Stopped by this place for lunch today after running an errand close by. The restaurant was packed when we arrived. Luckily we were seated right away and placed our orders. To our surprise the food came out quickly and service was friendly even when it was busy. I got #20 charbroiled lemongrass chicken with spring rolls on vermicelli. The chicken was soft and juicy, glad it wasn't dried out. Portion was big and they give you good amount of sauce for your noodles. The spring rolls was a bit smaller than other places I have been too but overall it was tasty. I got the iced vietnamese coffee with condensed milk, super dark and rich flavours. They gave me a to go cup since I couldn't finish at the restaurant. Overall a good experience here.
The inside looks very modern and there's lots of space between tables. It's not cramped at all which I really like. The food is great. For dinner time, there's not alot of customers which is good if you like peace and quiet when eating.
Nice and fast! This is a nice little restaurant in downtown and the food is solid, but there's not a ton of variety from other vietnamese restaurants. Even still, the broth is really good with complex flavours and is reminiscent of the Pho I had in Vietnam. I'd come back again for sure!
Being downtown , there isn't a lot around for decent Vietnamese food. TOA is a good choice if you're looking for a place in the area. They get very very busy at lunch so make sure you make a reservation. Don't expect great service, and don't ask to split your bill if you're in a group unless you want to get yelled at. I always stick for the one size pho dac biet for $11.99. The portion won't be like pho portions you might get on 17 Ave but it's definitely enough for lunch. I will revisit here on our lunch breaks. If I'm craving pho for dinner or weekends, there are definitely a lot of other choices if you're not downtown.
We have been ordering large group orders from TOA for a few years and we love it!! The food is fresh and flavourful and the service is quick. The restaurant is run by a very nice family and its great to support a family run business. We have tried ordering from other Vietnamese places but this is the only place we go to now. Great food!
It is packed for a reason.... Everyone be hating on this place but the truth is that they make some of the best Pho and salad rolls in town. If you are a delicate person and are easily offended if the waiter doesn't ask you how your day has been then eat at the Vietnamese place in your local food court. Or maybe get in your car and car up to Forest Lawn and you will notice that most to all Vietnamese places have service like this. It is the culture. Go here for the food, go somewhere else if you need more than that. I still need a reservation if I come here for lunch and its been like that for years.
Best Sate Soup in Town. Went for lunch today and four of us had the same beef sate soup #33, SO GOOD & SPICY . The broth was so YUMMY that i never had it before in calgary.The service in very good and the foods come out very fast .We would go back for sure.
Best Vietnamese in the city. I've eaten at many Vietnamese places throughout this great city and this one is the best, full-stop. The decor is quite a bit nicer than most Viet places and the staff are efficient and courteous. The biggest difference - the quality of food. Vegetables are fresh and you can actually distinguish the meat! They use very spicy fish oil, which really gives any dish a great kick. It's delicious, to say the least. A little more expensive than most Viet places, but I'm happy to pay for the significant increase in quality. Again, the best Vietnamese in the city.
For those coming here for lunch during the week - either make a reservation or come around 11:30 or after 1:00, because the place is insanely backed between 11:45 to 1:00.
Great Service & Food. This place is unassuming, and although the decor is a little on the easy to clean side, the food is very good and the service does not leave you wanting. Our meal was tasty and quick, and the price very reasonable.
Try the coconut shrimp.
Delicious. I've stopped in here twice to get takeout during lunch time at work. I've tried many Vietnamese places and this is by far my favourite. I did think it was a bit pricey but the portions are very large - I get at least 2 meals out of one order! Tried the chicken satay sub - different from most places, huge, filling, spicy and fantastic. Also had the vermicelli with satay chicken and spring rolls. Also very large and lots of flavour. The owner is very friendly and always chats with me while I wait for my order. Will be back many many times!

Best Vietnamese in Town. I order take out from this place every second Friday for lunch. It is the best I have eaten in this city. #19 Beef Satay and spring rolls on rice vermicelli is my tried and true dish. The beef is very well-cooked and nicely seasoned. There is no char on the meat and it is very tender. The fish sauce is top notch and whether you eat in or take-out, the food is well put together and quite honestly can't be beat in this city. I have been all over the NW, SW, deep SE and downtown and have not come across better Vietnamese.
I have eaten in the restaurant a couple of times also. The orders are taken very quickly, the food arrives promptly, and so does the bill. I have read many reviews complaining about rushed service, and though I agree, you must understand this is lunch time in Calgary and food here is spectacular. They need to move as many people through during lunch as possible, because no one stays downtown in the evening. They literally get no business after 1:00. I have been here in the evening and not a sole is here. So, if you have the need to complain about the rushed service, why don't you stop in for dinner? They will be trying to keep you here as long as possible.
When I order Vietnamese in the future, no matter where I live in this city, this is the place I will come to get Vietnamese, I just can't eat it from anywhere else.
Tasty & Cheap. Have been here twice in two weeks and both times the food was fantastic and reasonable priced. Week nights are great, heaps of tables and a very quick service. Have eaten in and had take out, both where great.
Good. We work near here so I have ordered take out a dozen times, though I have never eaten in.
The food is good. The portions are huge. Take out is always ready in a hurry.

Extremely yummy and easy to find!. It was a toss up today between Toa and sushi. For me, Vietnamese wins every time so I won the 'coin toss' so to speak. We arrived at 1130am, early by lunchtime downtown standards, beat the rush and was able to get a table for 2 despite not having a reso (had never been here before). The waiter was curt, professional and to the point. My friend and I each had a vermicelli bowl - wow, may have been one of the best I have ever had!!!! My particular special #22 came with a free, fresh shrimp roll. YUMMY! The peanut sauce with a touch of spice was fantastic! The bowl itself has the finest, freshest noodles and came with a skewer of grilled shrimp (3), charbroiled chicken and crispy spring rolls. Cooked to perfection. I brought half of it home, ate it when I GOT HOME and wish I had more now, hours later! My friend loved her bowl too. The place was PACKED by 1pm. Maybe resos are a good idea and will remember this for the future. I can guaratee 100% I will be back and did not mind paying $13 per bowl whatsoever.
Great food - service needs to be better!. TOA has great food - that's why we keep ordering from them. Their service, on the other hand, was very slow. When it first opened in 2010, we went in the afternoon and, although we were the ONLY customers at that time, there was a long wait for everything - the food, drinks, the bill. Our server was incredibly inexperienced. However, we now just go there to pick up the food (call your order in to avoid delays). No worries about slow service and we get delicious Vietnamese food! I'm glad it's busy at lunch. We get takeout for dinner and it's always quiet. We were afraid it would close and we would be without our favourite Vietnamese restaurant.
Excellent. I frequent this restaurant about once a week for lunch and it is the best Vietnamese food that I've tried!
Staff is friendly and portions are quite large. The only small drawback is the price. While they charge a little more than some other Vietnamese restaurants, the quality of the food is superior.
Yummy!. I have eaten here about 5 times in the past 3 months and it is always good. A lot of the people in my office frequent Toa and they all love it. It is one of the better Vietnamese restaurants in our area of downtown for sure.
I especially like the charbroiled pork and spring rolls.

Good. Have eaten lunch here 3 times and had a good meal each time. Had pho tai, seafood on chow mein and seafood pho. All good. I eat vietanmese food regularly and visit many downtown spots. I do find it odd that HaileyWhite is the only raving review and has given negative reviews to all other vietnamese places nearby. I have eat at the Vietnamese Village Express once a month for 5 years and like it very much.
Best service and Vietnamese food ever. @ Hungry Dazza: Iam not agree with your comment above. I have been eaten lunch today and i totally in love with it. I am not sure that the customer I saw today in a restaurant was you or not. I saw a gentlement come in and seat by himself. When a server kindly ask him to share a table with another customer because the restaurant was full and busy at lunch time. He didnt reply a server and stood up, then left the restaurant without saying anything to the server. I think that a rude behaviour!
In my opinion, I loved the food and a services in there. I ate a Shrimp Salad Rolls and Vermicelli with Beef and it was totally awesome. !!! You guys should try it one day!!!
Great bang for your buck and a quick, hot meal. I met a great friend for lunch on Tuesday and he suggested we go here. It was packed and the food going by us looked awesome. I love really good Vietnamese spring rolls and legit pho. Here is what we had- I want to try the pho next time:
