Really friendly and accommodating staff. The soup I had was good, not too salty or under seasoned. Cute decor on the inside with the wooden tables and succulents, will be coming back!
My favourite place for lunch when I'm working from home. I usually have food at home but I find myself going to Velvet Cafe instead for a sandwich and tea because it's really that good! I wonder if they sell their pickles by the jar because I would buy them.

Velvet Cafe is a small, local cafe that provides an alternative to Calgary’s more famous, hipster cafes. They offer good food and drinks in a comfortable, but a bit run-down setting. The staff is very friendly, and are very easy to talk with (if you want to talk)! My soy latte was okay, and the peppermint mocha wasn't too minty enough. The cafe is vegetarian- and vegan-friendly though!
Great little neighbourhood café. Stopped in for a coffee with my mom on a gorgeous day. The patio wasn't open, but they unlocked it and cleaned off some tables so we could enjoy the unseasonably warm March day. We both ordered cappuccinos and they were very good. I'd visit again, especially given the proximity to home.
Fantastic local cafe! I stop in for their daily hot specials or salads often, the food is fresh and delicious. The owners are friendly and the service is great. Also, I order breakfast and lunch catering from here frequently and it is always met with rave reviews, especially the baked goods and unique sandwiches.

Potential for top café!
This is a place incredibly easy to dismiss but i guarantee you will not regret trying. The decor is wonderful and has a nice concept but still needs more renovation, for some areas look a unfinished thus losing a bit of that wonderful atmosphere. The drinks are great! My tester for cafés is a chai latte, from which you can discern quality of milk and flavouring, they did a fine job. To go along with trying the place for the first time i ordered the mac and cheese which was what an employee (who seemed to be the manager) highly suggested saying it's "good today". He was right! not your average mac although at face value it may seem like it, the taste and seasoning was exquisite. Now the downfall of this place, it's prices. I paid a hefty fee for just two items, the mac and cheese definetley taking the greater percentage of that cost. The drink i would say relative to starbucks was better, but a smidge more expensive. As well the customer service was friendly... A bit too friendly. They worked hard at making it a pleasant stay thus losing the naturalness of creating that good vibe. It seems they are desperate in my opinion, but they have potential so i recommend you go check it out at the very least!
Awesome unique and delicious food. Super friendly personable staff. Great place to go. Fresh ingredients. Would come back any day of the week to enjoy their daily unique specials.
Phenomenal Cafe!. The food and service here is amazing. I work a block away, and myself and my colleagues usually go out for lunch every day. I usually visit velvet around 3 times a week. I've tried everything on the menu, as well as most of the specials, and can honestly say I've never had anything less than fantastic food.

Finally!. This is such a great little location and I'm glad there is finally a great café here now. I was avoiding the previous café (Awake café or whatever it was called) like the plague ever since having the worst dining experience of my short life last summer. Much to my delight after biking by this spot in the spring I saw the new signage and hoped it meant new management, suffice to say I'm glad I noticed that sign and popped in. Velvet is amazing and they actually know how to pull espresso and make a latte, with edible food, no wait, tasty edible food to boot. ;)
Fantastic food, daily specials and hot coffee!. The cafe is warm and welcoming. Perfect for studying or chatting with good company. Cassy and Adam are friendly and passionate about their business. They believe in serving the best quality and buying local and organic. This is a great place to stay and relax, or grab something on the go!
Great neighbourhood cafe. This is a great spot and a good new addition to the neighbourhood. The salads, soups, sandwiches and baking is good, as is the coffee. It is too bad they didn't do a bit better job of advertising to the area that it is a new cafe as the old cafe in the same location was pretty bad and I suspect that many people in the neighbourhood don't realize that this is a completely new cafe/ownership/menu etc.

The surroundings are comfy and relaxing, the coffee and cake were both delicious (I'm pretty fussy about my lattes, and this was a nice roast and crema, thank you!).
The staff are friendly, at the same time efficient and clearly know exactly what they're doing: I didn't try any proper food, but judging by the cake and cookie, it will be delicious.
We need more places like this out of downtown!
Finally!!!!! The three businesses in this location prior were horrible. This ace is awesome so happy to have something good nearby! Great with our kids and the food and coffee were lovely! I expect we'll be back often.
Good Food & Coffee. Great service and friendly owners. Food is amazing right form the meal of the day to their homemade soup and sandwiches. Haven't tried the baking yet as there is always more than enough food from the meals served. By the sounds of other customers, I am definitely missing out on the sweets!

Delicious Food. If you are looking for high quality, delicious, made from scratch food at a very reasonable price then you have to visit the Velvet Cafe. The owners, Adam and Cassie, are super friendly and provide awesome customer service. You can tell they love what they do. Thanks to the ever changing daily specials and soups, I find myself eating here pretty much everyday and have yet to order something I didn't thoroughly enjoy (who would have guessed that a carnivore like me would like Chef Adam's "Vegan Chili" so much - best chili I have ever tasted). Their wide selection of take away food makes it super convenient when I'm in a hurry for lunch or when I don't feel like cooking dinner that night. Simply an awesome place to eat!
