Review Ginger Express - Cambridge

Phoned in an order for pickup. The girl on the phone repeated back to me the order that I made in which I confirmed was correct. Upon pickup, it was my mistake that I didn’t double check the order before taking it back home in Guelph as my order was wrong. The assumption I made was I got what I ordered which would’ve been a safe assumption for any reputable business. What I ordered was hunan beef but what I received was something different but still beef. It was super greasy. I also paid an extra cost ($2) for fried rice with this beef dish and got some white rice that looked like it was put into a wok with soy sauce. It was a super small portion and super bland. Gives fried rice a bad name. Overall, it was an interesting experience. I wish the original owners still ran this business because the young girl running the front counter gave the previous customer attitude and that attitude transferred over to me when I was next in line.

Tried this place, wish I hadn’t. First impressions are big in the restaurant industry hence appearance of staff/dining room important. Tables were ribboned off and chairs stacked in hallway in what’s a small location. When I asked why no dine a man answers ‘preference’ This is odd because every seat generates revenue. After ordering directed to sit on 2 broken chairs and food was ready quickly. 2 two combination meals came to $30, portion sizes was unimpressive. I seen my peppered beef consisted of onion and green pepper with very little meat and beef unseasoned, texture wasn’t right either. I opted out of eating hoping to get dish corrected, called twice during operating hours with no answer. Saved food and receipt, called in the morning and spoke to same gentleman from last night. I explained issues he dismissed my complaint with all food is pre-portioned and wasn’t gonna do anything about it. This man has ZERO customer service skills and shows little interest in the success of this location. I’ve learned in this industry your food is as good as your heart is in it. The lack of compassion you have for the guests that walk through your doors (that I may add is the reason you have a paycheque) and the lack of problem solving skills you possess to ensure repeat customers will reflect on your success or failure eventually.

Average. For the time I’ve been in Cambridge I never had visited Ginger Express. This used to be a hot spot back in 2019 but I finally got my chance to try it. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken and though I ordered Pad Thai noodles I received Rice. That aside, the whole thing (Sweet and Sour Chicken & Rice and a Drink) cost me 12$, not to mention when we sat down we were told they didn’t have Dine-In, (Mind there are no restrictions to sitting and Vaccine Passport etc) so there was no restaurant ambience, and we were the only ones during Lunch-time which is surprising. When me and my friends went and sat at the restaurant over we opened up the styrofoam box to see golden coloured chicken with no “Sweet & Sour” on it and that it was in a separate container. Fine. But isn’t the whole point for the chicken to be marinated in the sauce? The portions were quite small for 12$ but the food tasted decent at most, I could tell it was reheated but it really seems like they were trying to cheap out. At least the customer service was nice.

We ordered a chicken pad Thai and a Hunan Beef with the additional $2 fried rice (L1), only to not actually get what we ordered. We received the pad Thai and rice however instead of getting the Hunan Beef we got Mongolian something. We even had the cashier repeat it back to us to be sure. It sucks that it's too far to go back to since we would waste more gas than its worth to have them fix this, not to mention time.

Ordered spicy chicken lunch special. Literally had 4 tiny pieces of chicken for my order. The rest was onions, some bell peppers, and mushrooms.

We ordered for take out at 8:45... Just 15mins before their closing and they had it ready for us in exactly 10 mins; the food was good I loved the manchurian chicken and the curry sauce the most; this is a good place if you are craving Chinese food and it it very pocket friendly

Ordered combination platter. Was extremely small portions, we’re talking 6 pieces of chicken (more like shavings) the chicken was VERY small. There was a handful of vegetables that weren’t good and we also paid $2.00 extra for noodles and half of them didn’t have any sauce on them, just plain noodles. Overall, would not eat from here again.

The shrimps were really good. But my chicken wings were over cooked and dry. The vegetable lo mien was good. The portion seems like it got smaller or maybe its been so long since I ordered. Overall i am happy the food wasn't salty like most places. I would give another try 😄.
