The people on here that gave it a low rating say that they had a bad experience with the service so take that with a grain of salt. If you want really good Indian food with great control of spices then this is your place. 6 times there and no complaints on the food at all! Seriously, try this place. If you like spice they have what you crave.
I went to this restaurant for the first time today. It was absolutely one of best south Indian experience I have ever had. I ordered the Chettinadu Chicken curry, which was one of my favorite back home in Chennai, couldn't believe it, the taste brought me back home. I finished off with a homemade mango kulfi which was recommended by the chef, it was amazing. I am totally make this my pin of favorite places.
Great food. Wife and I had the lamb vindaloo and butter chicken lunch special with a couple chai teas. Affordable, quick and yummy. Service was very quick.
Excellent food ! Great experience ordered for the first time and was delighted to find a big pack of mint chutney and salad in there which is usually charged in the bill in other restaurants but not here! And great taste as well!
Food and service were both great. We ordered Paneer Butter Masala and Masala Dosa. Both the dishes were flavorful and appropriately spiced. The ambiance was inviting, though it can feel cramped if crowded. The girl who served us was always smiling and welcoming.

Fantastic food, the environment needs help, but I come for the taste every time. Wonderful server as well. There lunch special is very reasonably priced as well.
Food is good, chef is amazing.
I will give them 4* for sure :)..Biryani, fish, chicken everything is really good.
Better food than any of the Raj Palaces.
Really Good Value!!!. Ive been to a few other Indian places in Calgary. They are always more expensive & small servings. I was going to have the same expectations for this place.
We had the garlic naan, saffron rice, butter chicken & beef coconut fry. The beef coconut fry surprised me the most
I was expecting this curry sauce stuff but its not. They actually got fresh coconut pieces in it. Its a real good blend of the coconut & spices. Butter chicken was awesome!!! Nice chunks of chicken thighs. They were fresh & piping hot.
I had a mango lassi which was awesome. All the food we got was right on at $50 including tips. We were full & left happy.
I recommend this place. Im glad to have nice Indian restaurant so close to home.
We love this place. We've only ever ordered takeout and we do our own brown basmati rice at home. We order about 10 things each time to ensure plenty of leftovers. Our favourites are butter chicken, lamb vindaloo, dal makhni, dal fry, channa masala, chicken tikka masala, kadai lamb, buna gosht, chicken vepedu, beef coconut fry, beef curry. Make sure you ask for spicy if you like it hot - our kids can eat the vindaloo otherwise.
Very good service and quality of food is exceptional.
Raj Palace a perfect Indian Restaurant with different style of food and taste.
Over all the service was good. :) Keep it up
Amazing and incredible food. The favors are so incredible and what a great deal. There are many places to eat in Calgary, but this is one of my newer go to for Indian places.
We have really enjoyed our visits to Raj Palace. Service is always good here, polite but not pushy. The food has always been delicious as well! Have tried the dosas as well as a few of the curry dishes and have not been let down.
We went with family with our friend recommendation. we had best food, the somas are excellent and felt like food at home. Biriyani was very nice
Nice Food....Tastyyyyy. Went there with friends, had enjoyed the food..and had fun..The resto has very good ambience which gives you a good feel.
Good food good service. Surprisingly delighted. We just walked by and discovered this place. Definitely coming again. The waitress recommended two items and they are both delicious. The starters are a bit more than we expected, almost same size as main.
There is nothing more important or sacred to Raj Palace than their customer's trust and choice, I can bet on that by looking at their high quality standard of food and can never miss a chance to visit it and hog as much as i can. it is a must try delight for Non Vegetarians...
“delicious food and great service”
A great place for people who love Indian food. We were surprised at what great value the lunch buffet was and with really tasty dishes - I especially liked the kadai paneer. In addition the service was friendly and very attentive. Highly recommended for an authentic Indian dining experience.
Great place to have indian food, excellent size of food portions and value for money pricing. Specially i recommend the dosas and biryani. excellent
Fully licensed. Raj palace royal oak- fully licensed now
Above the competition. A perfect blend of excellent food, good service and decent prices! 100% would recommend to a friend.
Excellent! !!. I ate there last night and will definitely go back. The food was delicious and the potions were very large compared to other Indian restaurants I frequent. I ordered the chicken kurma and while it was much spicier than I am used to it was great. The lamb roganjosh was tender and the sauce was very tasty. The garlic naan is some of the best I have tried. I will be recommending this restaurant to anyone looking for some authentic Indian cuisine.
Very Authentic and delicious food and Gluten Free friendly
Large Portions. It's really easy to over order at Raj Palace because one bowl of food is enough to feed two people. At the $12-$15 mark, the portions are certainly generous and the food is quite flavourful.
The butter sauce (for our Paneer Butter Masala) was quite flavourful. Definitely worth getting as Butter Chicken, but for those that don't like a really sweet sauce, you might want to avoid this. Personally, mixed with the naan and rice, I thought it was great. Huge chunks of paneer (cheese) in this dish and huge chunks of meat in the Chicken Kurma make Raj Palace's dishes quite filling.
And of course our meal was complimented by the Garlic Naan which had large chunks of garlic embedded in the bread. I really enjoy the taste and texture of garlic mixed with the sauces, so this was an immediate win for me.
For an Indian restaurant out in the suburbs, Raj Palace is a nice find for anyone looking for a hearty ethnic meal. It's currently under the radar, so service is pretty quick and it's easy to grab a table.
Great place....some friends don't have good taste buds. So I was waiting for this place to open as its close to home and when it did, a friend said it was not that great :(
I ignored his comments and checked it out for myself......this place has GREAT FOOD and staff are really friendly. :)
Had dinner with my mother last night and she loved it also and we are of Indian origin.
Chilli paneer and maharaja dosa where awesome, see for yourself!
Great South Indian food - we are regulars as its close to home. We are regulars at Raj Palace frequenting the Harvest Hills location at first (last two years, maybe more) but the Royal Oak restaurant now ,since it is closer to home. Since it first open (at Harvest Hills), portion sizes have gotton smaller,, but still decent. The dosas are very good here...paper thin dosa and masala dosa are our go to. The butter chicken is also good, but I think the recipe has changed over the years...less cream now which Is not a good thing for my taste buds. Also, good are the naans, eggplant, okra and briyanis. The mango lassi is great too and servers are friendly and polite!
My new favourite restaurant. This has been my second time at this restaurant, and both times it was an enjoyable experience. The staff is friendly and service was great. But most importantly the food was amazing, truly enjoyed it, I hope they do well as I would like to comeback many times in the future.
Birthday lunch @ Raj Palace, Royal Oak. A most delicious lunch at Raj Palace, Royal Oak!. I was sorry to see his downtown location close down but am so thankful to Raj for opening up his restaurant in the NW.
We decided to start with an appetizer Fried Fish - a most delicious way to cook pompfret. The fish was a smothered with a spice rub and then we went with the having the fish cooked in the tandoori oven instead of deep-fried. The fish came all dressed with some charred bits that added another level of taste. The fresh slices of red onion and slices of carrot added freshness to the fish dish. There was also a wedge of lemon and a little light green yogurt sauce which went so well with the fish. Very impressed with this fish dish! We made sure we pull apart the whole fish as all the bits on the fish was equally delicious.
We ordered the following:
- Goat Biryani (Hyderabadi Dum) - love this dish as the goat pieces are cooked in the saffron and spiced rice, comes with rata (yogurt sauce) to cool things off a bit. Watch for bones!
- Prawn Goaan Curry - Very well done, nice plump shrimp still tender swimming in the coconut curry. Lightly spiced and great for our palate.
- Chana Masala Curry - Very nicely spiced chickpeaswith - dad's fave dish!
- Okra Masala - Our fave dish - cut up okra cooked with onions, diced tomatoes, spices to give the lovely green bits of okra and their little seeds a most wonderful taste.
- Steamed Basmati Rice - just one bowl 'cos we ordered the Biryani.
- Plain Naan - goes very well with all the above dishes, especially the Prawn Curry.
I had mentioned it was a birthday and out came 4 little dishes of hot carrot halwa and one gulag jamun ball each! A nice touch of sweet at the end of our meal! Thanks, Raj Palace!
We loved the Goat Biryani so much we ordered another one to take home with us!
A great wood carved elephant greets you when you walk into the restaurant. There's ample parking in the front of the restaurant. Half booths and tables make up the space in the restaurant. I see that the restaurant is now also doing a lunch special from Monday to Friday except Tuesday ('cos they are closed.)
Don't go anyway, dear Raj Palace! We'll be back.
Good food!. I was waiting for this place to open as there are not many good restaurants in this area. Tried it for the first time and, yum! I don't know much about East Indian food but this place is delish and apparently the food is from the south. They have very friendly staff, which are all very helpful. Food is full of flavors and spices. Non-spicey is also an option. Will be coming back.
Deeelicious!. We had been watching for Raj Palace in Royal Oak to open and it was well worth the wait. Amazing food, gracious host and homey feel. We visited on day 4 of them being open and will look forward to the full menu being available. Couldn't come up with a complaint if we tried. Will definitely be back!
