Review Falafel King - Calgary

The store took me to the Middle East. A warm and welcoming design. The food was fresh and delicious. I got a free baghlava ( Turkish dessert) at the end which was great .

Best. Falafel. Ever. Amazing food - the baklava was heavenly, falafel so tasty, fresh veggies. The service was incredibly fast even though the line was practically out the door! So happy we decided to pop in!

We stop by here very frequently to get lunch. Good falafel/shawarma served by really good staff, welcoming us happily. The place might get a little crowded during lunch hours, so plan accordingly. They have seating place as well inside.

I’ve been eating here for close to 25 years! Super tasty and healthy fast food. Lunchtime has a lineup so get there early. Lineup moves pretty quick.

This place is amazing. Great food. Great service. They were really kind with my picky eater kid and had neat options for my foodie kid. Eat here.

The best falafel wrap in the downtown core. The falafel is perfectly cooked and seasoned. The veggies are crispy and fresh. The size is perfect - not too huge and unruly, but filling. The service is always quick and ultra friendly. I've never tried the shawarma and meat options, but judging from how popular this place is over the lunch hour, I'm guessing they are great as well.

Busy place at lunch time. Friendly personnel and fast service. I like the falafel and haven't tried other foods overthere.

We loved the vegetarian falafel wraps. Fresh and affordable. Plus Jafar was really friendly and even included a baklava on the house.

Been here for a very quick take away. Food was an okay. fast served. The wraps did taste good and for tourist like me the portion can be eaten by 2 people.

Falafel were crunchy but the sauce is a bit salty for me. The free im house baklava makes me happy. It did taste very sweet tho, not to mention the honey glaze are everywhere.

This place had a rather long queue during lunch hours, but the service is super fast. The line was fast moving. Got the falafel roll. It was pretty big and filling. costed 8.5$ n comes with a baklawa!

Went here for a late lunch and the server was friendly and very attentive to my order. The place is spacious and has lots of variety of eraps and platters with lots of snacks. Wouls totally go back.

One of the best shawarmas in Calgary! The ingredients are fresh and you definitely get your money's worth. The fresh made juices are awesome too!

Got the mixed shawarma plate. Pretty average overall. The serving size is definitely generous but the meat was very cold. The owner is nice and the place itself is clean.

Till this day, I have not figured out why do all the shwarma places in Calgary try to save on their garlic sauce and just act so stingy about it. I have had shwarma around the world and that don't act like this anywhere else. First of all, I'm paying more for the shwarma here than any other restaurant. I may go back if I don't have any other choice. Also the meat is very less compared to the amount of veggies that they shove in your shwarma

This place has a great assembly line style of making wraps which keeps the ordering process very quick. Very friendly staff, I was even offered a free baklava after ordering which is always a plus. Falafel king has arguably one of the best donairs in Calgary. The donair itself is quite large compared to other places and they are very generous on the meat portions. The veggie selection is plentiful and of high quality. The only thing i would change next time would be to ask for more sweet sauce, as the lady who made mine only put a small amount on. Overall still great experience.

Walked down Stephen ave today for lunch and decided to try this place out since I have heard so many ppl rave about it. I got the donair and it was massive!!! For $9.50 incl.gst you get a free baklava with it. :) I ended sharing a third of the donair with my friend cuz there was no way I could eat it all by myself. The meat was flavourful and it was nicely toasted. Wish they had smaller sizes. The restaurant was quite narrow but have ample seating for diners to order and stay to eat. Will have to check out the other items next time.

This place has delicious food, a very convenient location on Stephen ave , very fair pricing , generous portions and kind staff who work fast. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick, delicious meal. The best donair and Greek salad I've ever had.
Jane Yang
For the price, quality and the quantity this place is amazing! They give you enough top fill you up. The Greek salad is really good! Definitely a good place to grab something quick

The toppings are great (I especially like the pickled veg). While the actual falafel is kind of mediocre, the rest of the sandwich makes up for it. I've always had great service there and the side of baklava is a nice touch.

So we got in and I was not impressed with the place. I din not like the ambiance, it was a bit dark inside and gloomy and the server was not very accomodating. When she gave me my shawarma plate, I was a little disappointed on how it looks like. I saw the drying chopped parsley on the side. I was expecting tabouleh on my plate. Then I wondered what’s the pink thing on my plate as well as I haven’t seen something like it before and I was so hesitant to eat something I do not even know. That’s the only thing I did not like though. The extra Baklava and Falafel on my plate made me happy.

Amazing Falafel!! I have been here many times and it is always a wonderful experience. The owner is so friendly and he will remember you when you come back again. Don't forget to try the Baklava ;)
Juliamarieg
Good portions and lots of veg. As someone who loves veg, I won't complain that the wrap IS mostly comprised of veggies. I also had tried the falafel, which I found not too greasy and just crunchy enough. The wrap even comes with a piece of baklava. There may be cheaper places around, but for downtown this is a yummy option. Beats Subway any day.

Used to be better. (I've lost that lovin' feeling). A couple of things. This place used to be better for a number of reasons:

The quality of the food was higher (not so much chewy/fatty chicken) - I want those tender chicken days back.
your meal wasn't slapped together like you are in a Subway lineup for a meatball sandwich
Friendlier service - now the staff is surly and even got upset that I asked for a togo bag up front (even though i was eating there - eat half and take the rest to go).
the price keeps going up... they keep telling me i'm getting a "free" baklava. I don't even like baklava. why don't you take away or make make optional the baklava and charge less?

There are definitely better Falafel/swarma places around the downtown core that have stepped up. Don't know if I would go back.

Oh Falafel King, How I Miss Thee. Oh, how I miss Falafel King. When I worked down town this was my ultimate favourite lunch spot. When I was pregnant and moody and extra hungry, nothing but "The King" would do. I don't have much need to go down town these days, but when I do, The King it will be. Be warned - it's busy and you will be lined up out the door. It moves fast - but do your part. Know what you want and order fast.

Owners are great; so was the food. We stopped off in Calgary to pick up our rental car for our drive to the Canadian Rockies and happened upon this place while looking for a quick, inexpensive lunch. The husband and wife owners were warm, friendly and very helpful. The falafel sandwiches were excellent, as were the complimentary baklava they gave us for dessert. Would definitely stop off again when in downtown Calgary.

Rip Off. $10.00 for a wrap containing a couple ounces of meat and the rest with vegetables just does not cut it. No value, wayyyyy over priced. IT'S A SANDWICH!

I spent last summer in Jordan and was on the hunt for the perfect falafel in Calgary. Falafel King is King of falafel's in Calgary! Unfortunately I will never eat there again. The woman who works there is so rude. Hands down the worst service I've had in Calgary. I've watched her be so polite with customers before and after me, but when it came down to me she just acts disgusted that she has to serve me. Really too bad because like I said the food is really good.

I was here today and the chicken shawrama was disgusting. Definitely not worth $10.00 It's crap! Will not return sorry!

I hate this place. First of all honestly the food is not good at all I am shocked to see this much people have voted plus for this place there are lots of better donair places in Calgary but I wouldn't mind the food until this happened to me there, I have to add that I've been there 2 times and this happened second time.
The staff are so mean. I was with an Arabic friend of mine and he was speaking Arabic with the lady who make the donairs she was speaking so mean to me for nooo reason when I asked about the type of meat they have I was watching her making my friends donair and she just filled his bread with much meat that she could not put anything more and when it came to me she just put 1 fourth of what she put for him!!!! Howwww mean someone can be.. never ever go back and suggest the place to anyone as the taste is nothing special too...

Huge serving. I am not sure that the food is much better than anywhere else but it is good and the shawerma is huge. Plus when I was there the service was very friendly. I would go back for sure.

One of the best in town.. Killer Donair. I've been eating the donair/shwarma game for a good while and this place is one of the best. Always a top choice when down on Stephen Ave.

Not Bad. Will likely return. A fairly good restaurant. It was a bit crowded when I was in there the other day, but the food was good and satisfied my donair craving. The portion size is BIG; too bad they didn't offer a half portions. It was a bit overpriced as well. I'll probably return though and try something else.

Excellent food and service. Came here on a Saturday afternoon to share a chicken shawarma with my fiance and was thoroughly impressed. The gentleman serving us was very friendly and offered to cut our utterly delicious wrap in half. Shawarma + generous amounts of hummus = bliss :)

Best Hummus in Calgary!. I was showing my friend around Calgary, we happened to be in the downtown core. Johnny noticed this place and I have never been here, so we decided to give it a try. I usually go to the Eau Claire Market for Mediterranean cuisine. The server mixed the Hummus right in front of us. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. I had a great Chicken Shawarma, I believe my friend had the Beef Shawarma. Everything was excellent. The outside of the building is questionable, but you should never judge a book by its cover. I will definitely come back here again. Easily a 4/5.

Stale pita, lousy service, sun par taste

FALAFEL HEAVEN. This has got to be Calgary's best falafel, and not only does the food taste amazing but the staff are incredily friendly. I have gone numerous times and will continue to go AND tell all of my friends working down town to check it out! :) Thanks Falafel King!

Excellent falfel. Excellent flavours! Amoungst the elite falafels!

The best.. Falafel King makes the best chicken shawarma in western canda, period. Be sure to order extra garlic!

Not as good as others. I used to eat here regularly ( they used to be king) and have the falafel sandwich. I stopped in today for one and was disappointed. The tomatoes and cabbage tasted musty. I didn't finish the sandwich - threw 1/4 out, which is not like me. Just down the street 4 blocks west is a much better falafel sandwich.

Fast and Delicious. I went to Falafel King yesterday for the first time while on a lunch break. Even though the place doesn't look appealing from the street, it has a nice simple atmosphere. I found the "falafel bar" and the restaurant per se to be really clean. The staff was really cheerful and provided an excellent service. I had a small chat with the cashier, and upon hearing that it was my first time eating in here, he gave me a free baklava which was DELICIOUS.

Now, onto the food.... This is by far the best falafel I've tried in Calgary, the veggies were fresh, the sauce was perfect and the actual falafels were really tasty. Compared to street vendors, the sandwich was slightly overpriced, having paide 9 bucks for a falafel and a coke. But the sandwich was HUGE, it definitely left me satisfied.

I will definitely be coming more often to this place, perhaps on a weekly basis!

Great Chicken Shwarma. The chicken shwarma (with extra garlic) is always a great lunch, better than the beef.

A Cautionary Tale. Vegetarians beware: In addition to finding my falafel extremely overpriced, I was horrified to discover a piece of dubious looking meat in my falafel that had fallen out onto the wax paper it was wrapped in! A vegetarian's worst nightmare! As well, it was noted that the gentleman serving me did not wash his hands before serving me, or wipe down the counter after preparing a chicken shwarma. Eating here is like walking into a land mine: proceed with caution.

Chicken Shawarma!. The Falafel King always features a friendly welcome, and the best Chicken Shawarma in Calgary.

They don't always have the baklava (sometimes it sells out), but when they do it makes a delicious sweet treat after the spicy Shawarma.

Perfect for lunch for anyone in the downtown area, and if you go just before or after the lunch rush you'll miss the line-ups.

Best Shwarma in Cowtown. Long lineup at lunch but it moves pretty fast and its worth the wait.

The restaurant’s appearance wasn’t too impressive. The interior decor is a little dark and gloomy. The bright blue menu casted an eerie glow over the order and prep counter. But hey, who said I was here for the ambiance? I’m here for the food. Since the place is called Falafel King, I decided to try their falafel wrap for $8. I picked the toppings from the order counter. They had a choice of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, parsley, hummus, pickled cabbage, and tahini. The falafels were pre-made and sat under a heat lamp in the back. The wrap was lightly toasted using a sandwich press. This wrap was stuffed with falafels, parsley, lettuce, pickled cabbage and tahini. The wrap was one of the biggest I’ve seen. This not exactly bite-sized. You couldn’t get all the fillings in one bite. I found that the fillings were spilling out all over the place after each bite. This was a messy affair. The falafels had an even consistency that wasn’t too crumbly. There were strong hints of cumin. I found th

The Falafel King falafel wasn't even bad but when you were tasting them side by side, it was pretty obvious that The Chick Pea just tasted better. Setting aside everything else I just nit-picked, at the end of the day, it was more flavorful. If I had to choose, it's the one I would go back for. Personally, I think it may be my favorite thus far. Alannah is still leaning towards Jimmy's. Maybe we will have to get them side by side to declare the true winner. But until then, we still have some more falafel to try!

Every time I am down town and get a little hungry I stop in at my favorite little place, The Falafel King. The food here is great, The portions are huge and workers are really quick and friendly. I have been coming here for a few years now with no plans o
