Review Blackshop Restaurant - Cambridge

Fine dining. This restaurant pays great attention to details, and provides excellent food, rich with tastes, high end experience (servers & decor). We noticed there are private rooms as well. Note dishes tend to be on the smaller size. Will definitely come back if I get the chance.

Blackshop is an absolute GEM! Everytime we go we get the best service from our server and the food is always on point. We are now making this place a monthly occurrence due to the food, the servers and ambiance. I would highly recommend, classy but elegant. The dessert is also top notch, and the drink menu is on point.

Amazing place. I love the ambience, our server, Stephanie, was fantastic and made us feel relaxed and welcome. And the food was fantastic! We went with the whole experience of appetizers, meal and dessert and both of us were very happy with the taste delights, quality and presentation of the food.

THE best dining experience I have had in years. I took my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner last night and we were totally blown away. Our server was a wonderful young lady who had a little bit of an accent (I want to say French but I could be wrong). She was charismatic and polite right off the hop, helping us with wine recommendations and featured items on the menu. We started with the Bacon Scallops and they were PERFECT. Moving onto the main course, my girlfriend had the lamb and I had the beef tenderloin. Both items came out in a timely manner and looked amazing. Now this is where my 5 star comes in; I cut into my steak and it was a little bit well done for my liking as I asked for it medium rare… I hate sending food back. It’s my least favourite thing to do as a server but our wonderful waitress would not let me take no for an answer. Within minutes I had a brand new plate of immaculately cooked steak and sides. I was blown away at the level of customer service. We were then treated to dessert by the restaurant for my partners birthday. 10/10 Food - 20/10 Customer service Come here if you need a refreshing dining experience. Beautiful decoration and atmosphere and a very curated service. Excellent wine and cocktail menus. My partner ordered the pork chops which came with broccoli, mashed potatoes and other delicious sides, and I ordered the salmon which was cooked to perfection, and came with warm olives garlic rapini, quinoa, and olives.. Everything was delicious!! The price point was at $35/entree. There was a bread basket for the table. For dessert, we shared the mini dessert medley, which included tiramisu, creme brulee, and carrot cake. Everything was of excellent quality.

We went out to for dinner on Saturday. I got there about 40 minutes before the rest of the party because they were stuck in traffic. The host was very nice, looked at my proof of vaccination and gave me some options on tables. I waited about 10 minutes then the first waiter came and took my order for an apple martini. It was really good although they ran out of the apple syrup so I couldn't order another one. My friends showed up and the first waiter came over and told us that he would need to have another waiter take over from him. The new waiter seemed so have a huge chip on his shoulder. We ordered some calamari for an appetizer, he got snappy when my friend asked for some bread. When he came over with our main course we mentioned it was our friends birthday. He didn’t even say happy birthday to her, although I know he's not obliged to wish her a happy birthday it's just a kind thing to do. My friend asked if they did something for birthdays, he said sarcastically “well I wouldn’t be a good waiter if I didn’t do anything!” It was quite uncomfortable. We finished our meal and we each ordered desert. He brought out her desert and said “compliments of the chef”. I thought that was very nice it had Happy birthday written on the plate in chocolate. When our bills came, there was a charge for the complimentary desert, so she asked him about the charge and he said “the chef wrote a complementary Happy birthday on the plate!”. It was really such a disappointment after driving 1 hour and 20 minutes from London and spending over $100 per person to be treated so badly. The food was good which is why I gave the review a star, I got the calamari for an appetizer, steak for dinner and a mini crème brûlée for desert.

Master Chief prepared a delight for the eyes and mouth. Delicious food ina a wonderfully decorated inside and out restaurant.

Highly recommend for special occasions. They always have great specials in addition to their main menu. Quality wine list. Service is exceptional!

So I consider myself a self proclaimed foodie and have been the the Blackshop two times previously. This time (Sat Feb 25/18) I did not like it at all. The service was excellent, but the food was not! Everything was overcooked and over seasoned. The rice was mushy and obviously overcooked, the meatballs were dry and the sides were just wrong. I have had more luck in the bar area ordering fries and a burger. If the food was up to the excellence that our server gave us it would have been fabulous. I will not return.

WOW! Ottawa is MISSING OUT!..the atmosphere is beautiful, the side patio is outstanding. Service and food were amazing...and could put some of Ottawa's best to shame. Would absolutely recommend and will be my spot every visit here! Great night

We went there for a friend's birthday. She had made a reservation for the group well ahead of time so she called on the day of to confirm our reservation. She was told that everything was in place as it had been booked. However, when we reached the restaurant we were told that our reservation was a half hour later than the time they had confirmed earlier that day and that we would have to wait in the bar for the half hour as there were still people at our table. When we finally got seated it took the better part of an hour to get our drink orders sorted out and to even have our food orders taken. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer and it was lousy at best. For the main course, the four people around me and myself all ordered steak, only one of which was served as ordered. The other four had to be sent back. I had ordered a medium-well bacon-wrapped steak and received it medium-rare. When the three of us who had had to have new steaks cooked got our food back, the steak was cooked properly but there was no bacon around it! When I pointed this out to our waitress she said she would fix it and took it back and brought it back out with strips of bacon that had just been thrown on top of it. By that point we had waited around the restaurant for SEVERAL HOURS and I was completely DISGUSTED with both the food and the service at this establishment.

Had our Valentine’s Day supper there. Atmosphere was great service was excellent. The food was not so good. The steak seemed like it had be pre-cooked and then heated up for service. The potato dish was undercooked as well. I will most likely give it another try here as there are a lot of positive reviews and I am hoping they just had an off night.
