I love this place but have been trying over and over again to call and order take-out and for months now, I can never get an answer. New phone number? Closed? No phone? Help, please.
Wow! This place is simply the best! We stuffed ourselves silly with stuffed chicken wings, spicy Thai wings, satay chicken kebabs, prawn, pineapple & taro root spring rolls, phad Thai, duck & lychee curry, matsuman curry & coconut rice. We enjoyed every bite. The serving sizes are generous so now we have dinner for tomorrow too. We will be back - soon!

Had dinner here a few days ago with family. Food was great. Service was quiet but efficient. Ordered three dishes: two chicken dishes with rice and Pad Thai (for the kid). All three were very tasty. The chicken dishes were great. The dishes tasted different from how they taste at other restaurants (definitely not worse, just different). This might be because it's a Thai/Laotian place. We enjoyed the new tastes. Kid scarfed down the Pad Thai, which they made slightly milder for him (upon our request). Very happy with this restaurant, hope to go again soon.
I have to give credit where credit is due. The four people in our party absolutely loved the food. We ordered 6 different dishes. All were wonderfully flavoured and very interesting. Highly recommended. Just be aware that this establishment in CASH only.

Tom Yum, Spring Rolls, Yellow Curry with Chicken and tofu, and Shrimp Pad Thai
My fave thai place was closed because somebody was getting married in there. So tried somewhere new and glad I did. Boualouang was dope. #SoupSeason continued with this bowl of tom yum which was super good. Had that good balance of sour flavor and had tons of mushrooms. It’s offered in 2 sizes and this bowl was only 6 bucks, great value. Spring rolls here were pretty average, they give you a lot though so that’s a plus. The yellow curry paired with chicken and tofu was excellent. I had my curry with extra spice cause sweating from your forehead when you eat is the move. So spice. Shrimp pad thai was a peanut lover dish. Thing was covered in deez nutz. It tasted pretty good as well. Lots of shrimp and good flavor.
Located in Chinatown, this place is really good. Service was pretty fast and they refilled our water pretty fast. Amazing. Now if only it were open late night like it’s next door neighbor, Sai Woo, then it’d be great. Definitely coming back just for that tom yum.

I keep coming here every time for some bombbbbbb Thai food. The dishes I order every single time are the tom yum pho and red curry. The tom yum pho is really good, good levels of sour and spicy. The red curry is another favourite of mine; the sauce, the bamboo shoots, I love it. One time I tried the pad thai and I didn't really like it as I found it a little too sweet. Prices are justifiable by the portions as they are big. The service is really good here and they're so friendly. When I used to come here a couple of years ago it was the owner that always served me. Recently I believe they hired some younger workers so they've been serving me since - not as good of a service as the owner but it's ok. In the past, the owner would give me free thai iced tea and I really loved that gesture! Not to mention the thai iced tea is really good so it's a must to order. I also love their mango sticky rice!
I'm not an expert on Thai food but I've tried a few Thai restaurants here in Edmonton and this place tastes the most authentic and the BEST in my opinion.
Venue - Clean, elegant and comfortable. Smaller venue and given their favourable reputation, it fills up quick.
Staff - Friendly and attentive. Even had a chance to speak with one of the owners, who was very friendly. I could also tell she's passionate about her restaurant and hard working. A reminder how important it is to support local mom and pop businesses like this.
Food - Excellent food! A group of us ladies dined here together last weekend. Being it was the first time for each all of us, we decided to order a collection of dishes to share. The consensus amongst our group was "Wow, the food here is faaantastic!". Fresh ingredients and authentic Laos & Thai cuisine. Out of everything we tried, the winners were (drum roll please)... The Tom Yum Pho, Chicken Pad Thai, Phanaeng Curry Dish and the Yaw-Dip Spring rolls! And no, we could not narrow down the favourites list more - They were all so equally amazing!
Best Thai food I ever had, service was OK but food was really great and seemed authentic I'm not a Thai food specialist but it tasted very good to me, got the pad Thai and the green curry chicken really great!
This place did not disappoint, my wife and I went for lunch and ordered an appetizer and 2 entrees. We ordered salad rolls, pad thai and red curry pork served with vegetables and steamed rice. The food took a long time to come to the table, but it was worth the wait. Everything we ordered was so flavourful and fresh. The restaurant has off hours, while we were there along with 3 other tables the waiter locked the door and placed a hand written not saying we are closed and will open a 5pm. Call before you go. Great food worth the price. The portions will are large. Give this place a try.
I love their pad Thai and green curry with coconut rice, huge portions for the price compared to other Thai places but it's unfortunate how often their hours change, they randomly post hand written notes saying not open today or not opening until 4. As I'm often in the area during lunch I haven't been able to dine there as frequently as I would like. Service is generally slow and their menus have red sharpie crossing items out or changing existing ones.
I've always wanted to try this place and it did not disappoint me whatever. Food here is delicious and I wish I can use a better word than that to describe it. Pretty much every dish my friend and I ordered was spicy but not overwhelming to the point where our nose was watering (we both enjoy spicy food so it depends). The curry was amazing with the rice and the lychee was more than a nice addition. Now let's talk about the mama noodles. I grew up eating this instant noodle and seeing it on the menu somehow made me curious. It had the taste that I am familiar with but the dressing/sauce, veggie, and meat made it rediculously tasty. Food is a bit on the pricier side but I will come back without a doubt.
I really liked this restaurant! There wasn't anything I ordered that I didn't enjoy. My red curry was so spicy and fresh, almost too spicy! I asked for the dish to be more spicy than normal and they delivered! The interior of the restaurant is very nice and I thought the plates were cute. The one thing that really bothered me was how cold it was in the restaurant! I noticed that all the customers kept their jackets on. Despite this, the food is excellent and I will come back if I'm in Edmonton again.
The food was absolutely amazing, so much flavour.... The yum was my favourite dish. However every other dish was just as great. My issue was not with the food, but how long it took to get our first dish. 45 minutes (or more) later we finally got a waitress to tell us the food was coming soon. The restaurant was not busy so I am confused as to why it took sooooooo long. Not impressive....
Much like everyone else has said, the food is amazing, a tad over priced. But the service is much lacking. I know a small place you don't want alot of servers on, I get that but at least have one good one!

Competition makes better Restaurants.. Short review...I think competition makes better restaurants, and this is a good example. There are many good restaurants within a few blocks of Boualouang. 4 of us went for lunch and everything that came out was absolutely amazing, delicious, fast, and huge portions. You have to eat here. Just close your eyes and point at something on the menu, you won't be disappointed.
Most Excellent!. We have experienced many Thai/Laos restaurants both in Edmonton and in travelling. Boualouang was exquisite and easily rated as one our family faves. The food was delicious, expertly prepared. Each dish was a culinary delight! Highly recommend this little jewel. Thanks to the staff for making this Christmas Eve dinner one to rave about!
LOVE love love this place!. Great Thai food has been hard to find but someone introduced me to this place and I can't get enough. The items I ALWAYS buy are the Seafood Green Curry (or you can get it with other meat(s)), Stuffed Chicken Wings and the Green Beans.
Its a little beautiful place with a great atmosphere. Perfect for a date or group of friends. You'll want to share your dishes because the servings are big.
The Pad Thai is also amazing.
I bring my friends here. Delish! I'm a sucker for ordering the same items here: the creamy and zesty Green Curry, the Pad-Thai (a bit overly Canadianized and not very spicy for me, but appeases most), and their "white" coconut soup which is spicy and flavourful with zaffir lime leaves, jalapenos, bamboo, and mushrooms or chicken. Although last time someone forgot to add the spice, every other time it's been amazing. Sometimes I just get the soup to go on a cold day. I've had the coconut shrimp twice -- once it was crave-worthy and the other time it was just ok. To me the staple of a good restaurant is consistency and they're running at about 70% so that's the only thing I would hope they work on.
My sister and I went for lunch today and really enjoyed the food. We had a duck and lychee curry, a fried fish dish, stuffed chicken wings and coconut rice. All was served by a very pleasant waitress with a big warm smile! Portions were generous, enough to take a little bit home each. The food came out hot and fresh with plenty of flavor. We were constantly checking what other people were having in anticipation of returning. Well worth it!
Awesome. I have been eating at this restaurant since forever. In fact, I still remember when it used to be a block north and shared the business space with a tailor and they used a 4 burner kitchen stove.... Honestly, they are now three times the size but still have the same quality!
I have traveled extensively in south east asia and I have to admit I LOVE the food here because it is authentic. Me and my wife have sampled over half of their menu and have loved every dish. Most people only know about pad thai, but this restaurant will tantalize you with more dishes than you can imagine. The best part... the chef is the owner!!!!!!
This is my go to Thai place, for 8 years now, back to when they only had 5 tables at the other location. I was eating number9,Yum, when it was still 7c and it has always been that good! I have only tried the pad Thai, 9,drunken noodles Penang, matsuman, and lychee duck curries, and maybe a few shrimp appetizers because they are always so tasty. They never disappoint. Ever. Service is good but you must order ASAP as they get swamped fast. And get there early, as I hate to sit and salivate while other tables get their food !!

Great dinner!. Three of us had dinner before going to the Citadel. We let our server know and she made sure to get us out in plenty of time. It was a full restaurant but she did a good job of keeping everyone happy. We started with samosas and Mango salad. The salad was fantastic with just enough heat. Pad Thai and green coconut curry was fresh, hot and delicious. It was a very enjoyable, although a little pricey.

Food was VERY good with just the right amount of spicy. I thought it looked a little pricy but the servings large so didn't need to order more than two for two people. Not expensive after all. Service very good not intrusive. Highly recommend. Very nicely decorated inside in fact surprised as it was that nice. YUMMY!!!

Wonderful!!. Went to Boualouang for the first time last night, and it was fantastic! Wonderful ambience, outstanding service, and the food was absolutely delicious! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone with a craving for great Thai food!
Best Thai Food!. Like the title says, this is the best place to get Thai food! I love the padthai here and their Thai soup is delicious as well. Definatly the only Thai restaurant that I would recommend to people.

Best Thai!!. This restaurant has ruined me for any other Thai restaurants!! It is simply the best; best quality, best tasting, and great service! I tried it on a chance that it was close to my hotel. (It as a 3 minute cab ride or 8 minute walk) The hotel had recommended two other places and when I checked both Urbanspoon and Yelp they both gave the other two low scores, so I found his place here and it had a lot of glowing reviews, and now I am a convert......Too bad it's so far away from me in the US. Our party had the Drunken Noodles, a cellophane noodle dish I can't pronounce and a mango salad....I swoon....

My Favourite Restaurant!. Boualouang has fantastic, flavourful, spicey food. I have a sensitive stomache and not once has their authentic cuisine made me feel anything other than satisfied. Their mango salad and red curry are so good I barely ever try something new. It's a quaint, quiet place that never seems too busy. The staff are always very friendly. This is my favourite restaurant in Edmonton by far. Worth every penny.

#1 Thai food in Edmonton. Best food ever! I just can't get enough! They take DEBIT and CC now. The owners are such friendly people, every time we go there the chef/owner comes out and visits with us, what a pleasant lady! And the food speaks for itself, I've never been disappointed, I love their food! Edmontonians are so lucky to have this place, great food and very clean. Yes, it's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for fresh, tasty and exotic ingredients (remember, we're in Edmonton).

This is our favourite Thai restaurant in Edmonton! We get the same thing every time, I get Penang curry with tofu, my husband gets green curry with tofu. The portion sizes are perfect (I can either eat it all and feel very full, or plan to save half for another meal) and the spice level is perfect for us. We have gotten better at remembering cash, but they have an ATM if you forget. It is always fun to pretend to practice pronouncing the name of this place! Boooaauuulaaaangangangang!!

Good food but expensive. Portions are large and food is pretty good quality....however, it's quite pricey and they only accept cash. Also, the food didn't taste like authentic Thai, but it was still good.
Two thumbs up!. My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner last year, and it was great. Food is wonderfully presented and so flavourful. It's a bit out of the way for us, so can't visit as often as we'd like, but will happily go back.
Good Thai Food. Went here with my girlfriend. I ordered the jumbo coconut shrimp appetizer and Thai Ice coffee for starters. The coconut shrimp was a bit greasy and the service was very slow. There was only one guy waiting tables so that may have been why. We came passed lunch hour and it was quite busy with big tables filled. For our entrees, we ordered a curry chicken dish and coconut rice. My favorite was the ice coffee drink because I usually order ice coffees at other places and have never tried the Thai style ice coffee. I would come back again to try other dishes.

Authentic but pricey. My laos colleague came with me and he said their dishes taste like as good as his mom makes. But I have to say even if you just wanna come here for lunch, you are expected your wallet must be drained.

Thai-rrific. This is definitely one the best Thai restaurants on the city. It is not that big though and gets busy, especially at lunch, so go early. It is worth the wait.
Great thai. I usually eat at Viphalay or Syphay but both were closed so I ventured to Boualouang last week. The place was pretty empty when we were there in the middle of the afternoon so the server was really attentive and food was quick. I had #24 which was really good, not spicy at all which is pretty much all I can handle for heat. I don't know if I would say it was better than Viphalay or Syphay but it was definitely a great meal and I would definitely go back.

Best Thai in Edmonton!. I used to still remember when this place was a hole in the wall a few years back. I can definitely see why the upgrade though, the food is amazing! I absolutely adore the chicken and shrimp pad thai, perfect mix of flavours. My go to thai place, and the one I recommend to everyone.
Sooo tastjy. The best take out in the city. They take total care of the food. Maybe they should try to find another way to package it. Still, sooooo tasty.
Dang! The secret is out. This is my favorite Thai restaurant (ya, ya, I can claim the same bragging rights to their old location with the few tables... whatever...). Selfishly whenever I encounter a hidden gem, I'm often torn between wanting to shout it from the rooftops and keeping it quiet enough to always be able to get a table. Boualouang is no longer hidden but still a gem. Have never had anything but great food as my friends and I work our way through the entire menu. So good I can't claim just one dish as a favourite. Do me a favour? Enjoy, but don't tell too many friends.
Coconut rice, mango, and ice cream- what more do you need?. The ambience was way better when they operated out of that little hole in the wall up the street, but the food is still good. You've gotta try that cocunut rice for dessert. Apparently they cook it for over 24 hours. You don't have to wait a full day- you know what I mean!
Best thai in alberta. This little place was a short walk from my hotel and had great reviews so i decided to brave the cold and walk over. upon arriving i was told they did not have a table for one as they had two large parties coming who had reserved tables. i decided to take my food to go, slightly annoyed that it might be cold by the time i got back to my room. it took about 5 minutes to get which was impressive and it was still warm when i finally got to eat it. i had high hopes for my dinner and was not disappointed. the chicken pad thai was amazing!! it is the pad thai i have been searching for and hands down the best i i've had in alberta.

Great Thai food. The food is great but the service is not because I think it appears the wait staff are not able to keep up with the demand. I think the wait staff are trying and are polite but they appear to be a family run business so they are not as polished in their efficiency. They did not have enough menus so that slowed down the whole order process for all patrons. But when the food does arrive at your table the food is worth the wait. So get there early and order as quickly as you can and you will enjoy the food for sure.

We have been back two other times and the service has improved with more staff and menus! The food is still great and worth eating there. It is one of my favorite places for really good food.

Had a very nice experience, the servers were freindly and attentive, the food was above average; I would compare it to some of the high end Thai spots in Vancouver. The only down side, the portions are small for the price.
Delicious food! I highly recommend the #18 curry (don't remember the name), as well as the papaya salad. Their Pad Thai is by far the best I have eaten.
Awesome food and a full house at lunch when I went! Really friendly staff and an interesting menu. the only downsides are 'cash only' and it's fairly expensive dining, especially for lunch.

YUM YUM. I love the food here. I've been to Thailand and this place is as close to the real thing I've tried in Edmonton. Don't get to hung up about the service...its iffy in Thailand as well..just adds authenticity!
Terrible Experience- the restaurant was freezing and they screwed up our order multiple times. They did not offer to rectify the mistakes or discount our bill. Have had great food there in the past but won't be back for a long time.
Great thai food for lunch. As a result of a coworker absolutely in love with this restaurant, I go here way too often. That's not to say its a bad thing because the thai food here is great, the service is decent and things can get quite busy at lunch time (but not busy enough to be super noisy).
I have ordered the pad thai here twice (chicken) and though it is quite good, the first time I finished it, I noticed a ton of oil at the bottom which grossed me out a little bit. The second time, there wasn't any at all - I suppose a third time will let me know if its consistent or not.
I have also ordered the seafood noodle which was really good. Although the ingredients and noodles are important, most important to me is the soup and everything was delicious.
Will have to try the curries next time as I hear from coworkers that those are quite good as well.
Whenever I feel like authentic Thai food I come here. The food really brings me back to thailand. Great flavors good portion sizes and good prices. The tom yum is always a favorite.
Great food want to go to Thailand. The food is fantastic. It has made me seriuosly want to go to Thailand for the food. I have been to other Thai places for food but this place has unbelievable flavour you just have to come back to try new dishes. The Tom Yum soup is a fave and the green Curry dish is great.
The new place is nice, lots of tables but the service was needing improvement. I think 6 tables (23 seats) going to 13 (40 seats) was a shock for the staff. I think they have adjusted and you will be amazed. Give it a try but I worry too many will love this place and I will have to be a person who waits in a line.
