Review Royal Hotel Cafe - Chilliwack

Was keen on visiting here since reading article in local newspaper. Service was slow but only one server working. Wasn’t too concerned as she was very attentive to each seated customer and very interactive regarding the menu and answering questions. Prices too steep for local area in my opinion. 18.00 for hashed potatoes and beef, this seemed a bit much. My husband had grilled cheese and small tomato soup. However, order was not what was ordered, soup was cold and fried egg looked like it sat under a broiler. Server was apologetic and did take pop off bill. ( we did not ask) but a nice touch. Unfortunately, prices too high, quality is lacking. We will not be returning.

Heard a lot of buzz about this place so have it a try for labour day breakfast. Pleased that it wasn't very busy but it took a bit longer than expected for our food to come. And when you have a sassy 2 year old, that becomes an issue. Food was good, but a bit bland in my opinion. Portions and prices good but would have appreciated a coffee refill, especially being a parent of said sassy 2 year old 😉 I'd return again but wasn't the best breakfast I've ever had.

UPDATE: I emailed management as requested below and provided details of my experience. It was investigated immediately as promised, and they quickly identified the issue that led to my experience. I believe that was addressed, and I was personally invited back to give them a second chance. I can say with confidence at this point that in spite of my experience, I was seriously impressed by the speed with which they responded, the empathy and concern expressed by management, as well as their committment to finding the issue, taking action to address it, and efforts to make it right with me as a customer. I'll definitely give them a second chance... As stated below, the issue had nothing to do with the quality of the food. I'm adjusting my rating at this point to reflect management's exceptional efforts to address this, and look forward to seeing the difference on my next visit. Thanks! ---------- Walked in at 9:55 for breakfast, ordered an omelette. Waited until 10:40 before finally walking out as my beverage had gone cold and there was no still no sign or indication my order was coming, or had even been started for that matter. Unfortunate as the food is usually pretty good. My time is valuable and I was on a schedule, not sure I'll take the chance getting stuck waiting in there again. I work in the area, alternate choices are abundant. Walked 5 minutes down the street to a competitor, ordered breakfast, had it in front of me in under 10 minutes. If they'd at least given me an ETA on my order, if it wasn't going to be much longer, and maybe offered a discount to compensate for my lost time, I might have stayed.

Excellent place to go for great food, a lively atmosphere, and a reasonably priced meal. They don't take reservations and we had a show to go to afterwards, so we decided to sit at the counter(we were offered a table during our meal but were comfortable so we stayed there). We had a couple of appetizers: cheese filled dates & a crispy croquette, french onion soup, and tuna with greens.

We have been here a couple of times now. I am so impressed with how fresh everything is. The servers are very friendly and helpful with suggestions of new things to try. I have tried the crab cakes and they are SO good. The fried kale they are served on is a treat for sure and very yummy. I have also tried the fried chicken and this is a must eat as far as I am concerned. Crispy and not greasy at all - best fried chicken in this town and I am never going anywhere else when the craving strikes! Highly recommend trying this place out if you are downtown Chilliwack. The location is not ideal for people who live in Sardis but it is worth the drive for sure!

The food here is so good I am happy I live across town or I would be here every day! Loving the new menu with southern flair. The crab cakes are fabulous and so is the fried chicken. The Monte Cristo sandwich is also a fave of mine. The chef is always baking something fresh and we tried the strawberry shortcake on Saturday and it was amazing!

Royal Café is an excellent place to eat. We love having a wonderful breakfast here with the heritage furnishings and friendly staff. The food is always fantastic too !...You've got to try the Royal Café....It's a wonderful experience !I asked her if the salmon on the Benny was the thin shaved smoked kind or regular salmon and she assured me it was the thin sliced kind.
