Big portions! Came here after a long day at work and we we're quickly seated. We ordered a family combo and a side or rice soup and we were quite happy with our food, the tangsooyuk (marinated deep fried pieces of chicken) and it was d e l i c i o u s, so juicy and crispy, the rest of the food that came was tasty and the portions for everything was very good. The service was good and the waiters were attentive and nice. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place.

• kind of hidden along North Road where Independent grocer store is
• lots of parking space available
• make a reservation please as the place is busy in the evening or prefer to have your order to go
• perfectly seasoned food for me, not salty at all, my type!
• my fave is the sweet & sour chicken! Served piping hot, yummy sauce, the crunch & chewiness are unexplainable
• the black bean noodle: Jajangmyeon is new to me. I liked the noodle texture and well balanced taste to it. Perfect combination with the sweet & sour pork and chicken
• combo 7 is good for 10 people I must say
• attentive servers, fresh & good quality dishes
• $18-22/ per person for meal combo

Solid spot. Brought here by a Korean friend who ordered for us. It's an authentic shop that is known particularly for their Ja Jang Myun. Excellent stuff!

There are many Korean restaurants on North Road, but this one stands alone in the complex of Independent supermarket. There are a plenty of parking stalls in a big parking lot.

My family and I had lunch here. The restaurant was quite busy. There were a lot of customers before noon already. We were lucky to get a table without waiting. Many customers who walked into the restaurant had to wait in line.

We ordered ja jang noodles, rice with braised tofu with pork, prawns, scallops and veggies and jjam bong (noodles in soups with seafood and veggies). The portion of each dish was big. We had to pack half of the rice with braised tofu and some ja jang noodles home. The quality of each dish was above average. I gave 4/5, because there was a lot of MSG in the food! I felt very thirsty right after the meal.

I liked a wide variety of food selection on their menu. Pricing was reasonable. The service was good. I would probably come back to try their sweet and sour pork or chicken. Many Korean customers ordered them. They must be good!

I've been to Korean Chinese restaurants in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Regina but hands down this is the best Korean Chinese restaurant in Canada.
Their food is amazing. The black bean paste noodle is not too salty. Tangsooyook (sweet and sour pork)'s portion is so big that you have to take home!
Love it.

I've been obsessed with Korean Chinese food, as of late. Namely jajangmyeon and tansuyuk. Squishy black bean noodles and deep fried pork...what a combo!!.   Jajangmyeon, kanpoongi, tansuyuk is basically the Korean version of Chinese ja jiang mein, kung pao chicken and sweet & sour pork! It's totally different though! Korean jajangmyeon has a thicker paste, kanpoogi is deep fried instead of stir fried, and unlike the Cantonese version, the sauce for the tansuyuk is served on the side (and isn't a radioactive shade of red.)

There are quite a few Korean Chinese restaurants in the vicinity, but Hee Rae Deung is one of the more popular ones!! They're famous for their humongous, family sized portions. I almost fell over when the waitress brought over my tansuyuk...it was shockingly HUGE. Not that I'm complaining, who in their right mind would turn down a mountain of deep fried pork?

Your best bet is to order one of their combos, the smallest combo is only $32 and comes with a jajangmyeon, a jjampong, and tansuyuk ~ which is enough to feed 3-4 people, or 2 in my case. What can I say? My mom and I are big eaters! We managed to finish everything heheh

I feel like the combo deals are pretty worthwhile; they serve a lot of food, even for the smallest combo split between four people. Dishes are also vegetarian upon request, but I think doing so isn't getting your money's worth. I have yet to try the dumplings :P

This place was within walking distance from Lougheed Mall, so we decided to try it out. At 7pm, the place was full, but we didn't have to wait long. The sea cucumber and seafood soup was very nice, and not salty, much to our liking. The jajiang noodle sauce was rich, also not too salty. The amount of onions was a little much to our taste. The deep fried pork was very good, and it was a very generous portion.

Deep fried dumplings are a must if you are in a group. There are about 10 dumplings to an order.

Sweet and Sour Fried Pork comes with a lot for one dish. Plenty to go around the table. They serve the sauce and pork separately to ensure the pork remains crisp until you devour it with the sauce.
Gan Ja Jang is noodles with a mixture of stir fried veggies, pork and black bean sauce. This is one of the specialty items here, plus some Koreans have said this is the best place to get Ja Jang Myun.

Hee Rae Deung is a Korean Chinese Restaurant on North Road in the same plaza as the Independent Grocer. Since we knew it was a busy day, we came here at 5:45pm on a weekend for dinner, to our surprise, there was already a long wait ahead of us. We waited for about 30 minutes until we got seated. To start off the meal, they give us pickled radish, bean paste and onion. You take a piece of the raw onion and put a little bit of bean paste to it. It changes the flavour completely.

One of the better KOR-CHN fusion in Western Canada. Their jjajang (noodles with fermented black bean sauce) was flavourful and well-balanced with all individual ingredients present. Sweet and sour pork was quite tangy. Service, as per usual for Asian cuisine restaurants, stick to the basics (they won't make a huge fuss over you).

Korean-Chinese food in Coquitlam, this place is well frequented by Koreans and is considered very authentic Korean-chinese food but I personally prefer the jajangmyun from Tae-Won in Burnaby more. Other than that this is definitely one of the best places to go for some good ol’cheap Korean-Chinese. Service is fine, very busy and interior is quite ugly but to be expected...

Much-enjoyed lunch!!. Our lunch at Hee Rae Deung recently, was a first-time visit for us. We arrived just a couple of minutes after the restaurant opened at 11am. One table was occupied, and the restaurant filled with diners rather quickly, and was totally-full, with a few people waiting for tables, before the noon-hour arrived.

We were showed to a booth-style table, and promptly provided with menus, and a pot of tea. As first-timers to the restaurant, and type of cuisine (Korean Chinese), we requested some assistance from our server with the ordering - we all decided that one of the combos would be a good and best choice, and allow us to 'experiment' a little and try a few dishes to share.

What we ordered: Combo 'C' - three dishes (meat, seafood, and noodle), priced at $44.90 - our server assured us (a threesome) that we had ordered enough food, and we took her advice. And when the dishes arrived, were sure glad we had done so - the individual servings were very large in size - family-size portions. She saw the 'wow' expressions on our faces when the first dish arrived!

This combo consisted of the following three dishes:

- meat -- Tang Su Yuk - sweet & sour fried pork. The pork was lightly-battered, crispy on the outside, and very sweet, moist, and tender on the inside. What I really liked was that the sauce itself was on the plate, under the pile of pork, not mixed into and on the pork - leaving the sauce to use and enjoy as one desired (in contrast to so many restaurants that stir and spread their sweet & sour sauce over, and through the food - that's ok, if you like their sauce, but not, if you do not). With this presentation, you were able to choose how much you wished to use - kudos!! A large, so well-prepared, and presented meat dish, and tasty too!!

- seafood -- Pal Bo Chae - spicy mixed seafood & mixed vegetables. It looked good, tasted good, and we left nothing on the plate!! Heh, some of the seafoods were a touch tough, and definitely required some chewing, but well-worth the effort for the taste rewards. We really enjoyed this dish!!

- noodle -- Family Ja Jang - large black bean noodles with seafood, vegetables & pork. Our reaction to this dish was - too much sauce, and for me, too much onions. We did enjoy the noodles, and picking out the tasty seafood pieces, and some of the veggies. But our conclusion - it would not be a dish we would order again.

We had a great first-time experience - we liked the ambience of the restaurant, the well-prepared & presented, tasty food, and the friendly, and most-accommodating service!! We saw some great looking soups when there - suspect three of them will be on our table when we're dining at Hee Rae Deung the next time - and looking forward to that!!

Delicious! I've been here tons of times with both family and friends! They're at varying degrees of busy-ness, but the ja Jung myun (noodles in black bean sauce) never disappoint. It's about 6 dollars, a large portion size, and soooo good u__u. I recommend eating in if you can, because food is always better fresh.

Yum. Good service, crispy chicken and good portions. I ordered the spicy chicken with vegetables dish which is big enough for 3 people. Another great dish is their steamed dumplings. Staff are always courteous and ready to explain their menu if you have any questions.

I LOVE jajang myun and when my brother told me about this place i havent been able to go anywhere else for my jajang myun fix! Personally, i feel like they could use less onions in the jajang but thats because i dont like onions... However i am willing to eat them if it means i get to have this delicious meal. decently priced, good portions, and apparently you can get it "size and a half" if you know the secret phrase...

Pleasant Surprise!. Being a Steveston girl, I don't often venture out into the Coquitlam area and was quite amazed by the amount of Korean stores and restaurant options along North Road...it all makes sense now why my friend refers to this area as Korean town! I was in the area for a meeting and met up with a friend for lunch who recommended this place.

I usually pride myself on my ability to read any Chinese/Japanese/Vietnamese menu and know exactly what each menu item is and should taste like, so I felt very out of my element when reading their menu as I don't often go for Korean food much. Alas I put the fate of my stomach into the hands of my friend who ordered for me and needless to say he did not disappoint! We had the ja-jang myun and the ggan poong gi (apologies for the bad Romanization) which I didn't think would be a lot but was more than filling for two people. Noodles were surprisingly light and packed with flavour without the MSG hit, and the chicken...ohh how perfectly breaded, deepfried and sauced up they were! Wish I had a second stomach to try the sweet and sour pork!

One of better Korean Chinese Restaurants. To many Korean people, myself included, Korean style Chinese food is the best kind of comfort food. It brings the memory back.

Compared to 90's there are so many decent Korean Chinese restaurants in Metro Vancouver area but I would only recommend a few. Heeraedeung I would recommend. Both the food and the service are pretty good.

I had ja-jang myun (black bean noodles), jjam-bbong (noodles in spicy soup with seafood), tang su yook (pork battered/ deepfried with vegetables in sweet and sour sauce), ggan poong gi (chicken battered/ deep fried with vegetables in spicy sauce) and mool man doo (boiled dumplings).

I liked all the dishes but one thing that I would like it changed is that the ggan poong gi (the chicken dish) had way too much black pepper, which was over powering.

Anyhow, I would recommend this place and would go back any time.

All in all, I’d really recommend this restaurant, especially if you’ve never tried this sort of food before. Although on reflection, I guess some of the flavours and the ingredients can be repetitive, but I don’t really mind. Also, Korean restaurants are notorious for ill-mannered, inattentive servers, but I’ve always received quite enthusiastic and pleasant service here. The prices are very reasonable, with most entrees priced below $10, and the portions are very generous. However, I’d recommend bringing a Korean friend with you if possible as the English descriptions on the menu are not exactly helpful! But definitely recommended!

It was another Korean Night with Fabo, TanGuy, M and InsecureGirl. We ventured off to try a new restaurant on North Road that specializes in Jajangmyun, which is Korean black bean noodles. M and Fabo both really wanted some good Korean black bean noodles! Hee Rae Deung Korean Chinese Restaurant has Korean Style Chinese food, so you won't find the traditional tasting chinese dishes. Apparently, this new restaurant has gained quite a popularity in the Korean community and there are actually line ups for dinner time. All the seating is booth style, so it can accomodate large groups. If you are Chinese and you walk in here thinking the menu will be easy to understand since you are an expert at Chinese food, think again…everything is in Koreanized english. You will need to know a few basic Korean food words to get by. The menu is quite large but good thing it has pictures, so you can just point at it and order. Tea and cold water arrives at your table when you are seated. The side dishes

I found out that they have the Korean fried chicken here too!  Which I’ve been meaning to try since my Korea trip with Fannypack last year.  Plus they seem to have a formidable ja jang myun also, so I was uber excited to try this restaurant out. Hee Rae Dung is a very family-style restaurant as you can see.  In fact, L commented how it’s like  HK-Style cafe and she felt like she should order a Hk-style milk tea. It’s definitely popular and busy.  We went at 7:30pm and it was still pretty packed, although we didn’t have to wait too long fo
