Review Mekong Restaurant - Calgary

Went in to order take out, food was delicious & reheated well. Duck and bamboo soup had nice big pieces of duck - best version of this dish I’ve had in Calgary so far. Portions were generous and prices were reasonable. Staff were friendly and kitchen was quick to put our order together. Would order from here again! Only thing is to make sure you know how to get into the plaza, it’s easy to overshoot the driveway, and hard to turn around and get back to it.

Mekong is the best Vietnamese food in the province. Nothing else compares! The food is amazing! The owner always remembers your order no matter how long it’s has been. He is always happy to serve you and genuinely asks how you are. Best place out there! 10/10.

Unassuming hole in the wall but a hidden gem. Great food with a lot of delicious authentic dishes. It’s no wonder this place is rated so highly. Definitely worth a visit, especially for some of the more unique viet dishes you normally don’t see on viet restaurant menus. Staff are also very nice

Drove halfway across the city to eat here and it was well worth it. Service was great and the amount you pay and the amount and quality of food you get is unmatched! Highly recommend their Vietnamese crepe 👌🏻 Support this local gem!

Mekong is hands down my favourite place in the city for authentic Vietnamese food. The owners of this place are clearly passionate about what they do, and I have never had a bad experience here, making it worth the long drive across the city every time. The restaurant interior isn’t very large, and the staff is very small, so it’s understandable that wait times can be a little longer than what’s typical, but I promise you that in exchange for the wait, you get delicious food everytime. I would highly recommend their beef and chicken pho, as well as my personal favourite, the special banh mi.

Clean place, great service, very hospitable environment here. While the food isn't going to blow you away, it's still very good, and you're going to find yourself coming back here more than once. Overall, very good for some casual dining, one of the best pho spots in Calgary!

Amazing food and great price for so much. Quality food, humble owner, and authentic Viet cuisine

Cheap eats done right. Broth is quite good (especially given the price) & spring rolls are thin, but meaty! Large menu & very friendly service. (4/5)

I have had the pleasure of frequenting this restaurant in the last 4 years. The food is always delicious and appealing and the prices are extremely reasonable, especially for the quality of the food. The owner treats us like royalty every time we go and I have recommended this restaurant to several people. I have tried many a Vietnamese restaurant in Calgary, and Mekong is by far, the best I've had, bar none.

We've only been to this restaurant recently. The pho is standard but we're completely sold on the spring rolls and friendly service/ atmosphere. The restaurant is also very clean.

My favourite:). I was introduced to Huu at Mekong more than 10 yrs ago. I love their saté beef pho and their salad rolls have the best dipping sauce in the city. I have brought friends, family, and colleagues here, never disappointed, always get 'my' table, and can walk in looking like crap or all done up, they always welcome me regardless. Will stay a loyal customer forever and ever, yummm!!!

You've gotta try it. Great food, fantastic prices (GST included). It's one of those places that you would return once you've tried it. It has been around "forever". It's a hidden gem. A lot of repeat customers. I'm Viet and I know enough to highly recommend this humble, little restaurant. One of our many favorite dishes consist of lime flavoured, cubed beef over lettuce & rice (name of this dish sounds like bo look luck).
Closed Sundays.

Nothing special. Tried their spring rolls didn't think much of them. Had the beef noodle soup special, beef broth was really mediocre and the soup was more warm than hot. The only thing good about the special was that their beef balls are very nice and tender. The service was pretty bad too

This is a fabulous restaurant. If you haven't tried Vietnamese food or if you like it but want to try something different this is THE place to go.

Best springrolls ever. After eating Mekong's springrolls (filled crunchy shrimp and pork, obviously homemade hand wrapped roll), I can no longer enjoy the rolls I use to enjoy at my favourite NW joints. Seriously - the best spring rolls.

My Fav Vietnamese place. Go here once a week. Cheap and yummy. Only issue is they need to improve and perfect their sate broth. Other than that everything I have had is great and they have wicked prices :)

Avoid. I have eaten at at least 20 Viet restaurants, and speaking as someone who is regularly indulged in Viet cuisine;

There are better Viet restaurants along this street within 10 minutes drive.
The quality of food is below par. The meat has a funky taste, egg slice is dry, the vegetables are not washed, the broth seems cheap (like MSG, it's not rich, there's no flavor or that aroma Pho should have).

We are regulars here and love it. Fresh, simple vietnamese fast and at very reasonable prices. Love bun bowl #47, and the beef sate soup. Beef lalot leaves are good too, as is the coffee. Highly recommend.

Amazing food and service. Wish they weren't so busy sometimes and wish they were open late. Need more tables.

Great. Have been a few times... recently went twice in the last two weeks.
Very friendly service
Very fresh food
Very good prices

Can't ask for more than that.

Pho Sate Beef. The inside is very well kept. Pretty clean and quite busy when I stopped in.

I ordered the sate beef which was decent but the broth was spiced up with chili oil. I prefer the sate broths that have the flavor cooked in rather than spiced up after the fact. If you don't prefer one way or the other than this won't be a deal breaker.

Prices here are very reasonable, large pho goes for $7.

Used to be good- especially the "la lot" beef but lately it seems like food is being reheated in a microwave and service can be surly.

Just try it today,it's the best vietnamese I ever have so far ( #2 &#47)

Went here for lunch today and has to be one of the better Vietnamese I've had. I tried the Curry Chicken, large portions and very good. You wouldn't know by looking from the outside, tucked away but worth a try.

Mekong Restaurant. 5 years ago we moved to Calgary from Medicine Hat. The kids and I had tried Vietnamese a couple of times in the Hat. On the very first day we were in Calgary, I suggsted Vietnamese. Fortunately we were just cresting the hill eastbound on 17th Ave from Deerfoot and turned into Mekong, the first Vienamese restaruant we saw. We have probably been back at leat 100 times. The food is fabulous, the service is both great and fast. We always start with salad rolls, (It's the only place I have ever found that gives 4 to an order) and my favorite is #49 (Stir fried beef) which I get with curry flavor EXTRA HOT. Me kids all have their favorites,(beef wrapped in Lalot Leaves is the favorite of 2) and the guys know us so well I am surprised they even bring us menus anymore. The soup is also great. Now for what I think is a remarkable story. About a year after we started going there, one night just as we were finishing dinner, the power went out during a thunderstorm. I didn't have enough cash to cover the bill (interac machines down) and offered to drive someplace to get money and return. I was told to "Not worry about it, and they would catch me next time" It is very obvious when you go there, that most of the customers are regulars, and that to me says it all

The portions are huge and the food is fantastic. Very good value. If I don't get my #50 Satay on a regular basis, I go nuts!

Great food for great prices. Although this place isn't really much to look at, the food sure makes up for it. When entering Mekong, you are greeted with a smile and sat immediately. Fresh Jasmine Tea is brought for you and all of your family and friends in moments. Then the real Vietnamese dining experience begins. Every time I visit this little dining gem, I always start with an order of salad rolls, a simple dish containing four rolls made with clear rice paper, with fresh cabbage, shrimp, and mint. The only adjective I can use for this dish is "fresh". It is truly a festival of simple ingredients inside your mouth. Next, I order some Vietnamese Lime soda for a beverage. This delicious, yet very sweet, beverage is always a freshly made treat. Next, I order my main course, #47. Consisting of rice noodles, a choice of beef or pork skewers, shrimp skewer, and freshly cut cucumber, carrot and peanut is truly a taste experience (especially when mixed with the fish sauce). One thing you can count on when coming to Mekong is that you will not be leaving hungry. Portion sizes are very large for the price. After all of this, my tab comes to a modest $20.

Mekong is possibly the best Vietnamese cuisine on 17th Avenue for the price. Unfortunately, this is somewhat a secret gem just waiting to be discovered. Whenever in the area, be sure to check out Mekong for true, fresh, tasty and authentic Vietnamese cuisine.

The spring rolls weren’t the generic type that I’m familiar with - these babies were made with love. I tasted crunchy shrimp and pork, and it was clear the spring roll was hand rolled.
