Review The Yellow Deli - Chilliwack

Jamie Learning
The Yellow Deli serves fresh healthy nourishing food that will make you feel great and hit the spot. The service is Country Style, if your in a hurry or demand immediate table service probably try somewhere else. The staff is very friendly and helpful, be kind to them, they are volunteers. They also have 'religious views' on the menu, however they never insist on you ordering these, it's your choice.

Delicious food, wholesome atmosphere and a Godly respectful group of men and women. The corn beef sandwich is amazing and the papaya drink is tasty. Everyone should eat at the Yellow Deli at least 10 times in their life. It's worth the visit. And the prices are extremely reasonable given that everywhere else prices have risen. God bless you Yellow Deli.

I would have given them 10 stars rating if I could for sure. It was absolutely worth one hour driving from Vancouver to Chilliwack to experience a local restaurant. Staffs were very friendly and professional and service was great. You can easily find wood, leather and stone being used for the interior design very uniquely. Quality and taste of the meal were off the chart. Everything was very clean and pleasant. I cannot recommend more strongly to give it a try and I guarantee it won't disappoint you.

I absolutely love this place. The curried yam soup is to die for, served with warm bread on the side. I had a sandwich as well, but ate it before I remembered to snap a picture. The warm onion bun was amazing, and the kettle chips on the side were great! I also really enjoyed the yerba mate tea - I had the Earl green and my husband had the vanilla chai latte.

All the food is fresh, tasty and very reasonably priced! A great place to go with kids ( my kids love the hot dogs) the staff are amazing and always go above and beyond . My favorites are the cranberry almond salad, the carrot cake, deluxe honey bun, and any soup of the day !

The food is good, but it is the ambiance that makes this place amazing. Almost like a cross between a subtle version of the 60’s Jesus Movement and Hobbit Town. Just go there to find out. You won’t regret it. Nice people. They will take good care of you. I especially like the Deli Rose and the Turkey sandwiches. Lots of good comfort food on the menu though, so there’s a lot to choose from.

Visiting from Manitoba, we went for a mountain hike near Cultus Lake and worked up an appetite. We were looking for a soup and sandwhich place nearby and were recommended this place. It did not disapoint! Had the Deli Lamb sandwhich and a bowl of Butternut Squash soup. It was fantastic, and the simple, rustic atmosphere was a pleasant bonus. Would love to come back!

Best soup and sandwich in this area!!! Everything is so fresh and tasty. Loved the Ruben Sandwich and the Yellow Submarine. Don’t walk out without grabbing a date square.

Its very basic and has a small menu. With that in mind it is pretty good. I'd suggest going in the middle of the night. The atmosphere is great and the music is interesting. The sandwiches are basic but using good ingredients. It's healthy and worth the money. Also if its 3am and you want food this is a good bet.

Have been thinking of going here for a while even though I thought something strange was going on. Now I'm watching Cult and Extreme Beliefs about the Twelve Tribes ...don't think I'll ever be going here, regardless of how good their sandwiches may be

Absolutely the best place for sandwiches and ambience. Great place to go with friends and family. All fresh produce used in sandwiches. Tastes great. Open 24 hours five days a week. If you are a sandwich crazy this is the place to go.

honestly some of the best food in town! not comparable to any other place offering sandwhiches- soups are great too. For desert you MUST have the strawberry cheesecake(cream cheese pie)- ablsolutely delicious. This is the place for a healthy, fresh, feel good Sandwich for Breakfast and quick lunch stop- you can either spent a few minutes hauling down the food, or spend hours there with your friends. Service is super nice- always very welcoming.

I'll start off with the decor, absolutely beautiful I find myself staring at everything I honestly just sit and soak up the place everytime I'm here. The Turkey rancher is my go to sandwich as well as the Yerba mate teas highly refreshing. I adore that they give you a little pot of honey if wanted way better than processed sugar. Banana milk is delicious as well.<br/><br/>Would like to see some sandwhich specials the menu never changes would be nice to come and try new dishes from them. Gets boring after a while.

Decent food if supporting an authoritarian patriarchal cult whose leader is quoted as saying: "N***** means black. When people first started saying this word it wasn't bad, but it became a curse word having bad connotations. Before the civil rights black men would say 'Yes, boss man' in the south. 'Yes man.' 'No man.' This was respect. We need respect in people. We must beat respect into our children(Yeah there been thoroughly investigated for child abuse all over the world too). Ham (their term for people of African descent) must get this respect in them. These blacks, during the pre-civil right time, were really slaves - they had respect for people. They got along well because they were submissive - submissive in their suffering."<br/><br/>Basically the leader thinks black people should still be slaves, approves of beating children with a rod for things as trivial as pretending to be an airplane or not raising their hands at dinner until they have blue bruises(blue marks is their special term for them), forbid free opinion that doesn't fit what their authoritarian leadership tells them/give up all decision making in their lives, and built an empire profiting off the free labour of its members.<br/><br/>If you have no moral qualms about that then bon appétit

Love this restaurant! Drove all the way from Vancouver to Chilliwack just to try out this restaurant I found online! Turns out it was better than I thought. The food was very tasty and fresh. The whole vibe felt very warm and country inspired. They even have a small grocer connected to the restaurant called the preserved seed where they sell organic goods. The store has spelt bread (which is bread without yeast) which they specialize in. Make sure to check it out next time your in Chilliwack!

Great place for a delicious, local and healthy meal. I love the cranberry almond salad. The best thing is the Preserved Seed sells both the dressing and the candied almonds next door! My favorite.

Decent food and coffee. My girlfriend like their coffee (since she's a coffee expert, I guess it means good). I had a sandwich and it was okay. I didn't personally like the atmosphere. I felt like I had to meditate and buy some grass...

Ate here last night for the first time! The food was pretty good, I got the Reuben sandwich and chilli. The sandwich was good, I didn't enjoy the chilli unfortunately. The menu is a little small, but place is cool looking inside and out. It was kind of a weird vibe, very straight faced and monotone staff. Overall was good, nothing spectacular. If you really like sandwiches you'll love this place.

I love the idea of this place, the warm feeling you get when you enter is great! Just wish they had a more creative menu. Sandwiches, chili, and a few other items like salads. Take a look at the menu at the NAAM, if they stepped up like this, i would be at the yellow deli all the time!!!

traveling 3 hours from Kelowna to Vancouver we stumbled upon this gem! Hands down one of the best chicken rolls I have ever had and I have had my share of chicken rolls! We liked it so much that we ordered a take away roll to eat on the rest of our journey!

Yummy! Excellent soups and sandwiches! Was introduced to this place by an old friend. Have been a few times and has become a favorite place in chilliwack.

Great spot around the corner! I take everyone who visits me to lunch here and it's become a favourite of all my friends and family when passing through. <br/><br/>If you're looking for hoity-toity, ritz and glamour, and sexed up servers who flirt for tips...this is absolutely NOT THE RIGHT PLACE!!!! <br/><br/>If you're looking for comfort, calm, quiet, and genuinely friendly (possibly shy— unless you actually speak with them) servers, who will bring you delicious home cooked food, and never make you feel rushed or unappreciated...you've absolutely come home here.

Love their deli rose at 3 am lol can't beat it. Don't think I ever had better service. Cute and cozy. Just wish the expanded/changed the menu once in a while.

Amazing. I have been going to yellow deli for about 5 years now and ot is as good now as it was then. You need to be very hungry to get the sandwich and bowl of soup/chili combo. If you happen to come across this place make it a must to stop in.
Rufus
Curried yam soup is amazing. However, the service leads me to believe that some of the cooks and servers suffer from debilitating mental disorders. You may have to wait 15 minutes for water and soup. If you get lucky and they experience a moment of lucidity, you may enjoy some delightful food.

Most Delightful !. When you first walk through that door, its a sense of harmony all around you. You don't yet realize it till you sit down and see these people interacting between each other and how they handle each person that arrives. They are very pleasant and warm people who want your meal to be everything you want it to be.. Fresh, tones of flavor and the sense of home all in one sitting. If you haven't been to the Yellow Deli before I would say, GO.. and you will be amazed at how peaceful and enjoying it is to sit at a table and look at the fine details of everything that they have built from the ground up and enjoying a meal that is bursting with flavor, and also just talking to them is very positive, uplifting and a real Joy.

The food is homemade and always awesome. The owners are super nice and treat me like family. Plus they are open nearly 24/7 makes a great after movie dinner.

Back to good food. The food is excellent, especially like the yam soup and the bread.I love the atmosphere as it is so cozy and nicely decorated, like some mountain place in Switzerland. Nothing fake . The dulcimer background music makes the experience even better and transfers you from your busy life to actually quiet down.Wish they had a couple more discs to play, or maybe some swiss folk music. Everyone is very nice and the service very attentive.

Interesting Atmosphere. Very down to earth team of servers. Well run family restaurant with exceptional sandwiches and soup. We are regulars every time we pass through Chilliwack.

Met my sister here tonight because it was a halfway point between Maple Ridge and Hope, and she said it was good. When I drove up I was not sure what to expect, and then I walked in and REALLY wasn't sure what to expect. I had never been to a place like this, it's one of a kind.<br/>I've never written a review before but because of how surprised I was I felt I had to. I ordered their daily soup, curry/yam delicious! We shared a rice bowl and had the daily dessert, a pumpkin crisp pie. Everything was awesome. I work in a restaurant and have for years so I appreciate good food. Oh, And they're open 24 hrs! Can't wait to go back.

Surprised. Got dragged in for a work lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The food was very good and the service was good. Definitely not my kind of atmosphere (being an old biker) but you can't argue with good food. <br/><br/>Try the chili .. it's great.
Sandra
Unique & cozy atmosphere. Staff is super friendly. The curry yam soup is my favorite & it comes with tasty spelt bread. Another fave of mine is the cranberry salad. A half size portion is extremely generous & filling.

Hippies, Yippies!!. Guys! The best and only steamed tofu sandwich in the Fraser Valley, for sure!! I had it the 3 times that I went there. The first time was like a 'Revelation' or something Far-Out, Man! It came on sliced rye bread and piping hot right from the steamer... The second time, it was on a bun, good too but I prefer the rye slices. The specials' of the day soups were deadly (and I mean goooood!) on the 3 occasions. <br/><br/>Now, let's talk about the decor: OMG! Theses Masters Carpenters and Artists have it right down to the impressive murals of 'Haight Ashbury' cool area of the 1960's San Francisco days. ('Frisco' for the locals and all hippies). The creativity does not stop there. You just cannot stop looking around at the live happy-go-lovin' hippies walking around and taking care of you and their fantastic works of art all over the place!! Way to go Hippies!! (I love Hippies, so calm, subtle, artistic and lovin', of course...) And then there is the muted lighting and ... the big stone fireplace with real wood, Chilliwack!!<br/><br/>If on the Island, be sure to visit the smaller sister restaurant"Common Grounds" in Courtenay... Hip, hip, hip, Hippies!!

Hands down the BEST restaurant I've ever been too. If you appreciate GREAT food, wholesome, home made...and very affordable. The only down side is they will ruin any other restaurant from now on, cause nothing compares to the deli! Seriously the best food and service. I'm proud to have this place local!!!

Delish!. The atmosphere of Yellow Deli is cozy with a fire burning in the corner and homemade looking funiture and cushions. The staff are very calm and friendly, and the food is amazing. I had the curried yam soup and turkey sandwich I was full and satisfied, I ordered to go and it took about 10 minutes with them being busy so the wait wasn't too bad either. Looking forward to going back!

Fantastic and mellow. The food was wonderful, friend and I shared their yam curry soup and we had the turkey rancher for the main. Gods was it awesome! I am in love with that soup and pretty sure its my favourite food to date, period. From anywhere. The staff were sweet, and the calm, mellow atmosphere suited the food wonderfully. Prices are very very fair too, would go daily if I could!

Wholesome food with macram. Walking in you begin to wonder if you stepped back a few decades to the early 1970s with bearded staff, the macramé at the front door, and the wooden decor. Service was pretty good, fast, and accurate. The staff were very accommodating to some dietary needs and when the food arrived is was sumptuous. If only every sandwich place made rubens as nice The Yellow Deli does. Our son enjoyed his peanut butter and banana sandwich. Will definitely be coming back.

Slow but good. Great healthy wholesome food, but sometimes take a while. Not good if you have a limited lunch break, but if you have time to wait, it's usually worth waiting for!

Everything about this Place is excellent . Sometimes it seems long for the food to come but I'll wait since it's being prepared fresh!

Authentic Hippie Food. This restaurant is owned and operated by a really friendly group of hippie commune people (no, I'm not kidding). The food is wholesome and full of flavour and the spelt bread they sell is officially the best wheat free bread I have ever had ( and I've tried them all). Try the flavoured iced teas in the summer or one of their coffee creations in winter. Thumbs up!
