This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend, we ate the Chicken Tikka Masala & Lamb Biryani both of which were spectacular! The restaurant was much cleaner than anticipated from the reviews online, obviously it has gone through a face lift. If you are looking for well priced authentic East Indian food in a fairly casual setting this place is a great bet. Head elsewhere if you are looking for an upscale restaurant only (which will be overpriced compared to here considering this is Calgary).
Food is delicious. The atmosphere is severely lacking. For the standard Indian menu, the pricing is little more then other places in the city. The meat is usually cooked beautifully and if you ask them to make the dish hot, they will.
I have driven past this restaurant many times but have never thought twice about it. But if you're looking for authentic Indian food, this is the place! The lamb biryani (or biryani is general) is beyond my expectations. Definitely worth multiple visits!
Skylark is a great authentic Indian restaurant. I have now been here twice and had good experiences both times. The food is prepared with care and made to order. The kind lady taking our order both times I believe is the owner. She always asks what the spice level the people in your party like and they cater to your tastes. The menu is extensive with authentic Indian dishes. I would definitely recommend starting with the papri chaat as it is one of my favourite indian dishes. Next time I come it will be for the lunch buffett...I cant wait.
Food is literally to die for!. Very good food with great indian spices and flavors. Nan bread is not soggy and in oil like in other places. Buffet is hot and fresh. They have lots of choices on the buffet that no one can be dissapointed.
Consistently good Indian especially good for takeout, reasonably priced. We order twice a month from Skylark: favourites are chicken vindaloo, prawn masala, bhindi, Tarkha daal, shahi paneer, ghobi paratha. The butter chicken is also tasty and so are the snacks like chole bathura. Get some sweets too!
Quiet little spot with a nice buffet. Butter chicken, curry and rice to your heart's content. Dessert section looked a bit dodgy so I avoided it. Some timbit type desserts at the til to buy for later if desired.
Most Authentic Indian..place where all Indians go to eat!. Don't let the location fool you. This is by far the most traditional Indian restaurant in Calgary with clean and clear flavors. Not heavy curry's soaked in OIL and full of masala that will keep reminding you days after. The owner is extermely likeable and friendly. Favorites recommended are Fish or Veg Pakora, Butter Chicken, Goat, Aloo Ghobi, Yellow Daal. Add Paratha or Roti (break from same old Naan). The traditional Indian snack menu is like no other in Calgary. Puri Chaat is DELICIOUS and cannot be duplicated anywhere, Gol Gappe or Pani Puri, Aloo Parnatha and bundi yogurt & Aloo tiki with Chickpeas (options to samosa). For dessert try the Ras Malai their's is the best anywhere hands down or try Kheer with cream. An Indian Mom would be happy to eat here!!

Scary hood...but good food. Skylark Restaurant serves up some mean Indian food. Overall the curries we had were quite flavorful (quite colon clensing too) with the highlight being the spiced up goat. The beef and vegetable samosas were very good. In particular, the vegetable samosa was spicy, moist and crispy on the outside. Easily the best I have had in Calgary. For dessert, the galub jamun was the best I have ever had. There were some disappointments...chicken vindaloo was bad, garlic naan was awful (they had no fresh garlic, used powder), and service was slow but overall Skylark was exceptional value. 6 of us ate for $156. So...the décor is bad, the place is in a strip mall, but I'd go back again...just not on a Friday night. If you like it spicy, Skylark is the place for you. Check out their dessert counter too!
