Review Betty's Place Cafe - Courtenay

My friend recommended this place. I was a bit skeptical going into it because they didn't have fries as a side. Glad I was wrong because the salad was fresh and full of flavor and the burger had a great char taste to it. My friend meal also looked hardy and delicious too. Service was friendly and quick. The ambient in the dining area was comfortable.

We got here just before the crowd and was able to get a table in an impressively engineered and earthquake proof patio. The food was good and hit the spot. But because the server did not get one of our orders correctly, we did not have a complete order to start. We would have gladly come back for breakfast the next day, but they were closed.

It’s probably one of the worst restaurants I’ve ever been… The drink, Asian Pear, was a light cocktail without any depth, it’s like anyone could make it. The appetizers: Chicken Yakitori, was the only highlight of the night. The sauce was excellent and the chicken hearts were cooked perfectly. Pork Tenderloin, the meat was dry and the vegetable slaw was too sour that took away the brown butter. Seafood chowder, it’s like a seafood medley with clams salmon cod etc. the flavour was decent, not the best neither was the worst I’ve had, nothing special about it. Entrée: Buddha Bowl, where do I even start… The presentation was really bad because they took out the pulled pork which was supposed to be on the side, the sushi rice was not sticky, the sauce was simply miso concentrate, the pickled ginger was so overwhelming. The House Special pulled pork was EXTREMELY salty even with rice and the prawns were lack of flavour. I would’ve given minus scores for this dish if I could. $19+$6+$8.5 for this bowl was just not worth it. The dessert: Crème brûlée, the layer of the sugar was so think which made it difficult to consume. The customer service was not great either. Our waitress forgot to provide us with the cutlery and started taking our empty dishes while I was still eating. She even accidentally took the plate away when there’s still food in it. All in all, I’ll never recommend this place to anyone who is seeking good food.

This place came recommended by a friend. It is a quaint little restaurant that is compliant with Covid protocols. I felt very comfortable and safe coming here. Service is top notch. Our server was pleasant and knowledgeable of the food that is available. The food is excellent. Very tasty, well presented. It did take a little while to get our food but they were very busy. Customers were waiting to get in, it is that popular. Like many restaurants, they are working hard to get staffing levels up so those that are there are working very very hard and I applaud them for their services. I definitely recommend this place to everyone. Edit July 16 2022, came back again and not disappointed. Had the pork sandwich. Service great, food very good. Glad I came back.

Great food. Great service. Our party of 4 had a variety of dishes. Burgers, bowls and enchiladas. All were good. The place was full but the food came in a reasonable time. I had a southwest bowl with pulled pork which was really good. It’s a popular place so go before or after the dinner rush to avoid waiting.

Huge variety on the menu, wholesome comfort food. The pulled pork burger and eggplant sweet potato quesadilla was delicious! The miso ginger dressing on my salad was 👌 Will be back to try out more things on the menu!

Soooooo good. We were a bit unsure at first because their menu is quite large and sometimes that means the restaurant is less focused on quality. Not the case here. Everything we ordered was delicious, flavourful, tender and cooked to perfection. Quite possibly the best restaurant in Courtenay and at a great price point.

Delicious lunch at Atlas Café. I was greeted upon entering and sat right away. Definitely a popular place for lunch in beautiful downtown Courtenay. I enjoyed the seafood on toast, which was local clams in a red Thai curry sauce. The flavour and local ingredients came together for a wonderful starter. I also had the smoked salmon pockets, which were very good. Thank you for a lovely lunch Atlas café.
