Great service, generous portions and some of the best sushi I have had in ages.

Really lovely and kind waitresses and servers, forst time being here was delicious sushi and the way they presented the sushi dishes was beautiful art.

Flavor is really authentic for Spicy Seafood Ramen (more like chewhly noodle not instant noodle at all) a.k.a jjambbong in Korean. Super busy vibrant place need to wait for seating and ordering food for sure. One point minus for the second smoke that kept wafting in from the opened kitchen door (it's hot I understand) and ppl smoking near the door. Will be back again and maybe sit farther away from the entrance to avoid that.

Delicious, fresh, well made sushi with great service. Flexible seating for families. Good parking.

Our family's go-to sushi restaurant in town. If you want take-out, the online ordering system works well and it's simple. Their sushi and sashimi is great, tempura is hot and crispy and not greasy. In fact, no dish has been disappointing, and we've tried almost all of them. I recommend you try the halibut tempura. Staff are also friendly and efficient. All round, a great restaurant. Prices are not low, mind you...

This is definitely one of Courtenay’s hidden gems. Very clean inside and the servers were friendly and efficient. Now for the food, we had the Chef’s Plate which changes daily and only a limited amount are served. It was delicious, actually better than delicious. We also had the California Bento and equally as yummy. They also were generous with the amount of food as we could not eat it all. Absolutely coming back!

Service was friendly and fast. I died and went to sushi heaven when I was informed so many things could be gluten free, including the tempura! Highly recommend. We ordered 6 rolls and they were all delicious.

My wife and I went for supper - spur of the moment - last Saturday. Nice inside decor. She had a Bento box and I had the Chicken teriyaki. Both were excellent. Generous portions. Very good service too! We'll be back for sure!

Great Bento Boxes!! Liked the whole meal. From the miso soup to the sunomono to the main entrees of the plate itself. The sashimi was fresh, the tempura was good, the rolls were good. Will come back again for the bento boxes, if not to try their list of special rolls.

Great sushi restaurant with generous portions and good value. Had the agedashi tofu, yam avocado roll, tamago maki and yam tempura. Could not finish it all, had to take some home. The building looks small and plain from the outside, inside it's well decorated, very clean, wait staff was friendly and service was prompt. Will be going back. Many vegetarian options.

I went to this sushi restaurant today oh my own on my way back from a business trip.<br/>The trio had bad good so maybe that's why this tasted SO good to me!<br/><br/>The place was empty for lunch so I was seated in a nice booth right away. Friendly service and a cool little place, nice atmosphere and clean.<br/><br/>I had green tea which was nice and a nigiri special with the daily roll which was a spicy Tuna type roll.<br/><br/>This sushi was so delicious!! There was a great variety of 6 pieces of Nigiri, all different types and fresh and tasty. The little salad was quite fancy and really yummy and the special roll was especially delicious.<br/>This is a must visit!

I used to like this place but lately the service has been horrible.I had to walk away without food after an hour wait.I was ignored and the staff seemed too busy to care.The place was half full so they have no excuses  for this level of bad service.Under staffed and apathetic.

Great experience!. Food was excellent and service was great! We were visiting from out of town and when I called to inquire about take-out, Heather was very helpful. She directed me to their menu page in the phone book and told me to call back if I needed any more help.<br/><br/>When we called back to order, the pick up time was very reasonable. We had quite a large order and it was ready in less than 20 minutes. The quality of the fish and the presentation was excellent. We also ordered beef teriyaki and it was very tasty and tender. We will definitely be eating from Seh-mi Sushi again!

Mediocre at best. 2 of 5 stars<br/>Arrived at 515 on a Saturday Nov 15, 2014.<br/><br/>The place was clean and quiet, the waitress was attentive but misinformed. Vancouver island is a world leader in wasabi cultivation, my first inquiry of our server was "do you have authentic wasabi available?" She assured me they did. I received wasabi flavoured horseradish paste with my sushi (in low end industry standard in North America). Starting off on the wrong foot (being lied to) is never good, but I was in vacation and tried to keep positive. <br/><br/>The tempura was spot on.<br/><br/>The teriyaki chicken was disgusting.<br/><br/>The sushi rolls seemed to have no pride involved in their creation. The sub-par sushi chefs left ugly cuts with their knife work in the mediocre fish (which I BELIVE was pre-cut en-mass in a large white bowl in the back)<br/><br/>After ordering a California roll and having it come smothered in sauce that appeared to cover the sub-par chewy fish up.<br/><br/>My second roll (I ordered two) was a rainbow roll. It was advertised to come with "5 types of fish" I'm not sure when avocado and shrimp became fish. It also contained sloppy cut fish and a large chewy end piece slapped on its end. Rather embarrassingly prepared, I will attach a picture.<br/><br/>There are better options than this place for sushi. <br/><br/>So advice for the staff/owner<br/>#1 don't lie to customers, they may not be ignorant even though they are white <br/>#2 If your job as a sushi chef is rolling rice and cutting fish, have pride in your work and use a sharp knife.

My regular sushi spot.. I am a very picky sushi eater, and this place is great! I eat here at least twice a week. Chopped scallop roll is very good, nigiri is great and I love their mixed sunomono salad. Very pleasant staff. Never had anything I did t enjoy!

Must go!. Excellent food, service, menu, everything! Combos very well priced! what more can I say? must go and try them out. Locally owned, super friendly owners. #1 sushi place

We have been looking for a good sushi restaurant since we've moved to Courtenay and I'm happy to say we finally found one! We consider ourselves sushi experts! We used to have to drive to Parksville for great, reasonably priced sushi, not anymore! We eat there at least once a week, go try it and you'll have a new favorite restaurant!

Fantastic!!!!. The quality of the food here is excellent. For my first meal I had the sashimi platter and prawn tempura. The fish was to die for and the portions were beyond expectations. The tempura was excellent, nice and crispy while the prawns melted away in my mount :) <br/><br/>In Vancouver this restaurant would have lineups.

Good experience all round. Four of us had dinner at Sehmi earlier this week. The restaurant has been completely made over from the former Mexican restaurant motif, and it's clean, crisp and welcoming - booths and three tatami rooms. Server was friendly and helpful, food was tasty and plentiful, and the price was VERY good. We would definitely go back.

Lunch. Tried a couple of pieces of sushi first to test the waters and the unagi was so covered in sauce I couldn't taste anything else. Should have taken a hint but ordered the Oyako Don and a similar story. It was more like soup than anything with the amount of sticky sweet sauce on it, the chicken soggy and not a spec of rice anywhere that wasn't loaded down with sauce. Inedible and I won't go back. Server was pleasant though.
