Review Seahorses Cafe - Central Saanich

We arrived as brunch was happening. We had the Salmon Eggs Benny and the Seahorse Benny. OMG, both food items (and dessert) were amazing. I'm glad I don't live in Brentwood or I'd leave all my $$$ at this cafe. We would definitely return when back in this area. Thank you.

Had a excellent lunch today. Very friendly service and food was awesome. The cafe has amazing views as well. One of the rare places left that actually serve real French fries. Will definitely be back for more. Well I went back for more. Second time was just as good as the first time. Service is awesome the food very much enjoyed by wife and I. My beef burger very moist. Poutine any Quebecer would tell their friends about. Wife finished her salmon burger before I finished mine so thumbs up there too. Always take home their seafood chowder it is amazing.

Perfect spot for lunch after walking thru Butchart Gardens! Open-to-air, shaded seating looking over the harbor, smallish but tasty menu with fresh drinks. Yum!

Loved everything about this wonderful little restaurant. Out door seating along the quiet little ferry terminal and absolutely amazing food. We had the pulled pork sandwich (no coleslaw because of dietary restrictions) with yam fries and chicken sandwich with soup of the day (broccoli cheddar). A little on the expensive side but well worth it!

This place on a sunny day is amazing! The food is tasty and the prices are okay but the vibes are spectacular. The parking is a little funky and it might be difficult to find it for the first time, but it’s definitely worth it. The only thing is that they only have drip coffee instead of espresso beverages (latte, mocha, etc).

Very busy, but charming lunch spot! Food was quite good and beautiful setting. I could eat here every day! Not sure how varied the menu gets, but sandwiches were good! Hope I can get back!

Delicious lunch at this cafe. It was quite busy around 2:00 but we were able to get a nice table on the deck/patio with a nice view of the water and mountains. The drinks were delicious, we agreed it was the best long island iced tea we've ever had. The crab cake appetizer was delicious; hot and fresh - the salad that came with it was huge!!! But again, the veggies were fresh and tasted great. The chicken burger was good (it came with a deep dried pickle, which was not to my taste) and the shrimp wrap with avocado was fantastic ... it was so big I was sad I couldn't finish it. To top it off, they were out of the daily soup so I was offered the free upgrade for their seafood chowder... it was amazing! The server was friendly and attentive to our needs.

I have been to this gem a few times with family. This was a treat for a friend's birthday lunch. When we showed up the place was packed however we were told there were several current customers who had paid their bill and were expected to leave shortly. We were seated outside as we waited for a table which was less than 10 minutes. Once the table was cleared we were welcomed inside. It was a little cloudy and windy for sitting outside this day. Our waitress greeted us and quickly took our beverage orders along with our lunch order. The food was freshly prepared and arrived quickly. My friend enjoyed the Lettuce wraps while I enjoyed the Mermaid Wrap. The atmosphere is lovely at the Seahorse as you are right by the water. Dessert choices are fabulous and we each took a treat home for our hubby. I highly recommend this great little spot. Reservations are suggested. #seahorsecafe

Have loved this restaurant since the first time we went. The food and service is amazing. A special shout out to Avery who has been our waitress since we have been going there. A lovely lady who always makes us feel special

Great place for Sunday brunch on the water.

Peaceful location, service was very kind and accommodating. My son got to go kayaking from the restaurant. Would highly recommend this place for a bite to eat and watching the ferry come in.

Wonderful tucked away cafe with tables overlooking the water. We enjoyed our Chicken Caesar wrap and seafood chowder. Very friendly service, and even rented self service kayaks at a great price!

We went for dinner last night. They have a great little location right on the water. What a shame the food didn't live up to the great location. I think it has changed hands since we last went. We ordered "crab cakes" as an appy. I'm pretty sure they were not made from scratch, maybe bought in previously frozen and there was maybe one speck of crab, the rest filler. I had the fish and chips. Too much batter on the fish and the chips were a mixture of soggy and over cooked. The oil they were cooked in must be old as the fries had a funky taste. The service was dismal. We weren't even asked if we wanted a drink! Too bad because this could be a great little cafe especially this time of the year when people are looking for a nice outdoor setting.

NOT RECOMMENDED! Dreadful service. Waited over 20min just to get contact with waitress and no driinks were offered until we asked after about 1/2 hour. Food took over 1.5 hours to arrive, and was cold when it arrived! Overpriced, VERY POOR service, mediocre food...salmon burger for $18 was served on a soggy white bun and when it arrived the order was mixed up (salad instead of fries). And to top it off, the bill was wrong! (we were charged for a chicken burger instead of a wrap)! Nice view, but this is the WORST SERVICE I have had in a very long time. Sorry. Nice view/location is wasted by lack of proper attention to the customer, and lack of decent food.

Over priced, bad service.. My boyfriend and I went to go get a bite to eat at the seahorse cafe. Was the worst costumer service ive experienced in a long time. We orderd the poutine ( the fries were under cooked). When I mentioned nicely to the ( believed to be owner) she kept making excuses and looked at me like I was stupid. Very rude, got a rude look as we left as well. I think its good to give nice feed back to a resturant. I would never recommend this place to any body. On top of that way too over priced.

Worst place I've been. Seahorse Cafe is the worst cafe I've ever been to. I've been to establishments all over the peninsula and never once was I treated ao poorly. It's been around 6 months since I was there last and I still can't forget the rude remarks I recieved from this place. If you want to enjoy a meal, go to bbl

How bad can it get!. Beautiful day for a lunch by the water after a bike ride unfortunately a good lunch was not to be had- service was unbelievably slow but we were finally offered drinks-upon requesting what beer was on tap-were informed all the tap beer was warm! What? Along weekend and only Sat. The bottled beer was nicely chilled when it finally arrived. After almost 1/2 hour food appeared -although we ordered an apetizer and burger it all came at once-the flatbread was barely grilled and had want appeared to be Philadelphia herbed cream cheese -one small piece of smoked salmon and 2 rather oddlooking fried capers. The salmon burger-salmon was very dry and only a hint of sauce on the bun even that was tasteless. There was , however, an amazing amount of lettuce -more like a side salad-which was thrown on top. The fries were seriously undercooked-verging on raw and doused with a weird salt. Paprika-I edible. Our server never appeared to ask how the food was-we requested another beer but were told they were out of both kinds we had ordered-all this and warm tap beer as well? We had to go inside to wait for the bill! Am I in France?? All in all a very disappointing experience for two locals who like to support our area. Never again!

Close - but the cigar got soggy somewhere along the line. Great little spot with almost everything going for it...but we noticed many small signs of neglect that suggested that perhaps the owner was away, new/inexperienced, or short on cash.

While the food was impeccably presented, it seemed to have been crafted by someone with a minimalist agenda in terms of protein portions.and sauce/flavour- or someone on a diet. The quesadilla had so little cheese it looked like cheese sprinkles instead of what one might expect. And the chicken pieces were very parsimoniously applied - a couple of quesadilla slices (of the 4) had only 1 small wedge (approx 1.5" x .75" x 3/16's) of chicken each. Seriously..? For a dinner it was underwhelming. The chicken wrap with similar small chicken bits was 90% wrap, 10% (or less chicken) which made for a cardboard experience. Dry and lacking in savory-ness.

Now just hoping the owner develops a renewed focus on tummy satisfaction (flavour and portions) vs the photo op eye candy. That would return this hidden gem to its righteous place in my list of go to spots on the Peninsula.

Dinner was poor- uninteresting menu choices.servers both were new or inexperienced. Wrong wine delivered; didn't give the full pour of the caraf had to ask for it back. Water on the table was warm. Vases all had dead leaves/flowers. Where was the management?? Never again- and we love this location- too bad

Great location, nice staff..... Good quality. Not so good.
Chowder: potato not fully cooked
Scone: dry, not fresh and at $5.85 too expensive. Great location. Have tea or coffee.
Rob
Good food at a fair price. Understaffed and slow service. Great if you have time to enjoy the view

Pleasant spot on the water. Outdoor dining on the water beside the Mill Bay ferry dock.
Good food on a recent lunch - excellent bacon cheeseburger and a cold-smoked salmon quesadilla that worked very well. Both came with choice of soup, pan fries or salad. We went with salad, which had a nice lemon vinaigrette dressing, a welcome change from heavier dressings dumped on greens at many places.
Not a bargain, but not expensive. Two beers and the meals came to $34 before taxes.
The only knock was the wait for food. Not the server's fault; she was handling too many tables, and the kitchen seemed similarly understaffed.

Now serving Thai food. I thought it was very very good.

Dislike. Food was mediocre, service wasn't given promptly, wasn't worth what i paid for.
Eating In Vancouver
There’s something something for everyone at Seahorses Cafe. Sit on the patio and soak up the sunshine while you sip you favourite beverage and admire the views of the bay. You can find local Vancouver Island beer on tap and a selection of red and white wine. Here are just some of a few of the delicious food options you can enjoy: Albacore Tuna Sandwich ($16) – Seared rare tuna with lettuce, tomato, avocado, salsa, and roasted garlic, arugula, pesto on a multigrain bun. Served with a choice of house fries or house salad. Local Catch Burger (market price) – Pan seared seasonal fish (halibut, rock cod, steelhead, or sockeye) with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and red onion on a toasted brioche bun (from a local favorite, Portofino Bakery). Served with house salad on the side. Rock Crab & Shrimp Bake ($15) – Shrimp and crab meat baked in a rich cream sauce with sweet peppers, spinach, and green onion. This bake is accompanied by warm flatbread on the side. Beer Battered Local Catch (market price) – Seasonal fish dipped in Vancouver Island Brewery beer batter, then deep-fried to a golden brown. Served with crispy home fries and creamy house made tartar sauce. Seahorses Cafe 799 Verdier Ave
