Still some of the best donair in town, and the staff are speedy and friendly. Try their baklava as well!
Amazing place and staff! A must try! The best of the best!
The food speaks for itself, but the staff are just outstanding. A must when in Calgary
Loved it. Best donair and amazing owners
Friendly staff, clean dining area and quality food at a good value. Nice portion and ingredients on the chicken shawarma. Also, the baklava here are OUT OF THIS WORLD!
Was a tasty quick meal, I enjoyed it. If I could give 3.8, I would have. Good combination and good sauce mixture, a bit sweet and a bit spicy. Quite busy at lunch time during the weekdays. Just not sure if the beef is 100% beef, as it looked like a mixture of beef and starch?
AMAZING FOOD
AMAZING STAFF
I used the Chick Pea to cater an office meeting recently and everything was fantastic. Will definitely be using them again
I've been going here for 10 years... And never tried their falafel salad until now. If any of you know me, I don't eat meat and this has only been recent.
It's small interior is nothing fancy. You can find tables for a quick bite or sit along the windows. The newer owners are nice, maybe not as friendly as the originals. The chicken shawarma was my favourite when I are chicken. Always delicious. This time I settled with their falafel and it was still moist and not dry.
This place gets busy at the noon hour, usually before and after 1:30 you don't have to wait as long. Always a favourite of mine.
Finally came here for a lunch wrap. A donair shop on the ground floor of an older downtown office building. Interior was spartan. Had seating for about 30 diners. Tried the donair (beef) wrap ($9). There was a set of roasters, but the served beef was pre-sliced, and kept warm. You choose the type and amount of sauces (garlic, chili and sweet) and vegetables (hummus, parsley, pickled cabbage - neon pink, lettuce, tomato, onion, olives, pickles, cucumber) for the wrap. I couldn't walk past the baklava without trying one ($1.25) and 2 falafels (@$1) a la carte.
The donair was a flavourful and salty, but OK with all the veggies in the wrap. The bakalva was good, but I suspect it used corn syrup instead of honey. The falafels were crisp and full sized, but too salty for my taste. It had a fair kick of spicy flavour too. May be better in a wrap with veggies.
Overall the wrap was tasted good and was good value, better priced than most food trucks.
I would return.
Great place, nice and cozy, food is excellent, service is great. I personally loved the chicken shawarma, makes you feel you're back in the old country.
My favorite go to place for donairs at lunch. Decent price, super tasty. Really can't go wrong. Should definitely try the beef donair with cheese!
The aroma will beckon you to the door and the taste will bring you back - over and over again.
Don't forget to get there early as the anticipating customers are lined up to outside the door.
Everything is good!
Ew! The food sucks. I never knew tahini is a watered down yogurt drink... Gross... Anyway it's probably the only place around so people go ... Also from the reviews it's clear that many people haven't actually had good Mediterranean food cause this is definetly not it.
Always a delight. Just had lunch there again today, have been going for years. It's always fresh and a delight. I don't know what they do different, but everything at Chick Pea is amazing, fantastic donairs and shawarma.
They're busy for a reason. They don't vary too much, but they are great at what they do. Donairs Swarama and salads. The assembly line was running well on my visit.
Tasty food, good value. Decided to try a new place for lunch the other day. Great food, good price. $7 for a falafel schwarma? yes please. Very tasty. And good desserts too. I will be back.
My only complaint is the size - it was so much, I couldn't finish. Would be nice to have a smaller option. :)
Tess goes to Chickpeas and has Delicious Shwarama. Schwaram? Shawarama?. There was a long line up at Chick Pea's, which I took as a good sign that the food would be worth the wait. The line moved quickly and I ordered my chicken schwarma with everything except garlic or onions (I have to work with people and they don't need to know what I had for lunch by smelling me!) and it was definitely satisfying. All the different ingredients (tahini, hummus, cabbage, pickles ....) worked so well together and I was a happy camper. I will definitely go back for more! The staff were also very efficient and friendly!
Love this place!! Quick service despite the lines at lunch. Quality meat and fresh vegetables. I can't say enough good things about this spot.

They have the best she arms (don air or whatever) that ice ever had in Calgary. Their salads are fantastic as well.
I often order shawarma elsewhere and am always disappointed because it's never as good as Chick Pea.
Good Food. First time visiting this place and it won't be the last.
Had met a friend there for lunch, and it was really good. We ordered a Tabouli salad, a Chicken Salad and an Donair.
The Tabouli was freshly made and very acidic which i love, as it compliments all ingredients.
The chicken salad was good, topped with all Doniar toppings and sauces and the Donair was good, everything was good. It's hard to mess up simple things like this, so if the ingredients are fresh and well prepared it makes it enjoyable which it was!!
Overall for the price and where its located, a definite place to go. In the summer the line is out of the door so go early and beat the rush.
Will be back .
Gem. The place looks deceiving from the front, but the food is amazing. Great value, fresh, quality ingredients. I like to be early as the line up can be out the door at lunch if you're too late.
Excellent falafel. It tastes like they put pumpkin and pie spices in it, it's heavenly. My only complaint would be a bit better quality for the other pita toppings, cabbage would be awesome.
Long lineups for a reason. Discovered this place on my first day of work and fell in love. Always very busy at lunch, for a reason, but the service is very quick AND friendly. Food quality is not the greatest, but for the price you get great value. The chicken shawarma with hummus, hot and garlic sauce is to die for... Still trying to decide whether I like this or the Falafel king more!
Always delicious & always great service!
Finally good Donairs in Calgary. Finally found a place with Good tasting donairs. It seems that every place in Calgary tastes the same but not this place. Donair was quite large too and they had many different topping options although I prefer the classic lettuce onion and loads of sweet sauce. If you are a true donair connoisseur give this place a try.
Worth The Wait in Line. So I started working downtown and today was my first day. decided to go out for lunch and see what options are out there. I stumbled upon a huge line to the chick pea so i figured somethings gotta be good here, and it must be worth waiting in the huge lineup. So about 8 minutes in line it was my turn even with the huge line behind me the two "attractive" girls were very patient with my(since it was my first time and was a little lost on what to order). I ended up going with there chicken sandwich loaded, let me say that this thing was hugem definately worth the nine bucks as i didnt eat a thing after that. Taste wise this thing was excellent bursting with flavour and full of healthy veggies. I will defiantely be back here.
i hope to explore all the food near my office if i can refrain from always eating here, so stay tuned for more reviews of the 8 ave restaraunts..
$9 gets you an awesome chicken schawarma. Pricey for takeout, but it's worth it. Staff is friendly too. Get there before 11:45 if you want to avoid the line.
I have been going here for years now and I must say that by far they have the best pita wraps in the city What's best now is they are opening on Saturdays beginning in the new year so if you don't work downtown and have never tried these guys out now you have a chance
Good donairs, but come early.. At lunch Chick Pea can get really busy due to its proximity to the Husky and other downtown office buildings. But the little deli has some decent donairs and other Mediterranean delights.
A good flavourful donair can be found for under $10. Good tender meat wrapped in a regular pita, it definitely satisfies for lunch.
However, come early. While there are plenty of seats, the line gets long and the cafe fills pretty quickly.

A couple summers ago I went on a hunt for the best falafel in Calgary. Come to think of it, I never officially crowned a winner. Well there is no better time than the present so congratulations to the Chick Pea for making my favorite falafel in the city! It wins for having the right combo of ingredients and textures, all wrapped up in one, not too messy and falling out all over the place, manageable package. Man, now I'm craving falafel.
