Review Via Cibo - Calgary

Y H (April)
Had lunch with a good friend there recently! Everything was great— food was great, coffee was great, service was great and the vibe was great! Staff was polite and friendly! They stopped by our table several times to make sure we had everything we needed. Location is good, lots of parking, many shops and restaurants nearby! Tiramisu was top notch! Loved it!

Excellent pasta for quick dine in experience. Love their sausage & broccolini linguine. So good. Their French fries is too notch, perfect amount of crispy and soft inside! Excellent store!

It was quite a delight! Great customer service experience with an authentic Italian feel... The food was nicely done and timely in its arrival as well. The dessert, sinful delight🥰☺️, just as I like it😂!

Placed an Uber order as we’ve loved stopping in for sandwiches before. We got two pizzas, a pasta, donuts and a side ceasar salad. Decent pizza, delicious pasta…. and completely rotten lettuce in the salad. Makes me sad because I really enjoyed the other things we ordered and felt sick to my stomach after opening the salad and seeing that they had this sort of nastiness in the kitchen. Called to let them know, they shouldn’t be sending this out, and they said they’d pass the information on to management, who never called me back. Disappointing.

Generally a big fan of the Chicken Parmigiana, but unfortunately what I had this time wasn't edible. After informing the server, they immediately prepared a new one and it was as good as typically. Great service.

went there for lunch today and the food was very good! as a couple we shared a spicy pasta and pizza, and that was definitely the way to go. the only negative was the dining room was DIRTY! -the tables, floors, windows and most noticeably the chairs need a serious scrubbing.

Ten out of ten, always amazing food, I've tried SO many items and I've never been disappointed! The service is great, quick enough to be "fast food" but always super fresh and hot! The carbonara and chicken Parm are definitely my two favorites!

Via Cibo is located in the deerfoot meadows which specializes in Italian fast food. They have a system where you pay first and the server brings your food to you. I tried their pollo parmigiana sandwich (breaded chicken breast with provolone). The sandwich was delicious as the chicken breast was nicely cooked, juicy and tender. I liked the provolone cheese and marina sauce as it worked well with the flavors. This also came with a small side of arugula. Prices vary from $10 to $20 but you can tell this place uses fresh ingredients. The staff was nice and they regularly checked on you. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try.

Very nice place to be and the food is fantastic kids loves to and crazy, fast service, free parking, low prizing, gooood time with friends, extremely clean.

The space inside is warm and modern with the nice flooring and the Edison bulbs. Ordered the Gorgonzola gnocchi and the prosciutto and arugula pizza. Husband liked both. I liked the gnocchi - the pizza was alright. Felt like it was missing something though. Coffee was not good and would not recommend.

We decided to try Via Cibo in Deerfoot Meadows for dinner last night. Not to be confused with Cibo on 17th, this place is "Italian street food" and is completely unrelated. The restaurant is nice and bright with lots of seating. I was a bit confused with the ordering process. I knew it was like Nando's where you order at the counter and pay and then they bring your food to you when it's ready, the part that confused me was that first you place your food order at the first kiosk and then you walk along the kitchen to the next kiosk where a cashier relays your order to you and you can add beverages and then pay. Not sure what the point of the first kiosk was though. <br/><br/>Anyways the menu included pasta, pizza, flatbread, paninis, salads and a few side dishes. It was pasta Tuesday so a few of the pastas were $8 instead of their usual $10 price tag so I decided to try the Alfredo pasta. It was ok for the price but I wouldn't order it again. It definitely wasn't a creamy Alfredo sauce, it was very buttery and dry. It just had the look of pasta that had been sitting out for a long time (though I'm sure that's not the case). It came with a small bun that was very good. My fiancé got the lasagna. It wasn't part of the pasta Tuesday promotion, it was written on a specials board so it may not be available everyday. It cost $16. The cheese was a bit tough and the flavour was a bit subdued. It wasn't bad at all it just wasn't outstanding. We both had Italian sodas to drink and though we liked the flavours, we both felt that the soda water was warm and not very fizzy and so the ice melted pretty quickly and they still never got really cold so that was a bit disappointing. <br/><br/>I don't think we'll be back to Via Cibo any time soon. It's not that it was terrible, but our meal cost just over $30 plus tip and for that price there are way better options out there.

This is one of those places where you order and pay at the front and they bring you your food after. However the pricing structure is more consistent with a table service restaurant. I'd have been more satisfied if I'd paid 30% less. ($39 for a pasta, two sides and a glass of wine.) <br/><br/>I ordered the carbonara. Drenched in butter. No concept of the proper preparation of the sauce and egg. On penne when I asked for linguini. 4/10 ($13)<br/><br/>The polpette (meat balls) were fairly decent. Albeit luke warm on arrival. Sauce was a little on the sweet side. ($7)<br/><br/>The mixed greens were VERY oily. One large piece of brocolini and about one leaf of collard greens. Fairly tasty but rather overpriced at $6. (A hint of lemon would do wonders here.)<br/><br/>$12 for a 9oz glass of wine that retails for under $12 is hard to swallow. Usually 100% markup is passable but this is basically fast food.<br/><br/>The room probably looked sharp when they opened but the furniture and finishes are looking pretty beaten up in a rather short time. The staff looks like they'd all rather be elsewhere. Won't be returning.<br/><br/>

I had always been curious about this place as I passed it when going to my favourite Walmart. I decided to go in the other day for a small meal. We ordered the Via Poutine and the mushroom soup. <br/><br/>It's the type of place where you order at the counter and they deliver it to your table. It reminds quite a bit of Famoso, another favourite of mine. The food arrived very quickly and was hot. The poutine was a great size and full of saucy porky goodness. I found it a bit too mild but then I added the chili oil and it became quite delicous! The soup was hot and creamy and pretty good as far as mushroom soup goes.<br/><br/>We are excited to go back and try the carbonara, pizza and gelato and update this review!

Had a chicken parm sandwich ( not sure of the proper name). You could barely see the piece of chicken it was so thin, and the breading was very greasy. All it tasted like was spaghetti sauce on a bun. For the price I would recommend going to the Italian market on Fairmont and southland to get a proper tasty sandwich for half the price.
Ryan Vankoughnett
Came here for lunch on Sunday first time trying thief restaurant the inside is nice and the staff friendly but ordered a Pollo penne which was suppose to be a chicken sandwich ended up with a un eatable pasta dishe was greesy and and had a bad after taste the pop was flat and the price ridiculous 16 dollars for a bowel of pasta with no meat would not recommend.

Very impressed! Really great service. The food was above average. We tried the caesar chicken salad. Delicious! Good size, good dressing and the chicken was cooked properly. The gnocchi was so yummy! The sauce was perfect! Would recommend this place and will be back.

LOVE the dine in experience as it is the perfect blend between a fastfood and restaurant. The decor is unique to me with some rare to find edison bulbs and a shiny pop machine that allows you to select your beverage.<br/><br/>The food is prepared for you as you can watch through the glass divider and the seperation of the beverage point of sale from the food point of sale is sheer genius. The gelato I havent tried but it is on my to do list.<br/><br/>Food is delicious and flavourful, giving the customer some authentic italian choices and the italian soda stands head and shoulders above the competitors. No free refills :(<br/><br/>Food is a bit pricy but what were you expecting? This aint your mom and pop pizza shop!
Sam Leung
This is not really a 'fastfood' place. Quite a bit fancier food. And accordingly pricier. Came for Monday dinner, not too busy. Always can find a good seat. Their patio is open, not much of a view, but nice to be outside . Had the bruschetta, poutine, proscuto flatbread, and ceasar with steak. Love the food, the steak add on worth $5 extra. The gelato is excellent. Bruschetta is fresh. Kids friendly place, they have a kids menu but its not displayed. The service is good, they will bring you your food, but it's not full service. You pay up front. Serve your own drinks. Overall really chill atmosphere. Causal dinning with a bit more upscale Italian food.

Would not recommend! Terrible place. Food was extremely overpriced. Ended up paying $33 for a Alfredo pasta with shrimp, 2 nestea drinks & a small brownie.<br/><br/>-Alfredo pasta $10<br/>-Additional shrimp in pasta $6 for 4-5 small pieces<br/>-2 Nestea drinks $3/ea<br/>-Small brownie $4<br/>Plus tip.<br/><br/>The shrimp was ridiculously overpriced and was not informed it was an extra $6 for 4 pieces!! Nestea cans for 3 each! Brownie the size of your palm and not tasteful. This place was just AWFUL.<br/><br/>The food overall was not satisfying. It was tasteless, luke warm and it was a terribly small portion for the price. The food for horrible, the price is baffling. I would never recommend nor attend this location ever again.<br/><br/>SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO A REAL RESTAURANT!!
Michael Buchanan
Nice quick lunch spot tried the ossobuco sandwich which is slow roasted veal with arugula, fontina cheese, caramelized onions with garlic aioli. It was good & priced pretty well.
Cathy Lin
We checked out the newly opened NW location the past weekend and fell in love with the food. Everything is made fresh in house and you can taste that in your food. We loved the pasta al ragu di ossobuco. It is a must try. The pollo balsamico piadina was also fabulous. Bare in mind that the portion is huge. The only disappointment was the pizza - which turned out to be a little soggy. Will definitely go back again to try the brunch menu!

We love via cibo. Every time we visit the food is very fresh and tasty. It is intended as Italian street food but It feels like you're in a nice restaurant without the extreme high prices. You place your order when you go in and find a table after you've paid, and your food is brought out to you. The service is friendly. I love their pastas and piadinas. Their fries are also delicious! The sandwiches all come with a side salad. It's definitely somewhere nice and quick to pop by if you're looking to get in, and get out. I wouldn't bother with the drive all the way down south just to visit though. They did open a new location up in Coventry Hills so well will give that a go next time we're in the area!

We always drove by via Cibo and wondered how it was compared to the Cibo downtown. Finally after an IKEA run, we decided to walk in around 8:15pm.<br/><br/>Upon walking in, you're greeted with a very modern seat-yourself setting. The open kitchen had 3 staff. Order, pay your meal, take your table # and find a seat. <br/><br/>The appetizer meatballs came in 3 but was extremely salty. Scraping off the sauce, it was better. The pasta dishes is served with your choice of pasta and is well portioned, served with a plain slice of toast. The toast would've been better if there was garlic or some butter. I chose linguine for the pasta al ragu' di ossobuco which was delicious. My BF had the penne with broccolini and sausage and he thought it was good. The egg drop soup was pleasantly flavoured, not salty and comforting for a cold night. <br/><br/>Overall, I would come back if I as in the vicinity as the service is fast and the friendly guys do come out and check on you. The brunch menu looks pretty appetizing as well!<br/><br/>P.s. They also have gelato!

Honestly one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever endured in my life. Came here during the lunch rush,<br/>and was immediately subjected to shrieks from a lady who was clearly in a power position and the "chef" who's jacket was absolutely filthy. I was greeted by a nice young man in the front, and he explained the menu quite eloquently, but then it went down hill once again. When my wife and I arrived at the second till, we were astounded by the lack of professionalism by the manager. She proceeded to yell out<br/>order in my face as she barked orders to the rest of the staff, while not doing much herself. Got a pop, was flat, but at this point I expected as much. Food was pretty overpriced, and there is no way in hell that a San Pellegrino should be 4 dollars. Food was decent I guess, but it was hard to enjoy the food when<br/>the we couldn't hear ourselves think over the ridiculous screaming from the manager and in the kitchen. Probably won't be back, as the couple people who actually seemed to know what they were doing were constantly being harassed, and I don't want to support a restaurant like that.

Nice place to have lunch if you're in the vicinity. Food comes out quick and everything I've tried there has been good. The pizzas are definitely worth the price, however, my friend ordered a panino and it didn't not look that great. It was just a small sandwich the price of my pizza. The pesto chicken pizza is delicious!!
Abanana68
used to be so much better. poor quality. <br/><br/>Pollo Parmigiana: chicken was cooked fine. but Alfredo was nothing more than cream with salt and pepper. that's truly not an Alfredo. add to that, dry, clumpy, stuck together pasta and you get a pretty unappetizing dish. <br/><br/>Via Poutine: had no ragu sauce whatsoever. just dry, salty meat plopped on top of fries. and a sprinkling of shredded cheese on top. a definite rip off for $9. <br/><br/>Tuscan Braised Beef: on polenta was ok, but really small quantities. 3 small pieces of beef on top of what seemed to be less than 1/2 a cup of polenta. polenta was good. beef was also dry. <br/><br/>spent $43 for this. don't think I'll come back unless they can get back to the quality they had when they first opened. told the waitress all this and all they said was "sorry it was all dry, have some gelato". really? no thanks.

Was here for lunch last Tuesday and had the best experience ever. Everything was<br/>perfect! Service, food, ambience all on point! (quite a trendy restaurant). My friend ordered spaghetti with meatballs and I got al pesto chicken pizza. The way it works is, you go to the front and place your order and pre pay before the meal. The meal is then served<br/>within 5-15 mins. Very very quick service for such a busy restaurant like this.  It was buzzing with people, smart business crowd as well as some families. I had a reservation made but you don’t require a reservation<br/>as you get seated quickly (there are lots of people coming in & out). I happened to casually talk to the owner – Tabrez(met him for the first time) who was greeting some customers and he was so kind to give complimentary tuscan fries & gelatos to my friend & I.  Great customer service! The owner cares and he makes sure you walk out happy.<br/><br/>Go here for great dining experience, you will not regret! This restaurant is definitely on my list of top restaurants in Calgary. Will visit again.

Got invited by a couple friend to celebrate with them and i ordered shrimp in fresh tomato sauce pasta and i love it. First time i have finished my whole bowl of pasta. The tomato sauce just right not overpowering and the shrimp are fresh and juicy but pasta a bit soft. Will come back for sure.

We ordered two pasta dishes (pesto pasta and ossobucco pasta) and one kids pasta (butter pasta). Very generous portions (enough for seconds and leftovers) The dishes could have had a little bit more flavor but overall we were very happy with the quality and will be back!

I had some catered lunch from this place for an athletic event. We had prociutto piadini (wrap) and caprese paninis with arugula salad. Everything came on time, which is pretty critical for catering but I don't see very often. The caprese paninis were so tasty and the bread was so soft that i had a double helping. The prociutto piadinas were packed with the meat so it was very nourishing but had more arugula in it so the combo with the salad was bitter.

Its a cool modern place. good menu, But the girl that took my order went on to continue to make the food.. with no gloves on and didn't wash her hands. She made other peoples food before mine then went and took other peoples orders then came back to continue to make food.. without washing her hands. That's very unsanitary . One of the younger guys making some other food did have gloves on, but all the sandwiches i saw were made by her with no gloves on and no hand washing in between.. pretty gross

happened to drive by this little gem on an errand run, and stopped by for lunch. as said in another review, it really is best to grab a seat first. you're able to ensure that you have a place to sit after you grab your order, and you're able to look at their menu if there isn't a queue in front of the counter.<br/><br/>it's a pick up and eat style of dining, so self seating and manually going up to the counter to order. they'll give you a number (red for dine in, black for take out) that you put on your table, and they carry your food out for you. drinks are ordered at the end of the counter, and where you pay for all of your meal.<br/><br/>service is very friendly -- straight from the front counter all the way to the waiter/esses. food comes out very quickly, tastes good, and the prices are decent enough. the food is also arranged quite nicely!

Rapido!<br/>Second visit for lunch July 3, 2015. We placed the order upon entry, toured the line, ordered drinks and paid. The food arrived within minutes of us having seated after payment at the till! The 'Pasta Promodoro' (penne $9) was a reasonable lunch time serving. The pasta was prepared to order, al dente and the sauce was flavourful.  The 'Pizza Magherita' ($12) arrived hot out of the oven, with ample tasty tomato sauce, melted sliced mozzarella and topped with fresh, bright green basil leaves. The dough was sufficiently thin. The pizza slices was huge (cut into 4). Deliscious! Shared a 'Cesar' salad ($9) which was slightly over dressed, but had delicious bacon. All in all, the food was very good and service most efficient. <br/>The price point is a little on the high side. Decor is modern. clean & chic. It can get very noisy.  <br/>I would return to try other menu items...and dessert!
Sharon
This place was a 2 in 1 deal. Delicious food + express order style.<br/>Beware this place can get busy and it is self seating, so i would recommend getting a table first then ordering. You line up and choose between pasta, salads, sandwiches and pizzas. Place your order and get a number and pay. <br/>I ordered a pasta dish and it came out pretty fast. <br/>Really tasty :) My friend got a salad and the other a pizza and they both enjoyed it very much.<br/><br/>I definitely will be going back

7/10. Cool concept but over priced. I was looking forward to the opening, and was one of the restaurant's first customer. My friend and I ordered a veal pasta and the Prosciutto wrap, the pasta was slightly more salty for my taste and the portion was "lunch" sized, but the wrap was fantastic. I thought it was a bit over priced, for 2 entries and one drink, it costed around 30$. We have gone back another time since then, and again thought it was over priced for what we received.

Love IT. I absolutely love this place. The food is excellent and priced reasonably. It is very authentic just like the food I ate in Italy. Also, great and fast service.

Excellent market style Italian food! I have been here a lot and have always had a good meal! Pasta is amazing and the prices cannot be beat! I love the ordering system! More restaurants should be like this! Definitely check this place out!

Fast and awesome food. I love the atomosphere here. It is very modern and clean. The food comes out about 5-10 minutes after you order and pay. The Pomodoro Pasta with Meatballs are awesome, but they would be even better with spaghetti pasta but they only offer penne and linguine. The Pollo al Pesto Pizza and the Ceasar Salad is good. They have nice cold beer and they have a really cool pop dispenser. I would definitely go back here and try other things on their menu and their gelatos.
John
Poor set up. From start to finish this place has issues.<br/>Staff were pretentious/unhelpful<br/>pasta came with a crouton sized piece of bread and a small portion for the price<br/>No condiments at table.<br/>Seating is in each others faces.

Best Ceasar Salad EVER!. I had the Steak All' Italiana with side Ceasar Salad, AMAZING! I will definetely be back!

Really didn't like pasta and gelato. Probably won't go back

Very delicious food

Food was good. Was in a hurry, met a friend, shared a pizza, very thin crust which I love and the Ceasar Salad yum yum good... Will go back and try there Pasta etc.

Food not bad. It was almost like a cafeteria style type of ordering at first. We walked in, looked around and tried to figure out what to do next: wait to be seated, find a seat, order somewhere? We ordered a pizza & salad. It seemed they had a few specials as well. <br/>Salad was great- although tomatoes were soggy. Pizza thin crust was done just right. Toppings were okay- not too much or too little. Kind of cut strange- into bigger slices. Food was not bad.<br/>However, a bit over priced. They seem to have the famoso style of ordering at the till (except one has to pay upfront right away). There are 2 different tills for drinks/food and you can pay at either one...or if you end up at one with your food order...((stratches head)).<br/>I did not use the tip option as I did not consider it true full form wait service to tip from the entire experience.

I could have made a better flatbread sandwich at home and saved myself the $20 bill. I left feeling like I just ate at an overpriced pita pit.

First visit. Quite good. Thumbs up.. A buddy of mine recommended this place so we decided to meet there for lunch. Really quite impressive. Very clean. Got there around 12:30PM and the place was almost full. We ordered our meal at the counter and then sat down. Our salads arrived very quickly. We both chose the Cavolo and were very pleased. My buddy had the Caprese Sandwich while I settled on the Polpette (Meatballs). Bread was extremely fresh which to me makes a good sandwich even better. Both of us were pleased with our selections. Look forward to going there again.

"Looked good", but.... A couple of us dropped in on a whim to see if they might have gluten-free pasta for Celiacs, and YAY, they did. We ordered, and were just about to pay when one of the young guys in the 'kitchen' came over and we learned there are no gluten-free sauces for the gluten-free pasta. He brought the contents card to us, and we went through it - NO GF sauces. What is the point of having a GF pastas without...?? Kudos to the young man who was on the ball, or this would have been a very different review. Place looked great for lunch - could we get a sauce soon?

Pollo Balsamico Piadina - August 20th, 2014. Just had the chicken piadina today, the flavors were good but the star of the dish, the chicken, was rubbery and tough. My first time here, and frankly disappointed. First impressions are everything, I won't be going back. I can see why only 68% like it.
ZalmanKing
Came in at 9:35pm and was told upfront that "we are closing in 20 minutes so we have limited menu"....he stated several pizzas and pastas etc won't be available.<br/><br/>After the speech was completed, we asked if you can simply let us know "what is available?" And again same speech that pastas will take usual than normal and when asked same question he again gave full speech that as I said before it will take more than normal to have a pasta and rest of the things are unavailable.<br/><br/>Kudos for great service 25 minutes before the closing of street food place!!<br/><br/>Never returning to this utterly poorly managed place!

Great Italian - Fast and Tasty. Went with some co-workers and loved it. Food was really good and the vibe is great. We are going back next weeks again! Will also go these weekend with my boyfriend.

If you're in deerfoot meadows, Via Cibo is the place to check out. If you're not in deerfoot meadows, it's worth the drive. Went in with some coworkers and the impression as soon as you walk in is of a modern design style, authentic food and an energized vibe. When we went they were lined up, but I was amazed at how quickly our hot food came to us! The person taking our order walked us through their system, which we found intriguing and effective. You must try the osso bucco panino! Looking forward to trying more items on this menu. Well done, via cibo!

Really enjoyed the night out with the family. Good choices to keep everyone happy. Salted caramel gelato with espresso was delicious and the Italian donuts were a hit all around.
Facebook User
Really enjoyed it. The cafeteria style was a real positive for us with a younger child. Quick to get in, order, and sit down. The food did not take long to come out and we all enjoyed our food. Cavolo salad with steak was delicious and a great lower cal option. Service was adequate for the style of restaurant. Dinner for two plus a kid was $50.

My new favourite restaurant! I've been coming here since the opening and I have to say that the food and the professional service is by far one of the best that I have received in this city. Took my husband there and got him to try the steak al Italiano, he's now a believer in great Italian street food. Check this place out!
Jp
Too expensive for a fast food place. The food was very bland. Osso bucco ragout on penne was passable, but could have had much more flavour. The carbonara had no visible pancetta, and was very dry. By the end of the meal, it just clumped into a glutinous mass. Both dishes were served with a tiny dry piece of bread as the only garnish. Over $30.00! We won't be back.
Jamesbgood
Dont get it.. you pay high price for cafeteria type service? The chicken sandwich I got was descent but the prices in here ruined the whole experience. My gf had some sorta veggie flat bread which we thought was going to be like a pizza (like what other restaurants have) to her disappointment it was a wrap. We both tried it and both agreed it was gross. Be warned, if this is your first time do yourself a favor and look up the menu before going in because it is bloody confusing when youre standing at the cafeteria line. We felt rushed because there is a line of people behind us wanting to order. This concept is horrible and the price is too high. I will not return here.
Jordanb
DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!!!!!! I just went there for lunch and there is only one word that describes it accurately DISGUSTING. Not only did we spend $45 for lunch but the food was not even good. I ordered a Pizza and it was RAW DOUGH and all the toppings were sliding off and in general you could tell the pizza was undercooked. When I approached someone who worked there their response was "that is how it is supposed to be - mushy" "that is how we cook our pizza here" Although I was clearly unsatisfied, no one came to follow up for me and there didn't seem to be a manager in site. I work just around the corner from there and needless to say I will never be back. My advise, save your money and go to the superstore across the street who makes better fresh pizza then the "Italian" place.
Liza
WHO COOKS PROSCUITTO ON A PIZZA???. My first visit there was very disappointing. The service was slow and the food came to the table cold. I did go back a second time as I understand the " working out the kinks" when a business first opens.<br/><br/>Sad to say that when I went back the second time, nothing had changed...... only this time I ordered a prosciutto pizza.... I thought they cant screw this one up.. its pizza.<br/>WHO THE HECK COOKS PROSCIUTTO ON A PIZZA??? they call themselves 'Italian street food".. if you did that in Italy they'd kill you!! For those of you that don't understand why this is such a big no, no is that prosciutto becomes very, very salty when its cooked<br/>If you don't know that much about Italian tradition then don't claim to be Italian street food. you just broke the unwritten rule on how to make a prosciutto pizza!!
Jennifer Andrus
Worst Pasta Ever.. Being a huge fan of Italian street food, I was beyond excited to try Via Cibo. I had looked online at the menu and everything sounded fantastic. Pasta, pizza, paninis? Yum! I had also read some really good reviews so I just had to try it. Oh how I wish I didn't. Perhaps it was because of my high expectations that I ended up having such a poor experience overall. <br/><br/>I will start with the good. This place has an inviting ambiance. The open kitchen is cool to watch and the restaurant has a variety of different seating choices (bars, long tables, booths, etc.) which makes it visually interesting. Now, a pretty restaurant is nice and all, but I came to eat! Like I said, I had looked online at the menu so I already knew what I wanted to order when I got there. I had decided on the pesto pasta and the Tuscan fries, both of which sounded amazing.<br/><br/> I should mention that I am a pasta fiend. It is my favorite food ever and I have never had a bowl of pasta that I didn't like. Until now, that is. The pasta was disgusting. It was literally swimming in oil and smelled like wet dog. Wet dog! I couldn't even eat half of it. This was the first time that I have never finished a plate of pasta. When the server came to collect my plate, it was virtually untouched but she did not ask if anything was wrong. The staff honestly just doesn't seem to care. The Tuscan fries were okay. I couldn't taste the truffle oil that was supposedly on them, and they were under seasoned but they were edible (unlike the pasta). It seemed like I was not the only one who didn't like their food. The table next to mine had the fries as well and they also mentioned how under seasoned they were. The lady at that table also sent back her pasta and ordered something else. I wish I had done that too.<br/><br/>A part of me really wants to give this place another chance but the price makes it really unlikely that I will. Two pasta dishes, a side of fries, and two italian sodas came to $47.00. $47!!!.

Sandwiches here are very good. Pizza is so so. Not as good as famoso but better than average. Haven't tried the pasta but it looked really good. Service was fairly fast too. All in all, it's a pretty good place to eat. Food and ingredients are fairly hight quality. I'd definitely recommend this place and I will certainly become a returning regular for forseeable future.

Generally Good, But With Issues. Food is generally good, like the kale salad with a pretty good vinaigrette, the house made sausage is stellar, anything osso bucco is very good.<br/> The "buts": But the service is spotty. The last time the line-up for drinks was so long the food was ready before we were out of line, a real problem in my view. Also the server knocked the top off the sandwich onto the table and simply picked it up and put it back on the sandwich. The napkins are nice and thick and fluffy, but leave waaaay too much lint on dark clothes. <br/>Food downside: The Mesclun mix, and this is a problem in a lot of places, was not fresh, with lots of brown and slimy bits, really offputting. Stick with fresh mad people, not pre-mix mesclun.

Won't be back. For $65.00 pasta was less than luke warm (polite way to say cold). Strage feel to room. Chairs stacked all over like they were closing but weren't. Felt unwelcome. Felt staff unprofessional, lots of hugging in open kitchen. No clear strong night lead or managemt presence. Just a really strange and pricy experience that I do not want to repeat.

Decided to try this place out today, you walk in and walk up to order. After staring at the menu of pasta, salad or pizza (only options) and being blown away by the absurd prices I finally place my order. You must continue down to the end of the line to order beverages and to pay. This is the only Italian restaraunt that I have been to that only has three flavors of Italian sodas... And ended up being quite flat and not worth the $3.00 they charge for them. We finally get to pay and it's $40 for two people to have lunch! I don't have a problem paying for good food, but it had better be good for that price. Then it happens that they prompt for a tip.. I have a big problem tipping before I receive service and don't think it is in good taste to ask your customer to tip before they have the chance to receive good food or service. We ended up having to clear out own table in order to sit down and eat. It was ridiculous. Once our food arrived the pasta was terribly bland and lackluster while the flatbread was just okay. Overall the food was fairly disappointing and not worth what was paid. Will I come here again? Not that it needs to be said but no, it is not likely to happen. Would I recommend it to a friend? No, probably not.

Via Ci-no tip option please!. Walk in and walk up to order, stare at the menu and finally decide on either pasta, salad or pizza (only options) then after being blown away by the prices that are ridiculous for Deerfoot Meadows and regaining my balance I order. No don't pay here at this till, walk over to another till at the end of a little pathway and order your drink separately and pay there. Oh okay, $40 for two people, a pizza, some pasta, one italian soda and a water, well I ordered it so I guess I will pay and hopefully its amazing. Then it happens, a tip option. I have been in this place for 3 minutes, haven't even sat down, spent $40 on a meal for two and now you want more of my hard earned money? Ridiculous. But of course while being flustered and having three young employees standing staring at me with a pin pad in my hand I hit 15% like an idiot. Haven't even sat down and I hate this place, I feel like I have been taken advantage of and I haven't even had a chance to judge the food. It arrives and the pasta is bland and terrible while the pizza crust is nice and average for a Neapolitan style but the toppings are lacking. Overall the food was fairly disappointing and not worth what was paid. Will I come here again? Not that it needs to be said but no, not ever, no chance and I will never recommend Via Cibo to anyone. I go to Deerfoot Meadows often and will forever shake my head as I drive by wanting my $40 (plus 15%!) back. But hey, try and for yourself and learn the hard way like me.

Good place to eat, very friendly staff, but they do need to update there hours online, drive wife and kids there after a long day and they were closed an hour earlier then posted. Very disappointing.<br/><br/><br/>-----15 Apr, 2014-----<br/><br/>3rd visit and all three experiences were great. What I like most is the unique set up. The young staff carries themselves with class. Very bubbly and friendly. The food was fresh, healthy and surprisingly fast. I always seem to leave with a smile.<br/><br/>Only one complaint- I have trouble reading the smaller print on the overhead menu... And my vision is quite good... I think?

Not what I expected. I generally don't enjoy this type of restaurant; you pay up front (tip included), and once you're served you're almost always left to your own devices.<br/><br/>Our food arrived lightening fast, and it was delicious. <br/><br/>I still don't enjoy the mechanics of the restaurant, but I was happy with my meal. It is a very family-friendly place, so I felt a little bit like I had grabbed a seat near a McDonald's play room. It isn't my vibe of choice, but if you have young kids, it seems to be the place to go!

Carbonara. I ordered a Carbonara pasta. But for some reason it contained "ham", can somebody tell me if that is normal? On the menu is said shaved cheese, egg, parsley and pancetta, where is the ham or is ham called something else in Italian?

The serving model is a bit of a pain but the food was good and the prices reasonable. Friendly and pleasant place for a quick meal

Not into public complaining but couldn't find any head office contact on mobile website... Guy at the first till was awesome. At the second till where we paid; we were greeted by a grumpy young girl which confirmed our order, we sat down and our food arrived very quickly! (But stone cold) we were neither offered or shown where salt pepper or chill flakes could be located, no quality check till we completely finished eating , we informed the grumpy till clerk of our first impressions of the restaurant and our concerns . She explained to us that this was "fast casual" ( which is a dining style I've experienced many times, which is usually executed amazingly ) and walked away! I anticipated a great experience and generously tipped before I sat down which was a big mistake. I would appreciate if someone from the head office would make some effort to connect with me . A few simple things could change and it would be an IT place to grab a quick lunch.. But as of now I will NEVER return or recommend to anyone !

Not bad.... Went for an early lunch on a Sunday and when we arrived it was empty but completely filled up by the time we ate. The ordering system (once you figure out that you have to go to the front) is pretty straight forward but I can see how some people can get confused as you're not entirely sure if you're in a fast food place or a full service restaurant.<br/><br/>Anyway, I was excited to see piadina on the menu but I didn't care particularly for the offerings so I asked for one of the panini to be served on piadina instead. They happily obliged which was great.<br/><br/>The piadina however was cold. In hindsight now I realize they might not have the facility to prepare it to be served the way it's supposed to be but I would have appreciated it if it were somewhat warm. Had the fries with it and they were pretty good although the sauce they serve with the fries doesn't really make sense. My friend had the portabello mushroom piadina and she complained that it was nearly impossible to eat because it was really messy and you couldn't pick it up without everything falling out of it. Maybe they don't have the piadina concept down yet. Next time I'll have a panini.<br/><br/>I'll give it another try when I'm in the area (far for me) but I wouldn't go out of my way to return. No complaints on the service by the way - I see a few here so I wanted to add that in..

Highly disorganized and lady taking orders was clueless. Should be fired!!! Had to wait because kitchen was backed up and she was turning people away at the door. We asked for manager and the duty supervisor came and took our order. Said she did not know why was having to wait. --- awful service!!!!! Save your money and time. Go somewhere else.

Unimpressed. I met a friend for lunch mid-way through the lunch rush. You aren't sure whether to not you should actually order food because you have no idea if a table will be available by the time you are ready. We ordered to go but ended up finding a table. I paid by card and selected to add a tip and the tipping options were unbelievable. I wasn't going to tip 25% for glorified fast food. Midway though eating my lunch companion went to check out gelato flavours and I went to have a quick peak, when I got back to the table (where our coats were clearly marking our territory, the rest if my food had already been removed and our glasses weed stacked ( mine still half full of soda), I unstacked and continued drinking and a moment later the girl came and snatched my glass from me without asking if I was done. Ultimately, I thought the food was good, although a little pricey but most of the servers need work.

Lost customer. I have been to this place a few times and really not impressed on how the manager talks or treats his employee's. He is quite rude and think he enjoys making his staff feel very low... too bad, quite enjoyed the food but will not be going back

Italian Street Food. I confess I never knew that Italian street food existed - I like it! Our lunch began with a side arugula salad which was fresh and nicely accented with cheese, peppers and a lovely dressing. I choose the Pollo Balsamico Piadina based on the cashier's suggestion. I would gladly order this again. A savoury sauce, chicken and cheese. My husband decided to help me finish my dish and much preferred it over his dish, Ossobuco Panino, which he found salty. We enjoyed our lunch, we were in and out quickly and no grease. I am looking forward to trying the pasta next time.

So good!. First off, the atmosphere is amazing! ordered the steak panino, and for a guy that normally doesn't like arugula, it was absolutely outstanding! <br/><br/>The Tuscan fries needed less salt, but the sauce made them perfect. finished it off with 1 scoop of raspberry lime sorbet and coconut (dairy free) gelato. <br/><br/>All together it cost $58 for two. Exceeded my expectations! <br/><br/>Give this place a try :)

Dirty wine glasses, not polished. I personally don't agree with stemless wine glasses but unpolished doesn't fly. Our food came out in under 10 minutes. I appreciate quick food however my lamb osobucco pasta wasn't strained and left a pool of liquid. Truffle fries had but a hint of truffle. Pizza crust was great, crispy and delicious. Espresso and French press coffee right on par. Delicious.

OK for a quick Work Lunch. Nice modern interior. Busy atmosphere, but quick friendly service. This is more of an upscale fast food joint. You order at the front and then pass down the cafeteria style line up and then pay at the end of the line. <br/>I had the Prosciutto Piadina, it was 13 dollars and a pop was 3 dollars and a tiny spoonful of gelato is around 6 dollars, plus they ask for a tip. <br/>It was ok but overall I wasn't impressed with the piadina. It was a quite dry, and it didn't have very much in it. It wasn't horrible but I wouldn't order it again.<br/><br/>I will give Via Cibo another try but I will order something different next time.

Visited Via Cibo today for the 1st time off of a recommendation from a coworker. Place was super busy so I was a bit surprised how fast the service was. We ordered a pizza and pasta plus a side of truffle fries plus 2 glasses of wine. Food was excellent and were ready for more wine but had to go back to work. Did grab a gelato on the way out though!! We will be back and next time try the piadinas that looked delish when the people beside us tried them. Welcome to the neighbourhood Via Cibo.

Went to Via Cibo deerfoot and loved it. This concept is ahead of its time for Canada. Give it a few years and the service style will be all over. Food is authentic and reasonably priced
Cory
Fast food environment, dine in prices. Fast food should have a tip option on the debit machine. The place was busy and dirty. Food was ok. Cost was $59.00 for 2 small pizzas, a small bowl of pasta, and 2, half cup gelatos. Not impressed

Don't even bother unless you like your food cold and flavorless

First time visiting, not impressed at all. All of our food was cold including a pizza which I find very hard to accomplish. We sent it all back and the server was very polite about it but when she told the chef or cook, she shook her head and rolled her eyes. We had our food returned to us about 10 min later and guess what still cold. We will give this place one more chance but so far not worth the money or time.

We really liked it. Good menu, great value, speedy service, nice atmosphere. We really enjoyed our food. Great ingredients. My only criticism... The pasta wasn't hot. Please don't serve coldish food. But we will go back again, hopefully that was a one off. We enjoyed the meatballs, fries, salad.

Fantastic Restaurant! There are certainly some growing pains with a new restaurant being busier than they ever expected but it's new, fresh and overall awesome! food is exceptional for the price and it is fresh and sourced locally. Have been there for lunch and look forward to trying a evening out there too!

Ok at best. We went here this weekend with the hope that this restaurant would have table service. When we walked in we realized that wasn't the case but we decided to give it a try. Essentially this is just upscale fast food. The food was ok at best but wasn't cheap. <br/><br/>My major complaint is the expectation of a tip when there is no table service. I don't tip at subway... just because they have nicer uniforms here should I be expected to pay extra for service I'm not going to receive? We didn't tip and got a snarky look and comment. I'm sorry but if you want a restaurant job that pays tips you should maybe work at a proper restaurant. <br/><br/>Realistically, you'd be better off going to any upscale casual dining restaurant in the city. Same price, better experience.

Cold Food. Went to Via Cibo today for lunch with two people I work with. We waited 25 minutes for the first of our orders to come up, and their food came first (I ordered mine first). We waited an additional 10 minutes for my food to come up, and since some was ready before the rest of my order I had two plates of cold food with lukewarm fries. Very disappointed. When I asked to speak with the manager he seemed annoyed to have to speak to a customer, and gave a fake excuse that they needed to reduce the ossobuco, and when my co-worker said he also had the ossobuco the manager stumbled over his words until we left all with cold meals.

Went here in hopes it would be as good as Cibo on 17th ave but we were let down. My boyfriend and I eat had a pasta dish (he had the pesto with penne, I had one with spicy sausage). Both were so-so. They still did not have their liquor license so we couldn't enjoy a glass of wine with our meal. I doubt I'll go again.

A nice option. Quick, fairly priced, and large portions. Try the OssoBucco sandwich for a unique and delicious lunch item.

AWESOME! Must go. I'm a huge deli fan and this is the best. I have no issue with paying a higher price for an excellent meal. The restaurant is clean and with great energy. There are some gluten free items, glass bottled water and great soft bread. Can't wait to go back. The only thing it needs is pictures of each item on the menu.

Worth Visiting. I visited Via Cibo during the afternoon of the second day of their grand opening and it was definetly worth experiencing! The food and atmosphere was unique and the food tasted superb! There were so many items to choose from; of course I chose the broccolini and sausage pasta which was a little spicy but tasted great! The only thing was I knew they were extremely busy as it was the second day they were open but I waited over an hour for my food to arrive; there were a few other people waiting for their food as well and I wasn't sure what was happening and no one else knew either but after posting on the company page on facebook they were in the midst of fixing the problem so that the next time I visit the service will be much faster. I give this place a 9/10 for overall experience ( food, atmosphere and customer service )

I stopped by today for a quick bite. Wow! HUSTLE - the only word I could describe the staff. I ordered the prosciutto arugula pizza. It was not quite like the one I had in New York.... Put pretty damn close! Really like the food and the concept and I will definately be back!

Molto bene!. I have been waiting for this ristorante to open and I am impressed! I went at lunch today and had the Osso Bucco Panino and the side Insalata Cesare! To say I inhaled is an understatement: the sandwich was so tasty, I couldn't eat it fast enough! I haven't eaten my salad at this point (portion sizes are HUGE and I'm full!) but I am sure it's going to be just as good. Granted, they were slammed and the service seemed slow. I ordered at 12:17p and had my takeaway order by 12:39p. Not too shabby! Thanks for an awesome first time experience. In the words of the Terminator: I'll be back!

Been there twice.. Nice place and great food. They only opened two days ago and I have been there twice! the Cesear Salad is amazing and the steak has an excellent flavour. I had the Side of meatballs today and can't say enough good things about them. Service is a little slow but they are new and have been extreemly busy when I have been there.

Great Food. Had pasta, friend had sandwich and we shared a pizza. Food was excellent and store is beautiful, service was also good. Will be back.....maybe even this weekend. Gotta open another store on other side of town

Great Concept, Great Food.. I was able to sample this new concept restaurant as a VIP before it opened and I think it will be a big hit. I ask that those of you commenting on service wait until they have had a chance to actually get a feel for how busy it will be. To the person who was upset about the service....give them a break, they just opened yesterday. In my opinon the food is exceptional for the price and I love the fact that it is fresh and sourced locally. Looking forward to going back when they are in full swing.

Lunchtime. My name is Larry , myself and my manager walked in to your location to have some take-out at the DeerFoot Meadows location, ordered our food at 11.57 am and at 12.58 we still were waiting for our food, aksed about it and they said coming right up, another 10 minutes went by and we left with no food or our money back. Needless to say we will never be back. The restaurant was packed with take-out people waiting for there food, they all were upset waiting also. Its great to be busy at lunchtime but if all you do is take orders and can't fill them whats the point. I wish you all the best , because you will need it.

I was glad that we looked at the menu before hand, because you order right when you go in, much like fast food. Fast food this is definitely not though. We shared the Via Casalinga Pizza, and a side of Tuscan Fries. Everything was absolutely delicious, piping hot and fresh. It was more than enough food for the two of us. We perused the menu a bit more while we were waiting for our food to come, and they have many more options that we would like to try out. Overall, it was a very nice night out.

...I decided to order myself a nice cup of Latte which was not only presented beautifully, but it tasted really rich and creamy. It was quite perfect actually! Anything would have been perfect on a day like this, but this was beyond perfect! We started with a bowl of Chef’s Soup which was a chicken egg drop soup. It looked really greasy but it didn’t taste like it – even though it was! This soup was made with chicken, chicken broth, carrots and celery – of course with the egg drop. It was quite flavourful and quite different from any other kind of soup I’ve had before. As there was a bunch of us, we had 2 pizza’s ordered. The first pizza was their Margherita Pizza which was a vegetarian pizza with mozzarella, tomato and basil. It was a fine pizza wit

You might have driven by this trendy eatery located in the Deerfoot Meadows shopping area just off Deerfoot trail and wondered what it's all about. As the name implies, Via Cibo is the more casual sister restaurant of Cibo on 17th Avenue. The food here still uses the finest and freshest ingredients but the service and style of preparation are much more casual.  Via Cibo offers dine-in or take-out.  Dining in requires you to order your food and drink at the counter and pay before finding a table, where your food is delivered. We arrived right before the rush and found the service to extremely efficient, with our entire meal arriving minutes after we sat down. We ordered the linguini pomodoro with sausage ($13) and the pollo al pesto pizza ($13). The pasta was perfectly cooked but the tomato sauce was a bit on the watery side, with small bits of saus
