We love their family size/ very generous portions of food orders. Great Chinese food for the entire family, perfect for Sunday dine out. Usual order includes house special chow mein, sweet and sour pork and beef broccoli.
Definitely not a place I would have bothered trying if it weren't for my friend who suggested it. In the hood, forest lawn, this tiny restaurant in a strip mall can be easily overlooked. Inside is small and kind of drab, however looks are decided because the food is delicious!! I was surprised how tasty the food was and how quick the food came (it was all freshly cooked to order). The most impressive part was how HUGE the portions were!! One order of seafood chow mein cost around $14 and was a massive, heaping plateful! Same with the salt & pepper seafood, just wow. And everything tasted great. Their portions are family style size so 2 dishes were too much for two of us to finish and we had enough to take as leftovers. Would come again when in the area. Many more items to try and their hot pot is recommended!

Great food!. I've always ordered here and I have never been disappointed. I even sacrifice a 30-minute drive just to come here for the food! And by the way, management has not changed, it's just the the normal people running the store went on vacation to China (They haven't been in a long time). Food quality was still the same, just a bit disorganized getting it to us. You can't blame them though. They're new at the job!

I think its changed hands owners . I thought was not same guality as in past . Ordered sweet and sour pork and special fried rice . Not same guality as in past . Anybody know if its under new managment or changed . My past experince was excellent with the food
This is your hole in the wall Chinese restaurant. It isn't the prettiest nor cleanest of restaurants, but the food is amazing and the staff is really friendly. Since we don't get ginger beef out east, this is where I go for my fix. Also the beef hot pot, Kai-lan, salt and pepper squid, chicken with cashews, BBQ pork, are just a few great dishes to try.
Family Favorite. My family has been going to this restaurant for 30 years. We have always loved it. We have watched as the lovely owner got married and had his first child. They catered my brother's wedding, my daughter's christening and then my mom's funeral. We love this place and the food is amazing. Favorites are the salt and pepper squid and the roast pork, and Peking style pork chops. Lots of families I know go here as well. Good food, great prices!
Xcellent chinese restaurant. Very savory Chinese food. Free soup comes with your meal. We ordered assorted seafood chow mein, roast pork (yummy) beef with broccoli, shrimp fried rice.
Roasted PORK. I always come eat roasted pork here when i am in the area.

Unexpected and pleasantly surprised. Had an appointment in the medical centre next to the strip mall, and decided to try this place for dinner.
On the outside, it doesn't look like much, and on the inside it was rather grundgy. However, don't let those appearances discourage you. The food here is very good, and won't disappoint.
We ordered 3 dishes :
oyster hot pot - the snow peas were cooked perfectly, nice crunch to them. The dish wasn't overly salty, more on the bland side but that is a good thing ! I didn't care much for the oysters though, it was breaded and wasn't deep fried well enough.
gai lan with shrimp - full of flavour, arrived at the table hot. The shrimp was cooked to perfection, was not overcooked and slightly translucent. Again, wasn't overly salty which is something i prefer.
crispy chicken (half) - arrived at the table piping hot. The skin was very crispy, yet the meat was full of juice. It was extremely delectable, wish I ordered the full chicken instead.
house soup (free) - lotus root with pork bones. Usually house soup is ok, but this was very good. Had the right flavouring and the lotus root was cooked perfectly soft. We were even offered a refill, which I've never encountered before in any other restaurant.
I was so pleasantly surprised with the meal I decided to order 2 fried noodle dishes to go, shredded pork fried noodles, and beef fried rice noodles (I noticed another table order fried noodles and the portions were humungous). Again, the flavour was outstanding without being overly salty. You could tell the wok was hot when this was cooked. Be warned, the styrofoam container used was packed full of food, so when you grab the container cradle it or else it may snap in half due to the amount of food in the container.
I also ordered some bbq meat to take home (pig stomach, pig intestine), and she also threw in some duck gizzard too. The innards were delicious, a tad on the chewy side but good flavour.
I found that the guy was more friendlier than the woman. She got into a dispute with a customer who had ordered the wrong dish (the customer wanted sweet and sour pork but got confused and ordered the peking pork). The woman kept telling him that he was wrong and she kept notifying him it was peking. The man resolved the issue by saying they would cook the proper dish for him.
Overall though, service was good.
Too bad this place is out of the way, or else I would be a regular customer.
In conclusion, good food, good service, will not disappoint.
Peking duck did not disappoint! The fried rice had that smoky wok flavor worth coming back for. Been there thrice since :)

Love this place!. A dingy looking place that really just focuses on flavor. Never had a dish here that I did not enjoy in my 10+ years of coming here. Their lobster in cream sauce is to die for. The beef chow fun is not as greasy as other places and the beef taste amazing. Try the fried rice with salted fish for a burst of flavor.

SERVICE: 5/5 greet quick and in a friendly manner. staff here can make you feel like you can just relax and enjoy the food.
PRICE: 5/5 and they give discounts if you pay in cash
ATMOSPHERE: 2/5 again, very old, dingy looking place

Another wow!. Hubby and I happen to be in the Forest Lawn area today and we needed a quick bite, when we decided to eat here. I vaguely remember reading reviews for this place being quite positive, so I did have a certain expectation.
We walked into this very small restaurant around lunch time and there were two tables. The lady chopping up meats at the BBQ station greeted us and asked us to take a seat anywhere. Menus and tea were brought to us within a couple of minutes, and we quickly decided on our orders. We were really hungry and was hoping our food won't take very long, so imagine my surprise when our salted fish and chicken fried rice came out, piping hot in less than five minutes. Then our other order - BBQ duck and pork on rice came out another minute or two later. Complimentary soup and a small plate of lettuce with oyster sauce also arrived.
What should I say - it was one of the best fried rice I've ever had in Calgary. You guys are thinking, it's just fried rice, but no, it had that... not sure what the right word was, but that essence that it was very quickly fried in a huge hot wok (like how it should be) and it was full of flavor. The salted fish was crispy too! The BBQ meats was a hit and miss for me - certain pieces of meat tasted better than others. Nevertheless it was still pretty good.
Another thing I want to mention was the service. I pretty much hate dining at Chinese restaurants in Calgary because of servers with bad attitude and service, but the servers (I'm guessing family owned business?) were pleasant and efficient here. Also, prices were actually cheap! Our two dishes cost us just a tad over $20. I only wish this restaurant wasn't so out of our way because I'd love to eat here more often!
Fast Tasty Chinese Sensation !. I can't believe I have not reviewed this place yet. I first discovered this place a number of years back, and has been one of my favorite stop for Chinese in Calgary.
I can't recall all the dishes I've ordered, as there are many. But most recently (earlier this week), a friend and I ordered Almond Chicken, Shanghai Noodle with slliced beef, Salt and Pepper Squid, and Wor Wonton Soup. All four dishes arrived to our table very promptly and were all made very well. None too greasy/oily. The Salt and Pepper Squid were amazing and good portions. The Wor Wonton had a large variety of meat and veggies along with the wontons. The Shanghai noodles were not overcooked and was the right taste. Overall a very good night to finish our cold snap.
This place has great food and outstanding service.
Stop over when you're near, you'll be glad you did.
WOW!. Excellent service! I have been here many timesaving now and my experiences keep betting better and better! Everybody is super friendly and always have smiles on their faces. The food was excellent, I had the ribs numerous times and they are fall off the bone just like everybody says! All of my friends have enjoyed their time aswell.
Great Chinese food can be found in those hole in the wall type dingy restaurants like this place. I have been eating here with my family for years and have never had bad meal or service. Unlike the crab you get at red lobster where the meat sticks to the shell, Gong Kee's crab is fresh, juicy and delicious. Try it with the cream sauce for an authentic chinese dish. The fried sole dish is also delectable. Great authentic and "westernized" Chinese with a large selection!
AWSOME!. I always love this place the food is fresh and large portions for really good prices and the staff is so friendly and funny! I have even ordred food from here for my wedding a large tray for $50!!!

Wow!. Tunit, V. York and Filo-Jay are all right on the mark with Gong Kee...we really enjoyed our experience there.
The food was fresh and perfectly prepared. The Green beans were cooked to tender crisp perfection and the Sizzling rice rivaled our other favorite in town.
We found the prices to be quite reasonable and there was nothing cheap about the portions or goodies within the dishes.
The decor is nothing fancy but it is bright and immaculately clean. The service is very friendly and efficient.
They seem to be doing a great business in party trays/catering...I'm going to try their catering service one day.
My only disappointment ? They were out of BBQ Duck when I arrived. It was suggested that I call ahead and reserve some the next time I'm headed there.
And there WILL be a next time - and next time - I'm BRINGING more friends!
Update: July 26/09
Went back for the BBQ duck and it was AWESOME! We also tried the two mushroom, beef and vegetable dish which was very good. The only thing we went Hmmmmmm about were the pork dumplings, which were puffy, doughy and deep fried. Different -not sure about those.
Reliable Chinese for Anyone. Food: 4/5 - When every party you go to has a big tray of takeout from here and you have to wait in line on weekends, they're doing something right. Great BBQ pork, house Chow Mein. The fried fish is worth admission alone.
Service: 4/5 - Even when he's busy, Marvin will come over to say hi.
Decor: 1/5 - You can't exactly eat on your lap...
Atmosphere: 2.5/5 - You eat good food, you're happy. There's really no need to artificially enhance your stay.
Bang for $: 5/5 - Good food, good prices. And free dessert on weekends!
