I came into this place very skeptical since it was a vegetarian only restaurant. They changed my mind! Fresh naan bread and pizza brought out in the buffet, good curries to try. It was like I didnt need meat for the first time in my life. Plus the price was so cheap- $8 for buffet. Worth every penny. The only cons I can say is that it was a little busy and sometimes it felt it wasn't the cleanest, but the employees were fast to bring new clean plates out and clean up any messes and dirty plates. But I'll be sure to do a few dinners here now since its a good sit-down restaurant for the price.
Happened to pop into this place on the last day of my 7 days in Calgary, this place is a gem for vegetarian indian food lovers. Similar to our local eateries like om sweets and bikanairwala, this place offers variety of cheap snacks, sweets and a $20 buffet which u won't repent indulging in. Managed by all indian Sikh staff , just one thing I did not like about this place was that a little girl (about 12 years old) was clearing tables and serving food.
Great vegetarian buffet. The food was hot (warm) and fresh as well as tasty and plentiful.
The service...non existent. Had to your pour our own water and get our own cans of Pepsi from the fridge. Waitress didn't even say hello or ask how things were. They just sat at the front and looked out the window.
The vegetarian pizza from here was delicious! I didn't know vegetarian pizza could taste so good. Only $10 for a large pizza. A bit spicy so it's great if you like spicy food.
Cheap Indian food aplenty in this former Pizza Hut! You get what you pay for and that makes me more than happy.
This place is vegetarian only so don't expect any meat. Butter paneer instead of butter chicken, etc.
The curries are decent, the pakora is yummy, the naan is really good (when it's fresh out of the oven) and my wife likes the rice pudding for dessert.
We've been back here a few times and would go again. $12 for all you can eat!
Fyi, they also serve pizza here. Maybe they're trying to keep the Pizza Hut memories alive or maybe the building came with a pizza oven so they decided to not let it go to waste. Weird, but whatever.
Very delicious food. What an amazing place, went there for the first time in my
life and me and my family were blown away. So many choices
so many different things to choose from. I loved the shahi paneer
#1 in town for sure. Mango shake was so delicious, would
recommend this place for sure
Best food in ne calgary. Loved ever dish will be back again. Lots of parking ,service was good. Perfect amount of spice
Best indian food I have had in a while. Perfect amount of spice, explosion of flavour in your mouth. Service was good food was better, my wife and kids will be going back for sure.
Great. I was pleasantly surprised that it is a vegetarian restaurant. They don't seem to advertise that aspect. They have a huge selection of hot foods as well as a large salad bar.
Wow Loved the shahi paneer , went there with my wife and kids last night for dinner everyone loved the food. Samosas were made perfect better then other places in the n.e. The flavors remind me of food back home in india. I will be back for sure.
Best indian food in the n.e. i've ever have. I was in india last year with my husband and this restaurant shows how to bring india flavours to canada. Very clean place and freindly service i will go back for sure..
Decent Cheap Vegetarian Grub. I eat here occasionally when in the NE. Food isn't spectacular, but for $10 buffet, it's not bad. Food is abit watered down but you get what you pay for. Don't expect service here. They will bring you water and clean your plates (sometimes)..but don't expect great service..afterall, it is a buffet. I don't understand why people complain so much about the service..it's a BUFFET.
Well.... For the price and the quality, you can't beat it.
Yes it is all vegetarian.... Now I am not some hippy dippy vege-lover ( not.trying to be insulting to any vegetarians or vegans ), but I have gone back 5 times! That is how good they do vegetarian.
I like meat. And I recomend this place.
I will admit, try to get there earlier as, yes the food is fresher. But like any buffet near the end of lunch or dinner service , it will.be dryed out and old.
We have eaten here many times and it is great for the money. I wish they would take more care in keeping plates and cutlery clean. Didnt realize it was vegetarian at first but now wouldnt go any other way its just more calories and i must have their galub jamon..sp?
"Wow finally a proper Indian restaurant in Calgary "
Service was excellent, people were friendly always smiling , food was so good me and my gf went twice in one day. I recommend the new veggie burger they have its so good only for 5$, I will be going back for sure, there's a new heavy hitter in town
5rivers Indian cuisine .....
Good food. I have dined at Five Rivers twice, had take-out twice. I loved every last morsel. There were a few dishes that I wasn't fond of, but others were enjoying them so I imagine it was just a personal choice thing. Because it's a buffet, because it is not exactly fine dining and the atmosphere is family oriented and casual, I don't expect a ton of service. We did receive a pitcher of water on our table, and fresh roti was brought around the first time I was there which was nice. Lots and lots of variety, something for everyone, even pizza for the reluctant! The price is right, food is hot and good - I will keep returning.
Decent service and amazing selection! We came upon this restaurant as a happy accident and could not have been more excited upon realizing it was vegetarian. My meat-loving husband was not disappointed with the selection - definitely will be back.
Loved it! Good food, great value. I got all the rich & spicy flavours of India that I had hoped for and more.. SO many menu items, and sauces galore! There was even pizza & salad on the buffet, so even non-adventurous diners could partake in the experience. Yes indeed, I will come again:)
So much choice. Five Rivers has a really huge selection of vegetarian indian and (some) italian food, situated in a former pizza hut building. We had pretty much the same hit & miss experience as the other reviewers when we visited on a busy Friday evening. If you're expecting attentive service or a fancy dining experience then go elsewhere. If you're happy with friendly service, a bargain price and a relaxed atmosphere - plus a buffet that has something to please everyone (except die hard carnivores!) then I'd definitely recommend it. Their samosas and galub jamon were especially good and the choice and quality of fruit and salads was great.
Good food. Good price.. I'm a lifelong Veg and Calgary's NE is the best part of the city to find cheap, delicious eats. This restaurant is clean, spacious and accommodating. The staff are efficient, no small talk or doting but that's ok. It's a $9.99 buffet with infinite choices and tons of fresh fruit to combat that heavy feeling after you realize you've eaten way too many naan. Samosas, pakoras, papadum, palak paneer, daal, chana masala, saffron rice, okra, raita, cold salads, mango chutney, rice pudding with cardamon, even pizza (but I guess I can let that slide since the location WAS a Pizza Hut).. Everything you scoop is Veg and flavourful. Way more selection than Namskar or Moti Mahal or any other more central, trendy buffet. They have highchairs so I fed my 14-month old at no charge and they had big screen TVs so my husband watched the Playoffs. I was very pleased and so was my burger-lovin' spouse.
Good place. For the $9.99 buffet price, we had several tasty hot dishes, fresh naan and really excellent samosas. The yellow daal was especially good. Also, we had some of the best gulab jamon I have ever had for dessert -- I wish I had left more room. The staff were pleasant.
Was every one of the dishes I picked out a winner? No. But it was $1 for fountain pop (I haven't seen that price since I was a kid) and my definitely non-vegetarian husband was full and happy. We definitely feel like we got our money's worth.
Overall, a great place to go on a Wednesday night.
Adults and children welcome. Busy, noisy, clean and bright. The adults enjoy vegetarian dishes while the youngsters seemed crazy about the pizza.
Possibly the best Indian vegetarian buffet in Calgary. Well lit, very clean, lots of food choices, and friendly waitresses and helpful chef. Definitely we will go back.
Can't wait to go back!. I was very skeptical walking into an ALL vegetarian restaurant, but I loved everything I tried. The tofu butter chicken was my favorite, and my daughter had the pizza. Children are very picky and she almost ate the whole pizza. I tried a piece and it was very flavorful... not sure why the other posters didn't like it. Just because they serve pizza doesn't mean they have to BE a pizza place........ ANYWAYS... The food was really fresh, there was a whole bar full of fresh fruits and veggies to create salads and such. Great for kids also. I've only been there once but I've been craving to go again since I left. Not to mention the decor was very clean looking and elegant. Everyone I know loves this place and now I know why :)
Very Impressed :). I was driving by and seen this new indian restaurant so I decided to check it out as it was very nicely decorated. There is a wide selection of great tasty vegetarian dishes. I was greeted right away. Service was prompt. The foods that stood out for me the best was their tofu butter chicken, samosas, and potato patties. The pizza was also really good. Staff were very friendly. Will definately be going back.
Great Food!. I have been to this restaurant 7 times now and they have only been open for approx 2 months. I love the food they have a great variety of vegetarian dishes, appetizers, pizza, and a order in menu. The service is quick, the restaurant is very modern and contemporary and quite frankly the best looking indian restaurant I have seen in a while. The prices are fantastic. The decor is beautiful, the color scheme is great. I am so impressed! Professional service. Gotta go try it!
Very nice Indian buffet!. Very nice setting, kinds of make you think you are travelling. I was a little surprised when I saw it was 100% vegetarian but none the less was very please with the food. It was very fresh, and wasn't too spicy. I have been to a lot of Indian restaurants and this one has delivered far most for the price, freshness and quantity of dishes to choose from. I will definitively make this a weekly place to eat. The only 2-3 negative things I would say, one is that the music is too loud, the second is that they don't write the name of the dishes, and maybe a little too much salt on the fresh veggies. Other than that it was really good and the people, they are Indian and have the right to their culture, they are silent but very friendly. Looking forward to going again in a few days, one of the best Indian buffet in Calgary for me right now.
Brunch Buffet. I am a meat eater and I went in with a negative attitude as did not have a choice. I thought it would just be lentils and beans but they had many different vegetables- from Bhindi(okra) to Karela (bitter Gourd) and not to miss egg plant cooked in a couple of different ways. I absolutely loved the food. It was fresh and delicious unlike some buffets I have had. They had 3-4 types of naans/paronthis (Indian breakfast stuffed pancakes) and at least 10 different types of main dishes (could not try all). I am definitely going there again and would recommend to anyone who is looking for a change of regular menu with meat. I am not sure if it matters but I am from India and I know my food. It really is not a bad deal for less than 10 dollars.
