Do not let the negative reviews keep you away from this place! Service is a bit iffy but they are polite. Could literally eat a tables worth of their dumplings! Red curry was very well done as well.
Terrific! The service is fast and the staff courteous. It's one of the only places in Dartmouth Crossing I can go for lunch and be able to eat and get back to my office in time. I love their food!
I ate here for the first time on Friday night, the service was great, the place is clean, and the food was very fresh and tasty.I am very fussy about Asian restauraunts, but have to say....can't wait to eat there again. The prices are also good.

Good overall. Decient quality at a good price, only thing is that they are cheap and charge for extra hot sauce, that annoys me.( hope the owner is reading this, stop charging for a tablespoon of hot oil ), a whole dollar for hot sauce that is not even hot, i asked for the hottest they have and I ate the whole contents of the plastic cup it came in without breaking a sweat. BOOOOOOoooo get some real hot sauce!!!! if you have a craving for hot food, go somewhere else, otherwise its bang on. Now I just order take out as I use hot chilli oil from home rather then that pansy sauce they use there. Maybe its hot for infants or if you pour the entire contents of the cup in your eye it might burn.. I still go back thos occosianally.. On a wierd note, everytime I go there in the evening, there is a girl up plugged in to her laptop near the counter. she is not eating or drinking so staff, or owner, or whatever you are, note the following. No feedback or acknologement to staff and customer is basically negative feedback to staff and customers. Get an office or get out of the customers faces if you are not going to interact with anyone, your not helping the business sitting on your ass like a statue in the dining area with no personality.

Definitely recommend and going back .... I love Asian food .. so much so that I make my own Pho, shrimp rolls and other Asian items at home. So I am easily disappointed in Asian restaurants that substitute grease and sugar for Asian cooking. Fortunately, that was not the case here ... the sauces were light and delicious. The vegetables were delicious, lightly cooked and still slightly crunchy, so you knew they were fresh. I had the Coconut milk chicken soup, and the C-10 combination (Almond Chicken Gai Ding and chicken balls). Loved them all. The curry egg roll was yummy. I was a little less crazy about our appetizer, the calamari, which was a shame, since we usually love calamari. I love them crunchy but we were served 6 large rings that were mostly batter; probably wouldn't order that again. My husband had Shanghai noodles and nearly liked the plate; the meat had clearly been marinated very well before the dish was made and was very tasty. His Thai soup was also flavouful and did not disappoint. Have a new restaurant to add to my list of favourites in Dartmouth. Thanks, Modern Orchid.

Well satisfied a second time - we'll be back. We just had a very nice mid-Saturday-afternoon lunch at the Modern Orchid. We both had the lunch special, which included soup, salad, spring roll, generous portion of rice, and choice of about 10 main dishes for $10.95. My wife had the spicy beef, while I had the red curry chicken. We also had a bottle (litre) of pretty good Pinot Grigio for $30. Service was attentive, but not intrusive, and we even got gift cards for a future visits. We will definitely be using them for a third visit sometime soon. I honestly can't figure out what the whiners from Jan 05 & 06 2012 are on about.
I love the food here!! Even better that I work here, I almost always order something when I work. Amanda and Philip are also great bosses! Also very hard workers, and it shows. Our customers are the best too. Always happy!

Absolutely the best I have ever had...... I couldn't disagree more with the past two reviews, however everyone is entitled to an opinion. I first found Modern Orchid in June 2011. Since I ate there the first time, I have returned each and every week atleast once and most weeks more. I drive an hour and one half each way to eat at the Orchid. The owners, Amanda and Phillip are wonderful!! So kind and accomodating to their guests. The service is outstanding, professional and very attentive. Their vision for the restaurant is exciting and I can't wait to see what comes in the future. The food is absolutely outstanding. Fresh, well presented, beautiful prepared and very tasty. I travel quite extensively and with Asian food being my favorite I have tried from Halifax to Paris to China and back.....the Modern Orchid is without reservation the best I have every had. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone without hesitation or restriction. Must haves on the menu are Salt and Pepper Shrimp, Crispy Spicy Beef, Fresh Salad Rolls, Crispy Beef Cakes, Hunan Chicken, Yang Chow Fried Rice, Moo Shoo Pork, Mango Chicken. Everything on the menu is exceptional. If you have not been to the Modern Orchid put it on your "must eat there" list. You will not be disappointed.
Great Food. The food is fresh and very tasty! This place has been open for two months so far, and business is picking up. Lunch specials are available, too. Opens at 11 am weekdays.
