The fish and chips are fresh and good. The price is very reasonable. Many people rate this location a 5 but many reviews rate this place poor. They are wrong. The food is well priced and excellent.
Had some of the best fish and chips in Calgary tonight. The restaurant is a 60's retro style, but clean and tidy. A straightforward menu of seafood with 4 different kinds of fish. The haddock fish and chips is thinly battered with a solid chunk of fish. This restaurant has been here forever and I hope it stays.
May she stand forever.... Call me Ishmael. I have been going to Trawlers since I was a little boy (then Boydes) and have ordered the same thing every time: two piece halibut and chips. I could never finish it, so I'd always get dad to finish it off. It is a place where dad would take me on those "special" (boring) Saturdays when we went downtown to run errands or when I played in his office while he worked. Being a kid back then was different, I like to think my generation is the last one that truly knows the meaning of quality time. Trawlers is the place where dad and I would connect and talk about Calvin and Hobbes or why Lego is just so great. Just me and him laughing and learning over a plate of tender white halibut cocooned in a modestly deep fried batter. Crisp and tender. Like the conversations we shared.
Trawlers hasn't changed a bit. It's exactly how I remember it since the early 90s. It's fresh fish is supplied by the fishmonger (Boydes) located inside the restaurant and it is the only place I go to get lobster today. Perhaps I am biased because of the memories, sure I'll grant you that. But as Calgary grows, as new tastes come and go, and as down to earth hole in the walls fall victim to the overhyped mediocrity of Toronto imports (see Rodney's Oyster House), I can only hope that Trawlers stay around so that one day when I have a son, I can selfishly bring him to the same little temples where I learned about life, people, and family.
For those looking for something quiet, unpretentious, and simple, go here and bring your kids. Bring your friends. Leave your phones in the car and just disconnect to reconnect with those unjudgmental few. The decor is not pretty, rather it's preserved. I'd like to think it's just for me, as it's empty most of the time, but it's for you to share. Just like the two piece halibut that I can't finish to this day. I still save a little bit for him.
I just love this place. Dine in only. I have a thing against soggy fish so a sit down meal is great. Big fan of the cod and clam strips. Great service! :) I will be back.
Good Fun. Cool place attached to the Boyd's Seafood store. Always fun.
Tasty and no frills!. This restaurant is nothing fancy, but it is a great place to fix your fish-n-chips craving. I went on a Saturday afternoon and it was nice and quiet.
I had the three piece dinner with haddock, and it was great. It wasn't overly greasy, and the fish was perfectly flaky and flavorful. The 'chips' aren't truly 'chips', more just regular French fries, but that's usually the case over here in North America. Service was quick, and friendly.
All-in-all, Trawler's is a quaint little place to grab a bite and I'll be back soon.
Very basic menu but they do it right. The dated menu and decor probably wont blow you away, but the place is bright and clean and smells like a good fish and chip joint should. This place does it right, keeps it simple and fresh. Real, big pieces of fresh battered fish and awesome house cut fries. Stayed open about an hour past close to serve us which is a total win in my books. Big portions for totally fair prices. No frills, but taste and quality are always more important. Will return.
Big portions!. I was always curious about this seafood joint. One day I decided to pop in and take a menu. The place was packed, and judging from the customers happily gorging on heaping platters of fish and chips, the food looked good. I also saw quite a few customers ordering big bowls of chowder. So today, I went in for lunch and ordered one piece pollock and chips ($8.75). The fish covered about 60% of the plate - golden brown, thin fillet, and crispy. Another day I tried cod, which was delish. The chips were also crispy - a nice fresh homestyle cut, as well as a generous serving of coleslaw. Tartar sauce has a nice kick, and a little sweet with what looks like carrot or orange seasoning/herbs. The seafood chowder bowl ($6.25) was so filling, more than enough for a meal. It's a thin milk broth, filled with halibut, scallops and shrimp. It comes with a large bun and crackers. It's different from the chowder I'm eaten in Seattle. This version doesn't have all the butter and flour and salt and has a much thinner consistency , but it does taste healthier. The clam chowder is richer and very tasty.
Next time I'll go in and try their scallops, oysters and clams. I'm going to try and try everything on their menu. May take me a while. Friendly service. Glad I tried this place out.
Seriously the best place in Calgary for Fish and Chips.
Great selection of Pollack, Atlantic cod, Halibut to go with your chips. Lots of clams, oyster, and shrimp side dishes as well and everything extremely fresh.
Food itself was absolutely delicious. Fish was cooked ro perfection with a very very light batter that didn't over power the fish like other places. Seriously best fish and chips I've had outside of St. John's, Newfoundland.
Service was super friendly and professional. Very helpful and accommodating as well.
Restaurant itself is a bit aged yet super clean. Washrooms well maintained.
The best!! We always get the haddock and chips. The fish is thick. The batter is crispy and delicious. As fresh as can be. This restaurant is the standard for great fish and chips. The same lady is there to greet us with a smile each time
Good food at a reasonable price. Not sure why others are saying the fries are hard or there's too much batter. Attached photo shows the haddock meal with good fries
Was craving Fish and Chips the other night, did some Googling and came across this place. It is such a cozy environment right off the road. Unfortunately, it does not seem too busy for in-person dining with everything going on. But wow, I ordered the three piece Cod Fish meal and I am thoroughly impressed. The fish was amazing, very tasty, the coleslaw had a really rich taste that I loved, and the fries were a great touch. Overall, the portion of the meal is huge, and with a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend this place. Thank you to the staff for a great meal, I will be back indeed, I hope everyone checks this small business and helps it out!
Very tasty, hot and fresh. Great service and you can also get fresh to take home at the fish market right there.. new favorite!
Went here with family and I have to say their fish and chips were the best I have had in my entire life. Perfectly battered, good meaty pieces. The fries were perfectly cooked as well. Wife got the clam chowder and loved it. Will be coming back here for sure!!
This restaurant has been around sincd i was a child, and I always wondered what it was like inside. me and my partner went there together for the first time and it was like we stepped into a building from the 80s. very quiet and the food/drink was quite expensive but I would highly recommemd. the fish in my fish and chips wasnt greasy at all, the fries were perfect and the coleslaw was fresh. some of the cleanest and tastiest fish and chips ive ever had.
I love fish n chips, and since I moved to Alberta 14 years ago from the coast I've only been able to find okay fish n chips that are over priced. This is the first time I dont feel like I'm being cleaned out of all my money just to have fish n chips. The prices are great, they make a wicked tartar sauce, the batter to fish ratio is bang on, and there friendly. I will tell everyone about this place! It's a must if you love your fish n chips!
As a party of 4 we tried the clam chowder, a seafood platter with an extra piece of haddock, one order of calamari and one order of fried oysters. All the food was excellent. Fresh and well prepared. The oysters were on the small side. The price is a little high but quality is great. Service is also good.
The halibut was very good. Nice light batter. Low salt, if that matters to you. Didn't like the coleslaw. It was watery and tasteless. Fries tasted old. Like they have been sitting out for awhile. But I'd come back for the halibut.
Best chippie place in Calgary! Often bring guests here rather than to a swanky restaurant. Always a welcome, food hot & fast, nice plain surroundings & the sounds of happy people. Reminds us of Mediterranean fare & service - wholesome and gracious. Thanks Vicky & Gus!
My Momma & Poppa & myself used to always get fish and chips with your chowder...every single week for about 5 years!!! Unfortunately they have both passed on now but we had many a laugh & good times over those meals. Can't thank Traveler's enough for their amazingly yummy food & heartfelt memories 😄🙂😉
This is my go-to for fish and chips! I love their tartar sauce (one of the best)! Decent pricing, I always get their special as it tastes just as good! Would always come back here if I am craving :)

Kinda wish I could add a half star and give it 3 1/2. Just ordered a one piece with Atlantic Cod for almost $15! Not enough food at all for that price. The one piece of fish wasn't very big. It did taste good and was fresh. Fries were definitely not fresh.
Wonderfully tasty, our fish entrees came cooked and flavoured to perfection, literally. I came for a birthday with fish a must, and the garlic scallops from Nova Scotia were incredible; others had the poached halibut, and to try it out I had the clam chowder, which was exquisite.
Best Fish & Chips and Deep Fried Scallops in Calgary! A little diner type of place, nothing fancy. Excellent prices. The seafood is always fresh and the lady at the front counter is always friendly.
