Review Dicks Fish & Chips - Campbell River

It started with no parking. Have to go to the parking lot across the street. Had battered oysters and they were so soggy that I had a difficult time eating them. Batter was left behind. You are served in cardboard bowls. No silverware. Plastic forks were on the table. Nice lady brought me a plastic knife when she saw that I couldn't eat it. This should really be a take out fast food place. Chairs and tables are pretty worn out. No table service.

Friendly staff, fast service and very delicious food! I ordered one piece of halibut and let me tell you it was very tender and juicy! It was perfect. I took my order for takeout by the water since they didn't have dine in option.

Fast and friendly service, comfy fish and chips. I mentioned sitting outside (I was originally planning to just go to a bench nearby) and they promptly set up a table and chairs for me. First time trying fried oysters (I'm visiting from a landlocked province). They were delicious and I am glad I had the opportunity to come by.

Fish and chips were great. Loved how they were presented in a cone that fits perfectly into the holes in their tables. Nice view of the wharf from the window. Friendly staff. Enjoyed the experience and recommend

I absolutely love the customer service. The portion of the meal is absolutely the taste absolutely so good so fresh and over what you pay for. My experience has always been really good here I definitely recommend going there. If you're craving fish and chips. I always go for the cod, I seen a picture of their golden retriever and it brought back so many memories when they were on the water. Their dog was so sweet and gentle may she rest in peace.

We had dinner here. Huge portions of food. We had the battered salmon, cod and popcorn shrimp with fries and a side of pan fried oysters. Yummy! Staff were super friendly as well.

This salmon burger is so tasty. Love the buns, sauce and especially the fresh salmon. Did the baked salmon, not fried so it wouldn’t be too much fried stuff. The portion makes you full for sure. Fries are nicely not too oily. Go down to the bay across the street and eat it... the best lunch ever!!

Me and my family tried the cod and halibut, and both were delicious but it was pretty soggy, I did have it right as it came out. I had the chips that came with it were crispy and soft in the inside. The vinegar on the side made the food even better. We also ordered the poutine and it is definitely one of the best I have ever had. The gravy was salty and savory and the cheese curds were so good. However there weren't alot of cheese curds on ours. I should also add the portions are giant. The customer service was very good too, and it was a down to earth restaurant.

We stopped there because we heard they served gluten free food from their dedicated fryer. Our son has celiac disease, and today was the first time in four years he had French fries and deep fried fish from a restaurant. Your kind and friendly staff made sure we had a great lunch. Thank you so much!

I never write reviews on food but was so unsatisfied with the meal I had I felt compelled to write something. The food left a lot to be desired but was a good portion size for the price. The coleslaw was very bland, the fish and fries were lukewarm and very soggy. Ive had fish and chips all over the world and after the hype on this restaurant was very disappointed at the meal I had! I will stick to Miki's sushi everytime I visit Campbell.

Amazing fish and chips served in a newspaper cone with extra tartar sauce, extremely good coleslaw and a fun, vibe atmosphere. The halibut, cod and salmon are all made to perfection. We have had some of the world's the best fish & chips in PEI, our home, but this beats all of those !! Well done Dicks!!

I moved to Campbell River 8 years ago. The new location does not have any atmosphere - it is laid out poorly with a few table and a counter in the middle. The fish and chips are petty go - but the coleslaw has no taste; they still make the worst in town - no flavour at all ! You need help in this area of your menu.

This place has amazing fish and chips. I also love their fried oysters. They fry seafood items so that they are perfectly cooked and juicy. Casual, relaxed atmosphere.

Without a doubt the best fish and chips I've had since I was a kid and we would have fish and chips at Trolls in Horseshoe Bay. The fish chowder is heavenly. I love everything I've had there. The staff are very good too.

Heard lots of good things about the fish in Campbell River and Dick's being a popular tourist spot. Being health conscious I got the grilled cod. One piece with lots (too much) so-so fries and mushy peas was $13! I appreciated the service and quaint atmosphere but don't think I'm going back even to try the true fried chips.
Pics include coworkers halibut and cod pieces but they look bigger because of all the batter.

I will echo Stew Burner's comments about the batter being soggy. I think that the fryers at their new location are not kept hot enough! The fish filets were okay but soggy, the chips (please note: people from the USA would used the term French Fries) were definitely not twice fried and were really soggy. In fact the fries were so soggy that they were almost inedible, I think that I ate a third of the portion of chips that came with the two pieces of Halibut. Ugh, soggy fries! I doubt that I will return to Dick's.

I was on vacation recently and was walking around by the Marina enjoying the beautiful day when I caught this amazing aroma which turned out to be Dicks.
I wandered in there, nervous at first because I've never had Dicks before. The staff was very friendly and assured me I'd love Dicks, and oh boy were they ever right.
I ordered the 3 piece meal. I'm glad I got the 3 instead of the 2 because 2 Dicks wouldn't have hit the spot.
I found Dicks to be a little bit salty but some people might prefer their Dicks that way.
I can't wait until I'm back in Campbell River again so I can take care of this craving for Dicks.
Went to the new location at the former home of the Fish Monger,I have visited Dicks over the years at its old home down on the water front and I think that always had an effect on its food, always enjoyed it, however on this trip I didn't really like the location, it was kind of stuffy inside, the fish was okay, i found the batter soggy, others at my table liked most of what they ordered, but agreed the location isn't what it was down at the docks. On top of that as you walk past the location you can see all the staff smoking and I thought it looked bad, there was a grubby looking guy walking around the eating.area, just didn't look good

Exactly what you want and expect from a floating fish & chips place! Great fish, moist and crispy batter! Cheap beer. No fuss. Perfection!

In the summer months be sure to go early as there will be a line starting by 5pm.

Salmon & Chips. The best! Worth a long drive. And it was lovely sitting right down on the water.

No idea what the fuss is about. This place is packed. Long wait in line although there were only 4 people in front of us so be prepared to wait. There is also very little seating outside and 3-4 tables inside. The service was friendly. We sat inside and it stunk. There were flies everywhere and the garbage was overflowing. If there was a seat outside we would have moved. I had the fried oysters and they were terrible. I could not believe how much greasy, tasteless batter there was. I mean there was no seasoning at all, not even salt and pepper. The fires and coleslaw were fine but that is not what I was paying for! My boyfriend had the halibut and chips and said the batter was awful as well. We ended up asking for side dishes (cardboard) and picking off all of the batter and piling it up. The best part of this experience was the owner's adorable golden retriever who wanders around visiting with the tables.

We had the fish and chips and everything was absolutely dripping in grease.. Fries were soggy and translucent with the amount of grease on them .. Fish was so thickly battered and greasy you could not even taste the halibut inside. We really wanted to like this place , great location but unfortunately I would rate this place absolutely disgusting.

It is what it is advertised to be. Fish & Chips on a floating dock on the water. Fish was nicely done. Fries a bit soggy. No halibut available on our day.

Go for the halibut. The fried halibut is the best I have ever had - it has just a very thin coating of batter, not the hard thick greasy armour that some fish comes with. It is perfectly cooked and there is lots of it in an order. The chips aren't as good once they get cold, the coleslaw is bland, and the tarter sauce is like that from a giant jar of industrial size. Of course halibut isn't cheap anymore, so it is $15.90 for a two piece halibut and chips - but it is the size of four pieces of fish at other chip joints. The location makes it worthwhile, eating on a float on a warm sunny day with a cold beer and fish and chips is perfect...The only problem is the lineups can be so long on a nice day that you will want to get your second beer when you order the first.

On the fence. was good but not great. the fries were soggy and the coleslaw very bland. The fish was good but all in all pretty greasy. Very expensive. Great location though. I think this place needs a serious deep cleaning.

Yummy. Small eating area but worth it.

There's no place like dick's!. We have been eating here since we were kids and they were up on dogwood street. I now bring my own kids here. The food is always consistent and we love that it has that casual homey feeling! Prices are more then fair and they always throw in an extra piece of fish. We don't do anywhere else for halibut!

Best Fish & Chips. Our favourite place for fish and chips, right on the dock. A great place for visitors and locals.

A family favorite. Love this place, it is the epitome of Campbell River eating to me. Great owners, friendly staff, honest to goodness delicious fish and chips!

GREAT traditional fish and chips. Definitely don't miss this spot if you are in Campbell River. The cod is really great, although I heard even better things about the halibut. The fries were super tasty. This is a must do for visitors!

**google maps is wrong** it's beside the ferry terminal to quadra island!! The most amazing fish and chips I have ever had in my entire life. I had the halibut ones, as it's halibut season right now and the fish was so moist and flaky, and the batter was crispy and cooked all the way through (not doughy and gross like some places). The batter also had flavor! It wasn't just a fish delivery mechanism! I wish I had dorothy's ruby slippers so I could click my heels together, say "there's no place like Dick's" and magically be transported back to the island for supper. It was that good. Let's not forget the chips! They're just like homemade with real potatoes, requiring vinegar not ketchup (heathens! Ketchup is only for inferior 'fries'). And Dick's gives you a whomping huge load of chips with your order. The mini side of coleslaw they give you seems far too puny for how good it is, but it's small to give you room for the deep fried mars bar. Yes the diabetic heart attack waiting to happen, but you just can't resist it because it is oh so good. Indescribably so. We'll just say it's smothered in two kinds of ice-cream and a mountain of whipped cream.

Good fish and great burgers. My gf says it felt very 'fishermany'. Do note that google maps shows it across the street from where it actually is - floating attached to the docks.

Best EVER fish and chips. Best fish and chips I ever had. So authentic, you really feel like your eating the sea when your sitting on a dock! Always good large portions! So yummy!

Posted on August 27, 2014 by Shirley Some of the best fish and chips anywhere on the Island Can there be anything better than enjoying superb fish and chips on an outdoor patio on a fine evening? For us, it is one of the simple pleasures, but sometimes finding good fish and chips – even here on the Island, where fresh fish is plentiful – is a problem. We have more often than not been disappointed by fish that was not fresh, chips that came from a freezer bag, heavy greasy batter – you name it, we’ve seen it all even in supposedly ‘good’ fish and chip joints. Maybe that’s why Dick’s Fish and Chips in Campbell River was such an extraordinary delight. Dick’s is located along the waterfront on a wharf, easily visible from the parking lot located at the marina that is its neighbour. We wandered down there for dinner during a brief overnight stay in Campbell River to discover that we weren’t the only ones planning to enjoy the fresh air and maritime ambiance that paired so beautifully with the fare offered at Dick’s. The place was hopping! Dining al fresco at Dick’s We placed an order for a couple of ‘one piece fish’ dinners knowing, thanks to our B&B hostess, that there is always an extra smaller piece of fish thrown in for good measure. After ordering we plunked ourselves down at one of the picnic tables and watched as a wide variety of meals arrived at other tables. We tend to be purists on the fish and chip ‘thing’, going for the deep-fried variety, but there are many other options on the menu including grilled fish, burgers of every imaginable variety, wraps, salads – choice is not an issue here if traditional fish and chips are not your heart’s desire. We only had to wait a few minutes until our order, served up in large paper cones perched in unique trays, was ready. We unloaded the tray, inserted the paper cones into the holes cut in our table (I had been wondering what they were for….) and plowed in. And oh my, what a treat! Cut-to-order chips, lovely fresh f
