Good food experience! Comfortable seats and lots of food choice.
Came here on Friday with the family after a trip to Costco. The kids were hungry so we thought buffet would be good. Plentiful parking. The place was busy which I guess is a good sign. It is quite big inside and we were seated promptly.
There is a good selection of cooked items like dim sum, noodles, rice, western Chinese fare, Korean short ribs, various soups. There was a good selection of sushi rolls, salmon sushi and sashimi. Cold section had lots of selection of salad, pickles and such. In the front there was shrimp, scallops, lobster claw, mussels, clams, and escargot.
For dessert, there was a candy bar with sours and assorted treats. Cakes, mouses and such lined one aisle. Lots of flavours of ice cream and one feature of pineapple whip - our favourite.
Service was great for the most part. They came by to take empty plates often. There was a couple of lulls where it took awhile to refill water but all in all it was good.
Family was full by the end of it. Weekends are a bit more expensive then the rest of the week. We'd definitely come back.
A+ Buffet Sushi Bar is located on Macleod Trail Calgary, which right across the street from one of the busiest Mall, Chinook mall, in Calgary. My coworker recommended me about this place. A+ Buffet Sushi Bar is all you can eat buffet and it mainly serves Asian food, such as Chinese, Korean and Japanese food. We arrived restaurant on Monday around the lunchtime. Although it was Weekday, It was still super busy. After waiting for few minutes, the server took us inside the restaurant. Inside the restaurant is very big and has lots of tables/seats. After we found a table, we started to go grabbing food from the food section. The food section was very organized and have multiple selections for customers. People could choose Chinese food, Japanese food, dessert, and seafood, all by themselves. Since we had lunch there, crabs, sashimi, and others seafood were not there. The taste of food were OK. Nothing excited. The seafood was fresh. Highly Recommend people to eat more seafood at this place.
I’ve got nothing bad to say about this buffet. Huge variety and food was pretty good. Sushi and sashimis aren’t even the main attraction - there are Chinese foods, seafood, deep fried bar and a large dessert section. Salad bar is lacking - not much variety. Service was excellent. Don’t love that plates are below the food trays (risky game) but not a deal breaker. Would go back. Just a buffet.
We went to A+ Sushi for dinner tonight. It was surprisingly not bad! I didn't realize it was buffet style, I thought it was like most AYCE sushi places where you mark what you want on a piece of paper and the servers bring it to you. Buffet style is much better in my opinion because you can grab a small amount of something and try it instead of getting an order of 4 pieces and realizing you don't like it. The other thing I didn't realize about A+ Sushi is that it's way more than just sushi, in fact I don't think sushi was even the majority of the buffet.
There was a hot station with some fried foods like yam and shrimp tempura, spring rolls, chicken wings, breaded fried fish filets, gyoza, onion rings and also a few different meats like grilled salmon, teriyaki chicken and beef, lemon chicken, and barbecue pork ribs. The chicken wings were good and so was the grilled salmon. Gyoza was too chewy and dry.
The other hot station had a bunch of different noodle dishes, stir fry dishes, fried rice and a couple dim sum options (Siu Mai and Har Gow). In this section I also saw a few vegetarian dishes, maybe 6 different stir fry dishes that were meatless and some tofu dishes. The "name cards" above these dishes did not specify that they were vegetarian but there was no obvious meat in them, I'm just not guaranteeing that they don't contain chicken stock or some other trace amounts of meat. I liked some of the noodle dishes but didn't try much else because I didn't want to fill up on this stuff. The dim sum wasn't great, the pork dumplings were very porky... like they tasted like ham almost. Not great. And someone said the shrimp dumplings were doughy.
There was a seafood section with cold shrimp, mussels, and crab claws. I found the shrimp just ok and sort of hard to peel, I didn't get seconds. I didn't try the crab but a few people at my table said it was a bit salty.
The salad bar was pretty basic with mostly just the fixings for a nice garden salad. I did also see edamame, kimchi, and a few different salads like macaroni, sprout, and corn.
They had a few different soups available: miso, wonton, chicken noodle, hot and sour.
The sushi was not bad for a buffet. The rolls weren't very interesting. Some of them were ok but some of them tasted like the rolls you would find at a casino buffet, which to me taste like they were made by someone who isn't a legit sushi chef. The salmon sashimi was really good though!
The desserts weren't all that appealing. They had a cheesecake, a Black Forest cake, tiramisu, a few little cups with pudding, some jello. I didn't eat any of this because it all looked a bit dry and boring. The best part was the ice cream though. They had a deep freeze on the end of the dessert section that had 6 different pails of ice cream you could scoop out into cones or bowls. I had mint chocolate chip and it was pretty good. They also have a soft serve machine with vanilla and chocolate but one person in our group tried it and it was a bit melty so no one else got it.
Overall I think this place was ok. I wasn't expecting to eat anything that I would call delicious (and I didn't) but I was in a buffet kind of mood and this buffet was better than a lot. We've gone to the Asian buffets at various casinos in Calgary and I think this one was way better than any of those. That's not exactly a glowing accolade though... I'm not exactly sure how the prices compare to other restaurants and I didn't have a chance to analyze the bill since someone else was paying for the entire group. I do know that the total bill came to 172.00 and it was for 4 adults, 1 senior, 2 children (aged 7 and 9) and 1 child (aged 4) and it included a couple drinks as well.
I don't think I would go out of my way to return to this restaurant, especially if what I was craving was sushi because there are way better AYCE sushi restaurants for a similar price, but we'll probably go back if we're in a buffet mood and happen to be nearby.
Loved this buffet. I'm personally the biggest fan of sushi, so I only got sushi, and can't say anything about the other types of food they offer, but I can say there was so much there, so much variety. Definitely getting your moneys worth.
All my sushi was quite lovely, buffet style for sushi is great, since sushi rolls can get super expensive in most restaurants and you can't afford to try all different kinds. I'd definitely recommend it when you want your fill of sushi. Restaurant was clean, large and comfortable.I thought the price was definitely reasonable for all you can eat and the variety they provide. I will be coming back, for sure!
After looking at some of the reviews that came before, I was hesitant on deciding to come. Being Christmas and coming thru Calgary on our home, my family wanted something filling, and the request were all over the place. We all decided to give this buffet a chance, as we wouldn't be back down for at least half a year or more, being non native to Calgary. So here is what we found.
We came for a lunch buffet, and the selection was extensive. Most of the hot food was coming out fresh at frequent intervals. Restaurant itself was moderately busy with small families. They had 4 different types of maki, 3 sushi and 4 different rolls, which impressed me for a buffet that doesn't specialize in just sushi. Taste wise it was ok. Fish was fresh and sauces were flavourful.
Again comparing it to other buffets. We were not coming into this restaurant expecting food tasting like a gourmet sushi house or authentic Chinese restaurant.
Heading over to the Chinese section, only the teriyaki wonton and chicken ball were a little dry. Short rib were moist, fresh off the grill and very flavourful. The shrimp tampura, scallops and crab were moist and not over cooked which was a nice change.
The general Tao chicken was very saucy with a nice spice, and stir fried noodles had a good flavour.
All the hot food was hot, not cold, and considering we came at the tail end of lunch rush, I was expecting some of it to be a little cold.
We avoided most of the cakes as they were not covered and looked a little dry, but cream puffs, macaroons, and cheesecake are always fair game. The chocolate fountain was a nice touch to.
Our bill at the end of day would have been a cool $63 plus tax, but with a 20% discount came to $55 for 3 adults.
Overall the restaurant met and exceeded my expectations of a buffet. Would I come out of my way to come here to eat? No. Would I come here if I was in town? Absolutely.
I recommend this buffet if your hungry and want a nice selection and variety of food.
Decided to check out A+ sushi buffet to see what it all had to offer. The buffet was absolutely huge, with a range of difference options, from salad, stir fry, soups, and dessert. The price is quite high, since the buffet includes quite a substantial amount of food - definitely come hungry. For sushi you order on a piece of paper, separate from the buffet. The sushi was great and I only had a few things from the buffet but was completely over full afterwards. Overall a pleasant experience. A bit deserted, but the food was quite good.
First, I must say the place is very elegant, spacious, well lit, and laid out...
So I guess they have made some changes recently. The service was spot on. The place is an Asian Buffet with an AYCE sushi bar. Not a AYCE sushi bar only.
I must say the Asian Buffet is one of the better ones in Calgary, the sushi is not bad at all but it's not a la carte quality, (obviously).
We went right at 5pm so the food was as fresh as it gets.
I'm not a very picky eater but for those that complain the food is cold, well it is a buffet where food sits on a heating tray for a while, grab from the bottom of the tray if you want warmer food and don't show up at closing time and expect fresh food.
Now, originally the sushi was made to order via a menu, but because the wait was too long they changed to a buffet bar style, we however asked for the menu, placed an order and also grabbed from the bar as not all items are always available at the buffet bar.
They do however rotate the variety often.
All in all, this is my new favourite place for Asian Buffet, and the price reflects the variety and quality of sushi also available.
Very nice environment and excellent service. The food was slightly above average but honestly nothing special. I would not pay for their full price dinner, luckily they are having a dinner special 20% off. I must mention that they have a good variety of food as sushi.
Had a great experience, probably the best of all Asian buffet places in Calgary. The food is actually decent if not good. There are a ton of options. The best part is the service: Henry was our server both times for our table or 2 and table of 7. He was super friendly, attentive, efficient, quick, thorough and genuinely caring. He definitely provided the best service experience in dining that I've ever had. The front host Shelley also greeted us great energy and made sure everyone who came through the door was looked after. I highly recommend giving A+ a try!
I love A+ Buffet Sushi & Bar! I had my daughter's Baptism Reception at this restaurant today during lunch hour, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm and I must say that the food and service was very excellent! And the restaurant facility was very clean!
The food was fresh, taste was exellent, lots of variety, so much to choose from and the dishes were always filled up!
The service was excellent! My husband and our kids arrived at the restaurant half an hour before our reservation time, even though we were half hour early, the section we reserved for 60 people were ready! There were also about 4 - 6 servers that were looking after us!
The restaurant facilities were very clean!
All of our guests were very Wowed by this restaurant. They all loved the food, the service and the cleanliness of the restaurant.
I give A+ Buffet Sushi & Bar 5 stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
And don't forget they also have the 30% off Lunch Special if you are seated before 12 Noon and I believe 20% off for Dinner if seated at a certain time.
This restaurant is truly A+!
Went there today with husband and daughter for lunch. Good buffet, lots of variety. Clean, well lite, good atmosphere and perfect pricing for what you get. Sushi was good as well, only not a ton of selection but it was fresh and good for what they did have. Definitely will be back, would recommend.
I went here with a couple of friends and the place is packed with people. We stood inside waiting for a table for about 20 minutes which is fine, no big deal. When its finally our turn, the hostess offered to show us around, and we agreed to it. She showed us where to get the wasabi and the sauces including the ones for tempura, taught us how to order items FRESH from the grill bar which is fantastic, and she even showed us where the candy bar is! Unbelievable. The selection of the fresh seafood is a new concept for a buffet restaurant to me. Even shocking is that she told us that there are over 50 sushi including sashimi items to choose from!!! Im literally shook because we thought that its just ayce buffet but also ayce sushi. Service was top notch, easy to get ahold of the servers. Dessert was overall fantastic, you should definitely try the cream puffs, worth dying for lol. The only issue is that they should put more new or rather unique foods in the hot food section. But yeah, overall, I highly recommend this place. Just make sure to go here starving!
We were pleased with the ambience and the warm reception they have showed as we entered the place. A breathe of fresh air seeing the whole dining area compared to most cramped sushi bar we have been to. The buffet area is so inviting for non-sushi customer while their sushi itself is so good. Will surely recommend . . .
