My new favorite is the Date Squares, I stop by once or twice a week on my way home to grab one for dessert
I enjoy the food here and the coffee with friends in a morning meeting or just a visit. I often stop and buy a dessert on the way home in the evening. The Date square and apple pie are fantastic, very old school.
The cheesecake is good, but a bit heavy. . . again very old school. If you can find a spot on the patio its great people watching and they do have the capucino down pat. Very good.
I often stop by on my to work to grab a pastry for the office.
Nothing special. We had London fog and two deserts. London fog has vanilla flavor, I think it has sugar already. Deserts are ok. Outside patio was nice for people watching haha.
Purple Perk delivers decent diner food for a reasonable price. Got the Voodoo Burger which came with a lightly toasted bun, piles of melted Swiss cheese, blue cheese, and bacon. If there had been a little more blue cheese this burger would have kicked ass. Fries were great. I dig the tradeoff of a little self service for reasonable prices.
I love a neighbourhood coffee shop with a little character and sass! This place has great coffee (best soy Americano misto), plenty of interior seating, and a cute outdoor patio. Any of the sandwiches I've tried have been really good, and I love anywhere that has hot sauce readily accessible. The accompanying house chips are tasty too!
Only lost a point because although the bathroom seemed quite clean, there was a pretty strong pee smell.
I've visited Purple Perk twice so far. First time I got the pot stickers and the second time I got the Benny with mushrooms. The potstickers and the sauce that came with it was great. The Benny had too much sour cream but aside from that it was great. Service could have been better and it is very difficult to have a conversation in there as the noise level is too very high. Aside from that everything else was fine and I've heard their cakes are great. Maybe they could start selling fresh squeezed orange juice instead of selling Simply Juice.
First visit: Jan 2017
Second Visit: June 2017
This is a great coffee shop along 4th. As you can see in the pictures, their desserts are enormous, and delicious! They make some pretty good coffee too. We've been a few times and are bound to go again.
Popular cafe in mission area with huge sized pastries!
Pro: decent price, big size pastries
Con: food, not enough place to sit
I have visited this cafe more than a few times and I love it here!
The best part about me is their pastries. It's all HUGE! Especially their cake is all pretty huge, it entertains my eyes! The taste of those pastries are pretty average, if you'd like actually decent pastries, there is great pastry shop a block away so I recommend you to go there instead lol. I think their florentines are decent. It's really thick so maybe not traditional style but it goes ok with coffee.
Their coffee is reasonable price and latte menu is a lot to chose from. Tea leaves they have boxes out for you to pick, it's very casual and easy style, I think.
The atmosphere of this cafe, it's very casual, very relaxing, surrounded by some art on the wall. I feel like always 1/3 of people are facing laptop and working on something. I do like that atmosphere a lot, but I see there is always someone waiting for seats. It's either they do not have enough seats or those PC working people dominate the big table and stay for long time. I do not mind but I feel bad for those people who cannot be seated so I usually ended up rushing(and cannot finish the cake!).
I like their espresso, it is very deep and bold. Sometimes I do not like acid in my espresso, I liked the one in here.
Overall, I definitely recommend you to go!
This a neat place on the 4th street strip, its an interesting menu, I enjoyed the atmosphere and the menu choices were good, the place was full and everyone seemed to be in good spirits for a Saturday morning, the counter persons were very informative , the food was good, great place to go on a weekend to help nurse the hang over.
Fantastic coffee and baking. The espresso brownies are to die for, as they are extremely sweet and moist. I would definitely recommend bringing a friend to help you eat the treats though, as they can be overwhelmingly sweet.
Overall a very cute cafe, would highly recommend.
Decent cafe food here, and their cakes are so tall! Definitely a great value if you want their cakes. The coffee and their drinks here are of a good standard while the service isn't always consistent. With warmer weather coming, the patio is a great way to enjoy a cup of london fog and try their sandwiches.
I've have to say one of the best places in yyc to enjoy a nice up of coffee. Service is amazing and I find the price great as well. I've been very tempted to try their sweets as well.
Great place to sit on the patio in the summer! !!
Purple Perk is my go-to late night coffee shop. The location is convenient and the pastries are good and well priced. The service is inconsistent but not a sticking point. Their London Fogs are delicious and the brand of tea they serve is my favourite. It's also a good place to grab breakfast or lunch. I recommend the breakfast sandwich and their Chicken Perk. Overall, above average food in a great location.
One of my favorite cafes in Calgary. Love the desserts here, try their carrot cake and cheesecake - they're huge and so good! Usually quite busy. You can even sit out in summer, they've got a few tables & chairs.
Unexpected surprise in Mission. Awesome location and great for a Sunday brunch, coffee date catching up with a friend, work lunch or meeting, stay in or take out, first date spot (lots of great people watching)...pretty much any occasion. Yummy eats for light snack to food coma and you can't forget about dessert! Give a try, let me know of what you think!@purpleperk
I really like the perk. Love the food here and the prices are top notch. Not a fan of the coffee, so I usually go to Phil and Sebastian's for a coffee but eat here. Great wifi and good meeting spot.
Great little spot. Good coffee, friendly staff and they have great hash browns! Try the Cup of Coffee breakfast, good variety of toast and tasty sauce on the hash browns.
I love this place......!!!. Just finished a coffee and a piece of the best carrot cake in the world !!! Been coming here for 5 years for the sweets and the caffeine......I drive half way across the city when the craving hits. They apparently serve some pretty good looking hot meals as well, but I just can't get past the carrot cake..........LOL !!!

There are times when I visit some place so often that I forget to blog about them. I must subconsciously not want to share one of my favorite spots in town. Then again Purple Perk is no hidden secret. Not only is it a great place to stop by for some coffee and people watch, I find that I’ve gotten some of my best work done there when concentration was waning at home.
Chicken Perk = Happy Times. I love the staff at the Purple Perk, already friendly and helpful, and the Chicken Perk is one of the top sandwiches to be created in the city of Calgary to date. It comes with a delicious side of salty chips and it toasted to perfection. Great job ladies and gents!
Get their latte!. I didn't end up ordering any food at the Purple Perk, but I did enjoy the latte that I had! Make sure to order it extra hot. The atmosphere was really casual, which I liked. I'll definitely go back to this coffee house.
Helpful Staff. My wife, 3-month old son, a friend and I met at the Purple Perk for coffee on Friday afternoon. In terms of food we only had teas, a hot chocolate (nothing to write home about, just Nesquik or something like that) and a espresso brownie. The brownie was good (very good, my wife says). What made me write this review, however, was the service.
When I had to change my son's diaper, I asked one of the staff members, Savanna, to point me to the bathrooms. She told me that NONE of them had a changing table and that she'll raise that to her manager. She tried to see if the office had space for me to change the baby but her colleague had her bike inside the office blocking the way. After some back and forth, we ended up moving her colleague's bike and I was able to change the diaper in the office.
I'd like to thank Savanna for her help and ask Purple Perk's management to have a change table in each of the bathrooms.
Great Spot. I am a frequent patron of the purple perk. The quality of the food and drinks are consistent and the atmosphere is great; comfortable seating and stimulating view of forth street. I especially like how the owner uses their walls to sell local artists pieces, really adds to the place!
Perk could perk up. The food here is really good. The staff could be much more pleasant. Sometimes it feels like they don't like their jobs and serving customers is a pain. It's too bad. This place has lots of potential.
When Purple Perk is on its A-game it is a fantastic cafe. Only problem is their consistency can be all over the map. Hope they fix this one day.
Was a lil bit worried about after reading some reviews here but went regardless. Didnt have any bad experiences and my lemon tart/London fog were delicious.
Good Coffee Spot. Overall, the Purple Perk is a great place to grab a good cup of coffee. Their meals are pretty tasty, though I picked up a lemon square today and I'm not sure if they know what a lemon square is....it was all crust and I could barely taste any lemon in it. I didn't think it was worth the priced that I paid for.
Also, peeps who work there, it wouldn't hurt you to smile a little bit and be more attentive to your customers. I used to work at coffee shops while in Uni and sure it's monotonous sometimes, but you don't need to show it.
Had brunch on a Saturday afternoon - pretty steady business flow, took about 15 min for basic breakfast but such a relaxed environment when you're not in a rush and in a weekend off like I was to just read the paper and some news while having some delicious organic coffee. One of my favorite breakfasts so far in Calgary! They have a variety of options, plus their hashbrowns are awesome! Roasted potatoes tossed a bit in a BBQ sauce - I feel like hashbrowns make a huge difference how they're prepared in breakfast dishes and these are the best Ive had so far! Looking forward to going back not only for lunch, but to try their lunch and dinner :)
Must go for the carrot cake. One of our fav coffee places in town. A good coffee and decent food cafe is hard to come by amidst all the franchise coffee shops with dried out pastries from the same bakery.
Love the cornbeef hash for breakfast (though I can only ever eat 1/2 of it-so rich) and the fresh made potato chips served with sandwiches.
If you haven't been, skip the rest of the pastries/cakes and go straight for the carrot cake. Moist and creamy frosting- an indulgent treat to share with a friend.

Casual at its Finest. Wow. I can't believe how impressed with this little coffee shop I was. Its the perfect place for a casual lunch. The food all looks amazing, and there's such a large selection of fresh items to choose from. They've got daily specials, plus their regular sandwiches, hot meals, unique salads, and more! Their street side patio offers a great place to sit and enjoy whatever you have. Inside is great too. I had their tuna artichoke sandwich, which came toasted, and it was delicious. I loved their vietnamese ice coffee too. This place is great to just get together with a friend for excellent food, without the high prices, and restaurant atmosphere. Perfect casual fare at anytime of the day.
A nice place to relax. I have been to the Purple Perk numerous times. Recently, I tried the Beef Thai Wrap, it was good and not too spicy (even though I love heat). I indulged this time and also tried their mile high carrot cake - doesn't get better than a huge piece of moist carrot cake with an equal amount of cream cheese. I am typically a latte or americano girl, but tried the mocachino today without the whip cream - must say it was outstanding. Not too sweat and not bitter.

Loved it!!. Great wraps, London Fog, deserts and a place to people watch on 4th... was super!
At a steal of a deal for seven bucks, the chicken pot pie was piping hot and damn tasty. Carrots and potatoes, chunks of chicken and a pleasant hint of pepper made for a filling meal that tasted just like mom used to make (pretty sure my mom never made chicken pot pie but I’m sure yours did and I’m sure it was awesome!).
A great place to catch up on work, reading, studying and friends… filled with delicious eats and drinks! Don’t pass it up!
Overall, Purple Perk is an excellent neighbourhood coffee place and great for a quick bite and some people watching. If you don't reside in Mission, come and check it out!
Good little coffee shop. Staff was friendly and it has a good vibe. Lots of seating inside, and a patio is built into the street during the summer.
I got a bagel and a chocolate frape, the bagel was super thin and small for $4. The frape was delicious.
Purple Perk has always been a great place to grab a coffee or a bite. Lots of options for a hot breakfast/lunch and a wide selection of baked goods.
It's a great place to have a solo coffee or meet with friends. If you're looking to have your coffee to stay, just be aware that it's a very popular spot and seating can be tight!
The coffee is great, and they have extensive options for syrups as well, including many that are sugar free. Today I had an americano misto and it was excellent, a great espresso flavour nicely balanced with a perfect amount of steamed milk.
I tried their "everything but the kitchen sink" muffin for the first time as well, but found it a bit underwhelming. While it was nice and moist with a lovely coconut topping, the batter was very plain and overwhelmed the muffin- it felt a bit light on the add-ins.
Ordered some lunch and it was amazing! Will certainly do so again. Very fresh and tasted tremendous . 👍🏻
Great vibe and friendly staff. Lots of selections for food and baked goods with reasonable price.
Great vibe, good food, and all around pretty great little spot. The lunch meals are worth the price but $16 for two coffees and two bagels? Maybe a little steep. Because of the nice atmosphere you don’t really realize it’s actually pricer than Starbucks.
