A family favourite, we always go to eat there after my son is finish with his swimming lessons down at YMCA across from Eau Claire. Japanese food is always a healthier alternative and it’s delicious!
We wanted Japanese food for lunch but all other Japanese restaurants in downtown was closed for lunch on Saturday. We went in to Sumo Lounge since it was the only restaurant opened. We went in with low expectation because it is part of eau claire mall and it doesn't look very attractive from the outside of the restaurant. When we went inside, the restaurant was actually quite nice. We ordered some yam tempura and couple of rolls. The food wasn't amazing but it was much better than expected. Their green tea was really good.
Great Sushi Experience!. I went here with my friend and our sons (with Groupon) and we had an awesome night out. All the food was delicious and we had great service too. Our favourite wwas the BBQ eel rolls. So delicious!
Usually very good. We really like this place the food is always good. The service is usually great too but this last time it wasn't as good. Our server was very flaky and we often had to flag her down.
Great improvement. The sushi is very nicely done. The special rolls are also beautifully plated. Convenient location with underground parkade. The restaurant is now much better than years ago.
Had a wonderful time!. Me and my husband decided to take a nice walk around Princes Island Park. Afterwards we were starving so we decided to try the sushi place thats right beside the park. We ordered the sushi and sashimi combination and it was delicious! the service was fast and friendly. Over-all a very nice experience. Sumo might just be added to our routine.
Groupon is a fantastic deal!. My boyfriend and I came to Sumo Lounge for an early dinner prior to catching a movie and used our $40 valued Groupon. The server was very nice and the food was tasty and on the table fairly quickly. We had no issues using the Groupon (reservation is recommended, tell them you have a Groupon.) $40 is enough to cover the entire meal if you do not include alcoholic beverages. After a couple of bottles of sake and a beer, with tip, we probably paid and additional $30. Not bad to get great sushi for two with lots to drink under $60. Highly recommend.
Wonderful Little Place. I'm not sure where all of these poor service comments are coming from, because we love all the servers at Sumo.
Having visited the restaurant on several occasions, both with a Groupon and without, we love it.

I've eaten here a lot.. I started going to Sumo when it first opened with the floating sushi train. At even the most respected sushi restaurant you can order something that tastes less than fresh. At Sumo I've never had anything truly offensive, but I've often regretted ordering something. The miso soup is good, tempura is good, sushi rice consistency is good, but not great. Its a step below Wa's or Momo's or Haru. The service is minimalistic but effective.
Not sure what all the negative reviews are about. We've been a few times, usually with a groupon, never been asked upfront how we're paying. The place was super busy tonight, hostess suggested we sit at the sushi bar which was fine with us. Service was maybe a bit slower than average but otherwise friendly and attentive. Good selection of rolls, tuna tataki and shrimp tempura are always fantastic. Great dinner spot before heading to a movie at Eau Claire theatres.
Was there the other night, with the service just okay not very attentive. The sushi was very good had assorted sushi plate and rolls, nice size and very tasty.
Bought groupon for sumo lounge. Waitress was friendly and food was fast and delicious. Green dragon roll was really good. $2 underground parking after 5pm and sumo validated parking :)
Everything was pretty average...nothing really stood out but I really liked their miso soup.
Eau Claire still lives. Well thank goodness for Sumo. Fresh Sushi, good food, and great, great service. The girls are the best and most attentive I have seen in a sushi bar, and they tell you what is the best to have that day without lying>>>>>thank goodness for fresh. Top marks for them. Oh, and where can you find any that are better looking???
Good Place. Felt compelled to write a review since I was scared to go because of other peep's posts. Today I went to the Sumo lounge and used my Groupon with no problems. The service was good, actually quite fast considering the crowd, waitresses were friendly and the food was neat ^_^. My favourite was the Tiger Eye Roll. Sushi is better there than at Shibuya, but Shibuya's prices are definitely cheaper. Also someone said the Soya Sauce was unusually salty. That is strangely true....I thought it was just me! I ended up eating most of my sushi without the soya sauce *_*, glad to know it wasn't my imagination being overactive
Very nice!. Came to sumo lounge at about 7 on a Wednesday night, very quiet and service was prompt and polite.
We had starters of a Fresh oysters and Beef Tataki, the oysters were indeed fresh anf very delicious in ponzu, the beef was also good if a bit heavy in the pozu department but with a nice aplication of what tasted like Kimchi snow on top.
For our mains we had a yokozuna love boat which had a selection of three types of sushi roll and 4 types of nigri, a good helping of sashimi and one of the house signature rolls. These were delicious. The rice was a bit dry and tended to fall apart but the freshness and clean cuts of the fish more then made up for this.
With the 30% off the yokozuna love boat offered after 5pm our bill was only $50 including tax and drinks which is very reasonable, and the free nightime parking is a good incentive to return. We will definately be coming back.
From previous (years ago) experience, and reviews here, I was wary when a friend suggested sumo. I'm super glad we went though! The caterpillar roll and miso soup were to die for! Days later and I'm still craving more! A touch pricy, 30$ as opposed to my normal 20, but I will defiantly return when I want to treat myself!
Sushi is OK but service is slow.

Wow, they've really impressed me after the renovations. The atmosphere is so much better compared to the last time I was here. The sushi is a lot better and their apps are very reasonably priced. My gf and I both agree, we will definately be back soon.
Wow, Good Sushi. My friend invited me to join her birthday party at Sumo Lounge in Eau Claire Market. I am so pleased with the Sushi they have which are really fresh and well made. Sumo Lounge also offers the amazing deal after 5 pm, 30% off the sushi boat. Wow, I will come back and bring my other friends to enjoy the sushi at this location for sure. I love it!

I was a little wary of coming to the Sumo Lounge based on the mediocre ratings but a couple of co-workers really wanted to go so I bit the bullet and joined them. I didn't have high expectations but things actually turned out to be decent. We all ended up getting the Sumo Dohyo Platter. You really have to put your meal into the hands of the chef because the menu is really ambiguous. Mixed Sushi (16), Rolls (4), Sashimi (16) is all that it says so you either have to accept what they decide to give you or track down your server and interrogate them. Everything I tried was pretty good, but my friends said the octopus was really chewy so I never tried it. The salmon and tuna sashimi was very fresh and all the rolls that came were good too even though there were a couple of pieces where I wasn't sure exactly what I was eating. I never bothered trying to ask the waitress as it was the lunch rush and pretty packed. I'd probably go again if my co-workers wanted to go, but if it was a weekend and I was at home, I'm not so sure if I'd make the trip down.

No More All-You-Can-Eat. I used to love love LOVE the all-you-can-eat menu at Sumo, before they got their renos and completely got rid of the all-you-can-eat menu all together. It was such a great price, and really high quality food. But alas, the waitress told us that the all-you-can-eat menu wasn't bringing in enough of a profit. Understandable, I guess. I mean, the regular menu, consisting of the same high quality sushi is still there, but I find the prices quite high, and the same high grade food can be found elsewhere in the city for slightly lower prices. It no longer has the upper advantage. Its been tranformed from a semi-casual, semi-formal, fun atmosphere, into a posh and very serious ambience. Great for some, not for others.
I went for the second time after a year or more and was disapointed to see it was no longer all you can eat. That being said, my friend and I ordered several rolls, tempura and drinks and it all came to less then if we had all you can eat! There was also great variety on the menu and everything was delicious.
Their sushi is pretty good for the price and I have been pleasantly surprised. Their sushi bar boat experience leaves a lot to be desired but if you grab a table and order off their menu you'll have a much better time. Their rolls are large and tasty...I
