I would say 3.8 is more precise. My mother in law enjoyed tempura udon, but tempura looked a bit oily in my opinion. Overall, salmon is quite fresh, red tuna was still a bit frozen when I had it, so I didn’t really enjoyed it.
Great little Japanese restaurant located on 17 ave. The sashimi here is really fresh and the prices are decent too. The menus boasts a large selection or rolls, appetizers, Korean dishes and sushi combos. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. Will be back!
From the slightly char-coiled unagi to the sweat tasting smoked salmon, this little gem hit on everything from friendly staff, tasty meals all at a cheap(er) pricing.... ohhhh how I will return.

We don't normally eat downtown a lot because of how expensive it tends to be, but we were short on time, needed something relatively quick and not overly-filling, and spotted this place. For fun, we thought it would be a good idea to share a couple of rolls and a pot of tea, so we went in. It was quiet, we were really the only people in there but it was early afternoon so the lunch rush was over. That worked for us, sometimes we like it quiet.
We ordered Gyoza, the Crab Salad roll, the Alaska roll, and the Fire Cracker roll for sharing. The tea was light, flavourful and very hot. The funny thing was the cups kept trying to walk across the table from the little bit of moisture on the bottom breaking the friction between cup and table surface, so they would glide a little. Brief amusement while we waited for our food.
The gyoza were delicious. They were very fresh, delicious and the sauce had some sort of a sweet vinegar hit to it that was amazing. The crab salad rolls were fresh crab, love the crispy tempura bits throughout, and the hint of spiciness was perfect. The Alaska roll is one I normally shy away from but in this case the fish was fresh and delicious, had a really nice smokiness, and the avocado was just right. My favourite was the Fire Cracker roll, not as spicy as I would have imagined from the ingredients listed but it was a different kind of spice from the crab salad rolls. The Fire Cracker ones were crunchy and delicious with an awesome heat to them.
Honestly I'd eat all of those again any time! Next time we're in the area I wouldn't mind trying a few of their other rolls as well.
Sushi is very tasty here, gyoza are perfectly crisp and tender on the inside. Very small place so it's great for pick up or causal dinner. Service is always really nice.

Pretty decent place for quick sushi. The service is a little slow, but the servers are really nice. The sashimi is quite fresh and I have never been unsatisfied by any of their rolls. If I am ever downtown and craving sushi, I always go to Midori. They also have a patio area which is nice when the sun is out, there are not very many Japanese restaurants that have a patio. Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for decent sushi!
Pretty good sushi. Staff are very friendly and always get my order correct when I order pickup. The only thing is I wish they were open on Tuesdays :(
Great little sushi place. I've only ever had good quality and good service. It's also open on Sundays, which is a bonus.
Gotta say it was one the best restaurant experiences in Calgary. Service was excellent. They have some amazing rolls. I've tried Midori Roll and another special roll with cream cheese in it (forgot the name..) along with udon and tempura. They were absolutely fantastic! The rolls were fresh, clean and well balanced(it really matters for sushi and roll lovers u know it;)). Udon tasted the way it should be- Not to salty not to plain. Tempura was also very well cooked and fried with just the right amount of frying powder. Crisp outside tender and juicy inside. I was full, but the food was so good that my friend and I had to order another additional roll to kill it- it was called Fried yam flake roll if I remember correctly. Very tasty. I don't usually, perhaps, never wrote a review in my life, but this time I had to because I want people to have some really nice experience just like the one I had that worth you spending.
The tempura Udon is very good. I like the Udon. The best Udon in calgary!!
This was the first place that got me hooked on sushi! I used to be here at least once a week and took a little break to try out other places but I think this is still my fav! The spicy crunch tuna roll is my go to, and the love roll is also amazing! I just recently tried ordering all my rolls with brown rice and to my surprise they were still delicious!
Wish they would get a little more ventilation going in there so I didn't leave smelling like sushi but ill deal with it!
Super impressive. I've travelled a lot within Canada and been to many sushi restaurants, and Midori is by far the fav! Midori always tastes incredibly fresh and keeps the same high, consistent standards everytime I go.
Their rolls are the main reason I return and they are absolutely to die for. Some of the rolls they have - I've never seen them at other sushi restaurants. Yam Flake roll would be a good example. It has deep freid sliced yam on top of regular california roll, and words can't describe how great it is. It's very creative and the presentation of the dish is fantastic.
Midori roll (which I believe is their signature roll) is my favourite though. Again, you ONLY get to see this at Midori.
Definitely will come back.
Came to midori with my girlfriend a couple weeks back and they were great! We just finished a walk so we were pretty hungry. The rolls were artistically made and the service was friendly. A pretty nice family owned business :) ill definitely be back
I love this place! We used to live a couple of blocks away from Midori and it was our go to sushi restaurant. Now living out east, I often dream about the mango and yam rolls. Pure heaven! Will hopefully in back in Calgary soon so I can re-unite with Midori!
We love Midori! Especially our kids who go wild over the mandoo (er... The gyoza) and the udon. Wife always gets the bento box and I alternate between the sushi and (and this is strange!) the bibimbap. The bibimbap is vegetarian and hits the spot for me. I don't think too many people order it but I think the bibimbap is a hidden gem in this very small Japanese eatery.

Another Gem!. It's another Jap restaurant operated by Koreans. It's quite good and in my top 5 to-go for Japanese.
Cons:
- Busy street, hard to navigate if traveling by car.
- Hard to find parking.
- Small restaurant, may be problematic if it's busy hour.
- Only a few good items which are the highlight of the restaurant which makes me return. Most of items on the menu are excessively unnecessary.
- Avoid their Teriyaki/Rice items, ramen, jap-chae. It lacks restaurant finesse, quality and flavor. It's stuff I could probably make at home, and you can find the better equivalent in mall food courts.
- Most of the nigiri and special rolls are distasteful, however there are very few that are quite pleasing!
Pros:
- Food seems to be prepared and presented with quality. Tastes nice. Price is on par with other Jap places.
- it's chill place, consistent store hours. Whenever you're craving, it's an easy casual drop in.
Highly recommended. Out of all sushi restaurants in Calgary, I would definitely think that Midori is the best place. Excellent selection of rolls and sushi... Patio also is a great option when we have nice weather like today... :)
Best sushi in Calgary!. This has always been my favorite place to get sushi in Calgary. The prices are great, the food is amazing and the people that work there are awesome! They have a nice patio for in the summer time as well! AWESOME FOOD! :D
Yummy!. Best sushi in town, well priced and they have a great menu. The service is a little lacking, but the food more than makes up for it.
Giant sushi! Great sushi place, the only thing I don't agree with is the weird white sweet sauce they threw on my food, but it was cheap, they got food to our place very quickly. Yay Midori!
Only 6 months in as a regular and I am hooked. Well presented, fairly priced and good quality. As far as the exceptionally broad range of sushi experiences go, this place rates high for it's mid-range placing. Tasty, fresh and small enough to provide great service, we will keep coming down. Chase it with icecream or a cupcake, just down the street. Yum!
My Favourite Sushi. I found this small sushi place when working on 17th; I'd pop in, sit at the bar, read the paper and order a couple of rolls with green tea. the prices are great and so is the food! I really like the staff as well- if they're busy i just help myself to a menu and grab a seat if i can find one. Their spicy anything is delicious! One of my favourite things is that the sushi-chefs (?) always arrange your plate differently- even if you order the same thing everyday (not that anyone has ever done that ...!). They're lots of fun; Midori is a great restaurant. I even named my betta fish after this place!
Friendly. It was a little expensive, and the food took some time tom get to the table. The sushi tasted fresh and delicious. I'll eat here again.
Consistent. I've been coming here a lot lately and am always impressed. The service is friendly, but can be on the slow side if the tiny place is full. The food itself is fantastic and is always consistent. I like how the rolls are small enough to eat in one bite, as I've been finding a number of places now seem to cram as much into a roll as they can making it impossible to eat without making a huge mess. Kudos to the server with braces...she is super friendly!

we have been going to Midori for almost 6yrs now and my husband and i loved it since the 1st visit. the sushi always fresh and everyone so friendly! the owner knows my entire family and take extra care of us!
usually japanese food are expensive anywhere you go in town but not at this one! every time i eat sushi there I am reminded of how good Midori is compared to other Japanese restaurant. They changed their menu, got so many new item! many fusion rolls- like globefish or towa's( i like towa as well!), same or better quality but much cheaper price!!!( ive tried globefish a few time and didnt like their way too sticky rice...and too much rice and not enough stuffing...) anyway we tried yam flake and butterfly roll with my all time favorite midori special. they are all under 13. if you want decent food with cheap price this is the place you give a try! you will LOVE it!
Sushi. I've gone here a few times, the food tastes good, and filling. I always get sushi and have not try'd anything else yet, but it is priced well so that makes me a happy costumer. But i do question the use of msg, because me and my girl friend crave it and always want to go out, and i would like to know if there putting msg in my food, because then i would not be there for the food but for the addicting salt.
SUSHI. Good, cheap and quick. Great mid week option. "Patio" is a nice option during our 3 weeks of summer.
Great dinner for one (or two). I frequent Midori at least a couple of times a week since it is so close to my work. Really good sushi! It seems that most people have problems with service. My advice: do not go with a large group of people (it's tiny!), do not go during the dinner rush, and most importantly - do not sit and wait to be served, be friendly, but approach them when you need anything! I usually go after the rush and alone, sit at the bar, grab my own menu and then tell the server what I'd like. They're great i highly recommend this restaurant!

Best Japanese Cafe in downtown SW. I have been frequenting Midoir for 6 months now and I absolutly love it. We go at least once a week for a treat. Its fresh, great proportion sizes and the price's are exceptional. I am fully satisfied every visit. We use to go to 3 different all you can eat restaurants in downtown SW and have tried 2 places in Kensington and this is our go to place . "when in doubt, go to Mindori". It is very small, family operated restaurant but very friendly casual atmosphere. I consistently have combos with miso soup, salad, kushi age(deep friend chicken, yam, prawns with teriaki sauce) california rolls, yam rolls and tea. All of that for under 15$.
