By far my favorite place to eat sushi in Calgary. Their sashimi is always fresh and the cuts are huge! Their sushi is well made, I recommend volcano roll.
Tenshi Sushi's menu has a wide variety of sushi, maki, and more to choose from. Each tine I've been there I've had delicious well made sushi and maki, in a nice relaxing atmosphere. A great place to eat a good lunch

Dined at Tenshi for the first time early Monday evening and left with a full stomach and full intentions of returning for sushi very, very soon. Prices are outstanding for the quality. Bill for 2 was about $45 including GST + tip for 3 rolls, soup and 6 sashimi pieces. We were brought a 4th roll accidentally and when I informed our server, she said don't worry about it. Score!
This post is long over due. I was up to my neck with assignments and midterms and vlogging on top of that. I can’t wait to be done school!. Anywho, John and I came to Tenshi for another visit and was joined by a friend, so we were able to order an assortment of things!. New Style Sashimi

Wouldn't call it the best sushi in Calgary, but will definitely come back (not with a big group of people)
Food is not really the best but is good enough. Serving is alright and service is fast. Overall the experience is just enough for its price.
We went to this restaurant twice. For the second time, we felt the owner has been changed. The food is good and price is reasonable. Especially, we liked rolls.
This is a charming little place in Kensington! If there is ever a place to go for sushi (especially avocado rolls, I'm weirdly addicted to avocado), then this is it! I've never had such delicious sushi before, and I've been to my fair share of sushi restaurants in Calgary.
Tenshi is probably my favorite Japanese restaurant in Calgary. The fish is always fresh and in very large portions. I went for dinner and we ordered a variety of sushi sashimi and rolls. I was extremely impressed with the salmon sashimi. Each slice was cut soooo thick, one slice is the equivalent of 3 at another place, and it was so sweet and fresh. All of the rolls were delicious with lots of filling. Overall it was an awesome dinner. I don't know if they regularly cut their salmon this thick but if they do it would easily be the best in the city.
Little hole in the wall sushi place in Kensington that has that west coast feel. My wife and I moved back from Vic and have been looking for a good sushi place and this is the best we have tried so far. Not a lot of room but the sushi was great.
Best sushi in the town. The yam roll and negi toro is excellent！ The salmon sashimi is fresh and big. I really recommend this place. Cheap and delicious!
Best tuna tataki in town. Fresh fresh (almost as good as vancouver island fresh) and thick slices. Great quality for the price :)! A must try
Very good!! I only like fresh sushi, otherwise I can taste it! I like how I don't have to spend so much to get good food and a full stomach. The rolls are their specialty but I got the rice bowl instead! Almost as good as the sushi in Vancouver! I think the miso soup is too salty though. It gets busy during dinnertime (5-7pm) but they open late too. Yum!! (´･ω･`)
I love finding hidden gems and this is EASILY one of them. I've been coming here for practically three years every week and the price and quality have stayed the same. If you're looking to find an authentic experience, this is the place. They've recently renovated the restaurant with Japanese artwork and music, so that's a nice bonus. My only gripe with this place is that it's kind of small and might be a bit cramped. In terms of the food, I can honestly say it's the cheapest and best quality you can find. Giant sashimi pieces and excellent rolls. My favourite item is the salmon and tuna don - $10 for a giant bowl! But this time, I went with my friend and ordered some other things they had on the menu: Honey Plum Tuna, Mango Shrimp Tempura, Unagi Hand Cone, Ebi Nigiri, Volcano Roll, Spider Roll. Complementary Dish: Tako Wasabi. Gosh. I'm craving Tenshi now.
A pretty small place, it had the most Japanese style interior I've ever seen. The sushi was absolutely amazing and the scallop handcone I accidentally ordered was not as fishy as I expected, thankfully. Would definitely recommend the curry Don and the smoked salmon sashimi. Absolutely bomb.
The food here was wonderful!!! Very cute little cozy place. My boyfriend and I went there last night. Great, atmosphere, fresh and such a pretty presentIon. I highly recommend the mango roll no mayo, also the octopus and kimchi :) enjoy!
The food at this restaurant was absolutely amazing. I have never tasted sushi that was so fresh and so delicious in Calgary! The presentation of the food was also amazing. The only reason that this place is not getting a 5/5 is that the food took a long time to arrive at the table. However, the wait was worth it. Tenshi sushi is definitely my favourite sushi spot in YYC!
Been here on many occasion. My first experience was magical. I have had sushi before, in many places around calgary. I love unagi. These guys though, holy crap do they have awesome unagi. I dropped my piece of sushi cause i was caught off gaurd by how good it was for such a small shop!I highly recommend this place. They are so good!
Came here for lunch with a couple co workers. What seemed like the father and son of the restaurant were very friendly. The son served and the father made the food. The food took a while but we were understanding of circumstances. The sushi was a decent size and the sashimi were nice and cold. I would like to come back to try for dinner.
This place looks like such a hole in a wall, I bet so many people have walked past it and not even known what it was.
I think for the price point, the quality of sushi is not bad. It's not the best quality sushi in town, but for what you pay, I think it is pretty good and can't complain. Hit it up if you want some decent priced sushi :)
The sushi there is great. We ordered JO and two other combos which is pretty good. The place is not as big as we thought, but the deco is cozy and comfortable. Service is ok.
Excellent value for what you get. Some items are absolutely delicious. Others are ok delicious. Nothing is awful. So every item either has value exceeds the price or at least on par. Shared a few items with friends.
Lunch combo E with 4 big pieces of sushi and 5 big pieces of sashimi, miso soup, and sunomono - ok delicious but really good value for the price.
soft shell crab - absolutely delicious
agedeshi tofu - as delicious as anywhere else in town
special creamy scallop hand cone - absolutely delicious
taro root rolls - average unless you really like taro root
Mango ? rolls - ok delicious
Overall good experience and can't wait to go back to try some other items on the large menu.
Tenshi Sushi may be small but this cute spot has great sushi. My favourites are the spicy tuna sashimi appetizer, yam and avacoda maki roll, and the salmon nigiri/sashimi pieces.
This place may be small and not all that fancy but the food was GREAT! The taste really surprised me! Our waiter was a trainee so I can't really comment on that, the serving portion is very generous and you can taste the flavour of the fish right on your tastebuds.
Best sushi pizza in town! This place is cute, cozy, authentic, and delicious. Bento box on point! If you're looking for a place to grab lunch in Kensington - Hit up Tenshi!
I had high expectations coming into this place based on the other reviews but I was left disappointed. The space was cramped and the bathroom was flat out disgusting (mold growing on the walls). Salmon nigiri was great (huge serving size and was fresh) but the other nigiris we tried (tuna and smoked salmon) were smaller and tasted off. The rolls we had were messy and tasted pretty mediocre. Sushi was relative cheap here but you get what you pay for.

Great food and bang for your buck! Came here for the first time as a party of 5 and ordered wayyy too much food, we weren't expecting the portions to be so big! There was more fish than rice for the nigiri! we all ended up taking a small box full of leftovers home and were even more shocked that it only costs us $27/person, gst and tip included. My bf and I returned a week later with a guy friend who had never been and keeping in mind how much we had over ordered last time we tried to gauge our order a bit better. We ordered the deluxe dinner for 2 (came with 2 soups, 2 salads [which are actually sunomono], 42 pieces of sushi, sashimi & nigiri, assorted tempura and gyoza) and a roll. the server forgot to punch in the extra roll and we were actually glad - the three of us couldn't even finish the dinner for 2 combo! The only not so great thing would be the service, their servers seem inexperienced and untrained, but still nice. So glad to have found this place and will be coming back often.
The best place in Calgary for sashimi portions! It's unreal how much they give you - at least 2x bigger than any other sushi restaurant. Try their sake don - its $9.99 which includes a miso soup.!
Awesome food. Great prices!. I love going for sushi here. Great quality at a price I haven't seen anywhere else in Calgary. I've lives in the area for 4 years and Tenshi Sushi, the Roasterie and the Bow river are the biggest reasons I love the area. Don't believe the bad reviews from people who came here only one time!
Tenshi has good quality - price ratio. I have been visiting Tenshi Sushi for about 1.5 years now. Everything is fresh, and I love the food there.

Great Kensington Sushi. Very solid sushi joint that delivers great food at a very reasonable price point.
Quantity+Quality. How do I begin this review. I have been coming to Tenshi for years now consistently and let me say the quality has been consistent as well. Also the portion and size of everything they serve is very good quality for your money compared to almost all sushi places in Calgary. This is for surely my favorite all around sushi place in Calgary. I give it a 10 out of 10 honestly. However the one thing that is hit and miss sometimes is the waitresses are a little bit inexperienced but nothing is perfect.

Good Value!. I came to Tenshi for dinner tonight with some friends and we were very lucky to get a table. Shortly after we sat down, the rest of the tables filled up. This is pretty good for a Monday night at 6:30pm. Throughout the evening a few parties came only to turn around. The restaurant is very small, but the value is definitely there. My friend and I shared the sushi, maki & tempura entree (#44) and the maki combo two (#67). I had the house soup instead of the miso and was glad that I did. There was lots of chicken, corn and veggies in my bowl. This was a nice change to the simple miso soup. The suno mono salad was incredibly bland. Both of us had one bite and discarded it. The tempura had 6 pieces total which is a decent size for a combo entree. The sushi took a bit longer to come to the table, which was surprising.... The fish was much thicker than other Japanese restaurants. We ended up not being able to finish our rolls and packed it up. The portion size will not disappoint. In terms of quality of the rolls, it was average. They were often unequal sizes and not rolled tightly but once again, for the price, definitely worth it. My other friends had the tekka and sake don and the beef curry don. My friend with the sashimi on rice was extremely pleased with the size and quality of fish. The beef curry don had a lot of sauce and the portion seemed smaller than expected – but she claimed it tasted ok. I would return to Tenshi but would make reservations just in case.
Amazing!!. My bf and I just moved to Sunnyside and used to go to Fuji Yama for our sushi..but after eating at Tenshi, I won't ever go back to Fuji!! The fish is so fresh, the chefs are super generous with fish portions and they don't put too much rice around the rolls! The prices are good too!! I don't mind waiting for my sushi, because I know it'll be good and done right!
Awesome sushi!!. I have been to Tenshi sushi 3 times now and it has always been fresh and delicious so far.. just wishes it would be a bit bigger but its totally worth the wait!!

I'm sad I only found this sushi place three days before moving out of Calgary. Most sushi places in town are so overpriced for what you get. Tenshi was so affordable with decent size sashimi pieces, although rolls were quite small. Overall really good value with decent service.
Sushi is fresh, tasty, and extremely well priced. Service is consistently terrible. If you're patient you'll get a good plate of sushi for a good price.

Sushi is my favourite thing to eat, and this is easily one of the top 3 places I've been to. The portions here are HUGE. If you ever come here, I highly suggest getting the salmon nigiri/sashimi and the spicy tuna sashimi. There's no better place in Calgary that can give you such generous portions at reasonable prices.
My boyfriend and I go here on a weekly basis and usually get the following:
- salmon nigiri
- spicy tuna sashimi
- spicy spider roll
- avocado and yam roll
It is a really small restaurant (about 8 tables) so it often can feel a little cramped. Also, the food can sometimes take a while but it's understandable given the small staff.
Overall, this place is my favourite place to go for sushi in Calgary!

Coming from Vancouver I am spoiled when I comes to sushi. This place was a gem. Everything I would expect from van and more. Nigiri was very generous and the unagi had great flavour. Slow prep was obviosly bc of the care being taken with my orders creation.:) defineltly worth the wait. I wil be back as soon as I feel hungry again.
LOVE Tenshi Sushi. It's so quaint and the prices are great and the sushi is really good. Particularly love the tuna belly roll :)

Fantastic.. A group of my friends and I went down to Kensington on Friday night for a birthday dinner. I completely forgot that I should have made reservations but I went in there at around 6:30 pm and the server was extremely friendly and helpful. We were able to grab a table within 20 minutes!
The night was busy and they were a bit slow at serving out the food in the beginning but it was worth the wait as everything was really delicious. We ordered the Combo B (includes like 40? pieces of sushi/sashimi/nigiri, two soups, two sunomono salads and a plate of assorted tempura), the ebi tempura salad (HIGHLY recommended), the 'sushi pizza', and the salmon dynamite roll. Everything was delicious. I think the ebi tempura salad was my favourite dish. The dressing was fantastic and the prawns were perfect, crispy and covered in the amazing sauce. It was like heaven in your mouth. Which is great because 'Tenshi' means 'Angel' in Japanese.
Overall, the experience at Tenshi Sushi was lovely. I would definitely come back again - especially for the ebi tempura salad.
Cheap and yummy!. Went here for a late lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The special yam roll is delightful. With 2 misos and 4 rolls it was only $25 incl. tip. I'll be back....
My fav little sushi spot!. I love this place. Food has always been delicious and seafood has been fresh. Price is great too.
One of my favourites is the #20 - Spicy Ebi Special nigiri. Mmmm! So good. The toro here is always fantastic, and the portions are HUGE for only $2.50.
I have on most occasions that I've eaten in found the service slow and irritating, so I mostly try to order takeout to spare myself the pain. However the food is so good that it's kept me coming back!
Average, nothing special. I went to the spa upstairs and then decided to have dinner here since it was so close by. The food was average, nothing to rush back to. The spicy Tuna was not spicy at all. The agadeshi tofu was a huge portion, but lacked flavor.
Our order was messed up and the waitress didn't let us know what was going to be done. She just walked away. We waited for it to arrive but it never showed up. And when our bill came, it wasn't even taken off our bill until I asked her about it.
Over it was just an average place. There was nothing special about this place so I will likely not be coming back anytime soon since there are so many other better sushi restaurants that are so much better.
Tiny spot > big heart. Excellent value, portions seem to be cut for the western pallet. very fresh, fast and quaint. 4 out of 5 spoons.
I keep coming back.... I love this place, I always come here for sushi. The rolls are a bit smaller than other places but they are delicious and are always freshly made. I'm not a sushi connaseur and am not the type to really venture out to stuff like eel and squid, but I do order a pretty good variety. Good rice, good fish, good service, good sushi!!
Pretty good sushi. I had been there a few times, and it was all good. I always order the Tenshi Deluxe Combo, pretty good value and fresh sushi. The unagi was still hot (temperature wise). Small and cozy place.
Though I did hear from my friend that the rice was cold and hard the other time.

One of the Best. I have been to Tenshi Sushi many times. The prices are reasonable (for sushi) and the quality is great. I moved from the west coast (where sushi is unreal!) and this is the only place in Calgary that met my otherwise un-attainable standards. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend the tenshi roll.
Great fresh sushi. We were told about this nice little sushi place and decided to try it. Pleasantly surprised at the large selection as well as the portions. All are choices were fresh and delicious.
This was really not a bad place to eat. Despite the fair bit of bad reviews my friend and I decided to check this place out. We ordered 6 different but relatively favorable rolls that are most common as this was a trial dinner to check the quality. Overall the general jist was that the rice was not that great. It didn't hold the sushi together that well; however it didnt take away from the entire experience. If you're having a craving for sushi and located in the Kensington area, and don't want to spend a wad load of cedder, I'd suggest this place 3.5 stars out of 5
Average. The service wasn't bad, she always checked up on us to make sure if we were doing ok. I'd say the rolls were about average, nothing really blew my mind, just seemed like sushi everywhere else. I tried the bakudan and the volcano roll, I still think they make it better in Winnipeg though. But I think the volcano roll would taste better without the teriyaki sauce drizzled on top, because it through me off a little. Overall, it was good, but nothing really out of the ordinary if that's what you're expecting. Prices are a little more expensive, but probably cuz of the location. I don't mind it :)
Good food. I've been here a few times and everything I've tried has been good, nothing has been amazing until today, usually we get gyoza (which is nice but not as crispy as we prefer but the sauce is a bit different which makes it interesting) and a couple of sushi rolls ( spicy salmon - good but not the best, dynamite - good not the best) today we decided to try the tiger roll - WOW, it is one of the best rolls I have had, overall tenshi is consistent and delivers good food, maybe not the best around but a great value all around

A nice experience. I went to a CIFF flick at the Plaza last night (Oct 2 2009-100% sold out!) and had dinner beforehand- decided to give Tenshi another try (first time was lunch which was okay but an issue with the cash register made it very frustrating what with the damn thing beeping constantly during my meal) despite reports I'd heard about slow service on yelp etc; it was 5:30 so I figured I'd be beating the dinner rush and had plenty of time. I had an order of gyoza (pork), two unagi nigiri, two hamachi nigiri, one yam/avocado roll, on spicy tuna roll w/ fried tempura bits. Everything was really good and some was exceptional. Gyoza were great, they were pan (not deep) fried and a perfect (non-searing-hot) temp. Nigiri were well-formed with decent sized unagi but the really pleasant surprise was the hamachi, which was sliced quite thick, not paper thin as one sometimes finds at less pricey sushi places. Fish was fresh and not too cold. The rice was very good, well-formed and not too abundant nor too scarce. Rolls were nice- yam/avocado was fine, but the spicy tuna was amazing; it wasn't drowning in spicy sauce (this one is non-mayo based btw) nor was it smothered in tempura bits but it was balanced and absolutely delicious. With just water to drink the bill was a very reasonable $24, and service (maybe because of my early arrival) was very fast; even taking the time to read this week's Savage Love after paying my bill, I was in and out in 40 minutes.
Good stuff. Tenshi Sushi is a nice little space with a view of Kensington out the one large window. The waitresses are always super friendly and attentive and the rolls are always good. The inari nigiri is especially good (they stuff it with rice and cucumber which is nice for a change).

After discovering it earlier this year, Tenshi has time and time again delivered fantastic food for an unreal price. The salmon, tempura shrimp, bbq eel, dynamite rolls, spicy tuna, and California rolls are absolutely to die for.
Yes it is small, but it is worth the possible wait to enjoy. Not to mention the fact that for the portions received, the price is unbeatable. The staff is friendly and attentive and the detailed presentation on the dishes is something that caught me off-guard, you wouldn't expect it for the price you are paying
I would recommend it anyone, especially couples.
Nice Surprise!. Had a late lunch here. Had a lunch special. Chicken teriyaki, miso soup, California roll, shimp and veggie tempura for under $11. Not bad. Ordered a spicy California roll and dynamight roll as well. Lovely. I'd go again.
Our meal was also very good even though it took them nearly 25-30 minutes to take our initial order. Tenshi seems to be a popular place for takeout and walk ins in Kensington and I am glad the food made up for the service that was a tad slow because of the traffic in the restaurant. The cost was also super reasonable for the amount of food we received and the entrees were insane value!!! Here is what we had:

Tenshi sushi is really close to where I live. It makes me happy to know that I am a 7 minute walk away from some awesome sushi. It reminds me of my Kingston days.
