We loved the food. All of it tasted fresh. The guacamole and chips were amazing. The Carnitas were really good the tostadas were crunchy and filling. The alcoholic beverages were sooooo good. I had the passion fruit one, twice. Service was really good and warm and kind. The interior was very warm and cozy feeling. I'm moving to Ontario next month so I was hoping I could try this a couple more times but I recommend that you do!!!
Excellent food. Did a take out. The spicy chicken tacos were excellent. The burrito wasn’t bad either. We will definitely go back to eat in because the inside looks great.

Had takeout from Spicy Amigos a few times. Great selections! The avocados (toppings) are always fresh. The burrito is a good deal. Excellent spicy, non-spicy, meat and vegetarian options.

Ended up at this place because Street Eatery was closed, and we were pleasantly surprised!! Everything was a good price, especially for the portions! I got tacos, which were SO delicious and I couldn't finish them all! We also got guacamole, which he made fresh! The best part was honestly the service! The man working in there was so kind and happy, it really added to the whole experience!! I'll definitely be back, and can't wait to try it out after the bar on a Saturday night!!
So much great to say about this place! First of all there are 9 choices of different and delicious meat options. I've tried 6 now and I'm a huge fan of the Carne Asada steak, chorizo and pork adobado. I used to live in El Paso Texas and there was a place with the best green salsa and I finally found a place with the exact same kind! Only issue I have is the cheese isn't the Queso Fresco stuff, but otherwise AMAUZING!
Arrived 20 mins until closing (wasn't aware they closed at 8) and the guy was still super friendly and helpful with what they had to offer in terms of meat and sauces. I got a burrito with the spicy chicken and chipotle/mayo sauce and it was yummy! Pretty messy due to all of the filling but it was a pretty large burrito. I'll be back for sure, well before the closing time.
Went here tonight after writing my exam. Saw that it was close by and had decent reviews. The gentleman that was working this evening was so incredibly nice and cheery, he definitely made us smile. We both ordered the breaded steak tortas. He said it would take about 10 minutes since he had to make it fresh - great! We had no problems waiting. They came out hot and fresh. The bread was warm and crispy, steak was hot off the grill, lettuce and pico was fresh. Avocado and refried beans were creamy. This place is incredibly tasty, well priced, and does service with a smile. Will definitely be back.
The inside of this restaurant will make you feel like you're in Mexico :) The service is good and the place is clean. My favorite is the burrito, perfect for a workday lunch break. I normally get the smaller one as it is quite large already; I can't imagine finishing the bigger one! The flavors are great and the price is ok.
Great food, service and price. Everything we tried was full of delicious flavour and with nine different unlimited homemade salsas to choose from, lots of choices of meats and the fact they are very generous with all of the toppings we will definitely be back!
Although the meats here are very greasy and messy, this place has an excellent authentic flavor. Both the tacos and the burritos here are excellent choices and are also great value for what you pay. I would describe the spicy amigos as a higher quality and a lot more authentic version of MuchoBurrito. Would most definitely recommend if you have not tried this place before.
We had a fantastic dinner at the Spicy Amigos. The food was delicious and very fresh. The guacamole was made to order and some of the best I have ever had. We had the tortilla soup, quesadillas and burrito, all of which were fantastic and well worth the price. We are definitely going back again soon.

This mexi-place is so close to my work I had to try it out. The owner-manager is on site and über-friendly/helpful so even if you're a newb you feel like a long lost "amigo". The menu is pick and plug so just about every permutation of burrito and burrito plate is available. We opted for the bistec beef and the tinga chicken burrito wraps and then spiked it from the salsa bar with some medium salsa rojo and verde. The ingredients are fresh and the flavours muy bien. The burritos are filled to order in front of you and are gargantuan. They're $12 so not much more than any other good-sized ethnic food wrap...So when you've reached your fill of donair, shawarma, gyros wraps but still need to eat with your hands? Try Jalapeño's and support a good local Mexican place!
Always a pleasure to have authentic Mexican food. Very tasty and always satisfied when I leave. I like the burritos but they are so large you have to use a knife and fork to eat it. I will be back again soon.
Fresh Mexican fare in the city core. Mix and match some fantastic taco options! The owners used to be involved with the Palomino before it was bought by the Concorde Group and they definitely still know how to do meat.
First off.. I LOVE MEXICAN FOOD. I have found it hard to find a mexican place in Calgary that I felt was close to being authentic. That was until my friend took me to Jalapenos. Not a fancy restaurant or anything but the service and food were amazing. The owners were soo sweet and gave us lots of suggestions on what they thought we should try. I got Beef Tongue taco. I was surprised how good it was. I know tongue sounds gross but it was soo tender and melted in my mouth. If they didn't tell me, i wouldn't have known it was even beef tongue.
Im definitely going back to try more of their food :)
The food is really yummy here!!The flavour really comes from the meat you pick and for me some were really delicious and some were okay. It just really depends. And also It can get really messy eating it. I would definitely come back here to try more of the menu out!

Greasy but good. Came here a few weeks ago after work with a friend. Arrived right at 5:00 pm when they were supposed to be open, but waited around until 5:15 when they actually unlocked the door. Small place, prices weren't bad, and the owner was very friendly. I tried the tacos, my friend the quesadilla. The tacos were average size (they were larger than Oro Azul), came with pico de gallo if you wanted. The quesadilla came with a salad of sorts on the side, and when my friend requested extra sour cream, the owner happily obliged and did not charge extra. When I asked for the same cup for the salsa (think mcdonalds ketchup cup) he begrudgingly handed it over and said that people usually just squirt it on. Well, I like to try it before I commit to pouring it over my taco. I chose the HOT green salsa, which was definitely NOT hot. It was barely even spicy. I was pretty dissapointed, and glad I didn't just squirt it.
I had both the chicken tacos, the chorizo and the beef tongue. I would never have tried the beef tongue, but after reviews saying it was a must, I obliged. It was excellent! The best of the 4, absolutely. The other 3 were so greasy and wet that the taco fell apart within moments of picking it up. I could only eat 1 taco with my hands, the other 3 were eaten with a knife and fork - lame. My friend said the same about the quesadilla. I was impressed that she was able to get 2 different meats on the quesadilla though, the owner was accomodating in her indecision.
Overall, pretty good. Price was $12 for 4 tacos or 1 quesadilla w/ salad. I would return, but only for the beef tongue. I would avoid the other meats as they were very greasy and hard to eat.

Tess goes to Jalapenos and has Authentic Mexican Food.. I love it here. I've never been to Mexico but I've heard this places is pretty authentic. The girls are so cute and friendly! I had two chicken and two pork tacos and they were so good! I'm not a huge Mexican food lover so I won't be going all the time, but when I get a hankering for it I know where I'll be!

Blown Away. The food was absolutely incredible. I ordered a chicken burrito and was surprised to get 2 lbs of mouthwatering food all packed into a lovely tortilla shell. All of this was washed down with a refreshing horchata. The food was fresh, the service was amazing as the owner walked us through the menu, and the decor was appealing to the eye. Will be back to try the rest of the items on their menu!

Ok!!!. It's okay food, not bad, but doesn't blow me away. Then again I've never really had a Burrito that made me feel like "damn that's one great Burrito" Kind of on the pricey end at 12 dollars a burrito, but that's to be expected for downtown food. Great Service though. The guy who makes them (possibly the owner) is really nice.
Best Mexican in Canada!!!. This restaurant serves you authentic mexican cuisine consistently, homemade and with the freshest and tastiest ingredients! I have never, in all my travels around the globe, had such a tasty and satisfying burrito. Every meat I choose is delicious and their vegetarian options are so yummy! I've brought many friends both local and international visitors to this joint and they have all raved about it. The owner is always in there serving with a smile and chats to you about your day. He also remembers who you are and when you return you feel welcomed. You can't go wrong with this place! And who has fresh avocados every day and gives you a whole half on a veggie burrito!?!? They are not cheap with their portions and are very reasonably priced! Go on in and say Hola Amigo!

If you want fast but good Mexican, this is the place for you! The portions are large so bring an empty stomach or someone to share one of their awesome dishes.
Excellent Food. Top notch Mexican food. Highly recommended. My only issue is the price. For a sit down restaurant it would be a steal but for fast food take-out $12 is a little steep. Yes they upped their prices from $10 on the online menu.
If they offered a lunch option for under $10 I'd be here regularly but there's plenty of other options in the area for half the price so unfortunately I only make it occasionally when I'm craving something spicy. Did I mention excellent hot sauces too!

Went here with the bf and the second we walked in the door we were welcomed by the owner who gave us a rundown of the menu and informed us of all the food that we may not have encountered before. Left us no reason to skip over something for not knowing what it is. I am so glad too because I ordered one of the beverages and it was amazing. An intro for the incredible meal that was about to come.
I had the tostadas with beef tongue, chicken and pork. I found out in the menu introduction that I could pick any of the meats for each of the three tostadas, so I decided to go for some variety.
Had never had beef tongue before and if it weren't for all the recommendations I may not have tried it, but it was amazing. Tender, and tasty. The owner made our meal himself and as he was putting the beef tongue on my plate he mentioned it was his favourite as well.
The salsa bar was a bit intimidating, but the owner made some recommendations and he was bang on. The salsas he recommended for our respective dishes made them that much more flavourful and fresh.
The owner, knowing it was our first time, followed up with us as we finished our meal. He was genuinely interested in what we thought. The mark of a true restauranteur. Not only does he love his food, but he wanted to know if we did too.
I will be back, and how!

Wow!. I have been walking by this restaurant on a regular basis for the past few months and finally ventured in and WOW was I ever rewarded. The food here is awesome and the owner is fantastic and willing to provide suggestions. I was not 100% sure what to go with and the owner had the perfect suggestions. If you are in the mood for great food this is for sure a great place to go. Will definataly return! Great job Jalapeno's!
Yummmmm. Great little place to go for Mexican food. The staff are friendly, the place is very clean, and the prices are decent! and the food..... YUMMMMM!!! Also, lots of selections for drinks (which I love.. because honestly.. there are more drinks than just Coca Cola)

Hey Calgary, let's support a local small business owner who has been in this area for years. Especially with some new franchise chains popping up around Eau Claire, I think it's really important to support these guys who work hard, day after day and you can taste the love they put into their food. This place has freshly made meats and salsas EVERY DAY. They have a salsa bar with several choices of salsa so you can truly personalize your meal with your preferred heat level. Want some delicious guac with that? They will make a batch for you, fresh to order. I have been here more than a couple dozen times now and the beef tongue burrito is my personal favourite, but there are several protein options to choose from, as well as vegetarian choices. You can't get lengua at any of the chains, only here. Amazing tres leches cake, horchata and Mexican sodas are available too.
The freshness of the food is matched by the cleanliness of the premises and really the only trouble you have after eating here is staying awake because the portions are huge! Let's put our money where our mouths are and support a business that has made our neighborhood a lot more delicious for a long time.
A definite Must Try. A new favorite. I had tacos with various meat fillings. The beef tongue is AMAZING. The salsas are pretty good, as well. Hopefully I will return again soon, there are many other menu items I would like to try!

Good but Scarce. First of all, I am Mexican and I am very picky about anything claiming to be Mexican.
Main points:
1. The stews are named after great stews in central Mexico.They taste NOTHING like the real ones, but they don't taste bad at all, simply the flavor does not correspond to the naming. If you don't know the stews, then you will not know the difference.
2. Good tacos need three things, good stews, good tortillas and good salsas. The tortillas are awesome, the stews not bad and the salsas are decent, not hot at all (not even the hot ones).
3. The owner is not Mexican, he is from "El Salvador", so don't expect true Mexican feeling, also an "Authentic Mexican" which sells burritos is fake (burritos are not Mexican).
4. The portions are huge, and the fresh waters are good and plenty. with 15 bucks you have a GREAT meal.
5. Stay away from tostadas, quesadillas or anything else, this place is for tacos, all other choices in the menu are very "Canadian".
6. If you only stay with tacos, then your choices drop dramatically, and if you take into account that the menu is rather small (about 5 choices with meat variations) then it is a rather boring place.
So the bottomline is, want some good real stew tacos? This is your best Calgarian place. Worth a visit.

WOW!!!. I'm Mexican and believe me, it's very hard to find places with "Mexican food" that I really enjoy, and honestly this is THE place to eat, I loved it! super friendly, fresh, good, clean, I ate 6 tacos, perfect prices!
Amazing and Authentic. We went here for dinner tonight and had the Pastor and the Barbacoa tacos, the chicken tostadas, and tres leches cake - plus some refrescos from Mexico. SO good. Everything is amazing and it tastes just as it should. My boyfriend is from Mexico and we have recently come back from Mexico City and walking in you can smell the tortillas and it literally smells just like you're in Mexico. The prices are extremely reasonable and for a huge amount of food it's even better.
If you're looking for real Mexican food this is definitely the place and the other reviewers aren't lying! We've tried every other place in the city and this is the absolute best and we have just found our new Friday night place!

Delicious. Had lunch here today. Wow. I'm incredibly blown away. It's a cute little place, with really great service. I really enjoyed the food. I had the tostadas! Crispy, with lots of meat, beans and veggies. I really liked the salsa as well. Medium was spicy enough for me. I will definitely be back! Like mentioned, don't be afraid to get a little messy with your food! It's finger licking good.

Best Mexican I've had in Calgary. Owner was extremely friendly and helpful with our orders, even cooked up some fresh meat and stayed open a little later for myself and our group of friends! The Food was incredible, plentiful and savory with a plethora of salsas too choose from. Don't think I can go back to other places now that I've been to Jalapeno's.
Visited tonight (quiet Monday night). The owner explained the whole menu, differences between seasonings and his reasons for cooking his way. Great guy, very passionate about his food and craft. Just finished eating and the food was fantastic. Well seasoned, balanced and delicious. The burrito was massive but not greasy or slimy. Tacos were tasty with delicious corn tortillas.
Love the food, passionate owner, everything for $10 or less. I can't wait to go back.

Best Mexican in the City. The End.. Hi, this is my first post but its a long one I had some time to write this. If you don't want to read the whole thing I understand so in summary: I won't eat Mexican from anywhere else. You won't find better Mexican and better service at a better price. That is all.
I'm a Calgary native, yes one of the few. Lived here my whole life and I love many of the ethnic styled eateries in the city. I've tried many different Mexican/Latin restaurants through the years and Jalapeno's has the best burritos, taco and tostadas I've ever had, and I've been to Mexico. The food is authentic and that's coming from Mexicans, I've been there sometimes 2-3 times a week and I regularly hear Latin Americans commenting on this.
The food is awesome. Quality is king, the meats are delicious and the fixings and salsas could not be more fresh. And having all the Jarritos flavours and Horichata (doubt I spelt that correctly) is a nice touch too. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, even during the mad lunch rush.
As for prices in regards to quality and portion size, you won't find anything better. With the Burritos, you're getting a darn big serving (you'll feel like you're having a food baby if you can finish it) for $10, they could charge a few bucks more and no one would blink because you're still getting better value to your dollar than anywhere else.
I've seen some negative reviews on here and they MUST be talking about a different place because honestly, the owner, Douglas, will sit and talk with you if its not busy, just to make sure you're happy and happy with the food. If there is something wrong with your order, it will immediately be fixed or replaced with a smile.
Big Lyle said the chicken he had was dry....that's phyically impossible, I've had every meat there and all are marinated in there own sauce and spices and served directly from this so there's no way for anything to be dry. And for the bad attitude he says he encountered, there's no way it came from Douglas or the ladies serving you. They're always friendly and want to make sure you're in and out and happy before you do.
I know some people are hard to please and that can't be helped but in my many times going there I've never seen anything that would make me think anyone employed there would act like he said they did.

I'm a skeptic and a Critic when it comes to eat Mexican Food and For many years I was looking for a place in Calgary that represent the traditional and authenticity of the food from my country... And FINALLY... Is Here!!! The Tacos, Are Delicious... Exquisite... Affordable... The burritos are "Giants Burros" The same as the burritos in the north of Mexico and California, The variety of meat choices, the Flavors, the tortillas, makes the difference. The Salsas are Fresh, Fresh, Fresh... The Guacamole is made on the spot (Holy Guacamole) Huummm... Fresh, Tasty and Super Delicious... Not from the fridge, (As the owner explained to us) I order one and after ate the first one we order a second one, we ate the whole thing with my girlfrined who was crazy to try this new place, and believe me when I say this from a guy who grow up with this kind of food... FANTASTIC!! I'll be back over and over again for more.
PS: Try the BBQ Beef Tongue Tacos and The Horchata (In House Made Fresh Drink) The best I had in Canada, Love It.

Quick and Delicious. I saw some good reviews of Jalapeno's online so I decided to get a quick bite for my husband and I. He had the beef tacos and I had a chicken burrito. Not only was the service friendly and quick but the food was fresh and very tasty. I could tell that we were eating family recipes. We really enjoyed our meals and it was reasonably priced (around $20.00). I will definitely be back!
Sooooo Good!. At the first bite, I could easily say it was the best burrito I've ever had:D Everything was amazingly fresh and just so so good. Now whenever we're gonna have Mexican, I know where to go!

This is Northern Mexican food at its best. Went with my husband, who lived in Monterrey, and he agreed. Delicious. Couldn't finish my plate, took it home, woke up the next day, ate the leftovers, and now want to go back for more.
P.S. If you're trying to dazzle someone with ambiance or an expensive menu, this is not the place to go. The restaurant is small but clean, the decor is simple, reminding slightly of a fast food place. Food is YUMMY. Orchata is incredible. Owners are very sweet people.
