Wonderful place and staffs. Really good food. A great opportunity at Jasper Avenue.
would like to thank Pablo. My auntys last wishes are to have their pizza and he covered it !!! God bless him and all of the staff who work there
Amazing service, our wait staff were courteous and attentive and fun to chat with from the minute we arrived for a late lunch to the minute we left and had to return because we forgot our take out. They helped make my boyfriend's birthday all the more enjoyable.
Thank you!
I love the staff, the food and the atmosphere.
Delicious, quick food, wonderful setting, and the best staff at any restaurant I've been to. Sometimes it's hard to get a seat but one always pops up eventually, and it's totally worth it. :)
Pablo you are amazing you filled my sister's last wishes...God Bless your kindness
Got the Prawn Pesto Pizza. It was great. Flavours and everything, too large, so ate if for lunch the next day. Great, great pizza. WAY BETTER than Boston Pizza. Glad I found this place. Service was great too,
Skipped the dishes tonight to order up some Famoso. Ordered two dishes, the Caprese Salad and the Primavera Pasta. They both were delicious.
I’ve heard much about this place, so I stopped in for dinner. Was greeted with friendly smiles by all the staff.
The kitchen is open, so you could watch your pizza being made and talk with the skilled chefs. They serve pizzas in the Neapolitan style; thin crusts baked in a fire oven. Not those type of pizzas that make you feel like you just ate a loaf of bread here!
I ordered one of their special creations called “Korean BBQ Beef”. Totally enjoyed it. A bit of sweet, a bit of heat!
I’d recommend that you give this place a try also!
Lunch at Famosa. Fast and friendly service from the staff today. Ordered a Favorite dish for my lunch the appetizer tray. Salad is arugula and roasted peppers, mozzarella is a soft bocaccio served with a garlic pesto, sopasetta and prosciutto ( 3 small half slices of each) and ajar of rosemary olives. All served with warm flat bread.
Was in the area visiting my uncles restaurant with a few friends during the week and we decided to go for lunch afterwards. I have not been to a Famoso in a very long time but a friend wanted pizza so we ended up here as it was near by. I always enjoyed famoso pizza as it was really good before Blaze Pizza and LOVEPIZZA came along. I think they are a bit over priced compared to the 2 pizza place I just mentioned. None the less, it was some good pizza that my friend and I ate. Service was good, atmosphere good, and staff was friendly.
Wide variety of delicious pizzas, they also have daily specials that are always great. The salads and tomato bisque are very nice as well. If you're looking for pizza, famoso is for you (whether you like a more classic cheese pizza, or bold and interesting new flavour combinations). However, I wouldn't recommend the lattes, as the foam isn't consistent with how latte foam should normally be, and I wouldn't recommend the sandwiches. Everything else is beyond great
I had never eaten at any of the Famoso Neapolitan locations in this city before, and I was curious, specifically after a friend told me that they made the margherita pizza, which is an original Italian version of the well-known staple. I decided to order from them through SkipTheDishes.ca, and along with the margherita pizza I ordered the prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella balls and their tiramisu. The pizza turned out to be good if not great, though to be a bit fair, I deliberately ordered the most basic version because I had never tried this type of pizza before. I'm willing to try it again, but with more toppings like the mushrooms and a meat of some kind (likely sausage). The mozzarella balls, however, were just fricking awesome, soft balls of the cheese wrapped in salty prosciutto and cooked in a rich tomato-based sauce packed full of flavor. I could seriously have just drunk that sauce, it was so good. The tiramisu was also very good as a way to end the meal, though I would not rate it above that which can be had at Cafe Amore which is my go-to Italian cuisine restaurant. All in all, it was pretty good food that didn't make me regret the amount of money I spent, especially those mozza balls. I would definitely eat from this restaurant again.
We got primavera and funghi pizzas and marinated olives. They were all so tasty and delicious. The service was kinda slow. But the staff were nice and very helpful about the menu. We loved our food.
Not only is the pizza delicious, but you must try their desserts! I highly recommend the Nutella pizza & Nutella Mocha. I would honestly go their just for dessert. We have been going to famoso for a few years, and will continue!
This is one of my favorite pizza places in Edmonton. Being close to home, I frequent Famoso quite often and always enjoy their meatballs. I most recently tried their Spicy Thai pizza and found it very enjoyable. Take out is a good option as well since they are extremely efficient and they do not keep you waiting too long. The service is great as well and staff is always attentive and warm.
First Famoso I had the pleasure of checking out.
Live it!
Not pizza that lends itself well to being reheated...but there won't be any left!
April 15, 2015 By baconhound Leave a Comment Of all the chain restaurants that have started in Edmonton over the years, Famoso is one of the few I still find myself going to on a regular basis. Of course it helps that the original location is just a short walk from my home, allowing me an easy alternative to slaving away over the stove on those occasions I’d just rather watch Netflix than cook. Like with most chains, I did find the quality and attention to detail started to decline a bit when new locations started popping up, but Famoso still cranks out a pretty good pizza on the regular. I decided on Piccolino Bistro as the opponent this week, as both spots have some pizzas that are pretty traditional, but a few out-of-the-box ones too. Besides, I hadn’t been to Piccolino’s in a long time, so this was as good an excuse as any to see what’s up at this neighbourhood Italian joint. Famoso Pizzeria - 11750 Jasper Ave I’ve tried a couple of the other locations, but the original Jasper avenue location still has them all beat for consistency in my books. It always smells great in there, and the atmosphere is warm and comfortable. The pizza menu is pretty extensive, with lots to choose from, but I decided on the Cavoletti, which has oven roasted brussels sprouts, proscuitto, gorgonzola, dates, walnuts, and honey. The Crust The Famoso crust is a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde thing for me- on one hand I love the signature chewiness on the cornicone that defines Famoso pizzas for me but, on the other hand, the total lack of crispiness is a real downer. I don’t think I’ve ever had a Famoso pizza I thought was crispy enough, and the general floppiness of each slice kind of frustrates me as well. Nevertheless, few things make me happier than dipping that chewy crust in a side of tzatziki after inhaling the cheesy interior. There’s more good than bad going on here, so I’d call it a win. Famoso undercrust
Good Pizza. Overall very good, pizza tasted great and the service was friendly.
Great. Pizza was a bit too saucy, but overall the gelato and hummus was delish !
Will be visiting again soon :)
San Andreas Pizza. Excellent flavour
Famoso has awesome management, great staff (very friendly & professional) & never have to wait long to receive an exquisite meal :)
Go-to Comfort. There's a pile of great restaurants in Edmonton that I should probably branch out to but my husband and I just keep going to Famoso. Please excuse my pretension but I've eaten neapolitan-style pizza at the hotspots in Italy and NYC and Famoso remains my favourite.
We walk to the Jasper Ave location and it's consistently great. Friendly, quick service. We often start with a bowl of olives, two pizzas for dinner (with leftovers for the next day) and end with that luscious gelato.
Great pizza. Closest tasting pizza to what i had in Italy, I like the Vesuvio pizza pictured below
I love the dessert!!!!
pizza is good.
Amazing! I love this place! I walked here to pick up a late night snack fort prego wife. It's our fourth and she's 8 months pregnant. This time she's all about the Nutella. After some surfing she found this Nutella dessert offered by the restaurant and sent me on a mission to bring one home. I walked the 10 blocks, thinking some fresh summer air would be nice, and arrived a bit flustered I admit. I was greeted by a super friendly Kaitlyn who comped the dessert! This just doesn't happen anymore! She also informed me that they have a Nutella gelato too. Needless to say this is our new favourite spot. Thank you! If its a girl...I'm thinking the name Kaitlyn has a nice ring to it...
Great margerita pizza and Napoli salad
Great food, reasonable price. I have been to Famoso a number of times in at least four different locations. This is the original location and the one I have visited most often. I have never had a problem with the service here and the food is always fresh and tasty. The thin style crust is chewy with delicious blackened crispy bits and is the best thin crust I have tried. My favorite pizza is the prosciutto arugula; but if I had to recommend one dish to try here it would be the prosciutto wrapped mozza balls. To anyone who has not yet tried it I highly recommend Famoso!
Favorite pizza place in edmonton. Love the pizza, salad is delicious, and absolutely looove their nutella pizza with banana and whipping cream! that goes to say alot from someone who don't even like nutella!
Never thought I would like it but damn its good stuff!!
Happy!. I love this place. Pizza's are delicious.
Tastes great. It's a little small inside but the pizza is grrrrreat!
LOVE!!! So fresh tasting. If you like super crispy, it might not be your cup of tea, but I am obsessed. I hate lettuce, but even I love the famoso salad. Yum, guys! And the staff ate so friendly and helpful. Great service.
Yum yum. Delicious, high quality ingredients! Love the sicilian, tried the cavoletti today and it was great as well (sweet and savoury). I've eaten at both this location and the Whyte ave one, the chefs took more care making it at the Jasper location than the at Whyte though.
We went to famoso on a double date, ordered limoncello limonata margaritas (I definitely reccomend), and I realized I'd left my ID at home. Our server brought me a free limonata, and my boyfriend offered to drive home and get it (only five minutes). He left as our food was coming out, and the manager evidently felt bad, and brought him a free fresh pizza when he returned. Clearly, excellent service, the margarita pizzas and salads were delicious as always, and the location is prime. Famoso on jasper remains a favourite of ours.
Worth the Hype!. The pizza's here are great! Not greasy, a very unique mix of pizza's, and friendly service. I will definitly come here many many times
Different than the usual pizza experience. I stopped at Famoso (downtown) at lunch for the first time just to see how good this place is. The atmosphere was a little noisy and you have to get used to the service here. You are to sit down, look at your menu, decide what you want and then go up to the front to order and add to your tab. I started with roasted pitted Kalamata olives which were quite good, warm and spicy. The feta also avoided being too salty which is typical of most restaurant feta. I had the Vesuvio pizza which includes a spicy sopressata salami, cracked chili pepper, and I added the choice of roasted mushrooms. For a side I had the half size Napoli salad which was delicious. The pizzas here are made on a tasty pita style bread but much less dry than typical pita bread. You have to fold the pizza if you want to prevent the toppings from sliding off. The other option is to use your knife and fork. I washed it down with San Pellegrino and finished it off with low fat Key lime pie ice cream. You can eat an appetizer, pizza, and dessert for $30 and you come away without feeling bloated or broke. 3/4 stars.
Famoso is delicious. If you're into thin crust pizza with a lot of flavour from the toppings, you'll love famoso. Also the famoso salad is to die for, it's awesome! Basically, it's cray.
Pizza with a difference. This is how a non-greasy traditional pizza should be! Thin (almost pita-like) crust, high-quality ingredients used sparingly, all made fresh and fast right before your eyes. A nice looking room with friendly servers, good pizza and awesome desserts (gelato, sorbetto and Nutella pizza sticks), now that's a good neighbourhood pizzeria.
Loved it!. Good food, great service. Recommend. The only thing they could do better is a bit of a thicker crust, toppings tend to fall off if you do not fold the pizza. But the flavor blended beautifully, it was some of the best tasting pizza I have had in years!
The food is consistently good (the gorgonzola walnut salad is amazing as an appetizer) and I am always happy with the attitude of the management team...the staff however have a very high turnover and for that reason I am asked each and every time I come to the restaurant if I have been there before? Why this is, I know and further don't understand. When the first location on Jasper avenue opened, the venue was entirely self serve. This required an explanation to new patrons. It's changed however, to become a sort of confusing ordeal where you order up front and then the waitresses deliver your meal and drinks. As mentioned in another review, the waitresses end up being at your table too often and most of them have an irritating demeanor. I think the atmosphere would be improved tenfold if they took orders in a traditional manner.
Divine pizza heaven! Traditional brick oven pizza with the perfect combination of flavors. I really like the dessert pizza too!
My favourite location!. My friend and I dine here quite frequently and it is always a good experience. Usually we eat here on weekends, so it is expected there will be a wait. The most recent time, the friendly guy taking down names at the door offered to take down our phone number so we could go next door and have a drink while we wait. I thought this was very nice, especially since there is little space to wait in the restaurant. Our wait time was exactly what the guy had anticipated. This time around I ordered the full size caesar salad, an order of flatbread, and the margarita pizza, all to share amongst me and my friend. I recommend both the salad and the pizza for anyone trying out Famoso for their first time. This was just enough food for the two of us and we left very satisfied! As usual, the servers were very friendly and quickly got us anything we needed. Will be back soon!
Great food, great service, always a great time. Best Pizza in town.
This is authentic pizza!. I have been to Naples and the Campania area where the birthplace of pizza is. We ate our weight in pizza for 15 days... from Rome to Naples to Capri to Positano. I can genuinely say that these guys work hard to ensure they have an authentic Neopolitan Pizzeria. The flour is flown in from Italy, and you can tell. The dough is just different on Neopolitan pizza. The tomatoes are tart and sweet, San Marzano tomatoes at their finest, even if they are canned. The buffalo mozzarella is creamy and perfectly done. My only complaint is that they put shaved parmesan on the top of the pizza. That isn't authentic, and I always order my Margherita pizza without the parmesan. I'm not loving how you have to go to the counter and order, but it is a small sacrifice when you are craving the authentic flavours of Italy. Pizza is incredible here! Great job emulating pizza from the Naples area!
Love this place. The Margherita...mmmm. Can't wait until the Spruce Grove location opens.
Yes the food is truly great but the service is a pain in the a**. There is lots of friendly staff so it is a pain to have to go stand in line to order?? For this reason only, we will likely not go back. I did cafeteria's in high school.
Good service and really accommodating. We didn't have a reservation for my birthday and they made a large table for us. Go early/later to rush times to avoid gigantic lineups though. Also try the prosciutto arugula pizza. It's the best. :)
Best pizza in town! (Well, maybe tied for first). Famoso's pizzas are delicious, fast, fresh and worth a trip! I only say tied for first because Rosebowl's pizzas are pretty dang good too --- except they take 45 minutes to get to you, whereas Famoso's pizzas come in 90 SECONDS. So Famoso shall get my vote for best pizza in town by a hair. The nutella hot chocolate doesn't taste nutella-ish enough, and the gelato is only okay (there's better gelato elsewhere) but the pizzas are what you should come for.
Food YES! Services WEIRD!. I love it here. Its one of my favourite places but sometimes the service is weird. 8 visits to my table to see how I am doing is over-kill and disruptive to my conversations.
DAM GOOD PIZZA!. It is obvious it is made in a stone oven! WOW! Its a great pizza! Then its gone so fast! Worth the price! Worth the experience! We ordered the Sweet Roasted Chicken and I already cant wait to go back for it! Normally I go for the regular classic choices but this is a ideal twist! Great staff! They let me sample the GELATOS! How sweet! Its like they could read my mind! Its what everyone is talking about! Also.... eat in! Pick-up is handy but it seems to taste better when you are there!
Fabulous!. I have never been there before, but I think I found my new favorite place! My husband and I had the Kalamata olives for a starter, and the procuito wrapped mozzarella balls in tomato sauce. Both were unique and delicious! We then had a pizza each, (prepared the real Italian way with ultra thin crust) both about 11 inches. Both pizzas were amazing, and we could only make it through half a pizza each. We each had a peach Italian soda with vodka, which was delicious! For desert we had the best Gelato I have ever tasted.
The decor was modern and relaxing, and the music lovely. The staff were friendly, helpful, and swift. I completely enjoyed my experience at Famoso, and will definitely be returning soon!
Always delicious. Famoso is one of the few places where every time I eat there, I'm always surprised by how good it is. And their dessert pizzas can't be beat.
Best Pizza Ever only at this location. I dont know why but the christies corner location sucks. The downtown one has the best pizza and best deserts. Yum im getting hungry thinking of it im going there tommorrow.
Amazing Pizza!!!. Theres always a line up when I go here for dinner and its well worth it! The thin crust is baked perfectly. The ingredients are all fresh and amazing! Whats great is that unlike every other pizza place, they have different types of toppings they put on thier pizza. Everything from Arugula, prosciutto, basil, avocado, roasted zucchini and much more! Its definitely a nice spin with an environment that matches the style.
Service was great! Pizzas are creative fresh fun and tasty. New favorit pizza place in town
Great Authentic Taste. If you're a huge fan of american-style pizza, then order in some Panago's. However if you want to try some authentic, hand-tossed sicilian-style pizza, then you can't beat Famoso. The ingredients are so fresh, and the combinations they put together to make the menu of pizzas is amazing.
My only issue is that the pizza's are one size only, and it's a little small. When coming with my friends, we have to order approximately one pizza per person and share, because each person could eat a whole pizza without difficulty.
It's great to see an Edmonton-based franchise growing so quickly in popularity! Here's hoping we see Famoso grow even bigger and better!
I ate here last night with some friends. The food was delicious. I had a pizza with smoked salmon, capers, onions, and dill sauce which was absolutely amazing. For dessert I had the mini banana nutella calzone. So good! My only issue with my experience was the service. Their whole "order at the counter" thing is odd. There were plenty of staffers around refilling water etc, so I don't understand why they don't just take our orders. That was a minor issue though. Our "helper" for lack of a better word, wasn't great. Our water wasn't really refilled and we felt like she was trying to push us out the door in spite of the fact that we were eating a $100 dollar meal. When we asked for anything (side plate, extra fork) it seemed like a huge chore. So all in all I would go back but probably just for takeout so I could mostly avoid the pretty terrible service.
Amazing. Seriously stop whatever you're doing right now and go try thier San Andreas pizza. Incredible.
There is No other pizza..... This is hands down the best pizza in Edmonton, and scored pretty high rankings overall in Canada. I dont think I will ever eat any other pizza....and I can't wait to go back. A must try!!
Vegans rejoice!. I emailed this location about a month ago asking them to get rid of the veganrella "cheese" and switch over to Daiya, the manager emailed me back on the same day advising me that they were working on it. Sometimes managers say these things and then take years to go through with it, but low & behold it only took them a month! Their pizza is so amazing and I didn;t think it could get any better, but it has! The Daiya is sprinkled on top and ACTUALLY tastes like real cheese. I will definitely be coming here whenever I am craving some pizza as nothing I could make at home would compare to this. My carnivorous friends all love their special pizzas and always order dessert. The tiramisu is amazing and the banana nutella dessert pizza is also fantastic(so I have heard). Definitely check this place out, but if you are vegan make it a mission to come here!
Great pizza!. I love the pizza and now they have much more at their new locations.
The desserts and coffee are Italian and that makes for the best dessert experience. Priced right.
Soooooooo good!!!!! Very impressed. Food was so yummy, service was good, prices were budget-friendly. Love the atmosphere too - upbeat, trendy, and fun.
Reliably tasty, affordable, and pleasant.
I love it here: love, love, love, love, love it! Everytime I come here with friends we have the best experience and leave full and happy. I will never be able to look at another pizza slice the same, the amazing pizza served at Famoso has ruined regular Joe pizza for me ;) (a ruin I welcome).
LOVE IT. Great pizza every time, with fresh toppings and light crust.... mmmmmm
A fabulous casual dining experience - great for lunch, a date, or a gathering of friends. Their lunch special is quick and delicious. They have some great flavor combinations that I wouldn't have thought to try at home. One of my favourites by far!
Great pizza. I love famosos, delicious pizzas not drowning in grease and full of great toppings. Delicious tiramisus as well. Always a reliable place for a quick bite.
First time here but will nor be the last time. If this is Italy I am going! The pizza was phenomenal and the dessert was beyond expectations. I will be back again and again and again and...
Can't go wrong. I'm glad Famoso's restaurants have extended to Calgary. I've always enjoyed my meals there, so coming up to Edmonton I wanted to see how their pizza was done in it's city of origin.
I wasn't disappointed in the least. Some great, unique flavours with the smoked salmon pizza (delicious capers enhancing the taste). There's a wide selection of fire roasted pizzas on Famoso's menu at any given time. Something for every palate, from simple features to gourmet creations.
For a Saturday evening visit, the location was packed, so we had to get a few to take out. If you visit, try to stay in. The pizza is best fresh. Giving them a few minutes to cool on the way home seems to make them a bit soggy.
If you like thin crust pizzas, Famoso is a tried and true bet.
A well needed break from the "pizza" we know. Famoso is not pizza73, they are not dominos, they are not pizza hut. They are true italian pizza at its finest. Yes, they do not have as many ingredients as the aforementioned places, but it is a good amount, the way a pizza is suppose to be made. Great thin crust and innovative ideas for pizza. If you want an unhealthy dose of grease and high quantity low quality toppings, stick with the traditional take aways. If you want a refined tasting pizza with just the right high quality ingredients (imported from italy i might add) sans grease than famoso is your place!
Mmmm. My favourite pizza.
Why do we make such shit pizza every where else in Edmonton?
Best pizza in town. No lies just try it, and love their tiramisu!
Mmmm. We went to this place when it first opened up and really enjoyed it. Wish they had service as opposed to self service though. Excellent pizza. Many a good times here.
Fantastic!. Eaten here five times and had a great experience each time! Good service, no attitude and great food. Great place to have a casual dinner with another couple or an excellent choice before a concert or a show!
I thought that this place nailed neopolitam pizza right on the head. The real star is their 900 degree oven! Some Italian purists would still think that is not hot enough, but any place that can bake a pizza on 90 seconds is ok with me. If you like spicy, try the Vesuvius.
Fantastic thin crust pizzas and great salads. Highly recommended!
