Review Dragon Pearl Restaurant - Calgary

Marlene S
Always great food! Pan fried dumplings and salt and pepper squid are family favourites. We did the takeout last 2 times.

I’ve been coming here with my family for years and the service and food is so good every time. Sam is the sweetest server and the food is delicious. Best Chinese in Calgary !!
Rothna Jones
First time ordering from here. The food is full of flavour, came super hot and the portions are huge. Would definitely order from here again!
Brad Cooke
Incredible service and the food is an inglewood western inspired Chinese staple. My only complaint is that the sauces are quite sweet.

I will start off with complimenting the food, it is always delicious. I have lived in Inglewood for 10 years and dragon Pearl was always a favourite. I stayed away for 4 years due to getting hair in one of my dishes. The restaurant offered $50 off my next order....rather than fix that meal. I ended up ordering food from an alternate restaurant that night to satisfy my hunger. Fast forward 4 years of dodging this place, I gave it another chance on New Years Eve. Low and behold once again got a 6-8 inch black hair in my dish. Simple hair net can solve this issue; too late to save me as a customer though. :(

I went here after years of not going-- I forgot what I had been missing. The food was incredibly prompt and so, so delicious. Everything you would want, sweet and tasty sauces, veggies with the right amount of crunch. The chicken was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. We had a shrimp dish and the the shrimp too was a great texture. The food is cheap too. The place has a cute, hole-in-the-wall atmosphere. This place is definitely one of the hidden pearls of Inglewood.

Delicious Chinese food and fast service. We ordered 5 dishes that was ready for pickup in 20 minutes and every one of them was amazing, especially the satay fried rice and stir fried noodles with curried beef. We paid $70 and had a filling dinner with enough leftovers for tomorrow. Highly recommend this place and we’ll definitely be back again!

The dragon Pearl used to be a really nice place to eat but found chicken shards in the ginger chicken and everything tasted really bland.... I don't find it a very clean place anymore and the food is not near what it used to be... That'll be the last time I get food from there for sure.... I would not recommend it
Erin Fenwick
This was some of the worst I have ever had. It took well over an hour for our order to arrive, and it was like warm at best. The food was greasy and bland, the almond chicken was disgusting. I will not waste my money on this place, not worth it.
Bill Broad
This is the best Chinese we visit. Not the fanciest but the food is top class. The dumplings are magnificent. Service is brilliant.
Nicole Kotyk
Really nice owners and staff. The food was among the best Chinese food my family has ever had. Each dish had a different taste (all of them were incredible). It was amazing. Will definitely return next time we are in Calgary!
Patricia Mackay
Patricia Mackay. Visiting from Lancashire, England. Friends took me for lunch at the Dragon Pearl. The dumplings were to die for. The service efficient.
Jennifer Thibodeau
This is the best place for Chinese food. Usually good service.
Jeanne Ducharme
My favorite restaurant. They serve the best sizzling rice. It's hard to find and no one does it better than The Dragon Pearl .
Curtis Dell
One of the best places in town for dumplings ! Go on the weekend mornings to get dim sum & dumplings.

We just moved to Calgary this past summer and Dragon Pearl is quickly becoming a family favourite!

A friend introduced us to the Dragon Pearl awhile back & we continue going. Great food, great service!

4 of us went Saturday. Was very good and lots of food for 100. $

1983 my Dad took me to the Dragon Pear restaurant. That's were he dipped my chopstick in the chilli oil. I've been hooked ever since . They opened Charlie Chans in Kensington another great establishment. Awesome food. Ya gotta eat there.

Similar to the previous review, I’ve been going here since I arrived in Calgary many years ago. The food is amazing. Always fresh and delicious. The service is friendly and fast. Outside of Chinatown, the Dragon Pearl has the best Peking food in the city.

My last review was read 5235 times. This place is a staple in Inglewood. It is a great old fashioned style cafe. The food is good, always consistent, I have been going for years, have never been disappointed

The food was made quickly and delivered quick but the taste was not good. It arrived hot and on time but it was bland. Shanghai noodles did not taste good. Had a lot of soy sauce in it. Sweet and sour pork was also disappointing.

Nothing short of quality, sincerity, and authentic food. If you're looking for something traditional, quaint, and homey this is the spot for you. Their pan-fried wontons have always been one of my childhood favourites growing up in Calgary. My mom used to work here when she was younger, and she left this place with many great memories and they always welcome her back like family. They are genuine and hard-working people and take great attention and care to their quality and consistency in their food. I hope this place is as well received as it deserves to be.

Calling all ginger beef lovers! I wouldn't say I'm a GB expert but I've tried a lot of GB in my time and this place does it the best in Calgary. Why? The beef is always tender and you get pieces thicker than pencil-width. The sauce has a bit of heat and is not too sweet or sticky. The batter is crispy and not too thick or doughy. Try it hot out of the kitchen and there's a good chance you'll think it's the best too. As for the other stuff on the menu, it's excellent too though the fried rice isn't my favourite (still good though). Service is very friendly and it's usually easy to get a table on weekends. Try it out, folks!

This is the only Chinese food to order in town if you want the best! Have been going here for 13 years, nothing compares. Best things on the menu: ginger beef, dumplings, mu shu pork, hot & sour soup and special fried rice. Have never been disappointed

Service has always been fast and staff have been friendly - they tend to remember your order once you've been in a couple of times. Food is also delicious and the prices are appropriate for their pricing.

Worst take out we've ever had. Everything was soggy. The "chop suey" was 95% cabbage, the egg fu yung was bland, the ginger beef disgusting and the egg rolls inedible. Don't waste your time, money or taste buds.

Located in Inglewood, Dragon Pearl has been a long-time favorite for my hubby and I. If you are looking for authentic Chinese specifically Szechuan and Mandarin style, then Dragon Pearl is definitely your dining choice. We absolutely adore their signature homemade pan-fried dumplings, stir-fried noodles with satay beef , and the beef tendon noodle soup (off the menu). Dragon Pearl dishes are absolutely full of flavor, promising to make your taste buds tingle. Be sure to check out Dragon Pearl and feel free to contact me if you are looking for any menu-selection advice. Have a terrific day!

Not sure why all our neighbours rave about the food. It's always full, so people definitely like the restaurant, but I've yet to have a dish here that's anything but stereotypical Americanized Chinese. Prices are a bit better than most comparable restaurants. It's local for me, so I still drop in once in a while, but not if I'm looking for anything special.

Great Food, Authentic Service. Excellent food. It has more of a home-made flavour than most Western Style Chinese restaurants.., which for me is a huge plus. Genuine service and great dishes that sizzle and pack lots of well rounded flavours.
Shane Rempel
Worst (western-style) Chinese food I've ever had. Ginger beef was disgusting - soggy and inedible. The noodles were bland and smelled like rotting cabbage. What a waste of money. I will never go back.
Jack
Gross ginger beef. A sign of a good Chinese restaurant is good ginger beef. The ginger beef from Dragon Pearl was soggy, chewy, light in colour and coated with a very thick goopy sauce. One of the worst I've ever eaten, and I've eaten a lot of Chinese food. Very disappointed I wasted my money on take out from here.
Hungry
Hit and miss, had it at my friends a few months ago and it was great. Had a craving for it last night and it took over an hour to get here, for 3 dishes, ordered at 8pm, it was cold and they charged us for but didn't bring any drinks, the food was sub par at best and for the record I am not a picky eater especially when it comes to chinese. I will stick with silver dragon, they have yet to disappoint and the food comes so hot you would think the kitchen is in the back of their delivery car.
Mike
I tried the hot and sour soup small portin was enough for 4 people

Special chow mein had shrimp, pork, chicken. Cabbage and I ordered small tin noodles

Unfortunately both dishes were kinda boring????

Awesome Food!!!. We have been going for years and it's one of the best Chinese food restaurants you will find in Calgary . Awesome dumplings , curried chicken and pan fried wontons etc.... Eat in is better than take-out .
Trish Lindsey
My Fave. I have always loved Dragon Pearl. I will admit that their ginger beef is not the same as it was, which is sad because that is my favorite dish. It is better if you eat it in rather than take out. And I noticed too that they have changed their sauce in the S&S Pork. It is so gross! The pork has a weird taste and texture too, not really sure it is pork >< but I will assume it is. Vegetable delight is the best veggie dish out there.
Dumplings and spring rolls as well are one of the best!
Totally recommend Dragon Pearl, it is so worth the travel.

Mandarin Pork. An old friend took ushere. And what a treat!
Loved thep lace, food and service....will definitely be back!

One of the best Chinese food places I've been to in this city. Been going for years and equality is always there the ginger beef is one of the best I've found in this city . If you're looking for a good food try this place and the staff is friendly
Hopelessly Hungry
Best Asian food We have had in Calgary. Finally a place that has gristle less chicken!
Bella
Terrible. I ordered my usual favorites Shanghai noodles, salt and pep seafood and dumplings. Dumplings were pretty good. The noodles and seafood were nearly thrown out but I was starving. The shanghai noodles were incredibly bland and 50% bean sprouts. Almost tasted like ramen noodles. My absolute favorite S&P Seafood was horrible. I completely agree with a previous reviewer, why is it coated in some gross yellow batter? And absouletly no red peppers. I had too add my own. Spent $80 on dinner for 3 (there was 3 other dishes) and it was a complete waste of money. Will avoid, even with the $15 credit.

Still Good, Find Out for Yourself. Although reading other's reviews can sometimes detour me, I always find it difficult unless I try it out for myself. You can tell by previous reviews that this restaurant takes their reviews seriously, by responding to a few.

I will have to see what's what in a year from now, but my current experiences are as follows:

They're supposed to be known for their ginger beef & dumplings?

The ginger beef, could use a little more spice, it seems too sweet, & more of a chewy consistency. Not too bad. I will try again. Looks picture perfect.

The Vegetarian Spring rolls have no flavor. Just cabbage, no spice. The pork spring rolls, are not much different. Have a really nice crispness to them.

I went to their wor won ton soup, which is fully loaded, & a great tasting soup! It's not loaded in salt.

I tried their szechuan beef. Really good! Fresh. Flavor. Tender. Try it with some white rice.

I tried their pineapple shrimp. Also good. Fresh. Flavor. No veggie over cooked.

I tried take out, both times, person on the other end was polite, picked up order, they were polite. Did not hang up before I did.

We ate in. Good service. Polite. Friendly. Fresh food. Clean.

I say don't try the over westernized foods there, that's what you'll get. Unless you like it.

Bad Service Bad Food. I should have listened to the reviews posted on this place. The food was the most bland I have ever had (I ordered Mongolian Beef). The service was not much better. I ordered take out, and the person on the phone was incredibly curt. I finished the order and they hung up on me. I was not given a price or pick up time. Confused, I called back and come to find out that is how they end their take out orders. Don't waste your time. Walk down the street to Minh Chau! Their satay soup is fantastic!

Hidden Gem. Dragon Pearl is a lot like putting a pair of pants on and finding $50 in your pocket. This place is low profile and nestled in Inglewood but delivers some of the best Chinese Food in the city. The Salt and Pepper Squid is to die for! The Pinapple Shrimp are insanely fresh and are not to be missed! Only bad thing I could possibly say is that the Ginger Beef this go round seemed to be a lil different than in previous visits and was not as crispy and golden as i remember. Having said that the service was wonderful and the room adequate. Two thumbs UP.

Seriously! The curried vegetables are amazing here! I never get tired of them. Also had the almond chicken, ginger beef... Would certainly not call them bland! Delightful!

Good Food? - Only in my Memories. Revisited the Dragon Pearl after a 20 year interlude. Ate at this place when it opened - the food was delicious, exciting, different at that time. Ate there yesterday - now it is sad and disappointing. Dumplings were good - we really enjoyed them- cooked to perfection. The salt & pepper seafood - what the heck is that yellow crap they coat their S&P with? Gross - disgusting. We scraped the fowl crust off and ate the seafood hidden underneath Ginger beef - you have to be kidding - this is the first place I ever had ginger beef and it was fantastic. I've had ginger beef hundreds of times since. This was certainly one of the worst attempts at the dish I have come across. The Dragon Pearl went downhill when the women and cooks left it to start the Kam Han restaurant 20 some years ago. Seems it never recovered.

Bland.. Just ordered delivery, chicken dish, beef dish and tofu dish and the dumplings. Everything kind of tasted the same. Not alot of flavour, no spices. would NOT order again, dissapointing.

Pretty Good. The food came fast and it wasn't bad at all. Cute little restaurant with great service. Prices were definitely reasonable. In a nice area of town with lot's of little shops around it. The only problem is it can get pretty busy and isn't a big place so I would recommend making reservations on the weekend or else you may have to wait...we just squeaked in without them but during our people it got packed. Going back for sure.

I have been coming to Dragon Pear ever since the late '80s, when we would come all the way from Red Deer for Sunday dinner. Everything I have ever tried has been fantastic, and the 'restaurant makeover' some years back really improved the decor. The staff is fantastic and not only know us by name, they give us anything that we'd like, regardless of whether or not it's on the menu. I recommend this for anyone who is looking for a really flavourful experience. Everyone I've taken has fallen in love with the food, it's contagious ! We LOVE it here ~ ginger beef, salt and pepper squid, chow-mein delight, and the all-important, cold and flu - curing wor won ton soup ~ it's what we ask for ( also good for hangovers)

Decent. The best Chinese in Inglewood. Certainly not the best in Calgary but generally speaking you'll be good if this the only option around.

When it comes to Chinese food, we normally stick to our local favourite, the Peking Garden, but tonight we felt like heading uptown. After checking things out on Urbanspoon we landed on the Dragon Pearl. Very pleased with the experience. The hot and sour soup is among the best we've tasted, as was the salt & pepper seafood. Pineapple S&S chicken was tasty, although the chow mein delight was just so-so. One odd thing: We have two little girls and asked for milk for them, but were told they don't keep milk.

Overall happy with this restaurant, the food and the service, and we'll likely return at some point.

Don't get delivery. This place was amazing when I went there a few weeks ago, so I decided to get delivery and pay the 8$ charge because it was so good. 2 hours later I got my food which was cold and the ginger beef, which was good the first time I had it, was bland and dry. I think this restaurant is meant to be visited not ordered from.

Surprisingly Satisfying. After searching endlessly we FINALLY found it!
I would return here everytime to fullfill my chinese food craving. Best I've had in Calgary so far!
Clean restaurant and very friendly staff.
Very Reasonable prices.

BLAND...my poor taste buds.... This was one of the blandest western-Chinese food I've had the misfortune of trying! I've had my fair share of crappy Chinese food, but this is seriously bad for a city like Calgary. We had so much left over because we couldn't eat another bite of crap. We ended up throwing away most of it. How can you mess up Ginger Beef? Ugh!
Smadsen99
Had a fantastic selection of foods, we tried the pineapple chicken, vegetable noodles, and mongolian beef. It was all amazing! Especially the beef :)

Don't get all the great reviews. just okay.. I tried this place based on the 86% of people liking it. i even ordered the mandarin chicken that people kept raving about in the reviews.

my verdict is that it is just okay. nothing special at all. we had a few dishes, mixed veg with noodles, dumplings and the so-called dazzler - mandarin chicken. i was really disappointed with the mandarin chicken. cheap gristly bits of chicken are deep fried beyond recognition making it a struggle to chew. the mandarin sauce was additionally not appetizing to me at all.

i obviously don't get why this dish is so great. i am continually disappointed by places that use cheap and fatty bits of meat instead of the quality stuff. i realize that it is battered and deep fried but come on. chewy gristly chicken is not masked nor enhanced by batter, deep frying and an overabundance of sauce.

this is awful but I would rather eat mall Chinese food. at least then i expect chewy over-sauced food but it is a whole lot less money.

i tend to support local restaurants but sorry Dragon Pearl, i will be going outside the 'hood for my Chinese food from now on.

Comfort Chinese food.. This place is not preconscious, they serve really good Chinese food.
It is north america Chinese food but it's good.

Fantastic Chinese, quick service, great prices!!! Highly recommended!

Ohhh soo good. I find it hard to come by a great Chinese Food place in this city but so far Dragon Pearl takes the cake! Fast friendly service, and piping hot delicious reasonably priced food..unlike Ming Chau, also in Inglewood and waaay overpriced. The dumplings and house fried rice are the booomb!

Good Stuff.. I discovered this place about a year ago, just popped in after an afternoon stroling around old inglewood. I was very impressed with this old little restaurant, & have been back several times & always satisfied. Is serves up mostly just your typical western style chineese food but the food is always great, the staff is always friendly & the place is always busy with people who travel from all over the city to dine in or take out some of the best Chinese food in the city. The prices are very resonable as well. Try it out, its sure to please.

Excellent Chinese Cuisine!!!. My family will frequent the Dragon Pearl Restaurant about once a month and we never have had any problems with this place. Food is consistantly good and the service is friendly.

Some of our favourites are the Dumplings, Hot and Sour Soup, Mandarin Chicken.

Dragon Pearl is the place to go for chinese food!

Excellent family owned restaurant, friendly and fast. Highly recommended.

This is a top grade family owned Chinese restaurant, the service is quick and extremely friendly and the food is nothing less than exceptional if your looking for some good, fresh , quick Chinese food this is the place to go I give it 5/5 stars!!

Dragon Pearl might be doing "fake" Chinese, but they do it well. Both dishes were loaded with a variety of vegetables that were cooked to the point that they still held their crunch.
