The best burger in town by far. No crap on this burger to mask the taste. Beautifully cooked, moist ground beef, never dry. The fries are incredible too! Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Always worth the trip to see Jim Rockwell.
I love this place. Always have. The burger is great and for the price ... well it's double great at that price.
The most amazing burgers in Calgary! Why go downtown and pay $20 for something that was just warmed up and sitting under a heat lamp when you can have a quality burger made in front of you for a fraction of the price...? Family owned... family service!
Rocky's Burgers is a must-add destination in your culinary tour of Calgary.
Juicy, tasty home-made burgers served with a tantalizing selection of toppings and sides will water any mouth with anticipation.
I have never been disappointed by going to Rocky's Burgers. I have been to both the old location and the new location and definitely love having them at their new location. Makes it more convenient to come down and enjoy a burger any day of the week. Food is always fresh, service is always welcoming, and the big red bus is definitely catchy to see and a hit with all.
Enjoyed the burger & fries today! I'd definitely recommend this to any burger fans!
Was there on the way to a Roundup in Banff Best burger north of San Francisco!!!
Awesome and then some! Great Food Great people! All the food is fresh, Be prepared for a full belly!
This Establishment is one of the best in the cities. Great workers, great food, great experience.
Thank you Rocky's Burgers!!!
I recommend eating here more than once.
always awesome food and friendly staff!
Top notch burgers...the best in Cowtown
Best onion rings!!! & people
Just Awesome!!! So glad this was my first stop in Calgary!
Rocky rocks. It's at the. Crossroads Market -- I didnt realize it's open 7 days. All fresh made to order. Can't go wrong for the price. I have to point out though, I'm 99% certain that's an old Edmonton Transit bus.
Have only been here once but had a pleasant experience. I love seeing food trucks and the like in the city. I find they are usually far better than a sit down restaurant. The burger that I got tasted good and was cooked well. Their poutine is also very tasty. Enjoyed coming here in the summer.
A great diner-style burger. Big patty. Inexpensive. Simple. I ordered it with the standard cheese, mustard, onion and relish. Fries were a good, hand-cut fry.
I can best describe the meat as almost meatloaf-like. It is so thick, that it must be baked. It gets a meatloaf tenderness. I liked it.
No criticisms.
I will return.
There was a lot of type about this burger joint so I decided to give this a try. The burgers were huge but lacked seasoning as it was pretty bland. Very good value for money though. Fries came in big portions as well but very greasy and soggy. Ate outside on a bench but something smelled really bad. Overall an average experience.
Best burger in Calgary in my opinion. Big thick juicy with a bit of a charred crust. Haven't had a chance to go by since they moved location and I miss them greatly. The fries are actually fresh cut potatoes and are delicious. Reasonable price for a good hardy lunch of burger, fries and a pop. Don't bother getting the hot dogs or smokies, they are nothing special. This place is all about the burger and fries.
My Favourite Bacon Cheese Burger in Calgary. During my eight years in Calgary I've tried dozens of burger places and Rocky's Burger bus is by far my favourite. Their patties are huge, perfectly cooked and made with high quality ground beef. To top it off Rocky's makes the best French fries and onion rings I've ever tasted!
Good, but room for improvement. After hearing some hype about how it may be the best in the city, finally had a chance to check out Rocky's today. The Bacon Cheese Burger was huge and tasted pretty good, but very simple and a little bland. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the vanilla shake. Wasn't too thick so as to impede the use of the straw, and it tasted great.
I enjoyed Rocky's, but for the best burger in town would head 5 minutes down the road to Naina's Kitchen for their stuffed burgers (call ahead), or if I needed something right in the area would head down 46 Ave to Holy Smoke. Rocky's is a good meal, but there's room for improvement.
On to something but the burgers need more flavor
The best burger in calgary great taste awesome service the best!!!!!!!
Don. What else can you say about a great burger that hasn't been said here already, I am surprised at the 8% who don't like it, they must be braindead or vegetarians, I am a vegetarian that eats beef only if it is fed grass or grain and I only like it grilled fried broiled or BBQ or possibly baked or sometimes raw, anyway here is the best burger you will ever have.
Best Burgers In Calgary. Fresh everything with friendly service and a great location. Worth the trip. Ties Ed's (near the Dome) for the best burger in the city, (it blows Peter's Drive-In away). A note - the single burgers are MASSIVE!
Great classic fast food joint!. The burger was great but its been a while since I tasted onion rings like that! Amazing guys. This was my first time here and it lived up to the hype. This has to be placed on the Calgary gem spots like Peter's and Phantastic panakoke haus! Great job guys! Rocky's is a must pit stop!
Best burger anywhere! Simple quality ingredients, including fresh cut fries an hearty portions make for a great feed.
Meaty goodness. Wanna cover your burger with all those toppings go to five guys... wanna a complete meat experience gotta hit the bus.... No doubt about it closes burger I have ever had to my childhood memories of what a real hamburger tasted like... yes we are talking the 60's and 70's before the days of processed and shoved down your throat Ranchy Ronnies crap....
Great Burgers. The only way a burger should be! Consistant service and quality, great value for the money! Line ups are worth the wait.
Homemade Goodness. Awesome homemade burgers. They taste like mom makes but just that much better. The poutine is awesome too and washed it down with a chocolate shake.
Friendly and efficient, its a great stop if you are in the area .
I would eat here everyday if i lived closer. I love that during last summer it opened on weekends. The best burgers and hand cut fresh fries you can buy in the city. Period. I have parts suppliers in the area and I schedule my day around those pickups going on around lunch time. They have sausages and hot dogs too but they aren't anything to brag about. It's the burgers that will keep you coming back.
The grease grenades and gut bombs here are superb. Certainly puts the Big Mac and the Whopper to shame! Oh, you just cannot beat their juicy burgers. Rocky has placed a few picnic tables around the back of the bus, to add to your lunch experience. Who needs MacDonalds whe the Burger bus is in town!
Best Poutine in Calgary.. I visit the bus a few times a year and the only complaint would be that they are not open on the weekends.....
If you have not had the Poutine or Burgers yet, go today, go tomorrow just go soon.
Enjoy!
Cool!. Good burger, definitely want to go back again. Wouldn't recommend the fries. Awesome that it's served out of a bus! Too bad it's not open on weekends
Excellent burgers! Rocky's is definitely one of those little 'hidden gems' that is truly unique only to Calgary. A single patty itself is about an inch thick and because it's so juicy (not greasy), the burger probably weighs about a pound. Would definitely go back and recommend people to an absolute treat of a burger.
Hmmmmmm meat!. This place has been on my wishlist for quite some time, and due to the fact that it's only open when I'm working, I never had a chance to go there until now (yay for being on maternity leave!). My hubby and I were in the area running some errands and he said, wanna go to five guys (he's never been and wanted to try)? I don't even know where five guys is in the south, but I knew Rocky's was nearby, so I suggested coming here instead.
We arrived at the fairly cramped parking lot, and since we have a baby with us, I had to sit in our car while my hubby went to line up. I think we only waited around 15 min for our food (granted it was after 1pm). I had the cheeseburger while hubby had the bacon cheeseburger, and we got an order of the onion rings to share. I have to say this is one of the best burgers I've ever had! The patty taste so homemade - thick, juicy and not greasy. Didn't even need anything else (bacon, lettuce etc) to go with it!! Hubby liked his burger as well. Our order of onion rings was huge - it is definitely enough for two people for sure. They are quite greasy, but also one of the best onion rings I've tasted (fast food wise anyway). In fact, I still have 1/4 bag sitting on my kitchen counter. I can't say the same for their fries - I found a few in our bag of onion rings and they were quite soggy and bland.
I would most definitely come back here again but it is so out of the way. Rocky's burgers beat all the other fast food establishments hands down!
Damn good home cooked taste. Great place to grab an amazing burger. Nothing fancy about this place, just good and big burgers for a decent price.
One of if not the best Burger in Calgary. Really - its a burger bus, with the best burgers going. My only complaint is that I work in the far north of the city and they are not open evenings or weekends, drastically limiting the number of trips I can make there.
Meat Orgy is Right!. Rocky's lives up to the hype!! The cheeseburger that I ordered easily had the thickest patty that I have ever seen out of anywhere that I have been to in Calgary. That being said, it was also cooked really well. Not overcooked and moist throughout. The buns they use are also really soft.
A couple of the other reviewers said the onion rings were good...trust them. They really are.
I'll definitely be back.
Five Guys Run Over by a Bus. In order to call yourself a true Calgarian you must eat one of these burgers (unless you are a vegetarian of course).
You can spend a lot more on a burger, but you would not be getting a better one. Cold or warm, it is worth standing outside to get one of these perfectly cooked treats.
Best burger in Calgary. As advertised this burger delivers. How they manage make a patty so large but so tender is truly a wonder. Handmade patties that have a fresh beefy taste to the hand cut fries Rockys truly is home to the burger orgy. Take note all you wanna be hole in the wall burger joints, go to Rockys to experience what you must strive for. Although my office is in the North I will make up excuses to go South for Rockys. Simply the best burger in Calgary all the rest are contenders.
Good stuff, good stuff. Great burger, good fries, tasty onion rings. What's not to like, just wish it was open later or on weekends, than I could get a fix more often.
AWESOME. This Burger Bus is AMAZING, I've been coming here since I was a kid. I have found most burger bus's to have some of the BEST, BIGGEST, JUICIEST Burgers in this City!! They're Lean Burgers made with less fat, but oh so flavorful. Hands Down one of the best! Always busy.
Mighty fine.. A red bus buried to the axels in dirt parked on the edge of a hill alive with happy gophers. Red picnic tables dotting the hill. A picture perfect setting for the best burger in the city!! This place oozes character and the food completes the scene. Fantastic onion rings. And a burger that actually tastes like beef . Just a tidbit of info for those fast food goers that have never had a great burger and an answer to their question, "what's that taste?" Its real beef!
Get your Burger fix!. Rocky's burgers are handmade and delicious. The onion rings and poutine may be the best in the city.
A great place to go when you have a burger fix!
Get on the BUS!. If you haven't already, it's time to get onto this popular spot in the SE industrial area of Calgary. This one of a kind gem is an old Calgary transit bus turned burger joint. The bus itself may not be going anywhere, but the food that comes out of it is definitely a mover.
The star of the show is unmistakably the beef - proudly advertising that they use Alberta Beef and that they have been named the "Home of the Meat Orgy". The bun and condiments are just there in supporting roles, and minor ones at that.
These burger patties are hand formed, extremely thick and wide, especially in the middle, and very generous in portion.
The onion rings and fries were also better than the average fast-food fare but a little on the greasy side for my personal taste.
Eat in your car or take your meal to the picnic tables just a few steps up the hill that the bus is partially sunk into. There you can be entertained by the sights - did you know that 8 big guys can fit at one picnic table? Yup! Watch the varied industrial traffic and workers go to and fro or maybe just the antics of prairie dogs playing nearby.
What a perfect lunch break - sitting in the fresh air and sunshine eating a fat, homemade style burger with a great milkshake and some decent quality sides. Woot!
Nice place to grab a bite!. Very cool burger joint! Run out of a permanently parked converted bus. Friendly staff, fair portions at fair prices. Nice to go there once in a while.
There is a pretty good chance that Calgary has the best fast food burgers in the world, as we should given that most are made with the best beef in the world. The question is, who has the best burgers in Calgary. There are many contenders, Peter's, CB's,
Here you can see them grilling the burgers fresh. Look how massive they are. My god. It is like a massive meat pancake.
Are You Gonna Eat That
+4.5
This isn't McDonald's fast; the burgers are grilled fresh and hot so the wait is worth it.
When people talk about restaurants as institutions, it usually refers to a place that has maintained their longevity, and quality. In Calgary, people usually talk Peter’s, or Caesar’s, or Chicken on the Way. They certainly have had their longevity, but I
I've been eating at the Rockwell family buses for over 30 years, there was a time I had to have one of their bacon and tomato sandwiches every day when they were in the foothills. But you can't beat a Rocky's special once in a while! This is the way a burger should be, simple. Mustard relish and onions, oh yeah!
I've heard about this place for quite a while and decided to stop in while I was in the area. This ended up being a great experience. We had cheeseburgers and 'frings' (half fries/half onion rings). Everything was very good. I enjoyed the fact that the beef patty is homemade and fairly thick. It was sunny so we sat at the outdoor area and enjoyed our meal while seeing all the people arriving at the farmers market. The owners here are super friendly and welcoming. Recommend checking this place out for a quick meal
Rocky's is one of those locally owned burger places that serves you the quality you would make yourself. Ample meat is an understatement and the perfectly melted cheese and fresh buns just make sure you know it is quality from cover to cover. I HIGHLY recommend.
Hands down my favorite burger in town. Quality meat every time, no need for anything over the top because they manage to do so much with beef, mustard, relish and onion. Their homestyle poutine is an absolute monsters too, love it so much. Been coming here since I was a kid and the staff has always remembered me! Definitely a must try if you're into quality local food burgers and fries.
Extremely kind and considerate staff. Very personable and helpful!
The cheeseburger was simple, yet highly delicious!
Milkshake was filling, tasty, and had a very good consistency.
Overall wow, I will be coming back!
Been 7 years since I've had Rocky's, and I think they've actually improved in that time. It was awesome back then, but these are some serious next-level burgers. The fries are a little on the thick side (personal preference), but cooked perfectly. Patty has a little bit of that flat top crust, and has to be at least an inch thick. It's also really reasonably priced. The Rocky's combo is $13 for a monster cheeseburger, big carton of fries, and a pop. Wow.
