I just recently dined at Sassi Kitchen & Bar and I must say that it was one of the best meals I have had in a long time! I am what I like to call a "borderline vegetarian" and I do not normally eat meat...unless it is very good quality. The pork chops and ribs are to die for!!! I couldn't get enough of the pork chops. I dined with friends so I had to opportunity to try more than one dish and I can confidently say that all of the ingredients are very fresh and the prices are great too. I will definitely be back the next time I am in Calgary :)
I had a lovely experience at Sassi! The service was prompt and our server (Zoe) was very welcoming and easy to talk to. I went for Saturday brunch and had the salted caramel French toast. My companion had the pizza eggs Benedict. Both were excellent to say the least! I will definately be back and would recommend this restaurant to anyone who asks!
Went here for my birthday dinner. The service was incredible! Our waiter was super fun, joking around with is and making everyone at the table laugh. Another waited offered to take our photo, and was such a gentleman. The owner stopped by to make sure everything was perfect- and created some special dishes for my birthday. The pizza was delicious, wine was great and desserts were superb. The decor was so cool, very clean and chic good for a night out or a romantic dinner. Lovely experience at Sassi, would definitely recommend it to others.
Overall this is a place that I would come to again, but would not be my choice.
It started off as a bad taste in my mouth. When I had called back to confirm a reservation a man answered and was rude. Didn't seem friendly at all.
We attended on Valentine's Day. I had seen some reviews previously on food and service, good and bad. I don't ever make assumptions on a place prior too, cause being in the industry I understand we have good and bad days. The decor was simple. Clean lines, and simple accents. It had a Roman Victorian feel. The chandeliers were gorgeous, lighting set in bird cages. If this is your style, than its simple and elegant. We were seated to the right if the restaurant along the wall. Small 2 top, however a nice view of the entire restaurant.
Our waiter was Jeff, not sure if thats the correct spelling. He was attentive, courteous and he did something not most servers do not do... He anticipated and examined our needs. This is a thumbs up to him. When he noticed I wasn't particularly enjoying my martini choice, I looked again for another and made his suggestion which worked out well. We did not have empty dishes on our table for long. He was quick to bring us our drinks and anticipate our next. We did not have empty glasses. Except shot glasses, of course.
My date had the rack of lamb and I had the Atlantic char of course. We ordered the arancini and the crab cakes to start. The arancini, to be honest, was my least favourite. It was not crisp on the outside as I would prefer, which I have has in many places, instead was soft, while the cheese was warm and melted inside it was in a basic tomatoe sauce. We didn't finish this dish. The crab cakes were good. It came out on a bed of argula and three small cakes. It was simple. Nothing bad about it and nothing amazing about it.
Our mains arrived and the lamb looked amazing. Came out on a bed of roasted kale and Brussels sprouts and potatoes. Although there was definitely a LOT of oil? All over the board it came out on, only the potatoes were not my favourite. I tried the lamb. You all know I don't eat meat, just seafood. This was delightful. Tender and flavourful, no game taste, and every last bite was eaten by my date. Which is amazing, cause he doesn't like anything. He ordered the full rack which is 8 lollipops,if I remember it was $57? Not a terrible price as compared to other restaurants.
The Atlantic char I had higher hopes of. Maybe because I ate at guild the other day and the salmon came out so moist, I was hoping the same for my char. Which was not the case, slightly over cooked, not dry. It was not my favourite... Both dishes came with the same sides. I did enjoy the roasted kale abs the Brussel sprouts the most. I had the mushroom risotto as a side and although great in its own way, was not what I was expecting. It was very creamy, almost soup like. This was probably not my favourite, I was expecting less cream and more mushroom, still tasted great.
We ordered dessert to go, we were tired. I did not try the dessert so I cannot comment.
One thing pointed out by my date was that he felt... Maybe imposed is not the word... We watched who I believe was the owner/manager selectively speak and go certain tables, however disregarded us as insignificant. We couldn't shake this feeling since we first stepped into the restaurant and seen him there. Not a hello from him, however a warm greeting from another server, and then just pointed to a table and walked away. I imagine this was the rude man on the phone...
For the food, drinks, and our waiter, I would have rated this a 4. For the man on the phone and the way we left feeling from management... I have to give this a 3.5.
My husband and I went for a nice dinner two week ago on Friday. Everything was fabulous. The food was really good! My husband had the filet Mignon and I had the veal chop, everything was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. The thing that really stood out though, was the service. Our server's name was Karen and I think I have never had better service. She was so attentive witty and genuinely cared. On top of that she told us what an amazing place Sassi is to work. Props to the owners for treating their staff so nice and providing such a great dining experience. We will come back and recommend it to our friends
Took a friend out to this place for what was planned to be a very special evening. Definitely was not disappointed. The decor is probably the nicest in the city and the food was incredible (I see a lot of people complaining about prices but honestly the food here is on par with the top fine dining places in Calgary).
Our server Vinny deserves praise all his own. He was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, extremely welcoming and friendly, light hearted and made the experience amazing. When our food came, he noticed the lovely lady I was with eyeballing my roasted potatoes and she joked that she loved potatoes. He showed up 5 min later with a small side dish for her to try some out... he even brought her a small piece of cake after we mentioned we were there to celebrate her graduating her college course. He did many other things but I can tell you, as someone who managed bars for 4-5 years, I would have killed to have a waiter like Vinny.... Will definitely be coming back and specifically asking for him.
This place fit the bill perfectly. Had some friends fly into Calgary on Christmas Eve and we were looking for an intimate restaurant to catch up and celebrate the holiday season. Sassi Kitchen Bar was one of the few restaurants open and did not dissapoint. The decor and ambiance was perfect. We were able to laugh and enjoy our evening without feeling like we were disturbing anyone one else as we were seated in the front booth. The food was also excellent with a nice selection and accomodating staff who allowed us to mix up the side dishes up. It was a great evening and we look forward to going again.
What is there not to love about this place, sophisticated ambiance, attentive friendly service, I had the Gnocchi was the best the sauce and all the flavors came together freshly made, I give it a five. I'm planning a party here for next year cause its a great place to entertain friends.
One of the best restaurant experiences yet! The service was friendly, food was amazing and atmosphere is so cool. I can't wait to go back! Truly a must try in Calgary.
Good food, beautiful atmosphere and most importantly, FANTASTIC service. Thank you to Juanita and Vinny who made sure our dining experience was superb. We also had the opportunity to chat with one of the owners, Mary, who was delightful. We will definitely be back. :)

Went to Sassi last night for my 30th birthday dinner, there was 12 people in our party. It was everyone's first time there and we were all very pleased with our experience!!
First off, it is beyond stunning inside, you don't even feel like you are in Calgary.
Our waiter was great, very attentive, gave us separate bills without even having to ask! My gf brought me flowers and he took them and put them in a vase on our table, nice touch!
Food was great, everyone at the table really enjoyed their meals. The gnocchi was unreal, pizza was delicious and also the prices were fair for the quality of food!
Drinks were also fantastic! I cannot wait to go back! I will suggest this place to anyone!
UPDATE: I went back the following day and again everything was great!!!
Came back to Sassi for dinner and it truly was better than the last time, the ribs were done perfectly, and then we did not realize we got a bottle of wine for half price, what is not to like about this place. Sassi had some negative reviews in the past that I just don't understand. Anyway, this is my review , and I recommend this place,
We were looking for a late lunch on Tuesday and we were delighted that Sassi was able to accommodate us. We love the ambience in fact we were commenting that we felt like we were in NYC or LA , I ordered the gnocchi with pistachio topping and my companion ordered the lamb lollipops and a Mediterranean salad , all three dishes were apsolutely amazing , I could tell that only high grade ingredients were used in all three dishes and everything was very fresh. We will definitely be back .
Recently had dinner with my wife, really awesome ambiance and the food was very tasty. It's a cool spot that needs to be checked out. I'll be going back for sure
Sassi has the most beautiful atmosphere I've ever encountered warm and comfortable and the food is great! I'll definitely go back! Great location friendly staff all in all a great experience.
I had my birthday party at Sassi's! It's the new hot spot ! The ambiance is amazing and you feel like your in a different city ! They have top notch food and exceptional service ! The owners welcome you with a huge smiles and make you feel welcomed ! It's a great restaurant and perfect location ! All my family and friends enjoyed it!
Great atmosphere delicious food... The lamb is the best in town combined with beet salad.
And the owners Chris and Mary make it the most welcoming place in town
My husband and I went for dinner and LOVED it. I had the Lamb, and he had the Arctic Char... they both were DELICIOUS! The décor is very comfortable and BEAUTIFUL. We went back for pizza the next weekend with friends, we had the pizza that time and it was very good. The crust is perfect! We even met the owners Chris and Mary, the were lovely, and made us feel so welcome. We will definitely be going again.
We have dined at Sassi 4 times since they opened just before Christmas and have sampled the menu extensively. We have always had great service and great meals in a fabulous setting. We look forward to our next visit to Sassi!
Exceptional atmosphere, food and cocktails. Owners Mary and Chris do a fabulous hosting of our family and friends on the many occasions that we have visited since the restaurants opening in late 2014.
Truly will become one of Calgary's most vibrant entertainment locations.
I have been here four times now and have to say it is excellent. Great room and always amazed with the food. They have changed the menu slightly recently. Glad to see the nachos and tacos go, they confused the menu and, from the nachos someone at my table had, were bag bought chips.. Total pub grub. I'm a huge fan of the chicken liver pate and the most amazing ribs I've ever had. I was a lover of the beet salad but that has unfortunately changed. It had a nice creamy feta covering the bottom of the plate that you could drag your beets and lettuce through. Now it's just crumbled on top. I will continue to return to Sassi for the amazing food and ambience. A great addition to the Mission district!!
The decor was definitely why I wanted to try this place out . We got there midday and the place was completely empty so we were able to get our food super fast. Tried the chicken burger and it was delicious. The waitress was super sweet and accommodating. Really enjoyed it.
Came in for brunch. We made reservations but it wasn't too busy when we got there. By the time we left it was fairly busy. I got the eggs benny which were delicious!! My wife got the West coast gallete which she thoroughly enjoyed. The decor is great, prices are reasonable. Highly recommend.
Recently had a fantastic experience here. Service was excellent, wine list is wonderful & food was amazing! Very unique for the price. Would recommend they add a diversity of local craft beer.
A group of us from work decided to take our employer out for his birthday and we thought we would try Sassi. I am so glad we did because the service was exceptional and the food was absolutely delicious. The restaurant is beautiful when you walk in and right from the start our experience was great. Our server was awesome, very attentive and made great recommendations. The owner and his wife checked in on our table and were such a delight. The food was seriously good... to be honest it was delicious every single bite of it. Not one thing came to our table that I can say I didn't thoroughly enjoy. I highly recommend it and have already been back. All I can say is that you have to try it for yourself.

This is a great place!! Our server, Karen (I think her name was), was/is amazing! She provided ideas and opinions on the wine list, dessert and menu - without being overbearing The prices vs. portion sizes were completely reasonable. Our bill, had the tip included in, as we were part of a group of 6, which was a nice feature by the way. & everything was super fresh!
Our favorite restaurant, hands down!
I go to Sassi often - for lunch with my coworkers, and for happy hour / brunch / dinner with my bf. Everything about this place makes me happy! The food is delicious, and there are many vegan / vegetarian / gluten-free options for me, as well as many carnivorous delights for my bf - all without having an overly large menu.
The food could NOT be any fresher, and you can taste the love that the chefs put into every single dish.
The interior design is so decadent, elegant, classy, stylish and posh - yet at the same time it is so warm, comfortable and inviting - we ALWAYS feel right at home and welcomed with open arms.
Almost best of all is how special we are treated - like VIPs - by the owners AND the servers. They remember us by name and they genuinely care about their diners. We love this place and we love all of the staff, and we hope they are around to feed us and make us smile forever :D:D:D
