Fun little place to eat at. The sushi is good too. You grab what you want and you can also order too! My daughter loves it that she can reach over and get what she wants. Good fresh sushi in a fun environment.
Small place but fun atmosphere. The sushi boats are fun, reminds me of Kinjo, however the sushi here is better! Good variety of sushi and friendly service, this place gets busy quick. I enjoyed all the different plates of sushi i grabbed from the boats, however i will say the price really adds up quickly for the handful of plates i had.

The atmosphere is really fun - we miss the kaiten sushi places we enjoyed when we were in Japan, so I feel very lucky that we have a sort of similar idea in Calgary!
It is always pretty busy if you come at peak suppertime (6-7:30 or so) but generally this kind of restaurant is best when it's busy. It's important that people are there to keep the sushi moving or it can sit out for a little while longer than you might like. If you're willing to wait a few minutes for a table, it's absolutely worth it to come at a busier time. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for a large group, but it's perfect for maybe 2-4 or 5 people. Lots of kids here, since it's so much fun to get the sushi off the boats and it's totally okay to just have one or two plates and be finished.
The cooked items are quite expensive and not all that great, so I would really stick to the sushi. Take care to note the color of the plate as this denotes the price! The prices are fairly competitive for Calgary and there's a nice little selection of some fun nigiri and maki items with interesting toppings. I believe it's possible to request specific items directly from the kitchen if you want something you know was made fresh. Watch the sushi chefs in the middle and see what they're making and putting on the boats; then you'll know which items are the newest ones.
Sushi boat sashimi night! Had to get our quick sushi fix for the week. Taste pretty fresh! The waiter thought I wanted double orders and brought 8-12 of everything, so when the food arrived I told him please cancel half the remaining orders and he was kind enough to do so. I did wish there was cucumber bowls that they put the fish eggs in like most the other places I've been to.
My wife and I have been going to Sushi Boat since it first opened many years ago, and I introduced my children to sushi here as well. It is definitely a good place to go for a fast meal (assuming you go at the right time), as you can grab some plates from passing boats as soon as you sit down, and order the ones they don't have available from the menu.
The sushi is pretty good, and reasonably priced. It isn't quite as fancy as some other restaurants, but it also isn't too expensive (e.g. no $20 sushi rolls). The menu is mostly sushi, with a limited selection of warm dishes (udon, tempura, etc). The House Special Rolls are good for hungry people. My wife loves the Seared Tuna nigiri (Maguro no Tataki), my eldest son has the California Rolls with Masago, my youngest son likes the Tamago, and my daughter always orders Inari to finish off. I like almost everything, but would probably call Unagi my favourite...
Reasonably priced and pretty good sushi. The Hawaiian poke special is fantastic. Friendly prompt service. The boats are fun. Expect to wait for a seat during busy times. Avoid the teriyaki salmon roll.
This place is a huge hit with my parents. So much that they started going every Thursday. When I go back to Calgary to visit them, we often eat at least once there. Our family used to go, as there weren’t that many sushi places in Calgary, and even today, compared to Vancouver, there isn’t a huge sushi scene.
Been coming here for years and it has never disappointed!!! The food is amazing and the staff are always friendly!! The best sushi in town for reasonable prices!! The fish is always fresh!
Really enjoyed this place! Loved the option of just choosing whatever you want whenever you want. Food was high quality and very fresh. Prices also reasonable. Would recommend for casual lunches and dinners!
Always enjoyed this place. I like sitting and watching the boats come by and picking up whatever it is that I want. When you order from the waitress the food also comes extremely fast! The sushi is usually fresh and I haven't had a negative experience yet!
I've been coming here for over 10 years. Still love the sushi! This is a great place if you love simplicity of eating fish and rice. They have good udon as well!
I enjoy sitting at the Sushi bar and picking off all the plates that tempt me. (It's like Kinjo only better priced). Sushi boats look like cute little bosts. It's seems like a smaller/slower operation so if you don't see an item on the boat line, just ask, it's still available. Sushi is good/tasty; staff are friendly and happy. Atmosphere could use a little more sparkle but not bad.
I'll go here vs a Kinjo and also over the nearby Sakana Grill.
Fantastic sushi! For the price, this is top notch. Saw a review about thinly sliced salmon - I have to say when we got our lunch it was pretty thick cut I was surprised. Tall Asian man gave wonderful and friendly service. I'm going back for sure!
I love how it's always quick and easy because all the sushi is there for you to pick and choose! Of course, there's always items where you can order and they make it right away for you. The green tea deep fried ice cream is actually pretty good! They also have seasonal fresh sashimi as well and all at a great price!
It had a really beautiful fountain thing in the centre. The sushi was brought out on boats circling the centre while people could choose which one they wanted. The pricing was based off the colour of plate. Really good, would definitely go there again.
Went there for a quick sushi dinner, didn't want to eat too much, but I was craving for Japanese food. Me and my friend had a few plates and we were already good to go. We ordered salmon nigiri and salmon sashimi and it was prepared super fast. Everything was pretty fresh and nicely presented, just looking at the dish made me drool. The flavour was good but not the best, but for the price it is pretty good and the idea of just grabbing the dishes from the boats passing by is cool.
The best aspect of this restaurant is the fact that they have the small boats that move around and allow you to serve yourself, kind of like a giant lazy Susan. It makes the experience much easier as you don't have to really wait to be served. There are many servers present who will take orders for other food such as udon or other kinds of sushi that may not be found on the boats. For the most part the service and food is quite good but you have to make sure to go at the right time. The beginning of the dinner rush or the lunch rush is a good time since the sushi is quite fresh. Otherwise you may be stuck with sushi that has been sitting on the boats for a couple hours. I would recommend this place for anyone looking to have some decent sushi.
Honestly you cannot compare this place to a high end sushi restaurant. This place is very good considering that price and quality. The staff is always welcoming and the food is good!
Sushi boat is place to go when you want decent Japanese food quick. The food isnt the highest quality but it is fast and tastes pretty good and the price is reasonable. The people who make the sushi in front of you are so fast and pro. It is entertaining to watch them. I would come here again!
I wish this place opened earlier. I really enjoy the sushi. Prices are reasonable. Moderately clean. Good selection. Good service. I often go out of my way to come here. According to my Japanese sister-in-law, this place is above average in authenticity and is operated by Japanese people as opposed to chinese or korean people.
One complaint I have though is regarding the non-warm temperature of the sushi.
I like the concept and layout of sushi boat and how you can pick the items off the floating boats. But i do find that each plate depending on the colours do add up, and there isn't much varieties like some other sushi restaurants. I find that sushi boat does offer tasty sushi and other dishes. It is great for people are super hungry and don't want to wait and those who are in a rush. I do like the seared salmon pieces and unagi.
Overall i would prefer going to my other favourite sushi places when i crave sushi.

So-so. It's not really Sushi Boat's fault that I don't like it - the idea of conveyor belt sushi is neat in theory, but in practice often results in not getting what you want or eating fish which has been going around in circles for quite a long time. It's a cool "experience dinner" for a one-off, but the average sushiya in Calgary is so good now that there's really no need to come here for your fix any more. It does seem to have more options and be much cleaner and better organized than before.
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!. It's honestly in my top three sushi destinations in Calgary. I love going here because it's so close to the university. The pricing is very reasonable for quality authentic sushi. The staff is always ready to serve you, and there's always a good selection of sushi going around on the boats. I've literally never had a bad experience here. It's great for lunch meetings, dates, and hanging out with friends. Their tempura is the best I've ever had, their sushi pizzas are unique, and they don't skimp out the spiciness of their wasabi paste. And for me, a good sign of an excellent sushi place is how they handle their tuna (because I'm not a huge fan of tuna) -- the chefs at sushi boat do it perfectly. I recommend this restaurant to everyone who asks for good Japanese food. :)
Love the sweet sauce. we always have a high pile of plates when we go here because food is great. best miso (it's a big bowl with a good price) and I love the seared salmon and spicy tuna
Convienent and good. Close to home and service is always top knotch. Food is reasonably priced and tastes fresh.
My girlfriend have dined there three times now (once for dinner, twice for lunch). All three experiences were fantastic. The staff was friendly, and though the place was busy we never had a lapse in service. The sushi on the boats was good, but the ordered rolls were fantastic. Their sashimi was good and fresh, and their sushi pizza was the surprise hit from our friend who normally doesn't like sushi.
Would highly recommend, expect us dining there again soon!
I didn't like sushi before going here, but it was great. So fun to grab the plate that you want off of a boat on a water track, revolving around the restaurant.
Variety. I love this place its always busy, so always fresh... if you get a table see if you can tower yoir empty dishes the lantern hanging over the table its high so u better be hungry. I've done it with some freinds. It's a great place
Good place for sushi. I love their seared salmon nigiri and spicy tuna here. I always get loads of them. The plus side to this place is they actually put wasabi underneat the nigiri which increases flavour in my opinion
This is probably one of my fave original rotating sushi bar restaurants in Calgary. I started coming here 13 years ago and aside from expanding one side a little, not much has changed. The atmosphere, the people they hire provides great service, the chefs are majority from Japan, the prices increased but is still within reason.
My faves are definitely the spicy tuna roll and salmon sushi pizza. No where else makes it like them! And the best thing is, they're fast! Fast, quality, Japanese food, what's preventing you from coming here?!
So awesome! If you are really hungry, you can get a seat and pick off the boats. Good service and for sushi, it's very convenient. You don't have to wait as long for food, even if you do order.
Great sushi for newcomers. This is a great place for newcomers to sushi. Great tasting sushi and portions allow you to try a variety of different sushi. Spicy Tuna roll is great as well as many others. I come here at least a few times a month.
A place to come back again and again. This place is one of the best sushi restaurant in Calgary. The sushi is fresh and tastey and I love the fact that they do put wasabi inside nigiri. Not only is the food good, the service is terrific. All this comes with reasonable price in all selections. I never had a bad experience in this place, everytime we plan to go there I get super excited.
My only wish is that they bring out the seared salmon nigiri more often, so I don't have to order it so often. Its not really an issue I just feel embarrassed when i keep reordering the same thing from the server >__
Best sushi place in Calgary. Value per dollar is ridiculously amazing. We can't stop going there. Only draw back is long wait times during busy hours/days and they don't take reservations.

It's good and it's cheap. I have been to this sushi place more than 30 times. It's a great place to take friends that aren't looking for an expensive sushi experience.
Keep in mind, you are taking out the "nice" presentation part of the sushi by going for cheap sushi. If people are looking for presentation or a larger selection of diverse rolls(lots of sauces or fusion ingredients), this is not the place to go.
Good:
-Tea is free(although SO HOT)
-Simple and cheap
-It's on a boat for a very interesting eating experience
-Have a lot of good and basic sushi choices.
Bad:
-The sushi can sometimes be "old". Even when you order something that isn't on the boat they may have it sitting on the counter. This is especially true for tempura items that are expected to be hot and are then soggy.
-Expensive items aren't necessarily popular or good items. I know a lot of popular sushi's that could be on the expensive plates(dynamite roll, hello?!).
-They have items not listed on the menu that many people do not order or know to order. I do not know why they refuse to update the menu, either stop serving these items or add them to the list.

Fun and Cheap. I love coming here. For a couple of bucks you can pull a plate off of a boat floating by and before you get through that, another plate floats by... and another... and another.... mmmm. So much fun! The downside? A small selection of fairly conventional sushi with fish that starts losing its coolness and firmness after it goes around on the boats a few times. If you go around 5pm, the sushi is just getting on-board, and is very fresh. If you go later, order from the menu, particularly if you want a deep fried roll or tempura. It costs the same but will be made at the time of order. I am not sure how they keep track of what to pull off the boats (?timed) but I notice the same plates floating around and around sometimes.. The service is attentive I wish they would add Beef Tataki to the a la carte menu. Overall, a very fun place to go where you and guest can fill up for between $20-$30.

Tasty Sushi. We popped in for a late Sunday lunch at Sushi Boat around 2pm. The place was busy but there was very little going around on the boats. We were starved and decided to order off the menu instead. As soon as we ordered, we were told they were doing last call and would we like our bill. Ah that explained the lack of food on the boats. Turns out they are only open until 2:30 on Sunday for lunch. I love the novelty of choosing the food off the boats but the sushi we ordered off the menu was really tasty and the fish was super fresh. The mackerel nigiri was salty and delicious, with the green onion and chopped ginger really adding to the flavor. The sushi pizza with tuna (sliced tuna with spicy sauce on crispy fried rice) was really original and we loved it! We would come back to eat that again. We also really enjoyed the miso soup and spicy salmon roll. They do the salmon roll differently here by serving two very large pieces and lightly coating them in tempura and frying them. The little twist was well received and the salmon so fresh and good quality we both went mmmmmm when we had our first bite. The service from both the waitresses and the sushi chefs was friendly and prompt as well. I will be coming back here for more delicious sushi!

Good food... I’ve been coming here for years. It is a good place with decent sushi and it’s fairly priced. The servers are nice and welcoming, but they do not understand a lot of English. I’ve had some incidents where the fish was either still frozen or was warm. This is not a family friendly restaurant, as most of the seating is bar seating. Overall, would recommend you try it out.
Went to sushi boat tonight and I gotta say the food here is very good. I've been coming here for years now and I love how cheap everything is for the quality of food. It was worth the wait. I recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a cheap eat. Hope this review is helpful!!
Really fun but not the greatest for a vegetarian. I loved the idea of this restaurant. it was super busy but the staff worked quickly to get everyone through. i was able to grab one roll off the boat and then after waiting and waiting for about 10 minutes for ANYTHING else vegetarian to come by, we flagged down a waitress and ordered from the menu. not as much fun but the meat eater beside me loved it.

Fantastic place! We had a boat load...make that 5 boat loads of sushi at this place, and had a great time! The food was great, and the experience was just as good. Every one that I have taken here has loved it. Great for first time sushi eaters, because you can see what looks good as it floats by.
I go to sushi boat twice a week. It's cheap and not to bad in quality. Go before 6 or after 8 to avoid the crowd.
Good for a quick bite. Great place for eat and go. Whenever I am by myself I get a seat at the bar and I am seated right away. I will admit that there is a long wait If you want a table or booth but the restaurant is small so it is to be expected. The food is pretty basic, well made, and arrives fast ( even if you order off the pink slip). The staff are always circulating around and are very professional, I always have my chair pulled when I'm the bar, which is nice. My safe backup.

Sushi boat is always a good time. My wife and kids love it. Food is fresh, tasty and fast. Service is good and price is OK. If you like it here but want a more cooked items then try Shikiji on 16th Ave and Centre St. That's some damn good food.

Always consistent.... We go there at least once a week and have always enjoyed it. Consistency in sushi is the number 1 quality I look for and they have never disappointed. There's usually a line up outside the door on any given day waiting for them to open at 5 o'clock sharp. They've expanded the menu with new rolls that are amazing. The soups are excellent. I enjoy being able to get a mix of everything for a great price. Staff are always helpful. Was in Vancouver last summer and went to numerous recommended sushi restaurants and was surprised that none were better than Sushi Boat. Spoke volumes to the quality of the food at this place.
Great food and service. Great if you have kids can grab the food the second you sit and the kids love to watch the boats and the chefs.
Authentic KaitenZushi in Calgary. This is my all time favourite casual sushi joints. I've seen complaints about the service not being good, etc. but the point of a kaitenzushi place IS suppose to be more of a self-serve basis rather than waitering. If you want a full on nice expensive Japanese meal with a specific waiter looking after you, this isn't the right place to go. I also saw comments about it being expensive. This I totally disagree. I love the fact that you can order small and never overeat or have to wrap things home. Normally our 2 person dinner at other restaurants would cost at lease $35 - $40 but we can walk out of Sushi Boat with a $25 tab easily. The atmosphere, chefs, service and food choices are exactly what you would see in Japan.

I had dinner here the other night. It was quite busy. We wait for about 30 minutes for a spot to clear up. I thought the servers were very helpful and the sushi was really yummy.
Try the Natto. THis seems to be the only sushi restaurant that I've been able to find Natto. For those who are unaware of what that is, its fermented soy beans. Doesnt sound appealing but man is it ever good. I find Sushi Boat to be more than adequate when looking for a quick fix.
