We were going to go to a pub after work but I walked by this place and it smelled amazing so we changed our plans.
Gour.mand had been here before but had only ever had one dish so we decided to get a few tapas items. We ordered patatas bravas, tomato bread, steak & frites and fried cheese.
The patatas bravas was quite different than any other we had had both her and in Spain. But every patatas bravas is unique. I particularly liked the squishiness of the potatos and the fried egg on top.
The tomato bread was to die for! The bread was fried and the manchego cheese on top made it absolute perfect. I would go back and order 10 of them and eat them all of I could.
The manchego fried cheese was delicious but definitely eat it right away while the cheese is still melty. The breading is panko so it wasn't heavy, juts nice and light. But it comes in threes so if there are two of you you might have to compromise.
The steak was delicious and tangy, we had to order it medium but normally we would order rare. But even at medium it was lovely. The fries were okay. They were fries but the hubby wasn't feeling them.
Our sever was very nice and brought us churros for dessert. I wasn't overly a fan of the homemade chocolate hazelnut (granted it was way better than Nutella) but the dolce de leche dip was great and the churros themselves were warm and sugary. A lovely end to the meal.
I would recommend this place for a group or a date. Try the tomato bread. And after work it wasn't busy at all. I hear it is a madhouse at lunch though.
This place has gotten better since the food menu changed and management seems more hands on. Busier times in the evenings Friday/Saturday but can usually walk in and get a seat if you're not a massive group. Really good sangria as well!
A group of us went here for dinner one Saturday evening and it was pretty busy and lively. I ordered the calamari which was nothing special, just the average fried squid. We ordered the seafood paella and the pork belly chicken paella. The paella was delicious and flavorful, everyone enjoyed their dishes! I really enjoyed the seafood paella and would order it again, I definitely wasn’t disappointed with the amount of seafood in my dish. We also ordered the chorizo romesco pizza pie, which was a huge hit with the group, not a crumb was left!! Dessert was the smores churros, it was alright but the churros were hard. Very well portioned meals and left satisfied! The service was slow but the food was tasty.
Came here for breakfast with colleagues early Friday morning. No other customers - not sure if we were too early or just the bad economic times in Calgary. I had the Spanish Omelettes and it wasn't bad. The service was good and the decors are actually nice. Looking at the prices on the menu, it wasn't as pricey as I thought it would be.
Oh man me and my wife had an awesome night here. We stopped in after seeing some friends and didnt know what to expect. Our first bartender made us some awesome drinks and was very nice. Our next bartender Brad was amazing and so passionate about the establishment and his job. The staff made night so fun and has made us want to return asap. Plus they have wine discounts untill oil reaches a certain level. Very alberta concious. All in all best bar ive been to in a long time.

WOW… when 2 women usually walk in one of these places on 8th Ave for lunch, they are seated in the worst place possible.

Great atmosphere. Friendly manager and staff. An upmarket crowd so the place felt afluent. Really interesting Mediterranean inspired menu. Meatballs were amazing. Great draft beer selection. The acoustics were good because although it was full it wasn't deafening. We will be back.
Stopped in for some cocktails and a few tapas with the wifey. Great atmosphere, great look brought back a few memories of our trip to Spain. Started with a couple of cocktails, wifey chose the bubbles and I opted for a raspberry lime gin and tonic since they were on special. Great flavors overall great cocktail. Menu choices are above exceptional, we went with the mussels and chorizo broth, served with a little baguette to sop up the broth at the end. Simply amazing. The calamari with avocado salsa verde and romesco sauce cooked to perfection. A huge highlight is the roasted cauliflower, i have been working on my own versions but these guys have it down pat. I topped my experience off with a bourbon slammer, although it comes out looking like a girly drink, it has all the flavor your looking for with muddled blackberries, basil and a shot of lime juice. All in all, I will be back many times in the future.
We went to Barcelona on a Saturday night, the place had a great vibe and was pretty full. The tapas were awesome, our favourite was the calamari. The service was quick and attentive. Will definitely be back, the price was reasonable $100 for 2 people including drinks, tapas and dessert.
I hadn't seen any reviews and I wasn't familiar with the establishment when I met a friend on the street in front we decided to pop in for lunch. We ordered a calamari to start, it was nicely prepared and presentation was good. My friend got their chicken parm club or something similar to that and he raved about it and I tried the messi burger. I was impressed the burger was cooked beautifully and finally a burger that was the same size as the bun. It was fantastic flavour and presentation was good. I'll definitely be back, and recommending at least the burger to others.
Much Needed Update!. Barcelona is just what was needed on the corner of 8th Ave and 4th Street. In a city centre full of pubs, pizza and wine, and streak houses, Barcelona breaks away from the pack and offers a great selection of tasty tapas. Some of my favs are the patatas bravas, spanish slammer, paprika prawns, and lobster ravioli.
Excellent food! Excellent service!. Been to Barcelona Tavern twice since they opened. First one for lunch and second for dinner. Busy both times. My advice is to make a reservation so you don't leave disapointed.
My first visit I tried paprika shrimp and paella. Both were yummy but my favorite is the paprika shrimp.
Second visit, I went with a bigger group. We tried patatas bravas, Parmesan fries with truffle and lobster ravioli. I highly recommend the ravioli. It's so delicious.
I will definitely come back.

Delicious Food; Excellent Staff. Have nothing but great things to say about the place. This is my place to go to during lunch and to wind down right after work.
I would like to first put in a good word for the lovely hostess, Meme; I was having a horrible day when I went in last Friday night but she, with her great sense of humor, managed to uplift my mood and naturally, made my night. To the management team, thank you for employing such a wonderful personality; not only is she funny but she is also unbelievably stunning. The Parmesan fries and Messy Burger are exceptional and the beer selection is definitely the best in the city. The servers and bartenders are pleasantly attentive and friendly. Keep up the good work Barcelona.
We went on opening night and were blow away! The servers and bartenders are very attentive and knowledgable. They were involved while we picked our wine and tapas. The food is phenomenal- after our dinner on opening Night I went in for lunch and for drinks and dinner with some friends on Saturday. I absolutely recommend bringing some friends when you go to sample the tapas menus- try the bomba and the veal cheeks! But they also have a great menu for lunch and entrees.
Can't wait to go back!
Amazing!!!. It's my new favourite resto in Calgary. I love the design of the place especially the graffiti wall in the back. I don't quite know how to describe it but it has a somewhat street chic feel to it (if that's even a thing). The servers are very attentive; even the management team came around to check on us or even give a hand with our orders.
Now to the most important part of any restaurant, the food. The standouts for me are the paprika prawns, parmesan truffle frites, patatas bravas, pork belly and scallop, and huevos diablos. But I absolutely love the churros with the chocolate and caramel sauce. It's crunchy on the outside and light inside. I can even do without the caramel and just have extra chocolate sauce... nomnomnom... They also have a nice selection of drinks. I particularly like Venus 75 and ginny hendricks. Heaven! If you're heading down, I suggest brining a group so you can sample everything. I will definitely be back!
Great Tapas. I have tried about 10 dishes from the tapas menu and have absolutely no compaints. My favorite dish was the paprika shrimp with grits but I was impressed with everything. They have big portions and are decently priced in comparison to other tapas restaurants in the city. There were a few minor things that were odd about the place such as the number of servers/greeters standing around but I would attribute that to the growing pains of opening a new restaurant..... much better to have more than less. I would definitely go back!
