Review Pho Vietnamese Village - Calgary

Trace
Woo, I am the 200th review. This viet restaurant has THE BEST beef broth that I’ve tasted in Calgary, tender meat, and the staff has great light banter and service. I would definitely recommend, and would come back! To add: Their spring rolls and salad rolls are top tier as well!

Been coming here since I moved to Calgary. The sate is to die for. This amazingly clean and well run restaurant is totally family owned so you know you’re getting real authentic Vietnamese food.

This is a great place for both Pho and Vermicelli in the city. I'm pretty fussy and we pretty much only go to this place and one other to get our Vietnamese fix. Everytime we have been the flavour has been really good, no need to add extra sauces etc. Family run, kept really clean and the service is quick and friendly, and then they leave you to enjoy your meal. Parking right in front and they have high chairs if you ask. Highly recommend.

My go to for beef pho for $10 and a large. The flavouring, quality and quantity works well to justify this is a place worth going to. The service here - love the service - friendly , welcoming, and quick to provide. The place is very clean and food is also clean (not oily, greasy or fatty). Really enjoy this hole in the wall spot and would recommend you to visit it as well. I also don't get any of that aftertaste or thirst of water after eating here. Am definitely going to need to try to dine in when the whole covid times is over with/regulations lift.

Owner was super nice and friendly. There was 5 of us and we ordered 9 things. The server remembered every detail of our orders without writing it down. I was impressed.

Same as before when they were at NE close to Deerfoot with the same boss, same family... Satay soup brings back memory of the old days. Hope they will do well again after the stupid covid... Strongly recommend.

Never knew "Beef wrapped in bettle leaf" would be something I am going to talk about. It's absolutely delicious and now in my favorite list!! The chicken in the vermicelli is very tender, compared to other pho places. Definitely one of the most underrated pho places in Calgary. Can't wait to go back here again.

We have visited numerous Vietnamese Pho eateries, and were extremely impressed by the over-all dining experience at the Vietnamese Village. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Service was attentive. The food was outstanding; fresh, flavourful and the spices were well balanced. The Vietnamese Village is definitely one of the top "pho" eateries in Calgary. Highly recommended.

Thanks for being my second family - the food and the service was excellent for my 50th. I couldn't think of a better place to hold it! After 12 years of patronage it was a given! :)

Absolutely love Pho Vietnamese Village. Their beef sate pho is amazing. Quail is fantastic. And their Thai milk tea is the best! Highly recommend.

Had the bun thit nuong cha gio. It tasted a little sloppy, soggy and bland. It might not be their best dish I'll ask for their specialty next time. The fish sauce was a little too sweet too!

Hmm "beef" sate soup, was in fact pork sate soup (fyi to all the other reviewers below with the white, lifeless meat) Broth lacked color and flavour, and it did taste like a pre-done broth or mix. I did find it a touch on the sweet side as another reviewer did. Will not come back here for the sate soup again.

The Pho Sate looks and smells very good. The broth has a rich spicy peanut flavour; however it is very oily! Such a shame as this soup has great potential. They even had a generous amount of meat in it. The service is fast and the restaurant itself is clean. Not sure if I'll be back or not though for their oily broth. 😕

The worse broth I've had. All their food is way too sweet. We had one pho and one rice dish and they were both way too sweet. The broth for their pho is definitely not made with bone. I will never return to this restaurant again. We left with unfilled stomachs because we couldn't finish the overly sweet food and ordered pizza next door at Papa Johns.

As previous reviewers stated the beef in my satay soup was white, the soup was generally a white color. Not the best I've had, not very spicy. The rice noodle bowl with beef and spring rolls was very good!

Best satay soup in Calgary. I used to go to this restaurant when it was over by Deerfoot mall but it closed there. It re-opened in the Westwinds area and it's as good as ever. The food they offer is amongst the best family run Vietnamese restaurants I have ever been to. I live in Airdrie and we drive all the way to Westwinds now just for our weekly Vietnamese fix. The restaurant itself is really nice - I think it used to be the Original Joe's location. The staff is all family and they are very friendly and accommodating, you can tell they take pride in their restaurant. I would highly recommend.

Disgusting take out. This place recently opened in my area so we got take-out. Disgusting vegetables that looked like they were from a frozen package (carrots had the crinkle lines) were suspended in some sort of corn starch water emulsion to keep hot for the crispy noodles which made them taste horrible. They had really sub-par meat and two out of four of our meals were overall gross. One of the people I was eating with did enjoy the salad rolls, however, they came with assembly required, the rice paper was in a package and was not even soaked. I do NOT recommend getting take out here, maybe their in-restaurant service is better.

Satay beef noodle soup horriable!!. Horriable!! I just orded the satay noodle soup for take out, the " beef" didnt even look like beef! It was colorless white! Not pink like rare meat should be! The broth was all grainy like. Worst soup ever! Never will I go there again.

Best Satay Soup in the World. Peanutty, spicy and simply delicious.I have.never had better satay soup even in Vietnam
Nicole
I went to their new location last night, and was unimpressed. The service was awful. We weren't asked if we wanted anything to drink, and no one came by to check how the food was. The restaurant was empty, and all the employees were standing behind the counter chatting. The food was mediocre, I won't be going back.

I love this place and was very sad to hear it was closed... but it is not! They moved and official opening is Friday August 15 2014. The phone number is the same, and the new location is: 3690 Westwind drive NE

Except now they are closed :(. We loved this place - the service was always good and they knew what we liked. Their spicy Pho was excellent. They closed at the end of May 2014 and are moving to a new location for September.

Would not come back. Ordere.... Would not come back.
Ordered a warm water with lemon and the guy gave me a weird look and walked away. He came back with hot water and a slice of lime in it.
The satay here is not bad, but regular soup tastes bland and weird. Flank had weird color and tasted old.

Would not recommend this place. Drive up 64th 3 mins to pho thanh for better quality pho.

Great soup. This is my go to place for great Vietnamese soup. Complimentary herb tea, and amazing soup. Service is great, and its never overly busy. Portion size is huge, and i never seem to be able to finish my bowl. Spicey goodness all around.

Dirty and Gross. Yuck! This place is dirt-y. It is really run down and still has the signs from the Italian place that was there before. I should have turned around at the door, but...I went in anyway and had one of the few veggie options, a sweet and sour pho that had nothing in it but celery and sprouts. It was gross. Really gross. No other veggies, no tofu, and gross broth. The waiter was also about 16 years old and very rude. Yuck. Don't eat here!

Terrible service. Went to this restaurant because everything else was closed. Shorty speaking - good food, awful service. The Vietnamese man who works there just throws everything at your table as if you're a dog, not even looking at you when saying "good-bye". I notice this type of behavior fairly often in Asian restaurants. Never coming back.

Nice!!!!!!. Food here taste fresh & was delicious will be returning here soon craving it again

Good Food. Came here yesterday for lunch. I work nearby so it's convenient. The food was good; I had the beef satay noodle soup which was full of flavour. They also give you a pot of jasmine tea for free before your meal arrives. My only complaint was the service. The two male servers that were serving us I found to be kinda rude, especially when I had to ask for a glass of water. I would return because its walking distance from my work, but it did not wow me enough to drive across Calgary to find. I've had better pho at a cheaper price elsewhere.

Best sauté beef soup in the city , been going 4 to 5 times a month for a year and will continue , highly recommended

Love this place, the beef sate soup is the easily best I've had in calgary. Actually everything here is really good

Must come back for the quail!!. I didn't even know this restaurant existed - only saw it because I was looking for something else around that area. Since hubby and I haven't had lunch we decided to give them a try. It was close to 2:00pm but there was still a couple of tables, and a few more diners arrived after we sat down.

I wasn't interested in their pho. I remember having it a long time ago at their Chinatown location and their soup was always lukewarm instead of boiling hot. However they had quail! Ok... must try. Hubby ordered the grilled pork, shrimp and spring roll vermicelli with a jackfruit slush. I got the pork chop, quail and shredded pork on rice.

The jackfruit slush came first. It was very sweet! I'm not sure what else was blended into it but it just tasted like ice to me. We had to wait a short while for our dishes since it's not fast like pho. My dish was certainly worth the wait! The pork chop and shredded pork was pretty standard, but the quail was charbroiled perfectly with a sweet honey glaze. Hubby was jealous and I offered him a quarter of my quail - he thought it was really good too. I didn't try his vermicelli but he said it was decent.

I would say our food was pretty good. Pricing seems average to a bit high depending on what the item is. Service was definitely a bit lacking but not unfriendly. I know I will definitely be back to eat their quail again!

Go for the Food. The food is awesome, Satay soup extra spicy is the best in Calgary (at least where I have been). I highly recommend this place
Noodle Lover
Best sate noodle soup. I love this place and have been coming here for YEARS the consistency of quality is amazing. the service from the owner is amazing... and everyone is getting much more hospitable.
i could eat here everyday and die a happy lady. my favorite is the sate noodle soup, so creamy and filling!
Jyoti Purba Mua
BEST BUN EVER. I come here likes 4 times a month
#36 is the best !!!

Simply amazing is all I can say about this place, I've been coming here for years and the food has yet to disappoint me. The spring rolls are hands down the best I've ever had and the satay beef pho is the closest you will find to the real deal in our city. Service is up and down but its more then worth the potential wait for the quality and quantity of the meal.

No service bad food. Worst dinning experience I have had in 3 years in Calgary.
No service, had to enage a waiter to take our business lunch order, food took long to arrive, starter never arrived, no follow up on how food tasted, no offer of drinks. What really winded my up is the owner just loaded the bill with 15% tip. Tip should be descrecionary, I was a waiter for a long time and used to work for my 15%. Food was warm, poor comparison to the normally good fare you get in Calgary
Leem
Poor service, rude and loud. Soup and noodle came warm, the beef was way overcook, as it has been cooked for over 2 hrs - it was basically un-chewable. I ordered "raw beef and beef ball with noodles" and I got "overcookes beef and beef ball with noodles". The man yelled at me and said he does not cook the beef raw. Never going back.
Eat_Q_Eat
Pho came out warm, not hot. Taste was mediocre. Service was not good as server was rude and abrupt. Would not go out of my way to eat here.
JR
Good sized portions, horrible service. As a student on loans, the hearty-sized portions, flavourful options and cheap prices are what drew me to this northeast dive. Now that I'm finally receiving a regular paycheque, I can afford to avoid having to endure the lack of service, pack-you-own take-out, and non-existant beverage refills that you're guaranteed to experience at this tacky hole-in-a-wall.
Tunit
Generously Portioned Vietnamese. Satisfying portions is what makes Northview Vietnamese stand out among its competitors. Loads of filling and noodles in its soups, you're sure to leave full in under $10.

Even their appetizers are nicely portioned - the spring rolls came in a set of five.

The soups were pretty decent as well. The seafood satay actually had a decent broth that was spicy and nutty.

Unfortunately, the restaurant is somewhat hidden in the industrial area north of Deerfoot Mall, so you'll have to know where you're going in order to get there. But once there you'll find it spacious (enough for large groups) with pleasant service.

My fave for Beef Satay. My husband and I have been coming here since it opened. It's our favourite Vietnamese restaurant for spicy beef satay pho. I crave their soup and probably have it a few times a month. Love it!
Lovefood
Great food!. Love the satay soup, there's a server there (young with glasses or one blue eye when wearing contacts - son of the owner) who isn't very friendly. but everyone else is great. love the food.

Nothing too special about the take out food, but i did hear that the restaurant itself is quite nice. It's a little hidden in an industrial area of Calgary, so get out your GPS and go find it if you would like to give it a chance. I'd be a returning customer if it wasn't for the one strand of hair I found in my take-out box, For me, I think the take out experience was enough.
