Review Woomai Sushi Japanese Restaurant - Chilliwack

Tammy Wojcik
Best sushi we've had in the Fraser Valley. We've been coming for years - I'm partial to their spicy black dragon roll and my husband loves their Snow White roll. Excellent, sincere service. Nice atmosphere if you choose to dine in. Honestly, we can't even imagine anyone saying an unkind word about this place!

Miso soup was just beef broth and it tasted old. I use to come here all the time but the food is not good anymore.

Ordered 2x sets of avocado rolls (8 pieces each) and 1 of kappa roll (8 pieces). The rolls were delicious, well made and inexpensive. Best price in Chilliwack for sushi rolls. They even put in two deep fried yam rolls free of charge to try which were also pretty good. We have been here many times and love this sushi restaurant, it is the best in the Fraser Valley and perhaps even beyond. Thank you Woo Mai!!

First they didnt change their prices on the menu and the order came up double the price it should of been. Secondly they gave us stuff we didn't even ordered. Third, and most importantly, it literally was the worst sushi I've ever had.. Don't recommend you get anything deep fried as it comes out burnt and not edible. Not even the California rolls tasted good. Do not recommend wasting your money.

Worst place I have been for sushi and service ...apparently you are not allowed to share a large beer and have Sake at the same time....only allowed 1 or the other

What a treat, delicious, hot, fresh food at reasonable prices. Was even given a deep fried tuna roll on the house! Woman on the phone was extremely polite and friendly in person. I wish we could have dined inside because the decor and atmosphere is amazing but due to covid I completely understand. Will happily order from again.

Hard to eat here when they don't open for lunch! Tried two days to come here, and closed midweek. 🤷‍♂️ How about sticking to your posted hours?

Very good service. Very polite. Generous food portions too. I like it because its so close and its not too expensive. It's better than most in town though not the best.

Went here last year after a funeral. The food was good , service was great after hearing as to why our group was there. I have only been here once and since I live in Surrey, it is hard to make a sound judgement on one visit due to sad reasons for the visit. More comments to come.

My wife and I went to this location wile consoling a family following the loss of a loved one. Despite the circumstances surrounding the visit I noted the service was prompt and efficient, the ambiance was great, and the Sushi was the best I have had anywhere.

Decent. I've ate at Woo Mai many times and I've always had different experiences. Usually I get my food quite efficiently, a couple times it took longer then expected but it happens. The food is always pretty good, the only thing I would say is that the veggie roll is very expensive and doesn't taste very good. My favourite is the tofu teriyaki, the serving is generous and it's always delicious. I would recommend Woo Mai only for take out, the restaurant can get quite busy and sometimes there's only one waitress so wait time can be longer.

This was my second visit to Woo Mai and once again I was very pleased with the food and service. The staff is friendly and on top of taking care of the needs of the table. They have a wonderful menu with so many options. I will definitely be back and will pass on my wonderful experience :)

Been here lots in the past, first time back in about six months and something has changed. And sadly not for the better. I will be going somewhere else from now on

Yummy and friendly staff. Never eaten in here, but I've ordered takeout sushi quite a few times, and the quality and portion sizes are always excellent. The staff is always very polite and friendly both in person and on the phone.

Excellent value. I was surprised at the large portions this restaurant offers.

The $15 Chirashi B came with a whopping 8 pieces of wild sockeye salmon sashimi, 8 pieces of tuna sashimi, 8 pieces of red snapper sashimi, 8 pieces of scallop, and more. It was the greatest amount of sashimi I had ever seen in a chirashi don served at any restaurant I have been to (they usually have 2 pieces of each kind of sashimi instead of 8). It also came with a miso soup and a salad. The quality of the sashimi was fairly good and is unbeatable for the price.

The Salmon Teriyaki lunch bento box, at $11, also provides great value for those who prefer cooked food. It comes with six pieces of california roll and five pieces of deep fried roll of some kind, as well as salad, miso soup, teriyaki grilled salmon, tempura (including two shrimp). The oil used for the tempura was fresh and it was not greasy.

The waitstaff were friendly and the atmosphere was very good. The food arrived quickly, although this could be because the restaurant was fairly empty at that time. The restaurant is very spacious. The chef seems to be an actual Japanese, which is generally a good sign that the Japanese food is of good quality.

Note: The Chirashi A, which is 70% of the price, only seems to have less than 50% of the contents of the Chirashi B.

Nice people but very slow service. Miso soup was too salty. Spicy means that there is saracha sauce on everything. Poor portioning and overly priced for OK at best. Over 5 $ for the grilled squid dish and for only a few over cooked slivers. Not very impressed. Bill came out to 24 $ for squid, a roll, 2 miso soup and agedashi tofu with very small portioning for squid and agedashi tofu.

Just WOW! Service, atmosphere and food all get top marks!. The first time I went to WooMai was for my 4 year old daughters birthday (the fact that my 4 year old CHOSE sushi for her birthday lunch should tell you how much sushi my family eats). We loved the private booths, the menu is huge, the staff is so friendly, they are completely happy to make substitutions on combos which other places usually charge like 50 cents to a dollar per piece for substitutions. I have to say growing up in Coquitlam and then moving to Chilliwack I have tried a TON of sushi restaurants, until now Sushi Town Coquitlam had been my favourite but now it is for sure WooMai. What really sold me was the look on my daughters face when they brought out a sushi birthday cake and sang happy birthday to her! (The "sushi cake" was a deep fried tuna roll piled up like a cake topped with sweet and mildly spicy sauces with a candle in the top, it was beautiful and she gobbled the whole thing up!) long story short I haven't gone anywhere else for sushi since April 18th and I eat sushi at least once a week :) LOVE WooMai

Awesome!. Ate at Woo Mai a couple of nights ago and it kicked ass as usual! Their food is always delicious and the chef almost always sends over complimentary food. I usually think about it for days afterwards! Woo mai is some of the best Sushi I have ever had and their prices are nice and low. If I had to complain about anything, it would be that the service can be a little slow at times but I am willing to overlook it because the food is so good! I am always recommending them to people I know.

Yum will eat here- again and again..... Great food and great service along with wonderful atmosphere

No farmed salmon here!. All natural, fresh and made on the premises. James and his staff are like coming home to family and he will usually include a special surprise treat no charge.

Keep up the good work.
Foodbaby
No thank you.. We took our japanese exchange student there and she explained to us "woo mai" means tasty in japanese. We all left in agreement - it was not so "woo mai".
Japanese food is not supposed to be greasy.

Woomai sushi is by far the best sushi restaurant I have been to in the lower mainland! The owner uses all fresh ingredients and makes everything from scratch and unlike the other sushi restaurants who used farmed salmon Woomai sushi uses fresh wild Sockeye salmon!! Defiantly the best sushi place I've been to and they will continue to have my business :)
