Review The Underground Tap & Grill - Edmonton

We had the best time at Drag brunch today. The servers were awesome and very friendly. Food was really good. The drag performers were so much fun. Love the atmosphere. Would definitely go again, not just for drag brunch but a fun night out too.

Great local hangout, very chill vibes, and friendly staff. The food here is amazing, the chef deserves mad ups 👏🏻 Very underrated Edmonton restaurant & lots of beers on tap! Can't recommend it enough 😍

Absolutely exceptional beer line up. Stouts (try peanut butter milk and ice cutter vanilla latte) sours (cranberry) and wheat ale ( grapefruit radler, 1674 Fruit Rouges and Roser d'hibiscus) Food is outstanding. Bacon wrapped avocado bombs are great and perfectly grilled steak. Rob's service was amazing. He gave excellent beer recommendations, paired well with dinner and dessert. A must stop in downtown Edmonton.

Amazing experience here! Ordered an Old fashion and it was perfect, the second round wasn’t as nice as the first one. After talking to the waiter he knew exactly why it wasn’t perfect and fixed it. ( I never asked for it to be fixed or replace. I just mentioned that it was obviously made by someone different the second time and seemed unbalanced) We also ordered the classic wings, pot stickers and Adobo Duck drumsticks. All 3 were absolutely delicious!

Went here on a third date and I recently returned with the same man after three happy years! Wonderful service, and the beer selection was GREAT! We also were shocked at how inexpensive the food was for how good it was! Unique atmosphere in a great location. Highly recommend!

Lots of seating here, service was great, food was great! Had the poutine and the steak bites with dessert after and enjoyed all of it

Enjoyed our drinks and meal at the Underground Tap & Grill 🍺✨ Our server was so lovely and friendly! I had a lovely beer from Montreal and the vegan pesto spaghettini - both were amazing 🤩 Will definitely be back 😊

Congradulations on #1 draft beer in Edmonton as voted by foursquare 2016. Like a hidden gem in the downtown core; prepare to be taken away and amazed. Boasting one of the finest tap lists in town, as well as rotating taps and speciality kegs. A perfect place to impress your friends, out of town guests or just stop for a quality pint of some of the best beers in the world! Underground also has a globally inspired food menu ranging from Jamaican lamb curry to Pad thai and ramen, to poutine au canard to polenta gnocchi. They also have great vegan and vrgetarian options.

Great beer selection and even better menu! Recommend the duck wings for a filling snack or the Ribs for filling meal!

I want to say that the food and beer selection here is amazing, and our initial server was friendly and awesome. However, when she went off shift, we were supposed to be transitioned to a new server and never were. We waited 45 minutes with no service until my husband finally got up to tell someone (the hostess I think), and he was met with total rudeness. We bought a LOT of food and beer, we were very polite up until we stopped being served, then suddenly we were treated like nuisances instead of valued customers. Despite it being Canada Day it was not busy at all, there were empty tables all around us, so there was no excuse for ignoring us. As we left, the hostess was very sarcastic and rude, which was uncalled for and ruined our holiday. A great beer restaurant marred by unprofessional service.

The Underground is a quiet, clean pub with 72 beers on tap. It's two or three blocks away from two establishments with more prominent locations and music that's played too loud. The bartender and server on the night I had dinner with three friends were friendly and professional. We were there on steak night, so that was a treat. It was reasonably priced. I would go back if/when I visit Edmonton again.
Dylan Dyck
Fantastic service, fantastic food and one of the best selections of beer you'll find in the city. Can't say enough good things, Underground has become a main hangout for myself and my friends.
Jonathan Friesen
Awesome service. Stellar food! It got busy as hell down there, and our server still kicked ass, and stayed super attentive to our table! I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in the city
Paul DeBruyn
I liked my burger and pouting, however my wife's grilled cheese was burnt pretty bad. The waitress didn't come do a quality check and didn't notice that she only ate the unburnt parts when she gathered the plates. The disco music was really annoying to say the least.

Went here after Garth Brooks Saturday night!!! Love the Peach Martini.... Awesome!!! Had the Bacon Avacado Grilled Cheese..... Amazing!! Cool atmosphere and would recommend to anyone travelling to Edmonton!!!
Jeff Nicole Churchill
This was our first time here and it won't be the last. The food was amazing. Mac and cheese balls omg! Best bison Burger I ever had. Not to mention the beer. Over 70 different and friendly staff. Can't wait to go back.
Shannon Piner
Our server tonight, Chelsea, and the BOH were amazing!! As a celiac, I was impressed with their attention to detail, and accommodation to meet my needs.
Kate Hines
I am so impressed! Went on Monday and got their steak special- you won't regret! Plus their beer menu rivals craft.
Kevin James
Nachos were good, loved the flights of beer. I would have liked it if the beer was colder, but generally a decent experience
Ron J Woodford
Always a good time. The beer selection is always interesting and delicious. Food and staff are great as well
Ken Horibe
Wonderful bar, not only beers and foods (it’s really good), but people are fantastic and friendly.
Nick Rolheiser
Best rotational tap lineup in town. Great service and servers actually know things about craft beer. menu is uncomplicated and food is great! cool atmosphere where music isn't too loud
Eric Gilbert
best pub in Edmonton

Its a really nice place to enjoy a really good beer, not just any beer, but 75 different awsome beers. And the crew (the staff) is awsome.

Weekly Rotational craft beers on tap makes for an interesting visit each time. Food is consistent and comes out quick during lunch rush. Service was comical as the server forgot to take my order...a slight miscommunication but more funny than anything else. Manager was quick to respond when he saw me chasing the server through the bar. Tasty food and reasonably priced. The drinks at full pop are a bit pricy...wait for happy hour and save a few bucks.

Service right away was excellent. There was someone who came immediately to greet and seat us. Right after we sat down we got greeted by our server. Super friendly right away, told us about the specials of the night and took our drink order. She gave us a good amount of time to look through the menu and checked up on us a good amount of times to make sure everything was going well!<br/><br/>I mainly came here to get their mac & cheese balls because I remember getting them at the taste of Edmonton and thinking they were amazing.<br/><br/>Unfortunately The food was just okay. I got their chickpea and quinoa veggie burger.. I've just had better. The mac & cheese balls were like I remember. And usually deep fried cheese is always delicious.<br/><br/>They have a pretty creative menu with lots of variety.<br/><br/>Love that they are open late, cause I tend to go out to eat at 10pm.<br/><br/>Overall, good experience. I would go back again to try more of their menu since they do have a few vegan/vegetarian items. But I'm not dying to go back.
Anthony
I go here quite often (due to their location) for lunch or dinner. Their food is good, when visiting, you have to try their mac and cheese balls - for some reason, every time I am there, I always end up ordering it. Overall, their service is not bad, some days it is a bit on the slow side but... they have lots of different beers on tap.
Melanie
We stopped here for dinner before a concert. There was some construction so they offered 20% off food and 5 dollar beer. The server was nice but a bit dispassionate. It felt as though we were not a priority at all. The food took longer then we expected and it did not come out all together. However the food was exceptionally good. The menu had great choices and the prices were not too high. <br/><br/>As we ended our meal the service was slow and we were ready with our coats on before the last plates were taken away. I also feel that it is very poor to offer tip options at 20% and 25% on the debit machine. I was thankful for the "other" option so I could add a 15% tip. <br/><br/>I would go back here. The food was impressive and we may have just had a random moment of bad luck with the service.
Donald
Great atmosphere, nice drink selection. Had gluten free selections (we were with someone who is celiac). The food was served in big portions and it was also good. If you're looking for a fun place downtown with good food and drink head here.
TJW
Beer selection great, but it helps to know what you like/want because staff aren't experts. The food is good, sometimes almost great. Service is good, but not enough staff working the floor. THE MUSIC IS JUST THE FREAKING WORST. It has been since this place opened and it's why I don't come here more.
Shana Helmle
Terrible service, and there was only 3 other people in the whole place. Not a good experience. Food wasn't that good either, no wonder it wasn't busy on a Friday night.
Gluten Free Edmonton
The Manager from the The Underground Tap and Grill is located downtown contacted me about their lunch and dinner menus that feature many clearly labelled Celiac friendly options. Ontop of a gluten free menu options, The Underground Tap and Grill does carry gluten free beer options on their drink menu, and will have added a gluten free dessert to their upcoming 2015-016 winter menu.
Kim
I thought this place was ok. The service we got was not good, we had to wait a long time to get our second drinks and didn't stay for more after those cause we had to go. Food was alright, it could have been better but was an acceptable accompaniment to drinks. I probably wouldn't go for just good though. The drink menu was great, lots of good beer and beer cocktails.
Panda
Myself and 2 friends came here for dinner. Overall it was a good experience, our server went over the different beers they had on special with us and was quite friendly throughout. I had the green onion cake sandwich which was flavorful and one of the more unique items in Edmonton. The only complaint I had was that we ordered an appetizer about 15 minutes before ordering the main and they came out at the same time. There was a small error in the bill as well which was corrected.
LJ
Excellent food and great service. The DJ that night was crap but I'd let that slide as a one off. It looked a little expensive at first but the food portions made up for the price. Beer was great and I liked the underground hidden bar ambiance. A lot of my favourite bars are lower level.
BananaRocket
Great food and beer.<br/><br/>This place has rapidly become my fav place for food and beer with the guys.<br/><br/>Room is mellow and classy. Tee shirts and jeans fit in just was well as full suits.<br/><br/>Service is good but could come back to the table a bit more often. But the're knowledgeable about beer and can make good suggestions.<br/><br/>The food is good, upscale gastro pub. Best thing I've had so far is the Canard Poutine, it's so good with an ale.<br/><br/>Love the place.

I found this place on the internet and, while I probably wouldn’t have been attracted by the menu especially, I saw that they offer 72 beers on tap. I love sampling different brews and I thought that I could spend a pleasant few hours doing so and also see what they could do for a nice supper as well…
The Pretentious Food Snob
Maybe we were running on fumes for the past few hours, or maybe the liquor just made everything taste better, but the stars aligned and everything was nearly perfect. The gastronomical geniuses behind the scenes at The Underground have seemingly discovered the perfect ratio of greasy, salty, and crispy, and have applied it to everything on the menu...

Today was my 3rd time at the Underground Tap & Grill. All of my experiences there have been positive so far. Today 2 of us dined. I had the French Onion and Fennel Soup and the Blackened Tidbits and my friend had the Azteca Salad. We were both very happy with our meals. 👌👌The waitress was kind and there were no hiccups. 👍🏼 Good clean atmosphere. The only reason they didn't get a 5/5 is because 2 of the tidbits were gristly but other than that they were delish! Now just we need to go back when we're not on our lunch hour so we can try their famous Beer Sampler Tray! 🍻🍻🍻

For a Saturday night at 8 pm it was dead ....... Randomly the food and service were amazing ! Fresh cut fries, very attentive server, and a great green onion cake sandwich. Would come back for sure.

Not impressed with service. My hubby and I have been here a few times. But today was the worse service ever. The bill doesn't even say if the sever is Cassandra or Kristin. They or she couldn't rushed us faster from the bar. I get the bad wings tattoo in her back for a 40's old server is very outdated. But if u wanna get the tips, u clearly won't get any, provide us with a better service and smile. <br/>Even after I say I didn't want the bill and wanted to chill out, since the bar wasn't busy, she brought the it and the machine "is it gonna be debit or cash?". Credit HONEY!<br/>By the way, since when wheat beers are flat? Oh yeah, the service was provided with 10% off. Woooooooo!
Evan
Tastey but not unique. I went here with some friends for dinner and had the Bison Burgers. The place was very similar to a normal bar and pub with the same style of food. The service was slow which was understandable because it was extremely busy. I would recommend for a group to go just for normal pub food. Other than that its a pretty average place.

Was staying at the Hotel MacDonald on business alone and wanted to go elsewhere for a more lively dinner. Atmosphere was great, good beer selection, friendly service & the Red Stripe Jerk Chicken was amazing! Delicious and healthy! Yum!

Went there last night for dinner and drinks. They have over 70 craft beers on tap that you can create your own sampler tray with. Tried some amazing dark beers. I had the stuffed green onion cake sandwich with pulled pork. It was awesome. I am craving it right now! Tried a bite of the burger and meatball sub. Both are tasty as well. The meatball was seasoned perfectly. <br/>Would definitely eat here again.

Tapas and Drinks. I've been here twice now and it's definitely a unique location. I remember it used to be the Treasury's coat room so to my surprise a huge bar/lounge was there now. Noticed them at Taste of Edmonton and wanted to try the bison burger in full. My husband enjoyed the varying kinds of beers and the server knew how to recommend them. Service isn't as attentive as it should be but when our server did return they were always friendly and helpful. I ordered off the tapas special menu and really enjoyed it, probably even more than the regular menu! I had Indian style fried broccoli and a flat bread, I still think about it today. It's a nice quiet place to catch up with friends.

If you can't afford to go out, stay home!. The Underground has a lot going for it, especially the awesome beer selection. <br/><br/>Unfortunately our visit had a sour ending.. Prior to heading there for the first time, my friends told me the best part about the Underground was that you could sample the beers. <br/><br/>We sat at the bar on an almost dead night. The ladies with us sampled one beer each before ordering. <br/><br/>I noticed our server was short on patience, so I just went ahead and ordered, it took around 5-10 minutes for her to pour the beer. <br/><br/>My mate, being a hoppy-beer-head, wanted to make sure he was getting the absolutely most hoppy beer available, and wanted to try a third. Well, I finished my first pint before he got his third sample. Not only that, when our server finally got around to it, she almost threw it at him, clearly not pleased. <br/><br/>We carried on and had fun for the next bit, ordering more beers and waiting long waits. The thing is, the lady serving us wasn't running around taking care of other customers, she was just hanging out chatting with her co-workers. The place was almost empty and so that was pretty weak. <br/><br/>When it came time to leave, I told my friends there was no way we were going to leave a tip for her, that would just be ridiculous. <br/><br/>After paying, I took my change off the counter and got up to go. Our server (who could best be described as an ugly blond version of Zena the Princess Warrior), started mouthing off about us to her co-worker. I looked at her, puzzled, and she yelled at me "If you can't afford to go out, than stay at home!".. <br/><br/>I was almost going to laugh, but my friends were kind of drunk and a bit more vocal, so things deteriorated quickly and we left with them screaming at each other.<br/><br/>I don't know what planet that server is from, but here on earth we tip for good service. If someone is clearly lazy, impatient, rude, and just awful in general, well I'm sorry but you don't deserve a tip, let alone a job. <br/><br/>If the GM sees this review, please know that there are 5 people (new customers) that will never return to the Underground, based on that experience.

Where's Wonder Woman?. I went to the Underground with some friends Saturday night and it left something to be desired. The only time I’ve ever had good service there was when I sat at the bar, I guess the lesson being that if you’re going to be impatient for liquor you best go to the source (ah, the Australians have it so right). Fifteen minutes or so passes before our server shows up to take our drink order and disappears for another twenty minutes (I should also mention that this was during comics expo weekend and she was in a Wonder Woman get up; kind of hard to miss). She eventually comes back with our drinks and tries to run away but is finally coerced into taking our food order and another preemptive drink order.<br/><br/>A half an hour passes. We see her at one point drop some beer glasses and the bar erupts into cheers. She disappears again, leaving us to ponder whether she has chosen an appropriate costume for herself, though it seems to me she has as we spend most of the night wondering where she is. We begin to speculate on this point. She can’t have just gone off to do some blow in the back, she’d be working quicker and it really doesn’t take that long to stuff something up your nose. We come to the conclusion that she has gone out to buy an eight ball, rent a limousine, wait for said limousine and then snort entire eight ball of cocaine off the limousine floor. <br/>By this point I have bused the table, gotten myself a drink from the bar and a round of waters for the designated drivers. Part of me wants to ask the manager, who has finally come to our table with a round of beers that have been sitting so long the head has disintegrated into a film around the lip of the glass and they are the temperature of bathwater, if we should send out a search party for the waitress (I sling beers for a living too, and unless you’ve severed a finger there’s no reason to disappear from the floor for a solid hour). <br/><br/>Our food is dropped off by the manager too, and it’s pretty tasty in all fairness. I have the vegan Portobello sliders and they’re quite flavorful, though they need cheese (I realize this is something of an oxymoron). We eat quickly so we can get to a show afterward (though we’d allotted two hours of dining time) and the manager drops off our checks. It is at this point that Wonder Woman reappears, a little flushed and with her glasses slightly askew. “So, did you guys need anything else” Yeah dude, like an hour ago.

Misleading posters. Tuesday at the Underground Tap and Grill was, according to the posters in the restaurant, "Tapas Tuesday" with tapas starting for as little as $2 before 7 pm. However, that wasn't reflected in the menu which didn't have any tapas even remotely close to $2. The server, albeit a lovely person, didn't know anything about Tapas Tuesday either, and appeared to think I was slightly mad for suggesting that the posters were misleading. Other than that, the food and beer were good. But the restaurant should be more aware of the fact that it's misleading its customers by posting signs which are completely false.

Great service, good food.. Had myself a green onion cake sandwich which consisted of a an Asian flavoured pulled pork and a suey slaw between a delicious green onion cake with a spicy dipping sauce. The sandwich was delicious, the pulled pork was tangy and not overly dry or wet, the dipping sauce was hot and smokey and curiously refreshing. With the meal I enjoyed a mushroom soup with coconut cream and a pint of Garrison Hopyard and Amber's Zombie Apocalypse. The soup was passable but needed seasoning, the Hopyard was a little too hoppy for my tastes, as is the risk when ordering a beer with hop in the name, and the Zombie was delicious. Service was great and overall the food was very good. 78%

Great Service! Great Food! Great Evening!. We went for the Monday night steak special. The steak was fantastic! The all - you-can -eat -sides were fantastic and the service was amazing!!! Our server, Mark, even gave us a little mini tour of the back side of the 72 taps! We tried a nice little variety of beers, decided on a few favourites and we enjoyed every minute of our evening. We will definitely be back. Cheers to all the staff!

Awesome place. My wife and I had a blast in this place. simple food but awesome atmosphere !!

Could Be Great. I've been going to The Underground for few months now. I cant comment on the food but their beer selection is fantastic. The Zombie Apocalypse on tap is what keeps my friend and I coming back. But that's the only thing. Not once have I been able to sit and have a bar tender behind the bar for a full beer. The staff is always sitting at the tables to the side of the bar without a care for customer service at all... all while the manager sits at a table next to them.

I'm not sure how this place has a 78%? Most of the reviews I've read here are about how horrible the service is and I have to agree. Poor, poor service from the table staff - to be fair one waitress in general. Definitely the worst service I've seen ever seen - slow, rude and unprofessional in every aspect. With the ever-expanding options of places selling micro and unique import brews this place needs to learn that customer service is what will stop it from becoming obsolete.
Brent Morton
Love this place. The only negative thing I have to say about this place is that it is in an underground location that is dark and they don't have a patio. I doubt I'd feel like going here on a nice sunny summer day only due to the dark feeling.<br/>The beer selection is great! The servers actually seem to have some knowledge of the beer. The food is great! Everything I've had here has been really good.

Great selection of beer, fantastic bartender

Two visits in a week. My husband and I went here twice this week with friends. The first visit was a Thursday night (7pm). Wow to the beer selection! The food was ok. While we were there we saw an advertisement for brunch. Beer and eggs are the best. We went back for brunch on Sunday with the same friends. <br/><br/>Pros: The atmosphere is good. Even though it seemed pretty busy Thursday night, we were able to carry on a conversation without having to shout. The beer selection is amazing. I don't know why other reviewers complained about the service. While the service was a bit slower on Thursday (it was busy when we got there) it was suitable and friendly.<br/><br/>Cons: It's downtown so no beware of difficult parking, but good location if you're taking the bus or LRT. As for brunch, we were a group of 4 with only 4 other customers in there for brunch on Sunday, why weren't there more people? Advertise bunch so it doesn't get cut due to lack of demand please!

Have been a couple times: the first time was just for beer. The bartender was knowledgeable and friendly and seemed to enjoy his job, although less willing to chat than bartenders elsewhere. <br/>The second time me, my boyfriend, and another couple came for a (very) late brunch. We were told that if we wanted to order from the breakfast menu it would have to be in the next 10 minutes. I quickly chose the spinach eggs bennie, the other lady had the breakfast wrap, and the two guys got the duck poutine. Everything tasted amazing! The server wasn't fantastic though. She didn't know the names of many of the beers and she wasn't very helpful with the menus. The bartender, who brought over our beers and our next round was far more helpful and friendly.

Good beer selection, bad service. The beer selection is impressive; the service is not. I went for the first time last night with a regular, and we sat with an off-duty employee who was a friend of my friend. The server was quick, but it felt like she was always in a rush, and she did not check on us after we received our beers or when my friend got his food. I never saw her crack a smile and she always seemed like she was running somewhere. <br/><br/>I still planned to tip because, working in the service industry myself, that's what I do, but I honestly felt like she did not deserve it one cent. Even as I was paying my bill, she was taking the money in hand while off to another table and leaning back to grab the cash. She looked at me with the stony expression she had held all night and asked if I needed change. I hesitated, but said no. And I regretted it so badly because I never saw her smile once, and I felt very uncared for as a customer. I have already called this morning and told them that they have lost a potential customer; I never go back somewhere that I feel so unappreciated as a customer. A smile goes a long way, and a more pleasant server would have changed everything.
John
Would not recomend going here. Food is horrible service is even worse. Mercer pub and beer revolution in my mind are a much better choice.

All Together Awesome. Great environment, amazing food, and great staff. The gluten-free options are fantastic and leaving nothing wanting -- well, except more. Must try: Tapioca Fritters
Boris
Edmonton's best beer selection. <br/>We have been to Underground three times now and will make a point of returning soon. Without doubt the draft beer selection is the best in Edmonton which I guess doesn't say a lot but it easily kicks the competition of mkt beer and beer revolution. The only fault I have is as it is in a basement it is missing the patio ambience for those few good days edmonton has. I read several reviews critical of the service and am puzzled because that has never been the case with our visits. Each time we found the wait staff to be friendly prompt and most importantly familiar with their product. <br/>I hope Underground is here to stay because it is great.
Corina
Excellent Food and Service!. We were staying downtown and really don't know the area. Found this wonderful little gem, and am so happy we did. When we first went down the escalator we thought we were entering a night club. Found out it was a great pub with a DJ, neat touch! The beer menu is amazing and our food was incredibly tasty. Our server Cassandra was absolutely excellent. Had a fantastic night and can't wait to go back. Great for adults at any age too! Kudos!

This place is excellent ! Servers are always pleasent, and the food comes out hot and delicious. Deffinitly going to make regular visits here.

I go here weekly, and I have yet to have the same beer twice. The food never disappoints, the bartenders are always frendlu and knowledgeable.

Please do something about the service.. I really want to like this place, but the service is awful. It was a busy Friday night the first time I went in, and it took about 25 minutes to get my first beer. I guessed they were short staffed on a busy night and I was forgiving (even though there were many servers working).<br/><br/>Went back on a quiet week night, and there were only 5 or 6 small groups of patrons in the entire bar. I timed how long it took to get my beer after the server first came by - 16 minutes. I only timed the service because I noticed I am not alone in thinking they move a bit slow here. There were about 5 people serving/bartending, and they just stood around chatting after my order was made.<br/><br/>I'd like to come back here, as the beer selection is nice and the food is decent, but it's a huge waste of time. My first visit, I was there for 2 hours by the time I was able to pay and I only had 1 beer. Second visit, 2 beers and an appetizer, took 3 hours. Please fix this problem. Ordering a beer or paying by card shouldn't be a 20 minute process.
Davethesmave
Beer selection, GREAT! Food, PRETTY GOOD!! However to have an enjoyable time with those two you need to have the beer brought to you at your table as well as the food. The service here is AWFUL!! Don't come unless you have an evening to kill. Took 2 hours to get 2 beers, food, a glass of water and the bill. Generally had to wait at least 20 minutes to half an hour for anything. Had to go up to the bar to get waters for my wife and I as the waiter just wasn't around.
Peter Trembley
This place is an absolute joke. The service was so crap when we went there the other night after beer fest. These people seem more concerned with looking the part and talking to their friends then actually serving food and drinks. The beer selection is good but the service is actually terrible. Worst I've ever had. Luckily there is Beer Revolution and Mercer Tavern both close which have given me and my girlfriend much better service. When Craft opens right beside them they are gonna be screwed. They seem to think they are the only place in town with craft beer. I won't go back. Fix your service.

Worst.Service.In.Life. I have been a patron of The Underground ever since it opened it's doors and have, regrettably now, recommended it to many friends, co-workers, etc. <br/><br/>I am EXTREMELY disappointed with the service and quality of food that we "almost got to eat."<br/><br/>Our group arrived at The Underground at 11:45AM and at this time there were only two tables that had customers seated. Our group waited for 7 minutes until a waitress gave us menus and only AFTER we flagged one over. <br/><br/>We ordered our food and we left WITHOUT eating, after waiting for OVER an hour! The take-out containers, which should have been filled with hot food, tasted like day old left overs - which is surprising, considering that our waitress had told us SECONDS before that our food would be ready in 2 minutes.<br/><br/>At the hour mark, the waitress approached our table to inform us our food would arrive in 2 minutes. We explained that our lunch hour was over and that we would need to take the containers to go, which she replied with: "Really!?" Not sure how "our lunch hour is OVER and we need to take our food to go" is surprising, after not being able to have your lunch over your lunch hour.<br/><br/>To top it off, two tables who arrived AFTER us, received their food before we did.<br/><br/>I am extremely disappointed and it would have been nice to be offered something complimentary in an effort to express their regrets on the horrible service - even if it was something as simple as giving our table a bowl of peanuts to tide over our hunger, would be been appreciated. But I guess, considering the lack-luster service and sub-par quality of food, it was asking too much.
Slappy McBabyeater
The beer selection was decent... The prices are ridiculous... But that was really the best $14 hamburger (jalapeño blue cheese) I've ever had! I should also note that while the place was completely packed we had excellent service!!

Wacker Then denny's. Was a huge fan of this place till last night<br/><br/>Only two waitresses for 120 people in the bar<br/><br/>Poor waitresses were swamped I felt bad for for them <br/><br/>!!!!! Which means Bad Management !!!!!<br/>No reason to have two waitresses on Friday night<br/><br/>Saw a ton of people with no beers in their hands<br/><br/>Took 50 minutes to get a Drink for they did not even see us sitting at the First table you see when you walk in.<br/><br/>Won't be back for Their competition is opening up soon..<br/><br/>Underground You Suck !! <br/><br/>Peace

Very Disappointing. First time visiting. Went at 8 pm on a Wed night, somewhat busy. We sat and the server said he'd come back so we could decide on beers. He took his sweet time. I actually grabbed menus from another table since he neglected to bring us any, or ask if we were eating. Ordered beers, waters, and food. Our waters never came when he brought the beer and we reminded him. Our food came fairly promptly. But with no cutlery or napkins. Waited and waited and then I walked up to the bartender and got cutlery and waters from him. The bartender was apologetic at least. The waiter never acknowledged we received the waters without him bringing them to us. Overall the food was good, the beers were lackluster, and the service was horrible. This establishment is an overpriced crapshack.

Worth going Downtown for!. With Craft beer market, woodwork, tres carnales and Underground all moving in to the same area of DT, this is the best thing that could happen to our downtown. It is actually worth putting up with all the weirdo's downtown to try the beer at this place.<br/><br/>The drink specials are amazing, and the food is off the chain for a pub. Their 10$ steak monday's are equivalent to what you would get at the Keg for 40$ and with unlimited sides too! All thier specials throughout the week make this place my new favorite place.<br/><br/>The Beer selection is quite good, only improvement could be abit more American selection considering the quality of American beers that not too far away. This bar puts every other bar in the city to shame.<br/>The only thing I dislike about this place is that it is too small for the amount of people it will soon attract, so enjoy it while it's not yet packed to the brim!

Great beer, good food. Went to Underground on the 16th for dinner and some beer on a recommendation from a friend. With 70 beer on tap (most craft beer!) and another 30 or so bottles, it is definitely the most impressive beer selection I've found in Edmonton. <br/><br/>I started with the Chocolate Stout (Brooklyn). This was full of flavor. Couldn't tell (by taste) that it was a 10%. The chocolate wasn't too punchy, and there was a hint of coffee in there as well. Definitely recommend. My friend had the 1516. A nice logger, not too hoppy on the finish.<br/><br/>After getting beer, it took us a while to wave down our server. Wasn't too busy, but she seemed a little spacy.<br/><br/>We had some hot wings to start. They had good flavor, and came with some good veg, however I certainly wouldn't call them hot wings. medium at best. As I said though, they had good flavor.<br/><br/>For a main, I had the Pork Medallions with Apple Ale sauce. The medallions were a little over cooked and dry. The sauce, however, was wonderful. It was a perfect companion for the pork, and the croquette potato was very well done (basically, a lightly breaded and then fried mash). It was cooked nicely, though could have used a little extra flavor (some onion, or garlic, maybe?). Unfortunately they gave me asparagus instead of the Belgium Endive. I didn't make a stink about it as I was just enjoying a relaxing dinner with a friend, but they didn't even offer to explain why.<br/><br/>My friend had the Carbonara. This was LOADED with bacon. The pasta was cooked nicely, and the sauce wasn't too heavy. <br/><br/>I'll definitely go back. The beer selection is too good to stay away from, and I'm hoping to see if they can provide the Endive next time.

Excellent Duck. Loved the ambiance and the fact that you can have an actual conversation because there is no loud music. <br/><br/>The food was fantastic. We had the duck and a chicken sandwich and yam fries. Would definitely have the duck again!<br/><br/>Our server was Denise and she was very knowledgeable and friendly. <br/><br/>The beer selection was of course excellent!

Exceptional pub. I was very impressed with the Underground. I've never seen a selection of beers on tap to match it, the server's are outstanding and have more knowledge and enthusiasm about craft beers than I've encountered before. The surprize for me was how creative and good the food is. The appetizers are to die for.<br/>My new favorite pub!

Great Ambiance!. Love this place! Good vibe, good crowd, very comfy place.

I'm gonna call this a gastropub after my duck confit poutine :o. I liked the beer selection. I enjoyed the underground secluded classy feel to it. I found my $10 steak deal to be wicked, but I also found the steak to be too tough and I'd rather spend $12 for wings instead. Can't really complain at $10 really but I just thought you guys should know if deals or getting full is not first and foremost on your night dining out.<br/><br/>I'm anxious to try other food offered at this place. I want to come back for $5 beer and $5 wings Wednesdays. I found Celso, the manager, to be really nice. I think I spelled his name right... <br/><br/>I like the atmosphere a lot. It doesn't feel super packed and crowded like The Pint. It feels like a good place for you and your buddy to have some soulful or man-to-man talk, to just catch up on old times, etc. The excellent service combined with the atmosphere is bound to leave you feeling welcome.

Beer nerd heaven. I love this place for the excellent service, the fact that the staff are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about craft beer, as well as making us feel very welcome.

A Great Place to Sample Craft Brews. Our server knew her stuff and was very helpful in setting up a choice of their rotational flights that ensured the light and dark beer lovers among our group were satisfied. Beer chicken and the burger are well executed offerings. Stick to those simple options and some rotational flights and you will leave very satisfied.

Great place. I love it here for the simple reason... they serve Fruli, I love that beer, and they are always quick to give you a sample of other great beers. Every was great once you got them going...at first it seemed no waitress knew if we were in their section or not, they appeared lazy, to busy dancing at the bar and chatting to care about two females at a table. But the food was hot and delish, I just think some better training for the servers, they work on Jasper ave...more class ladies.<br/><br/>Good think the manager was so polite to take our initial order.

Awesome Place to Chill. Went here after Winefest at Shaw.<br/>Glad we did...all I have to say is "Wow!" Loved the many different selections of beer on tap, didn't really get to try much, as I was still loaded with wine, but will be back to try some more.<br/>I also ordered the mini sliders and they didn't disappoint.<br/>Service was good and prompt.

Had an AMAZING night! Chris, our server, was so knowledgable about all the beers. I had the sirloin which was perfectly cooked as was the rest of my company's food. We all had at least a few different kinds of beers to try. We had brought first timers with us that were beyond impressed with the experience. Chris came to our tables with samples in hand to start off our night. We will definitely be back on a Thursday night. So refreshing to have amazing service for an establishment that's only been open for only 3 months! Keep up the great work!

I've now been down to the Underground twice. In a nut-shell, I'm hooked. The selection is great, and the curly haired bartender was very knowledgeable. I am a craft brewer of beer and lover of good beer, so this was a much needed venue in the city. I go for the beer, but of course the food is great too. My only objection to this fine establishment is the decor. Blank grey walls are not inviting. I don't spend hours and hours there because frankly, it's kind of stark. It's not inviting. There's no atmosphere to speak of, and the little bit of "art" was some street style graffiti-esque paint on one wall. Until they figure out how to decorate, I'll tolerate it for the beer... but I won't be happy about it!

Went round for a dram, proper draught proper staff. Bloke behind the counter was ace, answered all my questions and gave many samples until I found something I enjoyed! <br/><br/>Will be back to try the food shortly!

Service was great, food was good and the beer selection was unreal. If we were curious about a particular beer our server was more than willing to bring us samples so it could help us decide. The rotating list had a very wide selection above and beyond what they have on their standard taps. <br/><br/>My only criticism would be that the decor is somewhat lacking, and that the rotating tap menu did not include any prices, although most of the pints were about $9

Food was really good, service was pleasant. It's a hanging out at home kinda feel, comfortable and warming had a great experience when I came in with friends. Would definitely return.

Great beer! We both love our beers! The food was great with a good environment. Only problem....... To many beers to choose fr

This place is great. Food is amazing. Beer selection is outstanding. (Specially made champaign craft beer? Yes please!) I would almost say to many attentive servers! Best thing on the menue: green onion cake sandwich. Amazing. <br/>Love the willing testers if your unsure on what pint to get.

All right.... I went with a group of coworkers and we went for lunch. For their burgers and sandwiches, you have a choice of side - either fries, salad or soup of the day. We asked the waitress what the soup of the day was and she said it was "seafood chowder". Our orders came in and we get soup that's tomato-based and watery. I asked a different waitress to confirm what the soup of the day was and she says it "seafood bisque". There were at least 3 people who heard the first waitress say that it was "seafood chowder". Needless to say a lot of us were very disappointed. The rest of the service wasn't great either. We had to ask for water glasses to be refilled multiple times. Other than that, I ordered the Jalapeno Blue Cheese burger which was good.

Needs tune-up. I'm a beer lover and I'm glad to see a pub with a large amount of beer on tap. We gave it a try for the first time and things weren't all pretty but we will be going back in a few months I'm sure to see if things got better.<br/><br/>Service turned out to be the biggest turn off. We were first attended by a waitress (which turned out to be the manager to our surprise as honestly she seemed out of her zone) but we weren't ready to order just yet. Another waitress stopped by and we placed our drink order with her. Then the original waitress(manager) came back to see if we were ready to order. We placed our food order with one of the two and the manager is the one who brought us the food. Unfortunately neither of them came back to check on us after the food was dropped off. Well it turned out that we needed more condiments and we also wanted water. We had to fetch the waitress(by then we had eaten most of the food) and we clarified who was supposed to attend our table. Clearly the manager had moved on to other things and the other waitress assumed the manager was attending us. Fairly amateur in my opinion. <br/><br/>Oh and somehow everyone else seemed to have coasters for their pints but us....<br/><br/>Food wise I had the Classic burger and the mushroom & cheese gave it excellent flavor. The fries were seasoned and crispy. Both were served really warm and it somewhat made up for the lack of service. <br/><br/>My partner had the Veggie burger and it was fine but the patty is either from Costco or they copied their recipe. That means that her burger tasted pretty much like what we cook at home. A bit disappointing for the vegetarian. <br/><br/>Let's hope the service gets tuned-up because I really want to like it but I can't at this moment.

I visited this restaurant on a Friday night with a couple of friends. We thought it would be a cool new hot spot in the city to try some craft brews. It started out alright as the service was timely but after 20 minutes in we started to notice some odd occurrences. Our waitress went MIA, we scoured the pub (which isn't very big) and couldn't find her anywhere. We hadn't even gotten our drinks! So we waited another ten minutes and got another waitress to help us out. This waitress came back to our table and informed us our choices had been sold out. So we ordered different types and again she came back because still some of our parties choices were sold out. Frustrated, we ordered for the third time. I'm sorry but at this point it had me wondering if this new pub was up to the standards of downtown Edmonton. We waited another 50 minutes to receive our food and guess who brings it out? Our original waitress. If that wasn't bad enough the entire pub was low on energy and morale. It wasn't worth the wait and there are better bars and restaurants to get craft beer in Edmonton.

Attitude Adjustment Req'd. Pretty good beer selection, and in fact probably the best in the city. They were out of many of them though which significantly narrowed what we could choose from. Waitress didn't know lots about the different beers but maybe that will come with time. She was very busy flirting with a particular table but otherwise did a good job being attentive to our table. Upon closing time some guy (not sure if it was a doorman or a manager, but no doubt a knob) told us literally to "get out" in a rude tone. Yikes. I guess my money isn't welcome there.<br/><br/>Oh, and although it's a beer place it certainly didn't need to smell like a bottle depot at the front entrance. They gotta air that joint out.

We go for the great beer selection. The food is good too.

The beer selection is a welcome addition to downtown Edmonton and the sandwich I ordered, apple chicken, was decent but the decor is lacking. It feels like you're just sitting in your own or a friend's basement. Additionally, lunch service was poor. It took 2 hours for lunch for 4 and there were only 3 other tables occupied. Would have been a disaster if it was actually busy.

Taste of Edmonton: I'm not generally a slider kind of person. I'd much rather eat a big burger or something else. With that in mind, this bison slider with gorgonzola was pretty good, but not something that I'd normally spend my money on. I admit that the blue cheese was a nice touch--I'm a sucker for a nice blue cheese. Nothing about this dish particularly amazed me, but it was solid pub food. I can appreciate that.

Beer lover? I for one am not, but even hearing that an establishment in Edmonton has 72 beers on tap, I was definitely curious. Following an escalator ride below ground, you’ll find yourself at The Underground Tap & Grill.
