Solid choice for Vietnamese in Calgary. Generous portions of meat, overall the meal is smaller than most places. Seems to have some Indian influence with the spices, which I like, but others may not. Service was very quick for lunch. Little more expensive than other Vietnamese choices, but in a better location, cleaner and good service.
Great lunch spot. A bit cramped. Not very clean but the food is good
I had a chicken/pork soup and a iced coffee. Tasted great but could use a lot more spice
Worth checking out
Small portions, a little pricy, but the saving grace is that the food itself is great! I do feel not full when I leave, but the indian flavours developed are really nice. Would recommend!
I love this place!!. Love the food here - it's always fresh and well prepared. My favorite dish is #10 (spring rolls, BBQ pork on rice vermecelli). It is awesome. The staff have always accommodated requests for substitutions. I have never had an issue with service unless I show up right at the kitchen/lunch rush. Definitely make a reservation if you can and try to get there before noon to avoid the rush (all DT restaurants are slow at lunchtime). I bring coworkers, clients and friends here all the time. We always have great service and food. I have eaten at all of their locations and the only thing I found different was the cocktails - all the food is prepared the same. I really love the express location as it has all the favorites on the slimmed down menu and it's close to my office. Going all the way to Gulf canada was a bit of a hike so this extra location is perfect! Some other favorites are: broiled lemongrass chicken, beef stir-fry on crispy noodles, salad rolls
Pretty good food and friendly service. The only complain was the wait time - over 45 min during lunch time. That said, I'll go there again!
Great lunch place. I went to Phoenix Express for the first time today. We didn't have a reservation and I will definitely make one next time but they were able to seat us luckily.
It is definitely more upscale than a lot of the Vietnamese Places I have been in and the menu prices reflect that but for the price, the food tasted really good.
This restaurant is owned by the same person as Oriental Phoenix.
I ordered the deep fried spring rolls (pork) [$5.75 for 4] and the Shrimp, Pork, Squid & Vegetable stir fried on crispy egg noodle [$13.25].
The pork spring rolls were some of the best tasting ones I have had. A little greasy but the flavor made up for that. The dipping sauce (typical with fish sauce and carrot etc..) was spicy but had good flavor.
The stirfry was really nice. The crispy egg noodles had good flavor and there was a lot of veggies cooked perfectly. The shrimp was cooked perfectly as well. The only downside was that it had chinese BBQ pork which was a bit tough and they substituted the squid for the pollock artifical crab sticks. It all tasted great though.
I would definitely recommend this place. I was disappointed that they are only open Monday-Friday from 10-2 but then I could always go to Oriental Phoenix as apparently it is the same menu.
If you're looking for a lower cost Vietnamese lunch, I definitely think there are a lot of good inexpensive places downtown that would be comparable in flavor if not in atmosphere.
Really tasty if on the pricey side. Friendly, attentive service and even bought more napkins to protect my white shirt from the beef pho sate. Really positive experience for a small, out of the way place.
The service is fast and the food is delicious. I always order the deep fried sping rolls and the grilled lemongrass chicken on rice. It's absolutely amazing. I LOVE it here!
I've never had a bad experience here. Love the peanut sauce with the fresh spring rolls, and all the main dishes we've tried are also great.
