My husband and I eat at Ginger Beef about once every two months... Sometimes more frequently if we're feeling fancy!
We love this restaurant because #1 the food is always hot & ready really quickly without compromising on quality or flavour. The dishes are always as described and we have yet to have a bad experience at this location or at the country hills location. Both are great!
The staff are always very diligent and friendly by the way. Most of the time we do take-out but once in a while we enjoy to eat-in. They do have a special discount if you pick-up and pay cash, so that's what we normally do. We use the online ordering from their website and they are very good about food allergies btw! We just write it as a comment and no issues. They don't have a problem calling us if something has an allergen, so we can switch it.
Their lunch buffet is the only thing that I would change.... I'd prefer to see at least 2 more choices for the buffet and more sweet & sour sauce on the chicken (or have some on the side). I love that they have the dumplings and their wonton soup surfing the buffet cause those are two of our favorite items.
The last time we went to Ginger Beef was when they were still situated at Willow Park. So we went to try their lunch buffet. It’s smaller than it used to be. But out favourites were still there. Their ginger beef was tasty and not too spicy. The two soups were both tasty and hot. Most buffets only have lukewarm soup. The cost was reasonable but it would have been nice to have a small dessert to end the meal.
Honestly I think I am addicted to their ginger beef with their special hot sauce. They even sell the hot sauce in jars if you want to take it home!
Had the all you can eat buffet here today, the food was fresh service was friendly and they kept the food topped up and it tasted great. A bit too many deep fried items but for $12 you get a great meal. The two choices of soups and dumplings were great!!
We had the peking duck and it was amazing! The skin was crispy and the crepes were nice an hot! We love dining here or ordering take out on the weekends. The salt and pepper squid is tasty and has the perfect amount of heat. I would recommend having this at the restaurant as it can begin to get soggy during take out. Most of the time the food is amazing but they do have their off days. Regardless this place is definitely worth a try if you haven't been here.
There are 10 items on Ginger Beef Express' dim sum menu. I don't think that really matters when soup dumplings are on the menu. Not an easy item to make, nor find in Calgary in my opinion, but they have them here at Ginger Beef Express of all places.
The other items on the dim sum menu are basic dim sum items like shrimp dumplings and shui mai, and they're decent. Fresh and made to order, they'll do in a pinch. However, the price for items is around $5 to $6, which can be on the higher end for dim sum.
Considering the lack of dim sum spots in the south, this place can satisfy a much-needed gap. And yes, I know it's a chain restaurant you wouldn't think twice about skipping, but if you know what to order, it might be worth a stop by for a quick lunch.
It was okay. $12-15 lunch menu for 1 main dish, rice, 1 spring roll and a bowl of hot & sour soup isn't priced too bad. The portions are large. Since it is called Ginger Beef Bistro House, I ordered the ginger beef - it was good....but I have had better in Calgary. The service leaves a lot to be desired...busy lunch hour yesterday and there was 2 servers (maybe husband and wife, not sure). Definitely not service with a smile here. All in all, I will probably visit again, but won't be recommending to friends or in a hurry to go back.
Very good. Place was packed. Service was very friendly. We ordered the stuffed green onion cakes, wor won ton soup, ginger beef, and pan fried prawns with Chinese mushrooms and broccoli. All were excellent. This was the best Chinese food we have had in a long time. We will definitely be back.
Very good dim sum for weekday lunch. Pan fried pork buns, xiao long bao, house made pork dumplings, lamb noodle soup.... The best I have found in Sough Calgary
Wow, Subperb. I have eaten plenty of Chinese food over the years , my wife and i ordered delivery were dumbfounded and almost in tears over the amazing quality and taste of this food. Every item we had was impressive , the wonton soup , spring rolls, ginger beef , beef and broccoli, chicken fried rice , sweet and sour pineapple chicken are all superb . Not a word of a lie we discussed how much we liked our dinner for a good hour , we couldn't believe it . I vowed to make this the only Chinese food place to order from now on.
I highly recommend giving Ginger Beef a try.
Great food!. This new location still offers the same great food quality (their dumplings now taste better in my opinion). However, the dining area is much smaller and takeout is advised over eating in the restaurant. Reservations are recommended if you do decide to eat at the restaurant, though they only take reservations for 3+ people.
First time here, I like the decor I like the atmosphere, the food was really good, but be warned the Peking duck takes up to 30 minutes to make. overall highly enjoyable would recommend it.
I think this place has pretty good westernized Chinese food. I've had takeout a number of times and had their lunch buffet a few times too. Very reasonable prices. The buffet is large, tons of items. Always fresh even if going later for lunch. I think it was only 12 bucks too. Service is a bit brash but efficient.
Excellent dim sum. For those who don't know this, Ginger Beef in Willowpark has started to service an excellent dim sum on the weekend. This started about 2 years ago. I had seriously doubt if they could meet my quality expectation when I first tired them, but I was blown away! To my surprise, the quality measures up and this is one of three places I would go for dim sum in Calgary. Try their BBQ pork pastry or their fen-gor (a steamed dumpling) which is the best in town. As for their dinning menu, I don't eat there as most are Chinese food for White folks.
Ate here for lunch.... Ate here for lunch for the first time and the dimsum was better than expected. I have ordered from this restaurant but mainly for dinner purposes. I was surprised at how good their dimsum is (since I expected worse since they are a westernized chinese restaurant). I would definitely come here for a dimsum lunch ( it's not downtown and close for me!)
Definitely try out their lunch AND dinner menu.
Some of the best Chinese food in Calgary! Lunch buffet is only $10, service is excellent, and everything on the menu is delicious!
New Competition for Quality Dim Sum in Calgary. After more than 5 years of eating at U & Me and Forbidden City almost every weekend, I just find the quality of Chinese Dim Sum in these two fabulous restaurants starting to deteriorate a bit. So, there was no other place I could find until I found an advertisement on a newspaper showing Dim Sum was to be served at Willow Park Village Ginger Beef. I was ecstatic for a moment and thought it was surreal. At the end, it was true. I enjoyed their pork dumplings (Siu My in Cantonese) and shrimp dumplings a lot. It truly tasted like the ones you get in Vancouver or Hong Kong. Also, the dishes weren't so oily. Overall, six dishes were ordered and it costed me about $25. I personally would definitely come back for Dim Sum. Haven't really had Chinese Buffet for a long time but sure definitely will have some in the future.
Where you can meet the Prime Minister.... I am not exactly an expert for Chinese food, but this place has a very good buffet with a huge variety for a very reasonable price. One day Stephen Harper came in to have lunch and the staff was not too surprised. Apparently one of the view things where he and I have the same opinion about...
This is where I'm going. It's really good. 9.95 buffet.
...the steamed BBQ pork buns were up to snuff, the dough being light, delicate and not too sweet while the filling by contrast was rich, porky and devoid of grisle that you find in lesser tea houses.
