Midtown is the best place in Calgary. Best beer, best food, and hands down, best staff.
Been to Midtown countless times since they have open. The staff is awesome, food is great and the atmosphere is wonderful!!! Highly recommend the place!!
Always a great time, lots on tap and events going on. Cask Wars, Tap take Overs, good food and weekly specials. A place to stop in or visit on a pub crawl thru Kensington area.
Great beer, great food, great service, great atmosphere. One of my favourite places to go for a pint and a bite in Calgary. Wish it was closer to my house. :-)
I love Midtown. Hands down one of the best rotating craft beer lists in yyc; and not to mention the amazing food!.I'm surprised to see some negative reviews on the staff; we always receive excellent service when we go.
Awesome bar. Amazing beer on tap, incredible wine and spirits list. Fantastic food. Can't go wrong.
Great location, Amazing Food and Best Service in Town. Came in to have a meeting and have to say this place exceeded any expectation. Oysters were perfect. The Charcuterie Board a nice choose your own adventure of flavors and high quality offerings. The attention to detail, cleanliness, and quality of the service is second to none. Looking forward to coming back. Thanks for a great experience and keep up the great work.
Amazing food, great atmosphere, wicked staff! Can’t wait to go back!!
Great beer selection and some creative food selections
Great location and beer selection Friends enjoyed themselves too
Wonderful craft beer selection. The food is always great and I live friendly atmosphere.
Awesome food and service. Will be back again for sure.
Always great service and the drinks are fantastic.
Love this place. These guys love what they do and it shows!
Food here was phenomenal. Our bartender Richie was even better. He initially suggested the Russell which was great, but then he suggested the Citizen. Such a good beer. Would highly, highly recommend this place. Great product, even better service
Above average pub fare that was decently tasty, but not spectacular. The restaurant itself is very lively and inviting, but I felt like it lacked any kind of individual charm. My friend decided on the Midtown Burger ($15) and I tried the Midtown Beef Dip ($18). Both of our dishes arrived pretty quickly (our server was very friendly and attentive considering how busy it was) and portions were fairly generous. I was pleasantly surprised by the burger: juicy patty on a nicely toasted brioche bun with lots of fresh toppings. My beef dip had really good flavour, but unfortunately the bun was very, very dry and the filling was a little stingy. The fries were nicely crisp. I definitely wouldn't make a specific trip given the abundance of (better) restaurants in Kensington, but if someone suggested Midtown I'd be happy to try it again.
We hit this place on a sunny Saturday while on our bikes. Good food and drink specials(even on a weekend) if you get there between 3-6PM(and lots to choose from the happy hour menu). Parking would be a bit of a hassle(it is Kensington, after all) but the service was quick and we were full and satisfied by the time we left.
Love the fact they are supporting local brews and companies. We had the wild rose colab stout with Calgary Heritage Roasting Company what a treat! The tacos were on special. They were good ($2.50 a piece) but also half size so it wasn't really a deal in the end to be honest. My friends burger was huge so that was probably the better deal in the end. Service was great despite it being so busy. I'll have to go back sometime!
Love their food, their atmosphere, their staff!!
Service was awesome and efficient. Drinks are amazing. One of my favorite places.
Also, their happy hour is amazing!!
Went here for brunch. I got the eggs benedict, and they were good but the portion sizes felt a bit small especially for the price. It was nice, but there are far better brunch places in the kengsinton area!
Delicious oysters, very good deal a buck a shuck, the Hawaiian pork pizza was great! Very thin crust, lots of cheese, flavourful pork. Love the atmosphere, service and food were prepared quick.
I really loved my whole experience at this restaurant! The atmosphere is casual, very hipster-urban vibe. The patio is great for people watching as its right in the heart of Kensington.
Staff here went above and beyond for us! Everyone was so fun loving and friendly so it really set the tone.
We ordered the Hawaiian Pizza 🍕 which was incredible! It was quite large and not your typical Hawaiian. The pork was roasted (I believe) and cut into generous pieces as was the pineapple 🍍. Plus this Hawaiian has jalapeños on it!! 👍🏼👍🏼 Next time I'm going to have to try a burger as they are HUGE! They looked so yummy with their also very generous helping of fries on the side. FREE truffle popcorn which is to die for and great happy hour drink prices make a perfect combo 😉🍻
Love every about this place and can't wait to come back!
The best Chicken and Waffles I have eaten. Wow!!
Great service and I will definitely go back for brunch.
Polite servers. Jacqueline served me and she was knowledgeable, efficient and pleasant.
This review is an update from a previous review, and it's an update for the better. Kudos to the manager for reaching out to me on my previous negative review. It certainly made a difference to know the management cares and I'm very happy with the changes that havem been made as was evident in my most recent visit. Spent a few hours on their newly renovated patio space on a Saturday afternoon. The new patio makes so much more sense than the old one and it's definitely improved the space. to
Several of us got to sit in the corner booth at the far end of the patio and it's a pretty amazing spot for a mid sized group. The table had a variety of items including the deep fried pickles, truffle fries, portobello burger, and the Hawaiian pizza (we added chicken to the pizza also). Everyone at the table enjoyed their food. The bf and I split the Hawaiian pizza and it was really very good. It's large enough to easily split between two. It's full of big chunks of pineapple, pulled pork, and has real jalapeños on it for a pretty decent kick.
While we were there bourbon mules, caesars, andn house wine were on special. The mule and the caesars were very good for $5.00 each. The house white wasn't my favourite wine but for $5.00 it was decent. Draft beer selection is very good though none were on special while we were there.
Service was decent and our waitress was pretty friendly.
All in all, much happier with our most recent experience than the previous two several months ago. This place certainly seems to be changing for the better which I'm thrilled about because Kensington could really benefit from a spot like this.

I have been here a couple of times now. I really like the atmosphere, and the flights of beer.
It is nice that the whole family came come in to the bar (not sure until when though, maybe 7 o'clock?). My wife really enjoyed the burger. She raved about the quality of the gluten free bun too. It actually stayed in one piece while she ate, unlike most of the GF buns that seem to crumble under pressure.
Got the charcouterie and Parmesan truffle fries - delish!!!! Yum yum yum, so good. The 6 corners stump splitter and Fernie black mammoth winter ale were great. Fantastic atmosphere, menu, beer selection, and service. Got here early on a Saturday night, the servers are friendly and attentive, great music, and a great place to watch the hockey game without a sports bar setting.
Great hipster spot in the middle of the Kensington action you shouldn't miss. A classic Canadian bfast of sand-dollar pancakes, crispy (though pre-cooked) bacon, lemon potato hashbrowns (the owners are Greek after all) and perfect medium poached eggs started the day off just right. With a delicious Caesar naturally....it was packed and the service was AOK. Oddly there were a lot of toddlers out with their fams which is cool but it does seem a little out of place at a Sunday football pub. Hey I've got kids too just sayin'. Give this place a fair shot!
Midtown is a casual kitchen and bar located in Kensington that encourages local food sourcing. I had walked past this place a few times, and had always thought it was a fine dining restaurant, so it was a surprise when I stopped by for lunch and saw that it was definitely a more casual environment. There was a lot of seating available, and patrons are encouraged to seat themselves, which set up a laid back atmosphere for the meal. I decided to go with the chicken sandwich, and found it to be pretty tasty. The chicken was cooked to a tender state, and it was still juicy, which complimented the dressings of the sandwich. I found the chicken to be a bit on the smaller side, as there were a few bites that left me with just the toppings and bun. The serving size of the shoestring fries were quite generous, but I found them to be slightly lacking in flavour, which might be remedied with the accompaniment of an aioli or sauce. I thought that the service was quite friendly, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. One thing to note though, was that for a kitchen/bar concept, the prices seemed a bit higher than some other places, but overall, it was a positive experience that left me curious about the other items on the menu.
Gosh I've been here so many times I can't believe I haven't reviewed it yet. My first visit was for their grand opening, the most recent time was in December with a girlfriend. We landed here on a Wednesday evening and were thrilled to learn it was half price bottle of wine night - score.
I've always liked the food which is why I keep coming back. It's not far from where I live and has a cool bistro vibe. Prices are fair, food is good. Lots of great beers & wine to choose from. This last visit I tried the fish & chips. Being a West Coast girl I am very fussy when it comes to fish & chips...these delivered. My dinner date had the Roasted Root Vegetable Salad. She was also pleased.
A fun place to hang out with friends, a date or family. Oh yes they allow kids until 8 or 9 I think - another bonus!
Incredible burgers, great service, great beer, What more could you ask for.
Four of us went including my 13 year old who was very welcome in there until 8pm, which was great. It was a quiet Sunday afternoon, not many people in there.
When we arrived we were greeted and made very welcome. Our server was super friendly and the other 3 servers also made an effort to smile and take care of us.
The food was amazing. Three of us had the Bill Murray burger, what a burger that was, absolutely huge! One of us had the flatbread which was also amazing. There was an excellent beer selection; the Last Best IPA was yummy as was the Anchor Steam from San Fran.
I have seen the negative reviews below and all I can say is that our experience was the opposite; great service, a really nice looking bar, great food, a great location next to Sunnyside LRT, and a good ambiance. We will definitely be back!
Love this place! Taco Thursday is where my group of friends go for girls night out. We go there almost weekly and love some of the staff. Be warned this place fills up fast, but their tacos are soo worth it, my favorite are still just the classic chicken but the special feature ones are also really good.
Being a stones throw from my house, I want to love this place. However, I have found the beer to be overpriced and the food is nothing special. The place has so much potential, but I think it needs to take a hard look at the menu.
Update. 06.28.2015 - Came here for breakfast and dinner in the same day and was actually quite impressed with the new food menu and the new chefs making the food. The quality is far superior to what I had previously. I still find the prices of the food and drinks to be on the high side, but at least now I feel like I'm getting some value.
All good experiences. I have been here a few times and always enjoyed it. If it wasn't so far away from where I live I would come a lot more. The charcuterie is amazing, great portions. I have been for the Mill St Burger/Beer combo on Mondays and it is awesome! Hugh juicy burger with a tall can of beer. I don't usually like burgers from restaurants because they're usually dry and overcooked/under seasoned, but I LOVE the Midtown burger. Would highly recommend.
The service has been usually good for me. One time we had a server who was doing good, but then went MIA for about 30min as we were waiting for the bill and take home box, that was a little odd, but I overlooked it as all my other experiences have been great!
Midtown is a great little place! A great place for a nice meal and pint! Servers are always welcoming and willing to keep a person company! Awesome Mac and cheese!
Midtown. Good atmosphere, and they made a really great burger.
Second time is a charm. The first time I went here I found the food fairly bland, however was impressed by the service and the delicious free popcorn they served as soon as you sat down. I went back a month later on a Thursday and tried the feature taco (every Thursday there is a different taco on special for $2.50 each) and this amazing caprese style salad. I couldn't believe how generous they were with the fiore de late. The atmosphere is quieter than most of the spots in Kensington which means you can actually talk to the person next to you and likely won't have any rowdy crowds. I would say if you are looking for a decent meal, good service and a wide selection of local beer than Midtown is a good choice.
Went with really low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Got a spot on the patio, had delicious chilled bubbles and oysters. Service was excellent. Would definitely go back
Great food on the patio. It was great sitting on the patio sharing a meal and people watching in Kensington. Friendly waitress, quick service (we were going to theatre), and tasty food. I had a glass of Malbec and my guy a local beer. We shared fish and chips, salad, burger. Lovely thinly cut parmesan fries. A very enjoyable meal. We would definitely go again!
Tonight my husband and I decided to stop by Midtown for a couple of drinks and a quick bite to eat. Our server was great, my husband and I hadn't heard of many of the craft beer they had on tap but our waitress helped guide us through the list till we found one (or a few I may say) that we liked. We shared the TO DIE FOR Mac n cheese (might I note there was bacon in the dish, a very tasty addition) along with the crab cakes and the pesto chicken flatbread....yes we were hungry no need for judgement. Overall a very pleasant experience, thank you Midtown for a wonderful evening.
My second visit and I'm impressed with the changes over the first time. Great friendly service and a brand new menu with some awesome items. Give it a visit.
Great Place. Thoroughly enjoyed Mid Town Was in last week and the food and service was excellent. My friend was not pleased with her food but she's picky... My food was great and I had wine which was on for 1/2 price and very good. I normally would have had beer. I would like to see a better selection of regular type draft beer their selection is all craft....
Good food & Atmosphere. Been to Midtown a couple of times. Always clean, good service, great food, and convenient location for us. We will visit again
Popped in for dinner before the flames game on Thursday night. Great atmosphere and great service. Ordered the primerib sandwich and it was amazing! I've never had a bunch so fresh and meat so tender. Will be back.
Went there for the first time recently and will be back. Nice relaxed ambiance and our server was great and very knowledgeable about the food & drink menus. Didn't order much for food but what we did have was well prepared and tasty.
The beet salad was a twist from any other standard beet salad ive ever had. Also tried the fries, and the cheese platter. I was more than impressed with the very generous cheese portions and pairings (fig jelly, olives, fresh bread, tomato spread). The beer list here is also very good, with always changing seasonal taps as well. Very impressed with this place besides the service. Our server, Nikki, did not greet us or come to our table for nearly 15 minutes after arriving and paid little attention to us for the remainder of our stay. I would definitely come back to explore more of their menu and beer selection, however hesitant due to the service.
Good stuff.. This place is a welcome addition to K-town. out with the greek broken plate and in with something more modern and suited to the vibe of the community. The beer selection here is excellent.
Also, kudos to them to really be the only shop in Calgary to be really representing (ON TAP!) Calgary breweries and barons exclusively. the service is attentive, friendly and timely. The menu is well put together and there are many choices. we personally had the field mushroom flatbread. very good. the only thing i want to see is an expansion of flat bread choices (similar to the 4th spot on 4th St N.W.). They have a very good selection of specials midweek on appies and berrs/spirits for great prices on specialty products ( beers -- all kinds for $5/pint; $1 west coast oysters etc) the decor is very modern/retro and a great spot for a date /casual meal with friends/ mega boozathon alike. This place is like a pseudo- upscaled Ship and Anchor of Kensington. Must visit.
So they just got new menu. I just have to say that i tried their artichoke bean dip with warm flatbread and just loved it!!! Actually i have never had anything i would not like here:-) good job guys...
Don't trust percentages. We have learned over time that bloggers and nay-sayers can impact overall review percentages. Don't believe what you see - this one is a must see and try. Their attention to detail on every item on the menu is top shelf. Their burgers are hand made with fresh herbs, their gravy an unconventional white gravy, but yummmmmm! and try their shoestring fries. We have journeyed through their menu and have yet to be disappointed (just try the pulled chicken sandwich). They always have fresh on tap beer in a interesting location - so lots of people watching. Great for couples, families and seniors alike.
Dinner at Midtown. Table of 6 ......had charcuterie.....loved the tomato jam!
great presentation of all the food.....
Great burgers.....best fries in town!! We all loved the fish and
chips as they were made with a very light, crispy batter....
The service was excellent and we'll definitely be back soon.
Great comfort food!. Just came from this restaurant with my wife. We had crispy chicken with friend green beans and Gorgonzola Mac and cheese with fries. I also had a dunkel Weiss beer. Everything was tasty and seemed fresh. Had great service, something I won't say often. I will be going back for sure and asking for Patrick as a server.
Update:
Had brunch here this time. Had french toast stacker and prime rib sandwich. Both were great. Different server this time. She was not as attentive.
Awesome!. Went to Midtown for the first time with my partner for lunch. The service was fast and attentive, the food was delicious, and they had a great beer selection. Will definitely be returning here!!
Great customer service, great atmosphere.. I went to midtown for a couple of drinks and a bite to eat. I sat at the bar and the bartender immediately acknowledged me. I always like to see what the staff recommends, especially when the beer list is so long. The bartender, Patrick, recommended an IPA that was great. So good I had a couple more. The atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxed and welcoming. I will definitely be back, not only because of the good drink selection, but also because of the excellent customer service.
Worth a visit. Went to Midtown this Friday and had to write a review. It's an Ale House with a wide variety of BC and Alberta micro breweries available. Ask for the sampler tray of the beers on tap, as staff won't always offer this option, even when you express your uncertainty of what ale to try. The sampler was a very pleasing taste sensation. I hope this local realizes its identity and trains its staff to push the amazing beers. They need to build their identity as an Ale House, different from the other Kengsington eateries.
The food was the usual Pub fare but the service was exceptional. We were seated for no less than two minutes before our drink order was taken. Food ticket times were less than 10 minutes. The manager, Joel, was alert to the fact that one of our meals was only picked at and did his job by asking if there was a problem. The meal was comped, despite the very small complaint.
This was quite beyond our expectations. We will dine at Midtown in the future, without hesitation.
Skip the fish, go for the rotisserie chicken. Try the micro brewer ales.
We ate at midtown this evening and generally enjoyed the experience. With the terrific weather we sat on the patio and had attentive service. We ordered the village wit on draft and it was quite obvious they do not pour pints or 18oz glasses. The menu does not specify unless you are ordering off the remainder of the menu. I've found for $6.25 you can get a pint of Village Wit at any Calgary bar however that was not the case. I do wish the put was specified on the drink menu.
We ordered the mussels to share and did enjoy them. My only complaint is they are served on a flat plate instead of bowl so it is difficult to scoop up any delicious sauce with the shell. We also shared the mushroom grill cheese which was also excellent save for the thick Texas toast style of bread. It my be personal preference but there was far too much bread impeding the joy of mushrooms and cheese. We chose the green beans as a side that comes with the grill cheese and they were absolutely delicious! Overall I would go again but would perhaps not partake in the drink menu at all as the price seems exceedingly steep even for the Kensington area
Went on a warmish day and it was too hot inside, we perspired throughout the visit. However, the burgers were delicious, and the tempura green beans were something different, but could use more seasoning. Great local beer selection. Will be back...on a cold day.
Amazing food. Very simple, very tasty, and quite reasonably priced. Excellent beer selection, and I'm not a wine drinker but it looked like the wine selection was quite extensive. Well done guys!
Wonderful Night!. We went to Midtown for my birthday party last night and had a wonderful night. The service was excellent. All of the food ordered was delicious and the prices were very reasonable. The staff was very accommodating even when extra people showed up. Everyone had a great time. I will definitely go there again.
Great pub. Great new addition to the kensington area.
:) fries green beans instead of fries and chicken lover parfait is to die for!! Awesome place!! Would come all the time for sure!
Great Addition to Kensington. I went for an early dinner yesterday and had a great experience. The menu is broken into big plates, small plates, and very small plates. My friend and I shared two small and three very small plates, and were shocked to discover that we had ordered too much food. The food was very good, and considering the amount that comes with even the very small plates, it's a good deal. For $3 or $4 you can get a dish that would cost probably $14 at a place like Candela.
Contrary to what some other reviewers seem to have experienced, I had great service. It always takes a while for a new restaurant to work out their kinks and get settled into a routine, and I think that they are doing a great job.
This place is worth the wait! It took about 40 minutes to get our food, but now that I have tasted the Gorgonzola Mac n Cheese, I would wait twice as long!!!!! It probably took 20 minutes to get our check too, which is ridiculous, but the food is great.
The service was good, my BLT was delicious, and my bf loved his burger.will try and go back on their dollar oyster night.
Great food in Kensington. My partner and I had an enjoyable, leisurely lunch. The décor is a nice update from the Greek place, the food prices are really reasonable with a great beer and wine selection. Quite an impressive wine selection for a pub, we thought. They've only been open for a week and they seem to have worked out a lot of the usual kinks of a new restaurant. I had indulged in the fried chicken with biscuit and white gravy. It came out really hot and was delicious! The Midtown Burger was great too with a nicely grilled bun, tasty house made patty and crispy bacon. They are paying attention to the little details in their food which is great and not always typical for restaurants in Calgary. Great lunch, we'll be back!

Very pleased with the newest culinary addition to Kensington. We went for the first time to Midtown today and were very impressed with the service and food. It was very affordable and tasty and the staff were extremely friendly. The manager came and spoke with us a couple times to check on how things were. Overall, we were really impressed by the food and friendliness of the staff and the layout/decor of the restaurant is great. Very glad to have such a wonderful new addition to the Kensington neighbourhood and we will definitely be back!
Its cool new place, huge selection of beer and wine, amazing fresh local food and excelent service... Will be back every day:-)
These were so good, and it’s a must order if you’re a pork belly lover!
