Had a great lunch, the staff are friendly, the room inviting in a cantina sort of way. I had the chicken Quesadilla, it was perfect, would have it again, no questions. I love the patio in the summer time, but in the winter its a great warm room to enjoy.
I have been back many times over the summer and fall for just an afternoon off with a couple of cocktails or a quick dinner sit down on the patio to people watch.
SUMMERTIME, PATIO TIME, COCKTAILS. . . YES . . .
Came here Canada day weekend and wowza, we must’ve waited 1.5h for our food. Luckily, the party-like atmosphere, awesome wait staff and smashing margaritas made up for it! I particularly enjoyed the mushroom burrito and the white peach marg. Aaaaaarrrrrrrriba!
Chili coconut margarita is amazing!! I keep coming back for the tacos and margaritas. Love this place. Thank you to all the friendly staff I have met.
A good spot for casual Tex-Mex food. It does not serve authentic Mexican food so the food tastes exactly as we expect for what it is. 4/5 stars in the context of it being a better than average tex-mex restaurant. Very consistent food and service. Have tried all menu items & they taste somewhat redundant, but the fajitas standout. They make great caesar's & some tasty margaritas. Staff are efficient, friendly & easy-going. Fun, casual spot that we find very reliable.
Best Taco Tuesday in Calgary by far!
We go there pretty often and everything from service to food is pretty fantastic.
Lots of sauces on the side too. Love!
We didn’t come for food but drinks.....mainly margaritas. And they were great!!!! The chili coconut is not for the faint of heart. It’s got a kick to it. Not a lingering after taste. Just a quick burn and then gone....
The Cadillac margarita is delicious. The mixture is very citrus driven but not overpowering. A perfect balance of taste and effect. Highly recommend coming here.
Five of us gathered to catch up and celebrate life. Indeed, the cantina is a lively place on a Saturday evening. Greeted and seated, our drink orders were taken. Lots of beers, wines and cocktails from which to choose. For food, we went with various tacos and burritos. All were tasty. Service was good. Great atmosphere. Any complaints were of an old guy sort - it was difficult to chat over the noise. Cheers.
Outstanding service from the hostess and ambiance is great! Food is exceptional = we ordered a large plate of nachos and a mixed variety of tacos! The hot sauce variety is great - although an area of improvement is the portions of guac and salsa that are served to the table lol. Maybe Im just a hungry man but why do restaurants always get stingy on the dipping sauce? Other than that Blanco Cantina is the place to be on date night!
Legit had their wings for the first time (teriyaki hot I think) and they were the best wings I have had downtown! Also, their nachos were amazing too. The only issue is that its a little pricey and I find the atmosphere a little depressing.
BEST nachos in the city. I could come here every day and never get tired of them. I mean, allowing me to pick what I want and two kinds of jalapeños? Um, yes, this place is heaven to me.
Recently I've ordered the grilled fish tacos two times, which comes on a sizzling plate and I can't even. I will share when I get full but if I don't then no one is getting a taste of them. These are bomb. The fish is flakey and the onions underneath have a pretty good heat to them, paired with the rice and guacamole as your sides, you can't go wrong. The house made hot sauce is so good too, and it does add a fair amount of heat.
Watermelon marg's yes.
My only suggestion would be to bring the guava marg's over from Anejo.
I LOVE this place.
Really fun little spot with a great street view for people watching and some of the best frozen margaritas I have ever had! The portions are huge and the food is delicious. Could not have had better service! Just be careful of the patio seats, they get boiling hot in the sun!!!! Nearly had toasted buns with my nachos!
Food and drinks were great. We ordered nachos in mucho size, with brisket and pork. Both meats were very moist, but I think the brisket tasted better.
Really neat place. The ambiance is really cool
And the servers were very nice. We loved the loaded nachos really nice presentation and each bite was delicious ! We also enjoyed the wings, spicy but just right ! I got the flight of tacos so I could try each flavor, my favorites were the pulled chicken, fish and beef. I didn't enjoy the ground beef, it was quite greasy and the Chili was bland. But the rest were delicious. I would love to come back and try some drinks!
I was at Blanco this week for dinner with a group of girlfriends, we had amazing, friendly service, tasty nachos and my favourite chilli coconut margs! My group throughly enjoyed their visit! We will be back for another girls night!
I am a sucker for tacos! Really enjoyed sitting out on the patio with the girls, under the heaters. Always love the half price happy hour tacos! I had the pork tacos on flour tortillas, while the others had the pork and the fish tacos on corn tortillas. We also got the nachos with queso to share, which was great addition to the table. Overall a lovely afternoon with great service. Will definitely be back!
We went here on a rainy day after a hike in K Country. We were hungry and they delivered the goods. We managed to receive their happy hour specials (3pm-5pm) which included half price tacos and $5 beers and margaritas. The food we got was pretty decent too, however, they did taste pretty similar (we had an order of chicken tacos, pulled pork and pulled beef). The place itself is cool and the service was great.
This place had a fun atmosphere and awesome 90s music which brings back memories. Great place to hang out, catch up with friends and prices are reasonable. I had the the 1/2 pork burrito with guacamole and salad and I really enjoyed it. It was pretty big burrito too, can't imagine how big the full size would be. My hubby and our other friend got the bulldog and another got the pineapplr margarita. they all said it was delicious. I would definitely come back again.
Their happy hour is super worth! $5 margaritas and half price nachos, tacos and tequila! It's definitely fiesta, siesta, tequila, repeat! I will be coming back to try more of their tacos. I liked the roast beef and the fish tacos a lot. Highly recommend the refreshing watermelon margarita!
Very cool restaurant with awesome patio! Lots of liquor choices as well. Menu is smaller but all the food is great. Whether you get the tacos, a burrito, or anything else you likely will not be disappointed. The guacamole was average at best but that is my only complaint.
Give yourself plenty of time to pick your food because they have so many good choices! I went for the chicken tacos today and they were amazing! And of course we started with the guac, it was a good size for an appy for 3 people. We also started with the cornbread. I would recommend sharing an appy if you're getting the tacos if you are really hungry. The patio is a bit loud by the road, but it's still so nice to be able to sit outside.
It is a rare occasion, at this point in our lives, that my SO and I get to spend an evening on 17th Ave, and even then we generally head to our standby - the National or Ship patio. However, this past Saturday we joined some friends for an impromptu pub crawl of sorts.
This adventure led us to Blanco near the end of our journey, and while we only had drinks, I am eager to give it another shot for an extended period of time to try the patio and some food, despite some less than favourable reviews. It was later in the evening when we wandered in, so we were able to snag a table for 4 in the middle of the room. Service was quick and friendly, and when she found out it was our first time there, she made some great drink recommendations. My SO is fairly boring when it comes to his drink choices, and ordered just a Corona, but the rest of us took some of her recommendations and ordered the Watermelon Margarita, the Island Old Fashioned and my fav, the Pineapple Serrano Margarita. The Margs were delicious, albeit a little pricey, but I am now officially obsessed with the pineapple serrano.
When I was on a poutine crawl for Poutine Week we changed destinations and came to Blanco Cantina instead. They were super generous with letting us all in at the last minute and their poutine for the week was a Poutine Burrito with sides.
I'll start with the sides that I tried. The cornbread was fluffy and delicous with big bits of corn throughout and the fries were crispy but could have used a little more flavour. The corn salad was nice, very fresh with a hint of spice.
The Burrito itself had shaved skirt steak, cheese curds, spicy Mexican gravy, house cut fries, and coriander scented onions. The steak was the best part. The marinade and cook of the meat was perfect, the cheese was nicely melted. The onions were mixed in nicely, but I think the mushy fries didn't work too well. Honestly just the meat and cheese would be fantastic if they ever make something similar again.
We were in a back corner so the noise from the kitchen was pretty high but for a last-minute arrangement it worked out really well.
Went here twice, had very different experiences- I think they're still working out some kinks in terms of delivering consistent food. First visit, I had the guac and chips along with some fish tacos. The fish tacos were INCREDIBLE and perfectly done. There were some hot peppers, which was easy enough to pick off my tacos, as I don't like very spicy food. The guac, on the other hand, was so incredibly plain and bland that we added hot sauce we found on our table, just to make it more palatable. All that good avocado, wasted without any seasoning... Please season your guac, or add some more lime and cilantro!!
Second visit was during happy hour, when they have ridiculously good deals on tacos and nachos. Decided to get fish tacos again, and a really fancy plate of custom-made nachos. The kitchen screwed up our nachos order after we had been waiting for a very long time. However, the waitress we flagged down was extremely quick to remedy the situation and they comped us our nachos as a gesture of good will. I found this level of service and generosity so impressive, I will be back many more times and keep trying new menu items.
Great food had the fried chicken and fish tacos amazing. The asian lady, owner? Very knowledge and friendly. Id definitly comeback. Needs more drink specials. I like the music play list.
TACO WEEK!
So for the wonderful taco Fiesta, BLANCO has come up with a pulled pork taco. Taste was out of this world, this beauty was topped with julienne apples. It was pricey and definitely messy but the flavor was all worth it.
Their chips and salsa was... sub-par.
Their pork burrito was... passable.
But they have a while shelf of random hot sauces, and their guacamole was pretty good.
Service was decent, I can't say I have a definite opinion of the food here quite yet, so I would definitely return to try more.
If you haven’t checked out the Big Taste, you’ve got one last evening to get out there. With $25-35 three-course dinner menus, it’s honestly quite the deal. Plus, it’s a great excuse to try something new. Funnily enough, Blanco is basically one block away from home, and yet, somehow, we hadn’t found the chance to drop in. Cole’s always craving tacos, but usually we end up at the staple French & Italian spots.
Really enjoyed Sunday lunch, the tacos were delicious and the guacamole was outstanding, with home made chips and an assortment of bottled hot sauces. Service was friendly and efficient. Very good value, with reasonably priced drinks (even better value at "halfy hour" in the late afternoon).
Popped in on a Friday night, and it was busy and bustling. We sat in the back corner which was nice and comfortable for causal conversation, the main dining area seemed quite loud. The Margarita was perfect, wish we could have taken a jug to go! Shared ground beef tacos and nachos with chicken. The small nacho portion was massive for 2 people, but a bit skimpy on toppings in my opinion. Tacos were decent. Margaritas and atmosphere will bring us back.
One of my favorite new places in Calgary. I've always been iffy on Anejo, but absolutely love Blanco as it is pretty much the more casual, bar-like sibling of Blanco.
If you just want to hang out with friends and have a few drinks, I would choose Blanco over Anejo. Especially if you manage to make it here during their daily Happy Hours, which is already one of my favorites in the city. We have ordered the Medium size of the Nachos during Happy Hour for 8 dollars, and even with 4 of us we were never able to finish the whole thing. May not be as classy or intimate as Anejo, but for a fun time I would choose Blanco everytime!
My friend and I came here for happy hour-what delicious drinks! Anejo's sister restaurant doesn't disappoint, and while we didn't eat the food passing by us looked very good. Plenty of space, decor seems more Tex-Mex style.
Was here yesterday, quiet Sunday evening. We were told its busy on Fridays & Saturdays which makes sense as its in the heart of 17th ave. Brand new, opened Oct 2015. Serves Tex-Mex food like Anejo (same owners). I recommend nachos for the table with various toppings. My friends got the chicken fajitas which they had to return (chicken was dry & plain). Server was nice to not charge them for it. Veggie burrito was decent. I'd recommend this place for drinks (as their margaritas are very good from what my friends told me). Food needs a little bit of more flavor to them (except for nachos). Overall, a fun pub with good music for catching up with friends.
Blanco is the sister restaurant of Añejo, and the menu revolves similarity as well, offering Mexican fares. Entering on a Thursday night, I was greeted and served a table pretty quickly. One thing that I noticed right away was that the music seemed to be quite loud, and I had trouble carrying on a conversation with my friend right beside me. I ordered a set of carne tacos, and thought that they were quite tasty. I especially like how the sour cream was warmed and drizzled across the tacos, making it easier to eat, and creating a great balance in texture with the pulled beef. I did feel that it was lacking a little bit of flavour though, which was easily remedied by the use of some of the hot sauces they have available. For dessert, we tried the tres leche, which was a Mexican sponge cake with cream cheese frosting and a caramel sauce on top. I found the dessert to be delicious, but a bit too sweet for one person to finish, so share with a friend! While I was here, I noted some happy hour specials, so I'll definitely drop by to try those some time!
Solid service at the bar. A bit cold though turn the heat up! ;) tacos were good maybe more veg or salsa options? We appreciated the catering they did for us on our requests. Looking forward to trying the other foods like burritos.
Great casual spot where the Brava Bistro used to be. Good Tex-Mex food in a relaxed social environment. The quesadilla and burrito portions are huge and we saw some others ordering the nachos and poutines which looked large (and delicious!) too. The tacos are average for portion size, but all of the food we tried was pretty good. Service was excellent, food was not overpriced, and they take reservations! No complaints, would definitely return.
Saw this place open up and we came for some lunch. Really nicely decorated place and the food was amazing. We had the chicken tacos, nachos, and the chicken burrito. The price is really good for the portions and our server was really nice!
