Definitely a great place for some authentic Korean soup. I love their kimchi stew and it’s flavors really hits the spot. Far drive for me but worth it
Authentic experience & flavours. Large dishes with good quantities of meats & seafood. Banchan & unlimited rice come with your meal. Reservations highly recommended due to tiny space! Pro tip: Go with people who are familiar with Korean food so you can: A) get recs for ordering & B) try a variety of dishes! (4/5)
2018. 04. 23. I had a lunch with my previous manager nearby the Chinook Center. The name of the restaurant called Han Corea Korean Restaurant, which is a small Korean Restaurant, is hidden in the community in front of Chinook Mall. It's a friendly family based Korean Restaurant, which services surprised and authentic Korean Dishes. Besides that, it offers free self-serve water, tea, and rice, which is a nice! We arrived the restaurant right after 12 pm on the weekday. It was still very busy. But, we were very lucky and found the table fast. We had very amazing experience eating at this restaurant. We only ordered the pork bone Stew with bulgogi, tofu, enoki mushrooms, onion, green onion, rice cakes and cellophane noodles to share. The taste of the soup was great depth and flavour. The bulgogi was very chewy. It was a super large portion, which could serve more than 3 people. The small cold dishes were great too, which were including bean sprouts, marinated egg, daikon and seaweed, soy sauce dipping sauce, mushrooms, salad, kimchi and cold style pancake. They were tasty and authentic. The owner and servers of the restaurant are all Korean. I guess that's why the food at Han Corea Restaurant are authentic and delicious. Highly Recommend people to try out Han Corea Korean Restaurant.
Definitely a surprise! A small but friendly family restaurant. Food was very authentic and we'll made. The side dishes were amazing. Apparently they are ever changing so its definitely a nice surprise. Had the cold noodles hybrid. Definitely an awesome summer dish. Ordered the pork broth. It has no additives so you add in your own flavouring as needed. That's perfect for people who don't like things too salty. Self serve red rice, what's not to like. Great for family and small groups.
A hole in the wall for sure! This small little restaurant is hidden in the community in front of chinook center. Service was great and the food was good. They offer free self serve water, tea and rice which is a nice!
Very interesting food and experience in general. Had the bimibap and love all the little dishes that it comes with. The serve yourself rice and water is an interesting touch. It was not cheap but I would probably go back.
Very nice selection of soups. Flavourful and great for winter. The soondae tasted very good and the offal was nice and tender. Self serve rice and water in the side. Will definately go back to try the rest of the menu.
This place is legit. Han Corea is in the middle of nowhere; an industrial hidden gem. It reminds me a lot of Won Jung Gak (in Edmonton) in terms of whereabouts. Closeup of the door. TOO cute. Further proof of how industrial/middle of nowhere Han Corea is. We came on a Friday evening around 7:45pm. The place was packed so we had to put our names down and waited about 15 minutes to snag a spot. The inside is small but charming. Some Korean talk show had all the Koreans inside enthralled. Good to see majority of the people were Korean.
Super tiny inside and the customer service was mediocre. But the food was pretty great. It was very authentic and had a ton of flavour in everything we ordered. The spicy seafood and pork stirfy was not as spicy as I thought it would be. And it tasted great with the free rice when mixed! The side dishes were also super yummy, they gave you plenty. The seafood pancake didn't have a lot of seafood in it, but it was super thick and delicious. Something you shouldn't order too often though haha.
This is my favourite Korean restaurant. I've tried a few dishes from this place and they are all so good. The soup has so much flavour but without msg guys!!! This is HUGE for me as almost all restaurants(esp Asian food) use msg to add more flavour. But I can tell that they use a lot of bones/seafood to make their soup base. Some ppl may find it too "light" for their taste but my gosh this place is perfect for me.
The is what you get for $15. Free refill for Korean red rice, side dishes and water/tea.
Food tastes a bit light for me. But I am someone who dip everything into soy sauce. So don't relay on my taste test.
Not as many item available compared to other restaurants. But the variety covers what most people eat.
This is a surprising good restaurant. Rather authentic, not that I know what a real Korean eateries looks like. But I feel this is Korean enough for me. It's seems targeting at Korean in the neighborhood.
I don't usually write reviews, but when I do. There must be something special.
Sorry for my English.
Thanks to Amgla's recommendation, I came to Han Corea tonight. Like she said, it's a hole in the wall. We missed it while driving in the dark. At night, it looks like we're in some industrial/ ghetto area. We were pleasantly surprised to find out how clean and customer-friendly the place is. (Water, tea and rice are self-served, so you can get as much as you want.) The side dishes are good, some of them are a bit different than what you'd get at a regular Korean restaurant, in Calgary, at least. The pork bone soup was still boiling when it came in the stone pot. It's my first time here and I love it already. Will definitely come back!
We called couple hours prior to arriving and they were able to accommodate us!
What I love about this place is they are opened 6 days a week till 1am (last call @ 12am), which is amazing as my family loves to eat late and it's hard to find restaurants open after 10. The other great thing is self serve tea/water and unlimited rice.
We all shared the squid and pork in spicy sauce and the pork bone hot pot. Both dishes were delicious and full of flavour. Lots of meat on the pork bones. And they had some unique side dishes that I haven't seen at a Korean restaurant before too.
Recommend booking reservation.
I am actually really surprised to read the negative reviews on here about their service, I hope that the next time I go back I don't encounter that but I had excellent service when I came here. R and I came on a Monday evening, around 7:30 and there were only 2 tables occupied and we were able to be seated immediately. As others have stated, there is unlimited rice available and it is self-serve, along with the tea/water. We ordered the Spicy Pork & Squid plate to share, it is meant for 2 people (as stated on the menu) and was $35.98. As with most Korean restaurants, our meal also came with an assortment of sides including kimchi and bean sprouts, along with 4 others. The food came out quick, and was delicious. It is spicy, so if you're not able to eat spice, I would suggest asking them to make adjustments for you. Our server was really nice and checked on us a few times throughout our meal. I would highly recommend this restaurant, it sounds like the negative reviews are during busy times - not that its an excuse but maybe try going during off hours, they are open until 1AM!
We visited for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed our food. Its a unique venue worth seeking out. The only real challenge here is finding parking. Service was efficient and friendly. We shared a beef bulgogi and a seafood pancake. Both were very good, with a homemade appeal. Every meal comes with many varieties of kim chi sides. The potato and sliced bean were our favourites, although we couldn't fault any of them. As the menu offers many Korean dishes, we know we will return! Thanks Han Corea.
Very delicious authentic Korean food, staff are very friendly! Lots of side dishes! Kitchen is very quick at preparing the food. They open very late as well, definitely recommended!
Such a hidden gem! Tiny but very homey. Food were fresh and tasty, generous selection of side dishes, unlimited refill of rice and water. 👍 I would definitely come back for the pork bone hot pot. It was one of the tastiest I've tried in town.
My friends and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night and there was a table for us right as we got in, but later on became very busy. There were many Korean and Chinese people that I saw coming here. The food is very good and traditional. There is also a wooden box full of spoons and metal chopsticks, just like in Korea. But they also provide wooden chopsticks too. The rice, water and tea was unlimited and self served which was fine. Service was pretty good up until more people came then they paid less attention to us. But overall, everyone was very nice and respectful. Price was decent for the quality and quantity of the food. The portion of food is more than other Korean restaurants.
The restaurant is very small, maybe 5-6 tables in the whole the restaurant. If you have a large group (>6) than I won't recommend this place.
There is a parking lot and street parking available.
Very small place and in a random location. Best to look at google maps and see what the outside of the restaurant looks like before going because it is easy to get lost.
Couple of my friends showed me this hidden gem, and I've been here quite a few times. It is a tiny family owned restaurant, and you self serve rice and water. The food is delicious and fresh! If you are near Chinook, you definitely have to try this place out. Another plus is that they open late!
This place is amazing if you want to have a super late dinner! They extended their business hours to 1:00 am!! Delicious food and big portions!! Perfect place to share with your friends (if you don't mind everyone's chopsticks dipping into the same plate). Free water and rice refill makes this place even better!! Definitely recommend this place to try to experience a "Korean late night dinner" experience!!
I love this place. It is one of my best korean food in town. They have unlimited and self served rice and water!! AWESOME. even though they dont have many choices on the menu, but the food is really good. other thing is it open till 12 pm, if you want some spicy bbq stuff in a late night, you should definitely try it out!
A really small secluded restaurant. Self serve station with unlimited rice and tea/water. It's a bit pricy but the quality is good. You will leave smelling like bbq though! The eel is done really well here. And I especially like the pork belly. Their side dishes is a great variety. It's always busy here and best thing is, they open until 1am everyday except Tuesday when their closed. Even Sunday's they are (versus zomato says they close at 9).
Best Korean restaurant in Calgary.
Selection is limited compared to other Korean restaurants in Calgary (bibimbap is sadly missing here) but you won't find anything more authentic and satisfying than Han Corea.
The side dishes are what keep me coming back. Most Korean restaurants serve about 3-5 side dishes with your meal. Han Corea goes above and beyond and typically offers 8 side dishes... and I always go back for seconds. They also tend to change it up from time to time.
However, if you're looking for bibimbap or BBQ at the table as most people expect from a Korean restaurant, you won't find that here.
Like what most of the other reviews have mentioned, this is a hole in the wall. How you know it's legit authentic Korean food is probably the fact that it's connected to the Korean community center. It's a small restaurant that can seat roughly 20 people. There is a unlimited water and rice station where you can help yourself. Service is prompt; food comes out as quick as you order it. This family owned establishment provides satisfaction guaranteed Korean food. You'll definitely walk out feeling content and big-bellied.
Definitely a hole in the wall. I'd describe the food here as home-cooked. There's also a rice cooker in the corner where you can get unlimited refills of rice. It's also helpful to bring a smartphone with translation here when ordering. Very authentic flavours.
Side Dish. You get unlimited side dish and rice!
Most Authentic Korean Restaurant. The Soondae-jungol is really good. Side dishes are very authentic and fresh. Everthing tastes like home food. All of their soups are amazing. I did not like their L.A galbi though. It was too sugary.
Does anyone looking for an authentic Korean restaurant? This is it! Tastes way better than any other restaurants, even in Korea. I strongly recommend this restaurant for Korean in Calgary.
An authentic Korean hole in the wall. Delicious spicy octopus stew with egg drop soup and then seaweed fried rice stirred in at the end of the meal. We also had fish cake soup, bulgogi and a tasty selection of banchan. Really good real Korean food
