Review Jinya Ramen Bar - Calgary - Calgary

Taste was good. Chicken broth also good but a little bit blend for me. (Jinya Chicken Ramen) If they had a togarashi powder(chili powder), it would be great. I added chili oil instead but not the way I wanted to. Restaurant's Mood is good but too dark for me so easy to get your eyes tired. Service was not that bad but not that good. Price wise a little bit expensive. Overall, I will visit again in the future.

Ramen was good and very flavourful. The salmon taco and cone have good flavour. They presented the Salmon cone on raw rice box. There were few raw kernels in between the cone. Besides that everything was good. Service was good also.

Food was good, they have vegan options. We ordered ramen, i promise! And they were really good! I was just slow to take pictures! My party eats fast and ramen serving is big! We ordered 3bowls of ramen for party of 4. Chasu donburi came out fast and really good! The tacos were baby tacos but excellent! We got Jinya bun and crispy spicy shrimp tempura that my kids snacked on...ask the dressing on the side. The place sits 30-40? So it gets full fast, we were ealy and got seated right away, in a span of 10minutes place was packed for lunch.

First time trying Jinya Ramen Bar, great set menu for Ramen dishes, love the flavours and everything goes we’ll together. Only giving 4 stars because I wish you had the ability to customize the broth flavours with all dishes, since alot of others may have certain dietary restrictions but may still want to try alot of the ramen choices just can’t because of the some broth ingredients etc.

I’ve been here a couple times, I really enjoy the texture of the thin noodles. They’re not overdone or soggy. Although I wouldn’t recommend the singular cocktail that they have there. Overall, I would come back again.

Jinya is my favorite ramen place in the city. Their menu selection accommodates vegan and gluten free soups and noodles. Delicious small plates and they've recently added Impossible meat substitutes to a number of items. Always bustling but their service is efficient so you can generally get seated in reasonable time.

I had fond memories of JINYA as a chain having visited several; unfortunately this one has some issues. Server felt more inclined to clear plates and interrupted my eating. A strange rule here prohibits serving of hot water? Yet they serve hot sake. The good: environment, gyozas we’re spot on delicious. Ordered: JINYA tonkotsu original 2010, enjoyable but unfortunately marred by not so fresh cha siu (the taste when meat starts to go bad!)

My first time trying food here but it was definitely 1 of the best ramen places in the city hands down! I tried their 'Flying Vegan Harvest', its for anyone who can handle a bit of spice, great flavors come through, while the broccoli was a bit unseasoned, the broth and seasoning sauce made up for it. The noodles were well cooked and thin making them very light to eat. The tofu was also delicious. There is no need for extra toppings as the ramen originally comes with a lot on it. Overall great food and I would definitely come back here!

Tonkotsu broth was thin & one-dimensional. Chashu was more fat than meat. Bowls were expensive & portions were small. Luckily the Sprouting Up bowl had additional items to enhance the flavour (2/5).

I've been there twice with different colleagues. Ramen is very tasty with full of flavors and well prepared toppings, so as all appetizers.<br/>Why 4 stars? Music. Too loud that makes us need to yell at each other at the table which makes the space more noisy. All of us had hard time catching what the helper was saying to us or talking to each other. Both time, after leaving the restaurant, we were saying "food is good... but... not again." Please turn down the music.

Ramen is very tasty, would recommend the food, service not so much. When ordering for pick up, staff on phone are very hard to understand (poor english). You can hear that it is extremely loud in the background and it makes it difficult for customer to place an order. I had to repeat myself multiple times and staff member was rude when I had to  correct my order if repeated back to me incorrect. Seems to me that customer service is a big/ very common concern in most all of the reviews not so much the food.

I’ll start off by saying I rarely leave a negative review and this place was one of my go-to. My mom’s chicken from chicken chashu rice tasted very stale like it’s about to go bad, and she was worried about getting SICK so she stopped eating it. All our family members confirmed that the meat tasted off and talked to the manager (and my mom’s the “just let it go” type but even she felt the need to talk to the management). She took the bowl and returned saying “all our staff tasted it and it’s fine” and even went on to say “maybe it doesn’t meet your standards but it meets our staffs’” and never once apologized, leaving us dumbfounded and furious. I’ve had chicken chashu here before and numerous other places and know what it should taste like, and we felt disrespected for giving a feedback. It used to me one of my go-to ramen places but will avoid this place like a plague from now on.

Came here on Sunday for lunch at 1230p. Started to get busy. We got a table for 4 right away but a few minutes later there was a line. This is an American chain. Seems very hip with lots of people but also families. They were very busy which is a good sign.<br/><br/>I had the Tonkotsu Spicy with thick noodles. Broth was perfect and the noodles were great texture. No egg though which I didn't realize. Kids had Tonkotsu Black with thin noodles. They seemed to enjoy it. Came with a full egg. They also ordered extra noodles this time thick. At other Ramen places normal noodles seems to be between this ones thin and thick. Wife had the Sprouting Up Tonkotsu with thick noodles. Lots of sprouts - she doesn't like Brussel sprouts. Good flavour. She thought the noodles were too thick and the thin ones too thin.<br/><br/>Servers were friendly and quick and came by to check on us once in awhile. They serve tap water here so I went with a Sapporo which came quickly. Food was quick too. Parking is street parking which can get filled up on Sunday.<br/>

Ramen was okay seemed a bit bland and top of the broth was very oily from the fat.. the gyoza we had was pretty good, but ive definitely had better.

Spicy chicken ramen was delicious! Thr service was quick and very friendly. It's a bit small so you might have to wait but it's quickl. The Bao was very good too it was a nice size

Highly recommend for people who love ramen and also for people who don’t. Very polite staff. .... I’m visiting again soon. ........... keep it up

In and out in 20 minutes! (We clearly eat too fast.) <br/><br/>The restaurant is smaller, louder, and more crowded than expected but it felt sufficiently cozy. I got the Spicy Chicken Ramen. The broth was flavourful but the chicken itself wasn't great. Service was quick and friendly. Convenient location and slim pickings for chicken broth ramen in Calgary mean that I'll return to Jinya.

The sprouting up ramen was delicious! I love how the restaurant puts condiments on the table so you don't have to ask for them (I'm talking about the hot sauce, love spicy things). The food was quick and service was good. I like the thicker noodles better but if you like spaghetti like noodles, try the thin one.

people here are very nice and friendly and the BBQ pork bun is a must have. but I can't help but to complain about the ramen portion, the spicy tonkustu ramen I ordered is about a snack size, need to order another refill to barely fill myself. Hope they can improve that.

Five us went out for lunch and were expecting great things, but ...  my sprouting up ramen  broth was too salty, the server was abrupt and rude, and it was so noisy we felt like we were trying to compete with the music.  Were they trying to make it so no one could carry on a conversation and leave?   I noticed we were the only ones trying to talk to each other.

There was a hair in my f soup, which when I stirred it came up from the bottom. I asked for a new soup and the manager came over to point out that everyone in the kitchen is wearing a baseball hat, implying that it was perhaps my hair! My order that came was not what I had ordered but the waiter never came by again and when I asked to confirm that this was what it was the manager argued with us saying that it was our fault and never did anything to correct the situation. No one came by again to give us refills or clear our dirty plates. We will never return here again. customer service was terrible!!! And we are not even ones to complain usually but this was beyond terrible.

First impression - a small noodle bar but clean. Friendly people. Quick service. Okay ramen - too much salt for me. I went back the second time - same salty ramen bowl. I’ll ask them to lower the salt next time I visit.

Went here when it first opened and decided to try again tonight. Service is good, ramen served fast. I ordered the Tokyo tonkotsu ramen and honestly it does not taste like the ramen in Tokyo. Noodles are good but missing that "bounce". Cha siu was ok but needs a little more smoke flavor. I ordered corn and it came on the side. The egg was the best part - salty, runny yolk and cooked perfectly. Broth was a little over salted and had an oily feel to it. I had to wipe my mouth a couple times because my lips felt sticky. I also had the crispy chicken (combo with ramen). The chicken pieces are way too big. Hard to eat and the inside isn't crispy because the pieces are so thick. Good atmosphere though and good location.

Adventure time! Yes, we stopped by Jinya Ramen Bar today located down 4 St. SW downtown past 17 Ave. Feeling the chills today we tried the Tonkotsu Ramen and fried Chicken (who doesn't love chicken?). The fried chicken here is crispy, tender and delicious (good job!). The ramen here is flavorful but I found the broth to be salty and dense. I would however give this place kudos for their presentation and effort. The egg with the ramen was nicely cooked (outside looked hardboiled but the inside had a runny yolk). Prices here are approximately $15 for a ramen bowl, and the staff are friendly. Don't be alarmed when someone yells at you when you walk in. It's Jinya's greeting of saying hello.

There is not a lot when it comes to vegan options, you can get the vegetarian but with vegan noodles, or you can get the spicy creamy vegan, which is what me and my partner had.<br/><br/>The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable in the menu, service is quick, and the dish is pretty damn good.<br/>Loved the texture of the noodles, all the toppings/add-ons, the broth had amazing flavor, but I not very spicy and a tad bit salty. <br/><br/>I've looked at other places for vegan ramen, and so far this one seems to be the best.

Worst ramen I’ve had in Calgary. Overly salty, not hot, bad noodles. I never complain or leave bad reviews, but this is warranted. Spoke to manager to make a complaint and he brushed it off quite arrogantly. We never ever complain, we are the type of people that tip on bad service, but this was beyond bad. Worst.

This place is trendy, LOUD, and very mediocre. Only tried the ramen - a Tonkotsu special. It lacked the creamy richness that should be associated with a good pork bone Tonkotsu broth. The broth basically tasted like really salty beef broth. Execution was poor - onsen egg and pork slices were still cold. Maybe the soup wasn't poured on top of it, or the soup wasn't hot enough? By the time the egg and pork were decently warm, the soup was lukewarm. The noodles were an interesting chewy texture. There was a large amount of chopped white onion in the soup which completely overwhelmed the broth. On top of the food being disappointing, service was completely lacking (nonexistent?) and everytime someone entered the restaurant the staff shouted a greeting. I've experienced that at other Japanese restaurants, but here it was insanely loud. Will not return.

Finally a ramen joint in Calgary that doesn’t embarrass the cuisine!<br/><br/>A little disappointed that noodle thickness isn’t an option but overall neither are great anyway. (Thick is spongy, thin is mediocre)<br/><br/>Most of the broths are fairly good and I’m partial to the Cha Cha Cha, I feel that they spread themselves thin in quality by providing too many options though.<br/><br/>Side dish choices are standard and get the job done, service was prompt!

Great place to eat. Usually busy so you know the food is good and delicious. A bit on the pricey side but overall, really tasty food. I like the fact that the spice level has different variations! I love me some spicy ramen!

The ramen is tasty enough considering this is a chain, but the service is awful. Constantly trying to upsell me on other menu items got annoying and I (and my appetizer) were forgotten by my server several times. Haven't found a better bowl of ramen in this part of the city though.

Thought we would check out Jinya Ramen for a quick lunch. After arrival we stood in the front entrance with another couple completely ignored by the manager as she scolded and yelled at her server instead of greeting or serving us. We were taken aback and simply left, completely rude and unprofessional. Will never return.

The ramen bar looks like a regular bar on the inside, with low lighting, seats near the kitchen and music playing in the background. The ramen are in small bowls, but are fulfilling. I had the "Old Skool Ramen," and it was delicious. The dessert I ordered, which was the "Panna Cotta," was delicious, since it had the sweet vanilla ice cream and good sort of jelly texture to it. The service was alright. The waiter that served us was good, but seemed busy, as there wasn't enough people serving the customers and we had to wait a bit to get our bill. The atmosphere of the restaurant is friendly and lively. There are fifteen different ramens to choose from, from their menu and the prices for the ramen are good. I would say that a group of possibly six to eight people is the maximum for one of their tables. My overall experience at the ramen bar, was a pleasant one.

Very tasty!! The ramen is quite delicious really good flavour. I would have liked it to be a bit more spicy so I will ask for more spice next time, they did have hot sauce / paste on the table that was really good too ! They had some really good looking appetizers as well so I will definitely make my way back there to try more.

Probably the best bowl of ramen I've had in Calgary, where I've been frequently left wanting. Reminiscent of ramen I enjoyed in Tokyo. I was excited to see that they had tori paitan, but I could not resist the allure of the Cha Cha Cha. It was thick and rich and had an excellent, mildly spicy, warming flavour. Service was lacking a bit-- they seemed understaffed? The Jinya Bun was mediocre and I would say not worth it. Next time would love to try the tempura Brussels sprouts and the chicken ramen!

JINYA Ramen Bar continues to expand. First heard about them in Vancouver and now, they’ve already set up shop in Calgary. Hours are pretty good. Everyday open till 10:00pm!. Menu from the outside. The inside is very chic modern. Thought the brick wall with tonkotsu styled pig image was cool. Happy hour menu (from 3:00pm to 5:00pm).

My initial visit was 4 Stars but my previous visit was so terrible I had to come back to revise the review.<br/><br/>Quality of food and service has gone downhill substantially. Ramen is undercooked (manager claimed they recently switched noodles to the whole-wheat kind.) They actually tried to disprove our opinion and stuck a fork in both our bowls then proceeded to slurp the “undercooked” noodle right in front of us. Soup was lukewarm instead of hot as well. I felt like I was eating rubber bands in a bowl of dishwater. <br/><br/>Will not be back until management addresses some of the issues.

This one is in more recent memory and I can better describe this place to everyone :) I first had Ramen Jinya in Vancouver on Robson Street by Rogers Centre.  It has now moved to other parts of Vancouver and they opened more than one store even.  This ramen place is a North American chain and it is more than a decent bowl of ramen.  This is probably as close as you can get to Ichiran Ramen, Santouka Ramen, Ippudo Ramen, etc in Alberta.  I am dead serious.  All the other ramen places in Calgary are good but they are not a huge recognizable chain like this one.  I still like Shikiji, Shiki Menya, and Muku in Calgary.  I still like Yuzen in Edmonton.  Don't get me wrong.  <br/><br/>The cha cha cha ramen I got was so oily it reminded me of what I got in Paris - a full fat tonkotsu ramen.  I pressed some fresh garlic on top even to make it even more garlicky.  It was rich.  I had to almost close my eyes and pretend that I wasn't slurping all of that animal fat down my throat.  I liked it though.  The next time I'll just stick with the black garlic oil ramen that I had in Vancouver for a slightly less fatty experience.  <br/><br/>I think what shocked me the most was how good the vegan ramen tasted.  First, I couldn't believe that the broth was made with vegetables only.  Second, I didn't remember eating anything vegan that good!  Especially not an asian dish.  That was very nice of Ramen Jinya to keep up with the times!  <br/><br/>I got some appetizers like gyoza's, char siu pork buns, and fish tacos but they weren't the stars of the show.  They were just there to compliment the ramen and give me a change of pace to the stars.  Please give Ramen Jinya a try.  This place is special and it is dear to my heart.  I know it didn't get the best of reviews in Calgary and that's fine, but do give it a shot to see if it's your thing!

I could not believe all the hype behind this restaurant. There is a bit of a wait to get a table at certain times. If you come after 1:00 pm on Saturday it seems the rush is down for a bit and some tables empty can be found after the lunch rush. We got the bun, takoyaki, 2 other bowls of spicy ramen. Maybe I was too full from the appetizers to really appreciate the ramen. I can not say it's the best bowl of ramen but it was not bad either. The soup was really thick so a glass of coke was welcome to wash it down with. The menu is quite large and there is a good selection of appetizers and some desserts. I would probably come back if i was in the area but i would definitely not go out of my way to come here. It did not blow me away but the service was pretty good considering the past reviews.

Cha cha cha. Very tasty and rich broth. Tempura brussel sprouts awesome as are the curry chickpeas. Iced green tea was refreshing. The service was excellent. The curry rice had nice flavours and the rice was cooked properly.

The appetizers are delish! Whether it was the Spicy Creamy Shrimp Tempura or the Pork Gyoza, every bite was juicy, and they looked mouth-watering to boot!<br/><br/>The takoyaki -- it was just perfect. I don't have all that many experiences to compare with, but I really loved the large mouthful size haha, the soft outer layer, and the chewy centre.<br/><br/>I began to think I wasn't a ramen girl, but Jinya proved to me that I just had specific tastes. I tried my friend's Tonkotsu Black but it was the normal meh. Then I tried the Cha Cha Cha that I bravely ordered (because I loved garlic normally but never tried it in ramen form) and fell in love with it since! The thick chewy noodles were a plus and a great combo.<br/><br/>From then on, every time I went to Jinya, I've recommended that everyone get the Cha Cha Cha with me, and no one's regretted it yet!

Jinya is has excellent service. I had the best server who was patient with any questions that I had and gave great recommendations or suggestions. Their service aligns well with the ramen they serve - depending on what you get.<br/><br/>I wasn't too much a fan of the Cha Cha Cha since it was rather bland, but the Tonkotsu Spicy is going to be my Jinya favourite. Their pork for ramen is incredibly tender and it carries over to the Pork Chasu & Kimchi mini taco as well.

I would have to say it's some good ramen in town. I will definitely come back for more! Will have to say that the noodles are the best I have had and broth is not too salty compared to other places! Thanks for the wonderful food!

Amazing! One of the best in the city. Will definitely be back. Service was excellent and quick despite the busy lunch rush. Had the Sprouting up ramen and would definitely recommend it.

Service was nothing more than helpful with ordering food, bring it to you and delivering the bill. The menu was an appropriate size with dishes that did exactly what they said they would be. Food quality was entirely reasonable, minimally creative, little flair. Overall pretty good value. Nothing to scoff at but wouldn't race back to Jinya.

I would give 0 for this restaurant if possible. Not recommended. <br/><br/>I had a black tonkatsu ramen with gyoza & salad. Salad dressing has too much soy sauce, gyoza is not crispy enough. The most disappointing is ramen, first of all, they don't use the regular Japanese ramen. Instead they gave us fine noodles like the kind used for Chinese chow mein. Soup is not hot enough and it's greasy. We paid $40 for 2 ramen & 1 combo, not worth the money.

Went to Jinya because so many people recommended it. Not too bad of an experience, I had the spicy tonkatsu the portions was a bit small over all flavourful. My friend has the tonkatsu black and finished his with extra steam rice in his soup.<br/><br/>My 8 year old son ate the Cha cha cha, it was a bit too big for him but he seems to like it more than Pho. The wife had the premium tonkatsu white with thin noodles and gave it 4/5.<br/><br/>We all still agreed ichi rock and Muku are still the best in the city. Went here tonight with some friends....they ran out of the vegan raman. So got the vegetarian one instead. Soup was very salty, we mentioned it to the waiter but all he said was yah that's why he didnt like it as well. Not the best in customer service.....<br/>

I was part of a group of 6 and some of my friends arrived earlier to get a table (they don't take reservations). When I arrived, my friends were hanging out by the door because they don't seat groups until everyone has arrived. There was clearly empty tables inside and no one else was waiting, so I'm not sure why they had to enforce this rule. The inside of the restaurant is really dark and I could barely see what I was eating. The music was also really loud so we couldn't really have good conversation. I had the tonkotsu black ramen, which contains thin noodles, and I found the portion to be very small compared to bowls with thick noodles. It tasted good, but I wasn't full. We were charged mandatory gratuity, which was a little odd, as most restaurants only do this for groups of 8 or more.

Had the spicy miso ramen which was fantastic. My other friends had the spicy tonkotsu and the tonkotsu black. Portions were slightly smaller than average, however, the soup was very flavourful (a tiny bit salty in the spicy miso). If you go here, Note that even though the menu doesn't say, 18% tip was charged automatically on our bill. The server also didn't say anything. This resulted in all of us tipping twice.....the server made no mention when he saw our bill receipts, he just smirked and ran off. This left us feeling a little cheated....so be warned. He also kept trying to ask us if we wanted extra noodles (which is an extra charge)...overall, though the food is good, I can't help but feel as though I was being ripped off or pressured to spend more. My 26$ meal turned into 38$.

Love this place! I always make an effort to stop by when ever I'm in Vancouver. I was very excited to hear they expanded to Calgary. The broth was flavorful, had lots of noodles and I love the variety of toppings you can add. I love that the garlic comes in whole pieces that you can press into the broth. Definitely would recommend!

Heard this was a new place they came into town and as it is ramen had to give it a try. I've seen other locations on my travels through Vancouver and heard that it's a pretty strong and consistent brand. <br/><br/>The room itself was pretty good with very tasty and fatty pieces , I had no problem slurping up all of the broth. The portions are large when it comes to the ramen, large enough that I was able to share with my fiance. They had a lot of choices for side dishes sharing plates and appetizers. The poke salmon tacos were good but a little on the expensive side at 2.50 per taco. Counterpart to the poke taco was the shasiu tacos that werent as flavourful or memorable.<br/><br/>We had a pork bun and the bun itself was very authentic and sweet.<br/><br/>Their desserts of green tea mocci or chocolate mocci were decent but the panna cotta took the show for me. Chunks of caramel squares were welcome in the smooth mix.

Finally got to try this place after last time when i saw the huge line up that made me keep driving. Meet a friend for dinner after coming right for work and made it there for 5pm. There was already a bunch of ppl there. By 6ish they were already full. Talked to friends who been there before and recommended the takoyaki and I usually love takoyaki but did not like these at all.. didn't like the egg tartare that it was on, would not order it again. I got the cha cha cha ramen in was told it was for garlic lovers and would be very garlic but I was disappointed. It came with a jar of raw garlic and a garlic press on the side. I did not want to press raw garlic into my soup. There was a generous portion in my bowl, the broth was ok but I he had better elsewhere. I also added the gyozas and salad combo for $5. I had to ask for tea refill twice before someone would come. It seemed that only one person could only serve our table or the person we asked had to tell another person to do it. I can say I came to try this place to see the hype but definitely not worth waiting in line for.

I went with a few friends over the weekend as it is a new ramen restaurant. I ordered the special that just came out which was a cilantro ramen. The soup was good as it tasted very clean and flavourful. The size was a little small for the price though. I do like how, if it is not enough, you can order an extra side of noodles (for a price of course) as long as you have some soup base left which is different. <br/><br/>In the end, I will definitely come back but it may not be my go to ramen joint.

-Wait time is too long. <br/>-Servers tend to take their time. <br/>-Food is okay.<br/>-It wasn't the best ramen place I've been too. <br/>-there wasn't very many or interesting ingredients within the bowl. It looked pretty empty with just the noddles, some green onions and a little bit of meat. <br/>-price range is okay but I expected more for what I paid for.

I tried the Tonkotsu white.  I find it average, not bad but not surprisingly good.  The place seems to get a lot of hype and crowded.  The servers seem distracted and not very attentive.  It was difficult to get their attention to order something or to get the bill.  I prefer Ikemen in Kensington.

Very tasty ramen bar, menu full of variety. We tried the spicy tonkotsu ,the thick ramen noodles were a little under cooked, not soft enough. And the premium tonkotsu was tasty, broth was rich and creamy, the thin noodles were done very well. Salmon poke was good, but pricy. And the charsu buns were good and also a little pricy, the bun was a little dry the meat could be cooked a little longer to get more tenderness. Staff were friendly food was served quick

BY FAR the BEST ramen I've had in the city!!  I heard great things about Jinya, and they were not wrong!  We went for lunch and the service was very friendly and quick!

Luckily for my friend and I, we did not have to wait too long to get a spot. We were seated at the long table which was awkward for conversations. Nonetheless, we were served promptly and checked on frequently. I really liked the avocado salad. It was very refreshing. The noodles were alright but I'm not a huge fan of ramen.

Jinya Ramen Bar is a famous ramen chain restaurant. It's know for their famous broths. This restaurant is a great addition to Calgary's 4th Street along with other popular restaurants such as Bocce and Suzette's Bistro. This was my second time here, but I ordered the Sprouting Up Ramen again as I was very satisfied with it the first time. We also ordered the salmon poke tacos and also the kimchi pork belly tacos. The tacos were both very tasty, but I think the pork belly tacos could use less sodium. My ramen consisted of pork chasu, Brussels sprouts, spicy bean sprouts, kikurage, green onions and ginger. The broth was a combination of chicken and pork broth. I found this to be a great combination as it evened out the broths saltiness. I would recommend this Ramen for anyone trying Jinya anytime soon. Overall, I loved my experience here, but hope that they turn the temperature down as it felt like a sauna in the restaurant.

Hosts were hospitable however service seemed a little disjointed, but they pulled trough and we didn't wait long for our food. <br/><br/>I ordered the Cha Cha Cha (garlic) ramen with thick noodles. The broth wasn't too salty which I appreciate. Rather, the broth was steamy hot, fatty/rich and flavorful. Didn't really understand the raw garlic option (where you crush your own garlic into the soup). It came with a few pieces of pork belly, perfectly cooked egg, bean sprouts and thick noodles. The thick noodles had a good chew. Not usually a fan of ramen because it's characteristically too salty but they did well here. My portion seemed larger than normal ramen sizes and I was hurtin after I finished the meal. <br/>

I was walking home from a doctor's appointment when I smelled the most delicious aroma. I looked around and saw Jinya. I was immediately greeted upon entering with cheerful smiles and quick service. <br/><br/>I ordered the JINYA Tonkotsu Black ramen, no spicy sauce. It arrived in mere moments and was utterly delightful. The broth was wonderfully rich, and the noodles had just the right texture. The smoked egg was cooked to perfection. My only small complaint was that the chasu pork was sliced slightly thicker than I would have preferred. <br/><br/>I'll definitely be back soon with my husband.

We went to Jinya on the opening day for lunch and it was busy, as expected.  We waited 30 minutes for a table.  It is probably important to note, that if you are going on a colder day and it is busy, there's not much space to wait inside so dress warm.  They don't hand out "buzzers" or have a restaurant pager system that texts you when your table is ready - they have a hostess who calls out your number (so also don't forget it as she didn't take down names or phone numbers). <br/><br/>On that note, the service could be improved (or hopefully it has since the opening day).  It was obvious that the hostess was new to the role and overwhelmed, the servers/runners also looked inundated by the demand.  Normally ramen restaurants aren't a place to linger but we noticed the servers weren't rushing any customers that had finished eating to leave in order to turn over and serve the line of people waiting outside (I'm talking about you - the four Asian guys nursing a single beer for an hour).  However, we also noticed tables trying to find their servers to pay to leave but couldn't. <br/><br/>We ordered<br/><br/>1) Tonkotsu White $13.25 - pork and chicken broth, pork chasu, greens, half an egg<br/><br/>My husband said his bowl was rich..... until he had some of mine (the tonkotsu black)<br/><br/>2) Tonkotsu Black $13.95 - pork broth, pork chasu, greens, egg, garlic, spicy sauce<br/><br/>This bowl is super rich and full of garlic flavor which I personally loved. It's like melted butter coating your throat as you drink the soup. <br/><br/>Ramen bowl portions were standard and comparable to other ramen restaurants in the city. <br/><br/>3) Jinya Bun $4.50 - steamed bun stuffed with pork chasu, greens and sauce<br/><br/>While it was delicious, I thought it was pricey for one bun. <br/><br/>4) Curry Rice & Salad (combo side to a ramen bowl) $5.95<br/><br/>Would not recommending getting a combo and it was not worth the price at all.  It's literally curry sauce over a small bowl of white rice and a small bowl of salad.<br/><br/>It's great that you can choose what type of noodle you would like to eat (thin or thick or even spinach noodles).  There's also an option for extra noodles if you have left over soup.  If you wanted to customize your ramen by adding toppings (ranging from $1 to $2 for extra vegetables such as green onion, tofu, seaweed, corn or even brussel sprouts and $2.50 - $3 for extra meat), your bowl could easily cost more than $20 which is a bit steep for a bowl of noodles. <br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>

Vacation and food are almost synonymous in our family. It isn’t truly a vacation unless we’re in local areas trying specialize dishes and unique cuisines of that location. On our most recent trip as we were looking for a place to eat we ran in to a couple different Jinya restaurants! They reminded me of our visit to their newest location in Calgary. We were told that they had locations all over the world but who would have thought that we would run in to them on our trip! We were lucky enough to try out their ramen bowls amongst other goodies before we left and here’s some of our highlights.

I went here twice, both times i was fortunate enough to barely missing the crazy line up.  I had the spicy chicken ramen the first time, and i was really disappointed.   Being the trendy place in Calgary, i ended back here a few days later and tried another bowl, and it was quite good (I forgot which one).  Portions are small, and the prices are a little bit on the higher side.

worst service I've ever experienced at a restaurant. The place was Not busy and the server took 20 minutes just to greet us at the table. At which point we ordered our soup and some tea (@$2/per cup). Then the soups came out but the tea still had not. I then told the server that because we are drinking the soup now that we won't be needing the tea and to take it off the bill. He refused and said he cannot do that. " once the order is in I cannot change it"-server . Usually I expect a drink to come out before a meal so I can enjoy it before the food and I know that if food is in prep a customer cannot remove that from the bill. But tea?? Seriously? After that he brought the bill and lingered around until we basically told him we are going to relax for a bit. when we want to order items he's no where to be seen for 20 min. But when he brings the bill unannounced we can't get rid of him. Good soup though. Point is. If tea has not reached my table, I'm within my rights to take it off the bill.<br/>I originally rated 1 star. But the food is good so that's worth half the scale.

The atmosphere is really cool, I think it's a pretty cool place to hang out with few friends. I don't know if it's because they just opened but service was pretty horrible. The staff was friendly and all but I've noticed some things that they need to improve on. It took us ages to get our waters (which we had to ask) and took us a long long time for them to take our order. Someone mopping in between chairs and tables while people were still eating? That was a bit random lol I totally understand it was pretty busy when we went there. But what threw me off a bit was when a server was taking someone's order, while taking a payment from the next table, while taking people at the front. All at the same time! It just looked a bit unprofessional and I could tell the customers were annoyed. Ramen was okay. I ordered the spicy tonkatsu? ramen. Soup base was bit bland for me and there wasn't much in there (not much vegetables, etc) for what we were paying for. I may possibly give it one more shot but it's definitely not the first place I would go to if I was craving ramen.

Jinya is new opened ramen place, I liked their noodle and stock so much, it's really authentic!<br/><br/>Pro:ramen<br/>Con: amount of soup, kaedama is so slow!<br/><br/>I visited for lunch. There was a long line up and we waited for 30 min ish and we got in. It was within a week after they first opened and it was very busy, therefore operation seemed little bit in panic! <br/><br/>We ordered black ramen and spicy miso ramen. They were sold out of their signature jinya ramen so we did not have much choice. <br/><br/>For side, they were sold out of some stuff as well, we got dumplings and tacos. <br/><br/>For the ramen, each ramen was served with different noodle, I think depends on which soup, they change the noodle. Which was very considering and I loved their thick and wavy noodle for spicy miso ramen! <br/><br/>Broth was flavorful and had nice fattiness in it. One very disappointing part for me, as a japanese, is the temperature of soup. If the soup is fatty but not hot enough, you actually taste the fat in your mouth and it isn't exactly pleasing. Besides, the soup only get cooler after it's served. My ramen had a layer of fat by the time I finish eating. <br/><br/>My friend did not like the bowl they used. It did not come with much soup. However, they do "kaedama" which is additional noodle after you finish your noodle. Basically you are supposed to NOT finish your soup and add another ball of noodle and enjoy the second round. But their soup isn't big enough for second round. Also like I said the soup is very much cooled down at the end. Moreover, our kaedama noodle tool nearly 15min to come. After 15 min I started to feel like I'm done eating and I don't wanna put anymore noodle in this cold greasy soup....:0 <br/><br/>I think it'd be better if they serve more soup from begging for kaedama. Besides our noodle was chopped up into short pieces(I don't know why ) so it was a little disappointing. <br/><br/>About side dishes, the taco was very interesting. The taco shell was wanton wrapper, it was kinda unique and very crunchy!<br/><br/>Dumpling was ok. It is frozen pre made one but they probably did not cook right, the edge was uncooked and dried out. <br/><br/>I heard their Chinese buns are really tasty, I have to try next time!<br/><br/>Overall, I loved their noodle and soup! It is so good and I'll definitely come back to try another one!!

I was pumped when I found out Jinya was opening up in Calgary. To date, the best bowl of ramen I ever ate was at Jinya in Kerrisdale, Vancouver. Asian Persuasion and What’s Up Hamsup and I arrived ten minutes to 11:00 a.m. The restaurant opens at 11:00 a.m., so we had to wait outside until it officially opened.

Quite crowded; didn't have to wait to get a seat but only because we got there before it even opened. And even then, there was a crowd already waiting outside. Portions are quite standard compared to most ramen places in Calgary, and so are the prices. Nothing too special but still nice to have more options for ramen in the city.

Great food and atmosphere. However, wait was long and no waiting area. They don't do resos either, but wait was worth it for this particular Friday evening, as it wasn't too cold outside.<br/><br/>Recommend the gyoza and the jinya bun.<br/><br/>

The broth is rich and flavourful. I was hoping "thin" ramen was actually thinner then normal (they have options for thick ramen which wasn't a big difference). The JINYA Bun was absolutely amazing. The steamed bun was super soft and that pork belly was divine. Service was alright, it's a bit crammed in there but I guess authentic ramen shops in Japan are the same too? Lol
