Amazing food and service. My girlfriend and I were wandering aimlessly looking for anything that caught our attention, and we ended up here. Great service (we were the only ones but the place is small enough 1 person could for sure manage the front even during a busy time), the butter chicken here is now my favourite out of all the ones I've tried thus far, and same with the coconut rice and garlic naan. The vegetable pakora was excellent (first time I've ever had that, and will definitely have it again!) as was the chicken vindaloo. I will be highly recommending this restaurant to my family and friends that enjoy Indian food!
I ordered take out from The Spices tonight for the first time. It was excellent. I had the lamb biryani, tandoori naan and chana masala. Nicely seasoned and fragrant food with a good kick. I had a craving for Indian food and this really hit the spot. I really want to go back and try the lunch buffet which seems like really good value.
We saw this restaurant in skip the dishes and decided to try it, and are we ever glad! They have a dinner for two for 29.99, this includes 2 veggie samosas or 6 veggie pakoras (we chose samosas), 2 pieces of tandoori chicken, a butter chicken, and your choice of a veggie curry (we chose malai kofta), 2 pieces of naan and saffron rice. It was quite the bang for its buck, and each dish was full portions. I asked for extra spicy and you could definitely taste the kick. I was nervous that since it was priced so low, the food wouldn't be good but I was wrong! I will continue to order from here.
LOVE this restaurant! Saw it pop up in the neighbourhood about 5 months ago and decided to give it a try. SO happy that we did! The food is delicious, loads of vegetarian options, the mixture of tastes in all that we've tried so far is amazing on the palate! The owners are absolutely lovely people. The prices are excellent. Since we found this place, we order at least once per week. DELICIOUS!!

This is an excellent local Indian restaurant, with staff/owners who are as great as their food is.I live a few blocks away from them, after stopping in on a whim for their lunch buffet, I'm a big fan. In fact, there is rarely a week that goes by without our ordering dinner from them. If you love the hot and spicy flavour of Southern Indian cuisine, this is a great place because they will actually make it that way, if you ask them to - which is great. So many places here tone down the flavour to suit blander palates - which is understandable. But when you order, just ask them to spice it up!
Went here for the first time tonight. We had the dinner for two which included two vegetable samosas, two pieces of tandoori chicken, rice, butter chicken, two orders of naan, and palak paneer. The portions were a good size and price very reasonable ($29). Flavours were excellent and the food came out piping hot. We also ordered a mango lasee and chai tea. Both were delicious. Service was excellent. This is now my go to Indian restaurant in Calgary.
Excellent. eating here for the first time tonight with my wife and we are both seriously impressed. Prices are reasonable and flavours are great. I will strongly recommend this restaurant and it will become our go to for Indian foods.

If you aren't eating here then you are missing out. No shortage of chicken in the Butter Chicken and flavors are awesome all the way around. Dinner for 2 for $30 - can not beat that. And did I say how nice everyone there is......
Short, sweet lunch. Simple place. Maybe eight tables? Clean. Owner was very attentive. Buffet items were well prepared, fresh tasting and fresh. Samosas were particularly good. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area.

Didn't disappoint.. Sick of dealing with Namskar's rude costumer service. Got a tip of this new Indian food place. Looks can be deceiving located in a little spot by Center st. but they sure didn't disappoint. Their food was rich in flavor and fast. Service was friendly and genuine (crazy right?). Also, the price was right and i feel like I get more food too! So happy this place is right by my house!
I tried this with the vegetarian in laws today. It was a big hit with them, and us. We had lunch buffet with 4 veggie dishes (alu palak (spinach), shahi paneer, mixed veggie curry, and dal), 3 meat dishes - not tried this time. Plus samosa, rice, and freshly made naan and roti. The food was quite tasty, and not swimming in oil. The place has opened 5 months ago, and the owner is very friendly, chatting with us about his time in Calgary. He even got us a special dish from the back which was not on the menu... Wife said it was delicious. This is a small place, and I'd love to see it grow and thrive. Try this place... The high rating isn't an accident.

Very Good!. Tried this place for the first time last week, called in our order and made the quick drive over to pick up, as we were out and about anyway. The process was easy, the person I talked to was really helpful and answered my questions easily and clearly.
Full disclosure - we are pretty new to the world of Indian Food from restaurants. We cook a lot of curry at home, as we really like spice, we have even taken some cooking classes specifically for it, and we have a lot of friends who do the same, but figured it was time to give the authentic a try. Glad we started with this place, it was delicious! We went pretty basic this time, butter chicken, beef vindaloo, some coconut rice, some samosa's (beef and veggie, both were amazing) and of course, the glorious naan bread. All were very flavourful, and I would order all again.
My only complaint, if you can really call it that... We were asked if we wanted mild, medium or hot and we said hot - but there was absolutely no heat to any of it. I have made Vindaloo & butter chicken MUCH hotter than this myself, but I'm not sure if this is the norm, an honest mistake, or maybe he could just tell we were new and didn't want to scare us off?
Either way, looking forward to a chance to visit again, give a few more things a try.
Great Food, Fast Delivery. I ordered from here for the first time tonight after being quoted an hour and 20 minutes for delivery from Namskar (ridiculous). Turned out in my favour though - the food at The Spices is SO good - and spiced really nicely (it's not just a clever name)! The palak paneer came with lots of paneer too (MMM!). The service on the phone was really good and the delivery time was fast. You definitely earned a new regular customer tonight (and stole one from Namskar). Thanks!
Edit Aug 1 2016: ignore my previous review. Because of the excellent ratings and reviews I decided to try again and have recently been here a few more times in the last two months. Food has been excellent and I highly recommend. They have either improved or I just was unlucky with a few off days. Irregardless, I can now highly recommend this place and will continue to go back. Try the eggplant dish (one of their signature dishes). Really good.
Ok, I guess. I've eaten there twice now, eating from the buffet once and from the menu once. Food is ok, but the flavours seem to be missing depth. Usually I overeat at Indian restaurants but I didn't find myself really wanting more. The time we ordered from the menu, all the dishes were also oversalted. I won't be rushing back but I wouldn't be against trying again in the future to see if things improve.
Great quality Indian food overall! The only drawback is that the meat they use does not appear to be prepared by a butcher as the cuts are crude, container lots of cut bone pieces scattered throughout.
My wife drags me out to one of these restaurants every couple of months and I'm sure you can see that it is mostly against my will. I can honestly say this was by far my favourite. In fact, I loved it! We had the dinner for two ($29.99). Give it a try.
Best Indian food ever.. I am of Indian origin and improper Bostonian and I have traveled almost all over the globe but I hardly find authentic Indian food in any Indian restaurants but my last visit in Calgary I took my dinner in a newly opened Spices Indian cuisine restaurant. Food was absolutely delicious and service was also outstanding. I stayed in Calgary for one week and I tasted almost all appetizers and main dishes. Chicken tikka, Lamb curry, Butter Chicken masala, Shahi Paneer, Navarattan Korma ....all dishes were really tasty. I will surely go again there in my next visit. I highly recommend people to go there and enjoy real Indian food.

Fantastic. Just discovered this place this weekend and am glad we did! Delicious food and the service was great. I am Celiac and when I was ordering take out the chef came on the phone to talk to me. Fellow gluten free people this place is great! Most of the menu other than the obvious stuff (naan, etc) is gluten free. I'll be back for sure. Try the coconut rice, it is the best ever!
Excellent food. The naan at this restaurant is fresh. Really good food. I had the lunch buffet. The butter chicken was great! $12.99 is a very reasonable price for the buffet. Will come back again.

We are new to the Mount Pleasant area and are still discovering the neighbourhood gems. We have declared this our "go to" Indian restaurant. The service was amazing, the food was so delicious, excellent prices & the hours are great! We ordered the Dinner for Two and had leftover for the next day and it was only 29.99. Excellent overall experience at The Spices!
I just recently ordered here for the first time. I ordered the meal for 2 and an additional garlic naan. The food portions are an awesome size and tasted amazing. The samosas were quite small & all of my naans were burnt on one side. Other than that, it was great! Will order from here again for sure!! Keep up the good work.
This was the best Indian food I've ever had! The butter chicken and tandoori chicken were cooked to perfection! The palak paneer was full of flavor! The basmati rice was moist and fluffy. My only critique is the fish pakora was too salty. I can't wait to try other dishes from them! If I could give them 4.5 out of 5, I would!
Heading back from Banff craving some curry and found this gem of a place. Food was awesome; owners (dad and son) were extremely gracious. Great place for vegetarians and meat eaters. Kadai Chicken with the laccha paratha with a side of onions was absolutely heavenly!
The Chicken Kali Mirch is AMAZING, this is a dish for black pepper lovers! The shahi paneer is almost too bland for me, but my toddler has eaten an entire takeout container of it with tandoori baked naan. I will definitely eat here again for this fact, it's hard to find an Indian restaurant that has a legitimate toddler friendly food item.
Ordered catering for Birthday party, food was very good. Butter chicken and Rice pudding (kheer) is excellent. I will recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic north Indian food.
We went to this restaurant for dinner based on the reviews, and we were very pleased. The owner and his wife were very welcoming and they had very good traditional indian food. Highly recommend coming here.
After a long drive christmas day, we struggled to find a resturant that was open. Not only were they open till 9pm, they delivered.. and get this, it was the best indian food we've ever had!
