Vegetarian lunch buffet is very good! First time at a vegetarian only buffet and can say I didn't miss having the meat. Not a huge buffet but just enough to get a good fill, 6-8 hot items, a couple of salads, and a dessert item. Tasty food, excellent service at only $9.99
The restaurant offers great veggie dishes. All of the dishes tasted really good and you definitely won't missed the meat. The service was very friendly and the place was packed. I guess my only criticism was the food was not very hot because they were on the buffet heat trays.
I have to say, being a vegetarian nowadays is probably much easier than back in the old days (how long ago, can’t say. Just making an assumption). Vegetarian food can be so versatile and it’s no longer just tofu and greens, although a lot of mock meat is still made with tofu or soy protein components. I went on a vegetarian diet for 30 days and it actually went pretty well! I did not stuff myself with carbs this time around but I’ll say this… tofu does not fill you up for long! And I don’t like beans. So I would fail miserably if I were to give up meat for life.
The vegetarian Chinese food here is out of this world! I haven't ever had veggie food this good before. My husband, who loves meat, found the food excellent as well! I highly recommend this restaurant. I can't wait to go back!
Phenomenal vegan Chinese food in Calgary! This was my second time here, and the food was outstanding. I was starving after a run on the Bow, and demolished the 1000 layer tofu rolls, crispy seaweed rolls with cashews, and Singapore style noodles. I left full and very happy. This will be a regular stop when I'm in Calgary!
Great vegan dining. Bit on the pricey side for Asian but typical for vegan. Our three kids loved it (5,3,8mths). We went with 5 adults so managed to cover a good portion of the menu. More GF options than not on the menu. I'd skip straight to the sorbet on the dessert options.
Wonderful vegetarian restaurant! We had what was possibly the best tofu dish I've ever eaten - Thousand Layer Bean Curd Sheets with Spinach. It was beau et belle! The rest of the dishes were delicious, too.
In addition, the ambiance was lovely and calming, the tea selection very good, and the service (by the owner) humourous and attentive.
And the price? Very affordable.
Excellent food and service! We had the fried taro ball, the fried soy sauce noodles and the mixed veggies and they all taste very good. Server was very polite and attentive. Highly recommend.
Fantastic!. Stunningly good meal! We had the kung pao soy nuggets, the asparagus salad roll and the lotus tofu puffs. Everything was beautifully presented and even before tasting anything we could see that the food is prepared with a skilled hand. But as to the tastes- magnificent. The kung pao was perfectly spicy and savoury and the protein, tofu skin and either a tofu or seitan firmer thing, was delicious and a fantastic, meaty texture. The asparagus rolls were magical- the wrap seemed a bit like a soft wheat-based starch but whatever it was it had a delightful soft chewiness. There's seaweed in there which adds an interesting note, and something a tiny bit sweet... complex and addictive. The tofu puffs had a third sauce that was like a hoisin but with tamarind, really delicious, and the puffs themselves were mesmerising. We loved every bite, every part of this meal. I cannot recommend a place more highly and can't wait to try more.
Oh, the restaurant itself is quite pretty and upscale, which came as a surprise as we were expecting a tiny hole in the wall for some reason- it's not that remotely. Very comfortable experience, very professional staff. Eat here!
Delicate, Refined Taste - A Real Treat!. Surprisingly delightful - both the food and the decor. Beautiful is the word that comes to mind. The food was so delicious, but not in an overpowering way... gentle, soothing... made me feel happy. We ordered the "Combo" but since I was not familiar with any of the food the elderly gentleman, waiter, selected 5 different things for me to try. Everything was really good. He also recommended a "red tea". I am an experienced tea drinker, but this tea was so aromatic and "beautiful" that I am still thinking about it today. The service was friendly and gracious. Overall a really great experience.
We like it. Closed for Jan Feb March
Looking forward to when it opens again.
For now we rely on tamarind Vietnamese
Great food! Pleasant atmosphere!. I was invited to this place not knowing that it was vegan until the bill came. The place is open, bright, and tastefully decorated. The background Christmas music was bordering on muzak but was unobtrusive and added some calm to the place. Chairs were comfortable and tables were pleasantly large. A good, quiet place to sit and chat.
The staff including the owner were very friendly. Food took a while to arrive - which the owner blamed on the new kitchen staff. We ate eggplant with 'delightful sauce' and a mushroom dish with tofu. Both were nicely presented and very tasty! Yummy!
The overall value was pretty good. I'd like to take my wife there, but the restaurant is having a three month pause. Look forward to the spring when they will open again. I can highly recommend this Taiwanese vegan restaurant even to meat and potato people.
Excellent Veggie Restaurant. This is one restaurant where I believe the food could possible be blessed when coming out of the kitchen. Feels good just eating it. Servers were fantastic. Bright and clean atmosphere/ambiance. I have been there many times now and would love for them to set up a loyalty program to reward frequent diners.
Thank you for a great experience every time.
Love, Love, Love Ambrosia Veggie!!!. I've been vegetarian for 20 years, so I was very excited to test out this new restaurant in the Avatamsaka Monastery building. I brought four hesitant carnivores with me. Not surprisingly, we enjoyed every single dish...including Fried Taro Puffs, Crunchy Seaweed Sticks, Tomato and Vegetable Soup, Soy Nuggets in Sweet & Sour Sauce, Jade Rolls with Vegetables, Lotus Tofu Puffs, and Spicy Eggplant Hot Pot. The staff were fantastic and happily provided suggestions. Our server was just adorable and had a fantastic sense of humour. The atmosphere was very nice- and not too noisy- so it was easy to converse. I highly recommend this restaurant for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike!
Great new Veggie Restaurant. Ambroisa has been a recent addition to the Calgary vegetarian restaurant scene. Happily it's a terrific new addition - the restaurant has a great atmosphere with lots of seating, a great view of the river and kensington across the way. Even better, the food we ordered was very tasty, and arrived at our table quickly, nice and hot. I highly recommend the crunch seaweed appetizer - could have had an whole extra plate of that tasty treat. Can't wait to go back.
Been here a few times, authentic Asian vegetarian, best part is: garlic n onion free! Delicious, home style food, friendly service, relatively small portion.
Amazing!. I am so excited about this place. The food is super good and all vegetarian, location is lovely and service is so adorable. It's authentic Chinese food that is vegetarian friendly.
Great Chinese Food in a Simple but Beautiful Atmosphere. This is a well-run restaurant. The service was genuinely warm and friendly. The food came out in a timely manner, and it was delicious and carefully prepared. This is not a fine dining resto but you can expect much better than the average Chinese food around Calgary. Come for the view and service, stay for the food. Just be sure to check the hours, which are a little "constrained."
Yum!. Really good food, nice atmosphere. Just wish the portion sizes were larger!
