Review The Vines - Dartmouth

Jono C
Have always loved it here, from dine in to take out. Vines has looked after us for years. Awesome food choice, quality and portion. Their known for their dinners, but they have amazing breakfasts as well. How about this? Stop reading my review and order something for yourself. You'll be glad you did.

Amazing food and drink, friendly staff. They opened the upstairs dining for us early and it made the first half of our date night feel a little more private and intimate having the entire room to ourselves for about a half hour. Not over-priced, but a little more than the average restaurant, however, the quality of food and service is worth the few extra dollars.

My wife and I went here a few weeks back, and we were very impressed by everything from the food to the staff. Before we were seated, I bumped into a kitchen staff, and I asked for a recommendation. It's definitely the best meal we've had in a long time

This place has amazing food but likes to close early. It says on google they close at 9pm. I tried to order out at 8:23 yesterday and the kitchen was "closed". I dont think the owner would be happy if they knew their employees were turning people away more than a half hour before closing.

Here is where I struggled with this. I really wanted to like this dinner as it was to celebrate two birthdays and mothers Day. I'll do this in two parts. I'll start with my positive. The server was top notch. Very personable, very attentive, very informative and just made the experience great. Everyone at our table commented on how great he was and how he enhanced the experience. Sadly my meal was sub par and I wouldn't even have given it a three star rating. I'd ordered Cajun fettuccine as I was excited for the chicken and sausage combo. I portion my food at home so would estimate that there was about an ounce of chicken breast in the whole dish (this was made up of 4 small bite size pieces of chicken). There was about 6 pieces of sausage to compliment the 4 pieces of chicken. The noodles that came were penne noodles and not fettuccine noodles. The serving size would have been adaquate for a ten year old and for $23.00 this fish just fell way short. Based on the service I'd say it's a great experience however based on the meal and the quality of the meal I'll stay home next time and just add some seasoning to a can of my kids canned ravioli. As for all my reviews this is my experience. You may find it very different from mine and that's ok. Lots really like the place and it's been around for many years. I wish them continued success.

My husband and I went to the Vines for our anniversary dinner. The service was great. We were seated promptly and the server was pleasant and friendly. We shared mussels for an appetizer. They were plain, but fresh and good. My main course of flambed scallops and shrimp was excellent. They were cooked perfectly and they were served on a bed of perfect el dente pasta. My husband really enjoyed his chicken parmigiana . We both ordered Caesar salad, because the last time we were there, it was really good. One of the best I’ve had. This time it was disappointing. The lettuce was not fresh. It was browned around the edges, the croutons, parmesan and bacon bits were obviously prepackaged. There is no way this was an ‘award winning’ salad as was promoted on the menu. I did complain to the server who apologized and said she would tell the kitchen, but nothing else was done. Hopefully this menu item will improve in the future.

I was there with my family on Mother's Day, a table of 8. We were told at the time we placed the reservation there would be brunch as well as regular menu. The only option we had was an 8 option menu that we could choose one item from, whether it be fried chicken and waffles to an omelet. There was no open brunch set up nor regular menu. It took us over an hour to get our food. The sausage was missing on one plate once received it was burned on the plates of both people that ordered it. Three of us order chicken and waffles, they were all overcooked and dry with a battered rock hard, another ordered an omelet which was burned on the bottom. When brought to the attention of our server the food that was not prepared properly was replaces, even though some of declined to have the food replaced and opted just to finish our fries and waffles we were told they would bring it anyway and we didn't have to eat it if we didn't want to. The omelet was replaced and again burned underneath. Whole wheat toast was not available nor could we get an English muffin that wasn't buttered. The icing on the cake if you will..... the server was inappropriate in his handling of the service to our group, with all of the mistakes, the poorly prepared food etc we barely received an apology. Over $300 spent on breakfast and over 2 hours to do it. First time at this establishment and probably won't return.

This restaurant is one of few in the city where 5 stars are not enough. The food and the service are beyond stellar. Been going there for many years and their use of fresh ingredients makes their pasta and Caesar salad outstanding.

Well I've been there twice now and I must say that although I loved the atmosphere, II was terribly disappointed both times. The first time I was there it was very busy and there to a funeral party upstairs. I ordered a pasta dish and did not get what I ordered so didn't eat with the rest of my friends. The staff was very friendly and apologetic so I decided to give it another try. a few weeks ago, I ordered the Tour of Italy and again was surprised at the quality of the meal especially since there were only a few tables occupied. The fettuccine was hard and stuck together, the alfredo sauce nearly non existent, curdled and sat in a pool of margarine, the chicken was very small and overcooked but I must add that the lasagna was delicious, excellent flavor. Unfortunately it all sat in a pool of butter and was thrown together making it look like a mess. I did not eat it and didn't want to complain so took it home to my son. he would eat anything, lol. Not sure if I will try it a third time

Never again will I wait so long to eat somewhere that has been recommended to me by numerous friends for years!! Oh my, the food is absolutely wonderful! I had gone for brunch a few years ago and had loved it but never got around to going for supper. We had friends visiting, one of them a chef, who mentioned wanting pasta and seafood and with it being our anniversary weekend, we figured we would bring them to The Vines. All four of us were blown away by the quality, the taste, the atmosphere and the great service. I can't wait to come back!

I ate at The Vines last night, the service was amazing, could not ask for a better server. There was alot of people there last night and she was extremely attentive and efficient. My husbands meal was delicious. I had the blackened Salmon, rice and veggies. I eat very healthy and thought this would be a great option. It was very good but everything seemed to me covered in melted butter or oil. When i finished my plate was covered in grease. I dont eat butter or fried foods so for me it wasnt as good as I had hoped. I told the server and she totally understood. I said if I ordered it next time I would ask that they use no butter and maybe use a small amount of olive oil instead. No reason to soak everything in it, the flavours of the salmon and veggies can be dressed up with herbs, otherwise it was cooked very nicely. The only other tiny issue is that we had a$10 coupon that is suppose to be taken off the second meal. It was not taken off until after the tax was added and I dont think that was fair. Love this place, service is always impeccable and food is delicious, keep up the good work!

Have gone to Vines for years and loved it. I've had my third bad meal there in the past few months. To start the ceasar salad was way too garlicky. I love garlic but it was disgusting. Just nasty. I ordered the Mediterranean pasta and it had no feta ?? I'm sure it was supposed to have feta ??? The bread that was brought to our table was stale and over cooked. The crust was super hard. Not happy at all. Did I complain ?? No !! It's just going down hill. This is the third time my meal was just not up to par. I must say our waitress and waiter were great. Youngish Blond girl and tall slender young man. Come on Vines I loved your restaurant. Not so much anymore.

We went for the pasta buffet this week and as always the food was wonderful and the staff was excellent. A few weeks ago we got take out and I mentioned that it was for a birthday dinner, they included some amazing treats for dessert as a surprise. One of our favourite spots for take out and eat in, we are never disappointed when we choose vines.

Awesome food and great service. Visiting from Atlanta GA and the Seafood Chowder was to die for. Highly recommend you visit this restaurant. We had reserved the upstairs for a dinner party which was wonderful.

We spent a week in Nova Scotia. This restaurant was the absolute best that we encountered. Great staff, great food, a great time!

We eat at Vines Pasta Grill, at least once a week, when we are home in Dartmouth, NS. It is one of the best restaurants in Dartmouth! In particular, we love their Caesar salad. It is the best! We highly recommend the all-you-can-eat pasta night, which is every Wednesday evening and their "Taster's Night" event, which is the last Thursday of every month. We travel a lot and we eat out a lot. This place stands out! We love the food and the service!

My husband and I always enjoy our times at the vines! The place was packed we called and got a reservation for upstairs within minutes and to tell you the truth that room is beautiful much more spacious and relaxed than the main dining room! I actually preferred the upstairs! Our meal was delicious portions as always very filling and our meal was timed perfectly from appies to main to dessert!! Thanks for making these busy parents night out perfect!!!!

We just love this restaurant, between the great service and the great food how could one go wrong here. We bring friends along to introduce Vines Pasta Grill whenever the opportunity arises. Always very pleased, Kristy and the crew in the dining room take great care of us each and every time. See you all soon. 😊

Just home from tasters night. Our first in a very long time, but definitely won't be waiting so long again! Loved everything on the menu and our server Peter was wonderful. Definitely will be back!

Vines Pasta is a great place to go, the food is wonderful especially the taste of Italy, the atmosphere is nice and of course we have been eating there for years and we were there last night for Valentine's and we had the pleasure to go upstairs which we never knew there was an upstairs. Very Cozy. Never ever a one bad experience. Great food and great people.
