Grayson and I have been craving Northern Chinese food lately and where better than to satisfy it by heading over to Legend Noodle House? Legend Noodle House is located in a plaza across from Coquitlam Centre. ⭐⭐⭐. Rating: 2.5 out of 5. Not the best wontons we’ve ever had because they were oddly dry to bite into. Yes to the chili sauce on them but we would probably go for the dumplings instead next time.

The restaurant was sold, it had good food and considerate service. Good place for Chinese but can get loud. Would recommend for families and friends if their usual place is not available.

Their seafood dishes were the best in my opinion.

Hand-made noodles, fantastic XLBs, quick service, extensive and flavourful menu. Biggest draw is that I don't get that greasy food-coma feeling 30 minutes after the meal. Guilt-free Chinese food. I will be back over and over. Love this place.

Came here on a Saturday night for dinner with 3 other friends. We came here super early around 5pm so the restaurant was quite empty. We ordered the shredded chicken with glass noodle, stir fry beans with garlic, cumin beef, Xiao long bao (aka steamed pork dumplings), 1 steamed plain roll/buns, and 1 deep fried plain roll/buns with condensed milk dipping sauce. The food are on the salty side (except the plain buns of course) so we had to continue to drink tea the whole time and it's almost inevitable to consume some MSG in a Chinese restaurant. The bill came down to $16/person including tax and tips.

This place is very inconsistent, some of the items are incredible, some are average, and some are bad. Anyone that comes in here must definitely try the Shanghai soup dumplings, they were terrific. The beef rolls are a great appy to share with friends. The noodles were alright, however I feel like they were very greasy. The portion sizes are humongous. This place could be a lot better, if they had a more focused menu. Also, the service isn't very good, we asked the server to split our bill and he gave us a lot of attitude. This is a great place for takeout, I would avoid bringing family or friends here due to the inconsistent service.

This place had the best homemade Chinese noodles I've ever had. You can watch them making the food through a window at the entrance, which shows they have nothing to hide! I absolutely love the BBQ pork roll, and the thick noodles.

Authentic Chinese food and nice decor. The steam soupy buns are very good but a bit pricey (however not more expensive than other restaurants of its kind)

A great place for northern style Chinese food in the Coquitlam area. A variety of more "real" Chinese dishes but also including a "Canadian friendly" selection. Handmade noodles are a plus and their xiao long bao is not bad at all although not as delicate. All being said i find myself craving the dishes from this place and will continue to return regularly.

I'm sincerely glad that we are in a position in Vancouver where places like legend house can focus on Northern Chinese food without feeling a need to put some "safe" options on the menu.

Their Homemade noodles were excellent, their XLB were well done (although not the best I've ever had) and all the accompanments had that distinctive nothern flavour.  All they really need to do is drastically improve their service.  I've never felt so simulaneously pestered and ignored at the same time.

Don't let that discourage your visit though.

Good food. Their fried rice and noodles are decent. The dumplings are tasty. A bit on the pricier side but they make up for it in quality. Service was good but parking in the area is a bit of a pain due to paid parking. That said, street parking is free after 6. Worth your time to try if you're looking for a local place to dine.

Best dan dan noodles! Came here for their dan dan noodles ($6.95) right after having lunch at Namhansansung. I wasnt really hungry but i was still able to finish the whole bowl of noodles. It was very creamy and rich in flavours. The noodle was covered with lots of peanut sauce, minced pork and spinach. Will come back for sure!

My go-to for when I'm feeling like Chinese! It gets pretty busy around dinner time, but everything is so delicious! Definitely a place to check out!

My parents and I went here for lunch. We ordered a Sichuan hot and sour soup, beef rolls, xiao long bao and mu-shu stir-fried noodles. Oh my goodness! All of them tasted excellent. I told the waitress that it was our first time to visit the restaurant. She introduced these four dishes to us.

The hot and sour soup only cost us $6.95. We expected it was a small bowl or a decent size for three of us, but when the soup arrived, holy moly! It was a big pot of hot and sour soup!! Three of us had a lot of soup within a meal!

The beef rolls were crispy outside and soft inside. Everything was about right. We loved them.

The xiao long bao was big and the skin was not too thick. When we lifted the xiao long bao up from the steamed basket, it did not break and the soup didn't come out. It was great!

Last but not least, the mu-shu stir-fried noodles were tasty and its portion was big. So yummy!

I would definitely visit this restaurant again and try something else especially that I live close by this restaurant. The service was good as well. The pricing was reasonable with big protons.

Decent. The menu is comprehensive and has choices ranging from XLB, fried rice, noodle soup and other popular dishes. The hot and sour soup is very spicy (versus salty), and the XLB is decent but not as good as those Richmond heavyweights. Service is prompt and efficient. Overall a decent choice in the Tri-Cities.

I am Chinese and eat Chinese food at home 5 days a week, so believe me when I say that on weekends I hate going out to Chinese restaurants to eat more Chinese food.. Until I found this restaurant.
Legend house serves authentic Chinese food. My favourite is the Xiao Long Bao and legend beef rolls. Everything is made fresh to order and it's delicious. Service is also surprisingly good for a Chinese restaurant. The bad reviews on here were probably just written by white people who don't know what authentic Chinese food is LOL.

When you walk in, you are treated to a view of the kitchen where you can see the chefs preparing. After that brief and pleasant first step, the next step is to do what you go there to do: be seated and eat.

Just What Coquitlam Centre Needs!. Range: $7-$19: | The best mail I’ve received in a long time came today in the form of a menu for a new Chinese restaurant less than a minute’s walk from my place at 140-1169 Pacific Street (near the Target, next to Brown’s Social House). It’s called Legend House and specializes in northern Chinese and Szechuan cuisine. To me, that means lamb, dumplings, blade-sheared noodles (the north) and spicy chili dishes (Szechuan). As much as I like Lucky Gate on Austin, the Urbanspoon rating for which is way too low, that 10 minute drive is a pain for the princess in me, so I was giddy about there being another choice now. Ah, the sweet taste of free market competition.

After scanning the menu and thinking I wanted everything on it, the practical spender in me took over and figured two should do it — for now. Before I had taken a step in the restaurant, I had decided on the Spicy Clear Noodle Salad ($7) and blade-sheared noodles for my Cumin Lamb Stir-fried Noodles ($12). FYI, if you have a peanut allergy, be sure to let them know or ask. The salad’s default form includes peanuts.

When you walk in, you are treated to a view of the kitchen where you can see the chefs preparing. After that brief and pleasant first step, the next step is to do what you go there to do: be seated and eat.

The dining area feels spacious with its high, exposed ceilings. It has a sophisticated yet casual feel. It’s not huge, but not small either probably seating maybe 70 at a time with quite a bit of space for servers (which number 3-4 during dinner time) to still move around and not worry about banging into one another.

I loved their chopsticks. It’s a small thing but it counts and contributes to the dining experience, for sure. I don’t know where they got them, but I’m going to find out.

The Dishes

The first dish to come was the salad. My impression from the picture in the menu was that they would be chewy noodles, but they weren’t. It was more like fragile jelly and you needed to be careful with your chopsticks. Too much pressure and you’d cut the things in two and they’d fall right back into the bowl. I think they might be made with mung bean. Maybe.

Spicy Clear Noodle Salad

With my first taste, I thought of hot-dogs, oddly, and that’s why I liked it, knowing that it was tasty and although not exactly healthy food, probably not as bad for me as hotdogs. I bit into one of the garlic chunks and it felt like water chestnuts but intense. Not sure what they did to that garlic, but it was done well. The sauce was vinegary and a bit spicy. The green onion garnish added an extra layer of flavour and overall it was solid.

Next came the noodles, a good sized portion of chewy noodle goodness mixed in with thinly sliced, cumin-seasoned lamb and julienned green and red peppers plus onion. The peppers were cooked well as they weren’t soft and when you bit into a strip not only the flavour but the retained moisture inside was released. That’s a good sense of timing.

Definitely too much food for one person, this would be about 2.5 meals for an average eater who thinks a Whopper combo is enough food.

It was about prime-time 630 pm. The place was about 75% full. As I sat, more started coming in and by 7:00 pm or so it was full and a lineup began to form. I thought I would get my fill and give others a chance to enjoy themselves. I asked for take-out boxes and the bill. They had automatically given 10% off as a promo for their grand opening, so I didn’t need to tear up the menu I got in my mailbox.

When I first walked in, I thought the man at the front who I also thought might be the/an owner didn’t know much English because he deferred to a waitress to seat me. At the end of the meal, happy with my experience and wanting to speak with him, I asked the waitress if he knew English and she confirmed he did. I went up to pay my bill and we exchanged pleasantries. He introduced himself as Garry and I arranged for an interview to explore how this all came to be. So often we go to restaurants and all we talk about is the food, but what about the back-story, the people behind it all? It all comes from somewhere. I’m going to find out more about this place. Stay tuned! Oh, and check the place out!

Legend House is a fairly new Northern China cuisine restaurant in Coquitlam. The restaurant makes their own dumplings along with hand stretched noodles, and offers a variety of Szechuan dishes. Walking in, there is an open window kitchen concept and the interior is very nice. The restaurant has a rustic modern interior; unfinished wooden floors along the walls, bricks, a high ceiling and nice chandeliers. In addition, the restaurant is fairly big! There are comfortable booth seating arrangements and plenty of tables. Asides from being one of the larger Chinese restaurants in Coquitlam, Legend House is definitely one of the better looking ones. As for the staff, everyone was friendly. Our waitress double checked our order on her tablet and a few other waitresses came by to see if we needed more drinks. SZECHUAN HOT AND SOUR SOUP, "Pork, shrimp, bamboo, mushroom, and egg in a spicy sour soup ($6.95). Rating: 2/5. Legend House offers only one size of soup and the portion is huge, definitely enough to serve five people. As for the taste, the consistency is very watery and the soup is neither hot nor tangy. The two of us could not help but feel like it makes more sense to serve a smaller portion, but a better quality. The soup overall is very water

At any of these places I just must get Shanghai Pork soup dumplings (XLB) ($5.95 for 6 or $7.50 for 8). I was very pleased with them as the wrapping was chewy, and kept all the juices in.

天府 Legend House Coquitlam Town Centre recently opened in the summer. I am so happy to have more selection of a variety of Szechuan and Shanghai restaurant in Coquitlam. Legend House has some really juicy soup dumplings – XLB. The restaurant is bright and spacious. In the beginning it took awhile for the staff to be trained and everything to be running smoothly. Orders were missed and it was really hard to wave someone down. Few months into the opening, things start to look promising. Legend House also joined Just Eat online take out delivery .     Shanghai Xiao Long Bao Soup Dumplings 7.50: Eight pieces are super juicy XLB. Filled with minced pork, ginger and savory soup.     Snow Greens Soup Noodles 7.95: A light broth soup with Chinese greens and shredded pork.         Lan Zhou Beef Soup Noodles 8.95: Sliced five spice beef, spinanch and cilantro in a light broth with vermicelli and your choice of hand dragged, blade shredded noodles.   I hope Legend House Coquitlam continues to keep its consistency and stick around! Because where can you get juicy XLB in the Tri-Cities?   Legend House 天府 URL: http://legendhouserestaurant.com/ Cuisine: North China Chinese, Szechuan, Shanghai Coquitlam Town Centre 1169 Pacific St, Coquitlam, BC V3B 0J3 (604) 475-5222   The post Legend House Coquitlam | Juicy XLB Szechuan Shanghai Restaurant 天府 appeared first on .
