Review Song Viet - Calgary

If you want to treat yourself with some bomb ass pho sate, without breaking your bank -you should get it here. They make it with real peanut sauce, and you can actually taste the difference. I love this place so much <3

Absolutely the best beef sate Pho in the city, as well as the seafood and chicken versions of the sate. I've had Pho at many, many places within city limits and if you like spicy peanut sate, Song Viet is the pinnacle of flavour. This is some perfect secret soup recipe that will blow your mind, it might be the coconut milk. I can't comment on the rest of the menu here since I only ever order the Sate Pho.

Best Beef Sauté Pho and spingrolls around. For all those that complain about service or decor, this is Chinatown, you go for the food! Service has always been friendly enough for me. Judging by the full house most lunch hours, seems like many agree with me. If you want high end service and upscale decor, maybe you should make a different choice.

Pretty yummy across the board. We had the pork spring rolls and a couple of shrimp salad rolls to start. We then followed up with a huge bowl of sate pho - rare beef and beef balls.

Paid parking downtown. Looks like a hole in the wall on the outside - but great soups. Bubble tea was good. Prompt service. Good mother daughter lunch.

sate #64 is the best bowl of soup in Canada. been busy Nguyen to song viet for years, food/staff fantastic, always clean.

Very fast and fresh! All lunch combos come with complimentary tea and won ton soup, The food was great. Going to eat here again.

Quite decent pho, had the large special beef noodle soup and overall it was tasty, but it didn't have much beef inside it.

The beef satay phò is some of the best in town. The other rice and vermicelli dishes are excellent too

Food was delicious and quickly prepared. The portions were very generous!

This was the first Vietnamese place i have been to in Calgary and coincidentally it is in my neighbourhood, it was really nice with great portion size but may be a little pricey compared to the rest of Chinatown.

Good food with good service.
I ordered vermicelli with shrimp and spring rolls. My friend ordered vermicelli with springroll, and wonton soup is so nice.
I recommend this place for family meeting, and if you are finding a Vietnam cuisine restaurant, this place won't let you down. I guarantee.
Hitting The Sauce
We all ordered #64 – Hu Tieu Mi Sate Bo – which is spicy beef sate ($11). Song Viet is generous with the basil and sprouts. All the condiments – like the vegetables and lime were fresh and clean. The bowl wasn’t large but there was plenty of beef and noodles to fill you up. I have a big appetite and I was full. What makes this bowl special? The noodles are fresh and not dried. Song Viet buys their noodles daily. The sate is pea-nutty and spicy, but not so hot it makes you cough and sputter.

Great pho and reasonably priced meals. Good spicy satay everything. Would come back again. Very nice server very friendly and was nice and quiet here on a Sunday.

Bad service!! Only the owners are working, appetizers came after 30 mins, asked for one of the soups not to be spicy when it came it was spicy and when we told him he simply said its not didnt even bother offering to change it.

The other plate and the food in general was not bad which is why it gets 2.0 but all items are a bit overpriced for PHO.

Yum!. I love this place. The satay beef soup and the pho is excellent. Price is good for a take out and they package it cleverly so it isnt mushy when you get back to your desk. Good choice for lunch if you work near Chinatown.

Good value, fast efficient service, clean, good food. When i stay at the Delta Bow Valley, i love to come here for lunch or supper. Good food, great prices for downtown Calgary. Fast and efficient. It is worth going. I enjoy the noodles and all the soups.

Excellent Beef Satay soup. Have been here many times. It took them a while to open up after being flooded out in June of last year, but the wait was worth it. The quality of the soup is as good as it ever was.

I wholeheartedly recommend the beef satay soup (#64) with extra vegetables. This is not a standard satay - the broth is thicker. It tastes a bit like it has peanuts and coconut milk in it. Very tasty. The other menu items are not unique, rather common by vietnamese restaurant standards.

Purists and hipsters looking for an "authentic" experience (really?) can skip this place or "go to the mall". Go for the beef satay and enjoy yourself. At 12 bucks a bowl, its worth every penny.

I have been a customer at Song Viet for many many years now and I can say that hands-down they have the best satay soup in the city.

They have a very unusual broth that is thick and has a very strong coconut and peanut taste.

Absolutely the best satay beef, satay chicken, and seafood satay soups I've ever tried!

Excellent Food. I've been eating at Song Viet restaurant for a long time before the flood hit. I just came back recently after hearing that they reopened. I was very happy to see a brand new and renovated restaurant! They now feature a new menu with a few new items and they also sell combos now. I usually go for their sate beef noodle soup but I wanted to change it up, so I ordered their combo 2, Vermicelli with chicken, shredded pork, meat balls, and spring rolls. The food tasted great. All the meat were cooked perfectly and the spring rolls were crispy and delicious! I really recommend this restaurant for everyone that enjoys good vietnamese cuisine!

They have tried many Viet restaurants in town and this one has the bestest saute soup in town. Parkind DT can be a hassel but SongViet has a parkinglot across the street. The food here is by far the tastiest in town. I have been going to it for years! Service is fast too.
Jac
Excellent Vietnamese!. Especially the Sate soups. Service can be a hit or miss, but has never kept me from coming back.
Astroboy
Horrible service, got the order mixed up, the place is filthy, and the food was only mediocre at best. I think they water the hot sauce down and the 'new' items under the glass on the table look like they were there from the 80s. Skip this dump and go to one of the better places inside the mall.

I always come here when I rarely go to Chinatown cause I live so far out. I always want to try their other dishes but I always get their satay noodle soups. Very nice broth. None of the other Viet restaurants in town can beat it. Also try their Salad Rolls very good.

Song Viet have the dirtiest cutlery in chinatown. I usually wouldn't comment on it but the employee there was rude and said there was nothing wrong with it. How can he miss food particles in between the fork teeth. Yew!

Get the 88. Roll your own salad rolls with yummy chicken & tons of mint. Delicious :)

Get #64 and be amazed.

Awesome pho. Like the other reviewers this place has the best beef satay pho - have been coming here since it was the Vietnamese Village. Also, highly recommend the Vietnamese Village location off 64th Avenue which is also great.
DJ
Definately the best rare beef sate soup in Calgary. Perfect spicing with a slightly creamy texture to the rich broth. The sate sauce that comes with salad rolls is also perfect. Great bun dishes (26 is highly recommended - BBQ shrimp & pork). The only complaint is they changed the tea a few months back and it is not the best tea.
Andy
Without doubt - the best Satay Pho. I am a nut for Pho soup. I've had thousands of bowls of the stuff...all over Calgary...all over Canada...and many places stateside. The Satay Pho (#64) at Song Viet is spectacular. It is consistently the perfect combination of beef, vermicelli, and spiced heat. For the absolute best of the best, it must be enjoyed on a business day lunch hour.
