Review Jimmy's Place Restaurant - Coquitlam

Luke Weng
I've always heard about this place "pun not intended" from my sister but never went until today. We came straight from blood works, so it was in the morning. We were surprised, thinking it was a place like Denny's. Turns out it was a mom and pop owned restaurant by a friendly Korean family. They were very nice, and the vibe was very western, like the 60's. The food itself was expensive, but tasty. The only thing we didn't like was that there was no milk. Breakfast without milk?! đŸ˜± But other that that, this is an excellent breakfast place.

This gem is hidden in the corner of a strip mall. I had no idea it was there. A hidden secret. The Bacon and grilled onions with Cheese burger was kinda reminiscent of a Whopper but way better. Like a Whopper done right - juicy, filling and very tasty. (Obviously made with care and love) My son enjoyed his Chicken burger, my quick nibble on it brought back childhood memories of McChickens past. Way better than what you get today. I'm pretty keen to go back and try from their breakfast menu.

This little diner was exactly what we wanted for breakfast, before heading out to explore Port Moody and the lakes. Short wait as it’s a small busy place. They take your order first and you pay than they seat you. Excellent service and perfectly portioned fresh food.

Theres not a lot of places that will check great food, great portions, great price and friendly service! This does and will bring me back for those very reasons. Very cozy vibes and humble food. We ordered the House Egg Benedict and 2-2-2 (2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 sausages or bacon) and they’re so delicious! Recommended and will be coming back đŸ‘đŸœ

Good local place. Super nice staff. Denver omelette had mushrooms, tomatoes, and green onions in it along with all the regular Denver stuff.

Prompt service, amazing golden hashbrown, bennies are delicious, soft eggs as I requested, I can also tell hollandaise sauce is not from a can but probably in house made, servers kept refilling our coffee cups very often, smily and nice cashier, plenty of parking, well kept place, will come back again :)

IF YOU LIKE GOOD FOOD PLEASE READ: I’ve NEVER given a bad review in my life, and the people were really nice but
the food is just bland - hash browns literally tasted like it was cooked with water
I can’t lie about this
. From the look & taste of the Omelettes, I regretted not just cooking my own at home. I only came once so maybe it was my unfortunate experience - but honestly seems like people are lying in these reviews, or just have no desire for flavour which is fine if that’s how they are
but if you enjoy good food, spend the extra $5 and go to another restaurant
or it may even be cheaper, my meal was $19 for omelette & hot chocolate before the tip
pretty sure Denny’s may be cheaper (and greasier, but better tasting for sure
). Hate to do this review, but I wish I actually read something like this before stepping in. I personally won’t be ordering food here again.

Consistently great food and service... Regardless if you order the breakfast or the burgers. Double patty on the burger a must have.

Good cheap breakfast. I come here for the hash browns. They are so crunchy and delicious.

Love the atmosphere, price, and the food. Staffs are friendly too!

Hidden breakfast jem! They have good basic breakfasts and some more interesting things in the menu at a very reasonable price. If you like Cora's, IHOP, De Dutch - this place is better.

I’ve been coming to this place on and off for almost ten years when I used to love near by; and let me tell you it hasn’t changed. (Which is a great thing) You walk in, look at the menu, order and pay then you walk over to the cutlery station and then pick your seat. The staff of always friendly, the food is mouth watering good. The ambience is so/so but I like to support local family eateries. If you haven’t tried this place yet...what are you waiting for?!

I find it very amusing of all these years living in the area, and sometimes good restaurants are just places that i wasn't able to find but something i always come across. Came here very early morning, and got the ham benedict, was really thinking of getting the house special, but ham is a surefire what i wanted that morning. the place is relatively more quite but i notice there are frequent customers as the cook/waiter knows the customers. Well after awhile my food come up, it looks simple as the hashbrown was put on the side and the egg benedict have hollandaise sauce flowing on top. first cut, the egg is still runny as what i have expected from an egg benedict, the first bite of the combination of muffin, ham, egg benedict and the holandaise sauce is perfect. love it. and the hashbrown is more like a made shredded potato, and it's crispy, definitely love it as well.

overall i really do like the price, i still find the price slightly more than what i would like to pay, but i would definitely come back for the egg benedict.

Picked up 2 BELT Sandwiches this morning to go...WOW!!! Diner fresh made right fresh bacon slices egg and veggies. Made well..definitely getting the BELT sandwich again
Nom.nom.nom.
The ham Benny and hashbrowns were very tasty and flavorful! Definitely one of the best. I tried the jimmys burger and it was good but not the best. Cute Korean diner that's self sested, pay first and help yourself to your own coffee refills type joint. Both breakfasts and a coffee was only less than 25$ with tip. Definitely one of coq best brunch spots!
--------Jan 2/16 update: still good lol. House special Benny came is ham Benny with extra toppings like mushroom bacon and green onions. Bf got the fish and chips and it was crispy and tender. Nice big flakes of fish. Both plus a coffee was $30. One of the good breaky places to try in coq!

I saw the rating of this restaurant for having brunch was very high, so I visited the restaurant today. The restaurant looked old without any fancy decorations. I wouldn't mind the decorations or environments as long as the food was good.

The restaurant is running by a bunch of Korean people. A few of them cooked or helped out in an open kitchen. One of them washed dishes. One was a cashier. There were many varieties of food for us to choose on the menu.

I ordered a dish of black stone benny with bacons, eggs, ham, green onions, and cubes of tomatoes. I was a bit disappointed because the eggs were VERY small!! Comparing to the benedicts I had in Vancouver or Greater Vancouver, I paid a little bit more to get a better quality and quantity! One of the cooks or helpers in the kitchen said she would give me ketchup, but I never got it. I had to steal some ketchup from another table after the customers left. Geez..

My mom ordered a BELT sandwich with soup. The sandwich arrived but we kept waiting for the soup. Then I went to the cashier and asked why the soup took very long. She said we didn't order the soup. I said we were 100% sure we ordered the soup because we read the whole title of the dish out loud when we paid for the meal at the counter. I told the cashier that we thought the soup was like a soup of the day and she never asked what kind of soup we like, so we thought that whatever came with the sandwich, we would take it and try it, because it was our first time to try this restaurant. Then the cashier said we had to tell them what type of soup we would like to order. I said gee... She never told us there were options of the soup on a black chalk board behind us!!! Then my mom picked a mushroom soup (1 of 4 options) and paid a little bit of extra for it.

My dad ordered ham, tomatoes and cheese sandwiches with soup. He was smart to ask what kind of soup the restaurant had. However, he ordered after a group of six customers. He waited for sooooo long for the food. I thought this was not acceptable. When I was almost finished my egg benny, he just started his meal!!

Overall, the service was bad. The food was the type that I could cook or make at home. I felt thirsty after I had the brunch. The food probably got high sodium or lots of MSG? It was good that it was not too expensive but i would still not mind to pay a bit more to get a better service and good quality. I will not go back to this restaurant as there are so many good ones out there! :)

Always good eats, really good breakfast and burgers. Friendly staff and not bad on the wallet. Wish they were open on Sunday's or later in the evenings

Seriously, how do people consider this place good? The hollandaise sauce was terrible. The mushrooms were undercooked. The shredded hash browns were mediocre. Must be a lot of 'friends' bumping this place into the 92% margin.

Yummy Breakfast. Good breakfast for a good price and the hashbrowns are DELISH!

One suggestion for them...you should stock sourdough bread, it's the best!
Somi On Food
There is a shopping plaza on North Road just south of Austin Street in Burquitlam, and in the far corner is a little diner jewel called Jimmy's Place serves up fresh bistro meals with a price that will make you want to dis the McDonald's situated just a block away.
Laughingman
Good Value. So you won't see this place on the food network... ever. But it's easy to overlook a restaurant doing a solid job at an excptionally good price. This is where Jimmy's shines. Although I must admit that I was happy with the Hasbrowns. Old scholl and done the way I like. Jut don't eat them after they get cold. The fat congeals and it is NOT the same experience.

Yuo can do far worse than being tuck for breakfast here.
Diego
Hash is the bomb. We come here often with our family. We are never disappointed. I've come to realize the Hash is seriously the best I have ever tried. I tried to duplicate it at home, but was nothing close to Jimmy's. Their hash taste like potato chips to me. We tried the Stone Benedict and I recommend that one! Good, clean and friendly service!

Never let me down. This is a line up order seat yourself diner. They serve your typical fare here. Burgers !Salisbury steak ,beef dip ,soup and sandwich,Pancakes ect ect. I really like this place. The burgers are hand packed and the ingredients all work together. Jimmy's special is a favorite of mine. Chopped bacon into melted cheese a great beef patty on a great bun . Some of the best old school stick to your ribs fries in the lower mainland. Big thick cut fries with the outside perfectly dry and crispy the inside light and fluffy. Portion size is very good. Breakfasts are also great. The beef dip is a healthy serving of nicely done roast beef on a nice bun with fries or salad. There is nothing complex here .no nouvea fusion cuisine just old school diner food done properly. One of my favorite places a dying breed . Keeping it real and carrying on a tradition, staff are moderately friendly and courteous.
Eat. Drink. Relax
Clubhouse sandwich was dry and tasteless. Maybe I should've tried the breakfast items, but I tried the clubhouse sandwich instead and was extremely dissapointed. Turkey was dry and lacked flavour. Cream of mushroom soup tasted canned like - just plain salty. probably won't be back again because of my first experience there.

Clean, great tasting food. Love the pictures of food on the wall (I'm gonna try every one). No better breakfast/sandwich place in this area. Killer beef dip.
Genevieve Queen Of Eating
It's a greasy spoon without a whole lot of charm. Food was adequate but nothing to write home about.
Buddy_love
Good but nothing special. Not sure why people thought this place was hard to find - it was easy to find! Right next to the now defunct Petcetera. The coffee was fine, nothing special. The food was fresh, generous portions, odd pricing though.

My sweetie had the eggs blackstone and liked it except the english muffin wasn't toasted enough and her plate was cold so her breakfast got cool pretty fast.

I had a ham, onion and mushroom omelette and it was good. What can I say? It was fresh and hot and it filled me up. Not crazy about shredded hash browns as a rule, but they were cooked just fine.

If we are in the neighbourhood and we need breakfast or lunch fuel, it is an acceptable option.

Always satisfied. Delicious, well made, quality diner food. Mainly go for breakfasts, the eggs benny is my favorite. The french toast is a balance of fluffy, soft goodness.
Fast and friendly service.

Exceptional food, resonalbley priced.
Will definitely go back

Awesome breakfast. OMG! Best breakfast I've ever had in my life.

I feel like the owner is writing all the reviews. If you do end up going here you will see what I mean... A very mediocre breakfast place.

Throughout time and space, the quest for the ultimate supernova of taste explosion has been a never ending ballad. We found that flavor-supernova today. It was a day like any other, until jimmy and his place changed us forevermore. The grilled onion, bacon, cheddar burger was so beautifully crafted it made me weep. We loved this place of Jimmy's...and you will too.

Hands down best restaurant in Burnaby/Tri-Cities. Great food, awesome staff.

Hidden Gem. Discovered this tucked away restaurant after reading the blogs - WOW. The breakfast was delicious and very reasonable. Greeted as we walked in & as we left. Will definitely be going back to try lunch. Love the "diner" feel !

They do have a debit machine FYI.

MMMMMMM good!. I had the Jimmy's Special Burger. It was really delicious. You can tell the meat is not only fresh, but probably hand pressed just before it was placed on the griddle. Honestly when the plate comes out, it didn't look like anything special. Then i munched on a fry, and OMG, best beefsteak fries ever. Perfect crisp on the outside, and the potato practically melts in your mouth. Comes out without salt so you can control how much you want. (i dont like salt at all, so this is a huge bonus). For a mere couple of dollars more than the mcdonalds meal up the street, this is definitely worth the value you pay. Can't wait to try their breakfast!!!! (they don't take credit card, but they did take my debit card.) :)

Adorable family run diner. I came here for lunch with a friend- we were on a mission to find the best burger in Coquitlam. Jimmy's is tucked away in a big strip mall on Northroad- it took some searching to find it, but locals assured us it was worth it!

When we walked in to Jimmy's Place I was immediately reminded of a diner we used to go to when I was growing up. A very kind and patient lady took our order at the counter. Make sure you remember that Jimmy's is cash only! Wouldn't want to walk away sad and grouchy like one of the other reviewers ;)

While my friend ordered i googled at the impressive cook grilling what looked like a dozen different meals at the same time- fluffy omelettes, pancakes and juicy burgers with sauteed onions and cheese. Yum!

We seated ourselves at a funny little booth and surveyed what the other patrons were eating. Lots of breakfasts! Made a note to come back for breakfast stat. Lunch arrived at our table shorty. I really liked the big steak cut fries and my burger tasted home made with lots of love.

I was very happy to see a little family spot like Jimmy's (and way out in Coquitlam, no less) was ranked #34 for breakfast places in Vancouver. Go Jimmy's Place, go!

Good Breakfast
No Dessert Im Full
Tucked away in a plaza on north road, walking up to the place I peer inside and see that its 3/4 full, good sign, lets do this. Its a diner style joint, so we walk up and place our orders, aside from the food taking almost 20 minutes to arrive, its also breakfast time so I want my food right away! The everything omelette was delicious, fresh veggies with a good balance egg mix, with some hot melted cheddar on top, it was very good.

Yummy bennys!. Bennys are great here! The chef treated me with breakfast art! Supercute! (See uploaded pic)They fry the hashbrowns with cheese and flatten it out, creates this crispy texture. My bf had the pancakes and they were nice and fluffy. Solid diner dive fare. Hope try the burgers next time :)

Turned off. Visited Jimmy's Place today and initially liked the environment and menu selection. Food that the other patrons ordered looked good. However when we were about to order, we found out that it was cash only. So we did not order, left and did not return.

Honestly it is 2011 and convenience is key to the customer. Very few people carry cash and if a business doesn't see the benefit of using Interact and/or credit transactions they are losing business and falling behind the times.
Thumbsup
Fantastic Burger in Town!. Soooo tasty. I love Jimmy's Special Burger. It's my favorite. Their patties are homemade and so juicy. Also fries are perfectly crispy and golden brown. I've also tried their Club House Sandwich, it was simply amazing! They put 'REAL' turkey flakes.(It must be lots of work...)
Jimmy's Place always put the whole mind to their diches.
It's fresh and delicious! Hope they would be located nearby so we go more often!

AWESOME Breakfast, BRUNCH & Burgers!!!. This place is incredible! Their black stone eggs benny and spicy jimmy burger or heavenly burgers are amazing. Such attention to detail - every plate is perfectly set!

Try this place if you love breakfast food and burgers!!!
Ingrid
Homemade goodness. Jimmy's Place is my favourite home-style restaurant I've ever been to. From Breakfast to Lunch, every menu item is perfectly made with a homemade feel to every bite. Ingredients are always fresh and staff is extremely warm and friendly! I definitely recommend this restaurant to ANYONE, from kids to seniors I think every dish is worth every cent. I'd love to see Jimmy's Place open for Dinner - that would be the cherry on top of the cake!

The BEST burgers in Coquitlam. Love Love Love this place. I can't get enough of it. I tried their Blackstone Bennie and their Jimmy's Special Burger. Only went there twice, but the two times that I went with my hubby, we both just loved it. Their burgers patties are homemade and so flavourful. Their fries and hashbrowns are fried perfectly. The outside is always golden and crispy and the inside is super fluffy and soft. If they didn't close on Sundays, we'd be going there every week after church. :)
At first, the prices seem expensive, but you are definitely paying for superior quality of food. This place has ruined me for all bennies and burger joints. :O

WOW. Just ate the "House Special" Benedict. Amazing. Fresh grated hash browns complimented these amazing loaded Eggs Benedict. They are pricy at $12.95 but are worth every penny. Dinner style with Bistro food, Jimmys is worth a visit for breakfast for sure. I may go back for lunch tommorrow cause I am too full to try today.
MISS VANCOUVER PIGGY
I like the hollandaise sauce since it is really light, the eggs are overcooked and the english muffin is soggy.
Vancouver's Best Burger
Jimmy's Place is a no frills kind of cafe. Walk in, place your order, pay, and wait for your food. Friendly staff and your basic bay of booths line the walls. No need for fancy in a strip mall.
Ohnaturelle
...Jimmy’s Place is my favourite place for breakfast in Coquitlam. The staff are quite friendly, and all the food is freshly homemade, with low prices. I guess the main con is that the food is a little bland, but it’s nothing a little pepper and/or ketchup won’t fix. Oh, they also only accept cash and debit as forms of payment, so if you’re dependent on your MasterCard or Visa, make sure to drop by an ATM before you go!
Robin
This place have a really big menu, much of it are very similar to each other. But their items aren’t cheap, however prices are reasonable. You would pay about the same price as you would at the food court. Some of their breakfast items are significantly cheaper than most breakfast places.
Penny And Rusty
There's a large chalkboard of the various menu items at the counter along with some pictures of the dishes scattered around the diner. I decided to opt for the Blackstone Benedict which came served on a huge plate

Jimmys Place Restaurant is my go-to place for breakfast in Coquitlam. They have an assortment of Eggs Bennies, Sandwiches, Burgers and other breakfast items. M and I have been coming here for years and it’s owned by a Korean family. You wouldn’t expect it when you first look at the place.

It's incredible how the weather has turned in Vancouver. The past holiday weekend was rainy and cool, and there Jimmy’s Place is one of those small, old-fashioned diners that you’d find back in the day, where faces are familiar and the cook says ‘hi’ to y
