlée.
Disappointed in my lemonade. Water with a squirt of lemon juice does NOT a lemonade make.... Especially for $3.29
Our servers were friendly and professional.

Awesome night!. I came in for a quick beer and ended up staying for dinner as i couldnt resist that smoked ribeye that my server was talking about. Best steak ever and awesome service. i will be back.

Shortage of spoons, excellent crab tacos. We went for a Saturday night dinner using a GC we had from Christmas. We'd already been once for lunch and once for dinner, and had kind of up and down experiences. This was no different. We spent a while reading Open Table and Urbanspoon reviews beforehand and were laughing at the problems people had with cutlery, and noticed the frequent complaint that food was cold and dishes were left on the table. Yup. They weren't making it up.

First, the waitstaff is very pretty indeed, male and female. They're all stunning, and very pleasant and willing. Not highly trained, exactly, but they want to please, which is more than half the battle.

They were almost too attentive at first, hardly giving us a second with the menu, but we had thought about it beforehand, so no problem. We ordered a bottle of Viognier (lower price end for them, but I had a craving for Viognier), which was drinkable but not much better, but whatever. It was fine. We weren't offered water but got it as soon as we asked (tap was available, not just still and sparkling, thank goodness).

Food: we had the crab tacos (and added a 4th to the order of three), which was the best thing of the night. The home-made taco shells were delicious, very crunchy and corny, and there was a good amount of tasty crab inside. It was too cold, but a few minutes on the table solved that. It came with a blob of excellent guacamole on top , a ponzu vinaigrette, and a wasabi aioli, which were excellent. We also ordered the carpaccio, which had a nice amount of peppery arugula on top and lots of shaved parm, but was sadly lacking salt and acid. There was a lemon wedge, which helped. The weirdest thing, though: there were capers on the plate, but they had NO flavour whatsoever. They tasted like little round balls of leaves. I'm pretty sure someone drained a jar of capers and RINSED the hell out of them. Oops. I adore capers, so this was disappointing.

My partner ordered the 7 oz sirloin with king crab legs, which came with a variety of options; she went for the Caesar salad, the seasonal vegetables, and an additional order of asparagus. The Caesar salad was outstanding - lots of cheese, crisp greens, lots of bacon, and an excellent garlicky, anchovy-heavy dressing. No croutons, but we had extra toast from the carpaccio, so that was fine. I'm not crazy about Caesar salad, but this could change my mind. The asparagus was nicely done, and worth the extra charge. The seasonal vegetables were boring - underdone carrot spears and some zucchini wedges (and how exactly zucchini is seasonal in Edmonton in March is not quite clear to me) - but edible.

Her crab legs were cooked from frozen, I'm pretty sure. The meat had that feel to it. It was tasty enough, and melted butter will solve many ills. The sirloin was pretty tough, though. It was cooked medium-rare, as requested, but it needed salt, and was just chewy and not that great a cut. We met a pitbull on the train on the way home who enjoyed a bite of the leftovers, and our own dogs will appreciate it, so there's that.

I had the wasabi crusted ahi tuna. Chop seems to get good fish in, and this was good. It was definitely too cold, but it was tender and tasty, and the sauce was nice - it had bite but wasn't overwhelming. The wasabi-infused mashed potatoes were excellent - they were my second favorite thing of the night after the crab tacos.

For dessert we ordered a lemon thing with italian meringue in a sort of crispy crepe cup. It was a bit sweet for us but pretty and well made, and I know lots of people with sweeter teeth would love it. A bit of unsweetened whipped cream would have cut the sweetness nicely. My partner's espresso was fine - not burnt (a miracle! Most Edmonton restaurants have their espresso machines turned up way too high).

Service-wise, there were two hilarious moments. We'd read reviews about people having plates left on their table, and that sounded OK, since I object to having my fellow-diners' plates whisked away while I'm still eating, or worse, having someone try to extract my plate from me while I'm still eating from it. No, it turns out they meant that all the first course plates (salad bowl, two small plates, two big serving plates) were left there cluttering up the table even after the main courses were served, as ours were. Why exactly the busboy who delivered the mains didn't take them away with him, even if no one had bothered to remove them beforehand, is a mystery. The host/ manager swung by shortly thereafter to ask if all was well, and my generally mild-mannered partner snarled that it would be MUCH BETTER if someone could take away the old plates. Which he promptly did, but I got a fit of the giggles.

The other thing that got me going was the dessert. We'd read about a large party ordering 8 soups and getting them with 4 spoons, and another party of 4 getting 3 teaspoons and a tablespoon to eat a shared dessert with. So when we ordered the lemon dessert TO SHARE, I quipped, "Hey, I wonder how many spoons they'll bring?" You guessed it: ONE SPOON. We got another one right away when we asked for it, but jeez. I was laughing fit to burst at this point. Possibly the mediocre Viognier helped.

Anyway, it was a pleasant evening, and the server was very nice indeed. We gave her a really good tip to make up for me cackling like a hyena. I'm not sure we'll be back - three trips might be enough. The crab tacos, the Caesar salad and the mashed potatoes were really excellent, but not really enough to make it a destination.

Good food, but not impressed with service. We went here for a family birthday celebration during downtown dinning week and I felt the food was pretty good, but the service not so much. The servers either didn't have, or kept mixing up the drink orders, and also brought the wrong entree for myself. They corrected their mistake and replaced it with my proper order right away. I had the Sirloin which I thought was quite nice. I thought the butternut squash soup was very good, the sour cream in it was a nice touch, although it seemed as though it could have been warmer. The Caribbean Rum Cake was great!
Brittany
Great atmosphere and service. I had the filet mignon and French onion soup and it was fantastic. Best steak I've ever had. Defiantly will be back!

Chop, Chop Indeed. First Visit: yes on March 22
Atmosphere: Rude hostesses and servers
Lunch/Dinner: Dinner
Guest: 3
Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

This is part of our downtown dining week visit last night and I have never been treated so rude and witness the terrible service starting at the entrance. Our reservation was for 6:00 and we arrived 10 mins early and I was fine waiting for our table as it was not available. I do not need attitude from both hostesses to tell me that I am too early, when I am simply checking in. Second, if you can not serve your guests then don't work your shift with a sour face all evening or attempt to take both my sister and friends' entrees away from them when they are not done. Clearly you are not ready for dinner rush as you run out of plates at 7:00 o'clock and literally took my friends entree away from her the second time around as you and other servers gave us the impression "chop, chop hurry up and eat...we need your table" to a suppose finer dining experience! Mike (He) was too busy serving other tables that had more guests thinking that would justify him getting more tips. I gave you 2 stars instead of 1 as the dessert was good. If I was the boss, all the hostesses would have been fired on the spot for their rude behaviour to us and to guests over the phone. WE ARE CHOPPING THIS OFF OUR LIST FOREVER.

My boyfriend and I made a dinner reso here last night. Upon arriving we were a little bit confused whether we were supposed to check in with a host. We did not see any signs directing us to wait to be seated or go ahead... So we went and seated ourselves.
The first dish my boyfriend ordered, we were informed they were out of, so he decided to go with the same choice as I did (lobster fettuccine). Then the manager came to our table to inform us they were out of that dish as well and offered us a substitute. We over heard staff inform customers of other dishes that they were running out of. Having worked in this industry I understand this happens and how embarrassing it is! The evening was obviously (unexpectedly?) very busy and yet our server was delightful all night... Thanks to her for the great and friendly service! For the food... The coconut and lime mussels appy was great, the mussels were cooked perfectly! I thought the entree was average, but my boyfriend really enjoyed his (we both ordered the original choice, I had mine with salmon and he had his with chicken).

Better Service at McDonald's. I will never eat here again.

We visited this past saturday night (Feb.1) with a group of about 20. The service was unfriendly and slow. Nearly every single person in our group had a problem with their food. My plate arrived at the table and was presented as the sirloin....I ordered the filet. Upon telling the server this, I watched him wander around the restaurant, chat with another server for a few seconds, and then return with the same plate and say "here's the filet, sorry about that!"
The food itself was mediocre and could easily be made at home. Not worth the money at all. After leaving, our entire group decided it was a mistake to go there and none of us will ever go back.

Visited this weekend and sorely disappointed in both the service and food.

Arrived in the late afternoon to an essentially empty restaurant with two other couples in a room which looked capable of holding >100. Two staff at the bar didn't acknowledge us though we'd seated ourselves within full view. They continued to chat at the bar for several minutes before one came by to offer us menus and left saying our server would be with us soon. Another several minutes rolled by when our server came in, clearly having been busy doing some other errand that had taken her off the premises. We were
appalled at the lack of teamwork - either of the other two girls could easily have poured us some water, for crying out loud!

Our orders were taken and the food arrived reasonably promptly, delivered by the manager, I believe, given his attire. My salmon burger and French Onion soup were all right; however, my husband's burger was terribly salty and the side of ketchup had a thick skin on it - definitely not fresh. To top it all off, the glass that he'd been blissfully drinking from had lipstick marks on it which he noticed only at the end. Ugh!

Definitely won't be heading back there again.

Went to Chop for NYE dinner and for the first time ever. We started with lobster gorgonzola dip and snap peas-- both were good and standard. Our main courses were New York Striploin and Steak and Lobster. The one thing this place gets right is the steak cooking-- if you order medium you get medium, if you order medium rare you get medium rare. I don't suggest the Cesar Salad if you're looking to get cozy later, doesn't seem like Chop understands how to use garlic properly. However, I do love that you get complimentary bread at the table. Total for our meal $102.00 with tip on top. Overall a nice evening.

We stayed at Sutton place hotel this past weekend and we ordered room service. The kitchen told my husband they were out of wings which, can happen we understand. However, I ordered the Berkeley salad and it isn't a cheap salad. Looked so good on the menu I just had to have it. It came very wilted almost as if they had collected people's unfinished salads and that's what I got. They didn't put the chicken on it and there was someone else's macaroni on my salad!!!! That was it! Chicken or no chicken this salad was inedible. I was sad to have had this bad experience as I wrote my first review dec 3 2013 and it was one of our face restaurants at that time. Won't be back. And def will NEVER order room service. Terrible. Just terrible.

-----04 Dec, 2013-----

We went to the chop steakhouse for the very first time last Sunday. Very pleasantly surprised. Had no idea it was there. Great service! Amazing food! Had the steak which was cooked perfectly, my husband had the hamburger. Very good. Will definitely be returning!

DISAPPOINTING!!. I recently dined at Chop with 5 friends. We are all servers here in Edmonton...and very skilled at what we do. The service was terrible! We waited 20 minutes, once seated, before we were asked if we'd like a beverage. Our appetizers took too long. They weren't great. After giving the waiter our entree orders he failed to remove any of the dirty dishes from our table. We had to flag someone down to remove them so we could have some elbow room, as we were squished into a booth for 6. I had requested a table when I made the reservation. Five of us ordered steak. Only 2 of us got our steaks cooked the way we'd asked for them. The mushrooms were barely lukewarm and my rice was cold. Considering the prices, the food should have been fantastic. Though the service was crappy, we were still kind enough to leave a 20% tip. We will NEVER dine there again!!

Well where to begin, me and my friend were relatively first timers to edmonton on thanksgiving sunday, krista was our server and we were happy to have found a spot period, she was fantastic, service was wonderful, we were greeted by a manager and our food was delicious and cooked properly also the presentation was wonderful. We ordered wine and krista provided wonderful wine service. Myself am from nova scotia but have lived in montrael so I know good wine service! At the end krista suggested a place to go afterwards and we recieved our bottle of wine for free! Its been a little while since recieving such a great experience we talked after and would return for the service even if everything else was terrible but everything was great! Good job krista :)

Great for a business traveller. I spent four nights at Sutton Place and was in Chop every night. I found the food to be consistently excellent. What set this place apart for me, though, is the service staff. The servers are gorgeous, to be sure, but they stand out not because of their looks, but because of their wonderful demeanours. Let`s be honest, in the grand scheme, beauty is pretty common. But shining and authentic personality just isn`t as pervasive.

I had four different servers over the course of the week, and I found each of them to be welcoming and engaging and genuine. As someone travelling solo for business, this kind of warmth is much more valuable than just great food alone.

While I`m sure they`re all great, you`ll be doing yourself a favour if you can seat yourself into a section belonging to Suzanne, Darcie, Becky, or Miranda.

Blinded by the glitter of the babes!. First visit was for lunch on a Wednesday, we had just checked into the Sutton Place Hotel. Our first impression was good, loving the server babefest thing happening here! Kudos to the Chops H & R department. Meal? what meal?. Food order consisted of Peppercorn Steak Sandwich which was very good. Second order was Chop salad with grilled chicken, which was very average at best.

Came back for a second time to try the dinner menu, Server was overly attentive from the start, there's no need to constantly check on a table. The appetizer sliders were lame, way to much focus on presentations rather than quality of food. I ordered what I thought was shaved deli meat and goat cheese stuffed into chicken breast. Surprise...all they did was stuff some cheese between the skin and meat which was unbelievably dry. Just couldn't get it down as I have a low tolerance for dry meat of any kind. I was forced to survive on the almost over cooked rice and veggies. Dave #2 ordered the Salmon, have to give them high score on that order, presentation was quite nice, he said it was excellent.
By the time I had almost finished the manager came by and asked if we enjoyed our meal. I said nothing as I was irritated and tired after a long day at work, but Dave #2 commented on the dry poulet. Great so now he wants to bring me another meal...why do they do that? when it is obvious you are almost finished. They know you won't order another meal. Saving grace he did not charge us for the dry chicken order.
As was noted in another review the selection of draft beer is very lame!Dave#2 would go back for the Salmon though!

Best steakhouse in edmonton. Good atmosphere. Steak and mashed is amazing and the servers are always friendly. Also breakfast is amazing if you're staying in the hotel.

Friday's special is the best. Gotta admit I am at CHOP at least 2-3 times a week. Service (our favorite server is Celine) knows exactly what we want by the day of the week we come in! Excellent service!!! Food is always spot on - Friday's is our favorite with the Blackened Prime Rib Sandwich (can never go bad with that choice), chicken wings are great as are all of the appetizers but the steak bites are FANTASTIC!! Thursday's burger special is tasty and cooked perfectly! Steak sandwiches are always good and the Ahi Tuna salad is to "die" for!!!!

Trystan and his staff are warm, friendly and approachable. I keep returning and bringing more people and we all enjoy -- don't listen to the bad reviews, in all of our times here we've only truly had one bad experience but it was addressed and taken care of immediately. You will never find a better general manager ever!

Thursday's Mimosas are the best ever - Friday's Greyhound is another fav - whether it be lunch or dinner - service and food is always great! I especially enjoy the appetizeres in the evenings - always yummy and great for sharing!

So people - head to CHOP ask for Celine as a server and you'll never be disappointed!

Disappointing. A gift card brought us to the restaurant. The food won't bring us back.

The service was adequate, but the food was extremely disappointing. The wedge salad - lettuce, carrot, tomato and cucumbers was presented nicely, but the ingredients failed to inspire. The raw vegetable theme continued on to the entree which was served with spotty green beans that had perhaps been run under hot tap water. These were adjacent to lightly steamed(?) peppers. Both were bland and thoughtless.

My dinner partner's choice was a seafood boil special that was supposed to include crab, prawns and mussels. The crab seemed overdone, and the mussels were invisible. Once we inquired, we were told 'they were out of mussels'. She was offered an extra scone to compensate. Scones aren't seafood.

Moving on the dessert, we chanced the Lemon Meringue cup special. The crispy crepe-like cup was dark brown and tasted burned and the lemon goo it held was chock full of cornstarch lumps. We weren't comped anything on the bill.

Won't be back any time soon. We don't complain lightly - in fact, I actually started a user account to Urbanspoon just to review this disappointing experience.
Tammy
Bad service with subpar food. Waitress was poor, no dishes cleared from table, no drinks, and order came out wrong.

Hostess was also very poor, and didn't acknowledge us at all upon arriving.

Food was not good

Not worth it
Carlena
Worst dinning experience ive ever had. We stood in the front of the resteraunt for 15 minuets waiting for someone to come and seat us when the resteraunt was dead. We physically had to call the restraunt while we were standing there to get them to send someone up to seat us. Then when it came time to get our food the portions were the size for a toddler, and especially for the prices they charge ... its pretty bad. On top of all thatmy dad had huge chunks of bacon fat that he was pulling out of his mouth. Very disgusting. Not happy at all with this place. We will most definately not be setting foot back into chop steak house

Don't believe the hype 3/5. I went to this restaurant for this first time this weekend. Many people have been raving about it but its nothing special, pretty standard on par with a moxie's/Joey's/Earl's. Nothing too unique about it.

My review of the food:

Drink- Gin and Tonic 2oz, tasted watered down and is nothing compared to moxie's 2oz gin and tonic.

Appetizer- Butternut squash soup. Pretty good, but hard to mess up a soup

Entre- 9oz prime rib w/ mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were standard. The prime rib didn't have any flavor at all, and I was quite disappointed.

The GF had the mushroom ravioli which I thought was quite tasty, however the portion size were pretty small.

Dessert- Creme Brule. Had better at the westin hotel, portion size were tiny

Overall 3/5. Parking can also be a problem downtown.
Socialworkin' Masterblaster
Average food. Disappointing due to what I had heard about the food. The steak was tough, cheese on French onion soup was not melted, and they tried to grab a double tip.

Beautiful lounge. Great bartender. I had the crab cakes. Was dry and pretty much all breading. I guess I can cut this review short....when are we gonna stop supporting over priced restaurant chains that provdes nothing good and rakes millions every year. It's an epidemic. Hate it. Where are the good old mom and pa restaurants???????
Val Fedotova
Pre cooked - did not enjoy anything one but - tried 2 starters - the lobster and scallop dip- was soo fishy & the cheese toast was wayy too salty - then my main meal was luke warm, the lounge had an airy feel as the dining room with the weird decor with NO windows and soft walls made me feel like i was in an insane assulum, all the waiters wore the same ugly pinstriped shirts that looked way too big on some and could barely walk in their heels as they have to wear them, it was too controlled and staged of an environment, bad food also won't be coming back
John O'Callaghan
Absolutely the worst service in the downtown core. Comically bad draft beer selection. The food is mediocre at best (and for the price, falls short on value). A gorgeous bar that will likely be taken over in a year or two by a company that knows the restaurant business.
Chubby Chicken
Overbooked and Undercompensated. Our experience at Chop was disappointing. The food was actually quite good, as was the service, but we had a reservation for a busy new year’s eve. Despite confirming this reservation early in the day when we arrived were told we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. It actually turned out to be 30, and while I understand these things happen, the management did not attempt to make up for this inconvenience in anyway. Normally you would expect to be served a drink or an appetizer while you waited. In addition, a full half hour after ordering our waitress came back to explain they were out of the New York Strip we ordered, at a steakhouse! Again, nothing was offered by way of compensation and we still paid full bill.

Excellent food.. Great steak and good variety of drinks..

I want to love this place so much (excellent food) but the service really needs to improve.. Yeah I said it. It's kinda mean and condescending to say such words but the service team needs to get their stuff together. Waiting forever to take our orders. It's like the sense of time is lost. Dishes dropping here and there. I mean, with time, I am more than 100% sure that the team will be competent like every other steakhouse in town. For now, though, whoever that dares to dine here needs a lot of patience... and a generous tip too because you need to keep the servers' spirits up high!

The visit is within what, 2 weeks of opening (Dec XX, 2012), so take note. This place might improve in the future.

The food is absolutely outstanding! I love it I love it I love it. It is such a surprise to eat such great food. There's taste in this stuff. I'm surprised. Usually it's pretty tasteless at steakhouses (OK my beef rib did taste really... tasteless and healthy) but the Chop Platter and that Lobster whatever dip were absolutely amazing. The sangria w/ red wine was "meh". The portion size on my beef rib could've fed two horses. So. Big. In fact, I got bored near the end eating it and I was trying not to waste food or something... Or I was just starting to compare to Corso 32's beef rib which is absolutely unbeatable.

For diners with 1000% patience, please come here and enjoy the food and atmosphere. For all others, stay far far away until the service improves because you never want to eat angry. You can drive angry though... ;)

3.5/5 Needs Work. We 4 arrived on time with reservations on Open Table for the dinning room. No problem. This new resto in the Sutton has the same confused layout of the former Sutton restaurant. Restaurant upstairs above the lounge via a stairway past washrooms and kitchen or accessed from the second floor walkway. Dysfunctional, and for the lady in the group, a hefty confusing walk to the ladies bathroom with even the staff commenting about it. The lounge below I will not comment on as our dinner was in the dining room. Not much has changed in this room other than the wall coverings and furnishings. They are different, not unpleasant but not the most expected or comfortable tones and texture for a steak and chophouse. We were promptly seated. Staff were efficient, friendly and trained, particularly the staff from the bar that delivered there up selling suggestion from well drinks to premium brand liquor. They are eager to assist in selection of wine, I had to cut her short and advised I know a "little" something about wine and needed no assistance. The wine list is adequate, however far too many American wines with but few European wines...a real disappointment to this group. The mark-up was running 3.5 retail on bottles we were familiar with. We stared with a great scotch for one of the party and some gins & soda for others followed by appetizers of the crab and shrimp cakes, and fire roasted chicken wings, coated with bacon and Parmesan. The wings were good, albeit served lukewarm. If they were fire roasted, it was yesterday and they were in the fridge and warmed at room temp, as that is how they arrived. They were tasty given they were cool. These were followed by caesar salad and orders of wedge salads - nothing remarkable here - and the group thought they were so so. The wine we ordered was a bottle of house red, Italian, a light weight mediocre Cab Sauv Sicilian. We wanted to try this as we live downtown and might with frequency visit Chop or its lounge again...so understanding their "house" wine is important. While drinkable, it is not something we would ever order again. 3 prime ribs dinners - large size came next and one filet mignon - accompanied by choices of sides of loads of veggies, potatoes etc. These we enjoyed very much, 3 prime rib served medium rare and very nice, the filet served medium also well received the by lady. Desert followed with the Caribbean rum cake, and the raspberry cream brûlée. Both dishes were flavourful and nice, and these were finished with coffee, espresso and some additional glasses of wine. Not an unpleasant meal, but we thought the appetizers were a disappointment - cold food always it, the salads need a make over pronto as they over promise in the menu description and under deliver at the table. The prime rib needs no changes - but serving size (ounces apron.) should be stated on the menu. We enjoyed ourselves over all, but frankly this had more to do about us, than the comfort of the dining room. This dining room is not warm or inviting...it is functional. In this regards it is not much better than what was there previously...a business hotel dining room, perfunctory at best. The interior designers who came up with this concept clearly live on the West Coast, as this room was cold and cold...instead of warm and inviting tonight at -24C. 3.5 Stars and not planning a return visit to the dining room anytime soon. The lounge, we will stop in and order up the wings and see if they come out hot or cold - a simple enough task for the brigade on duty in the kitchen.

Dinner tonight was at CHOP Steakhouse & Bar, the new location (in downtown, inside Sutton Place Hotel). I’ve passed by the south location of this restaurant numerous times & I wondered what it had to offer. Therefore, coming here was quite exciting for me! [Sorry for the poor picture quality =( ] The interior was nice..almost TOO nice. I don’t know…there’s this “pedway” on the 2nd floor of the hotel, which leads to the restaurant. It was kinda intimidating…not sure where I was supposed to go. Once you enter, it looks even more highclass. Well, I don’t know what to compare it to. Everything looked nice but .. it wasn’t all that nice at the same time? I think the reason for that is because it was really cramped. Cramped fine dining?…. it was sorta awkward. But anyways, interior aside, food… meh. I ordered this Roasted Mushroom Ravioli with chicken. I’ve already expected it to be small…but holy.. Not sure how this was worth the price at all! :@ I counted…6 ravi
